Great statue of Josef Jungmann, the Czech poet. Close to a nice square as well.

This man made the Czech language as it currently is as part of a nationalisst revival in the early 19th century. He revived archaic words, for which he studied historical documents, or borrowed from other Slavic languages, and created neologisms. Many of his words became a permanent part of the Czech language.

Jungmann made a Czech - German comprehensive five-volume dictionary comprising 120,000 entries, each with its meaning and collocations. The dictionary provides a basis for the entire national education and offers an insight into the language and literature of the otherwise undescribed period from 1500 to 1750.

This monument stands in tribute to Josef Jungmann, an 18th and 19th century a Czech poet and linguist. Along with Josef Dobrovský, he is considered a leading figure of the Czech National Revival of the Czech language and culture.

This monument features a Bronze statue of Jungmann sitting on a chair. His left hand is hung over the armrest, casually holding a half unrolled scroll. The sculpture sits upon a granite pedestal with his name engraved.

Not much to see to be honest. Probably one for the locals more than tourists.
