One of the best photo spot for Sydney Opera House view. Mark this spot and prepare for the best pict.

Great views and very peaceful

I attended an outdoor wedding at Dawes Point Reserve, and it was well suited to that purpose - a beautiful venue for photographs etc. Strict rules though - no pegs in the ground to secure balloons, tents etc. And the ranger comes round to check. Amenities range from limited to non-existent. You're coming for the view of one of the world's great harbours.

Nothing here but porto potties and horrible views of the harbor.
Maybe they have events here on occasion though.

Lieutenant William Dawes established an observatory on this point. The observatory fell into disuse in 1791. Lieutenant Dawes erected a breastwork in 1788 and replaced by a stone battery in 1791 known as Dawes Battery. The whole remodelled and enlarged by Governor Denison 1856.
Upper gun battery was overseen and designed by Francis Greenway. The construction of the upper gun battery in 1819. In 1850's the upper gun battery was enhanced with 5 42 pounder cannon was installed. Circular tracks were carved into the bedrock which meant each cannon was able to swivel through a 180 degree angle. The cannon never fired an angry shot it was removed in 1945 after the Harbour bridge was finished.
The lower battery was part of the improvement of Dawes Point Battery in 1850. The lower gun battery comprised 15 32 pounder guns it was demolished in the 1890's.

If you want to take some seriously nice photo of Harbour Bridge in different angle, come here! Bring along some drinks, sit at the bench and relax after your photo shooting. Great spot!
