Hakka Cottage

Owner was very friendly and did his best to offer top service while the restaurant was nearing closing time and still quite busy. The food was all freshly made and delicious, this is a place that takes the time to put love into the food, something I find has been lost at many of the hakka restaurants in the city these days. The Bombay fish was delicious, as was the deep fried squid, both were cooked to perfection. The hot and sour soup was made with fresh ingredients and it wasn't the same run of the mill soup you get at most places. Overall I was very impressed with the food and the service but the best part was the fact that the prices were better than any other place I have found in the GTA. Great food at a very reasonable price.

The chicken sour soup lacked flavor and seemed as if it was made by simply combining chicken and other ingredients with corn flour. It failed to deliver the essence of a well-prepared soup and, in my opinion, stands as one of the least enjoyable soups I've tasted.

Order the Bombay paneer - definitely crispy and a bit on the mild spicy side. I would definitely tell them to make it spicier next time but it’s a good dish!
The chili paneer is soft but the gravy is super delicious! Paired it with the veg fried rice and it was great!
Definitely returning to have more!

Hakka cottage is easily my favourite restaurant for Hakka food. My partner and I frequently get their lunch special during the weekdays and are obsessed with their dry chili chicken. It is absolute perfection. I recently got a large catering order for 30 people yesterday for my birthday party and the food was incredible! All of my friends absolutely loved the food and commented on how delicious and fresh everything was. The prices are extremely reasonable too and the food was absolutely delicious. We loved the dry chili chicken, dragon shrimp (so good), vegetable pakora, chicken wings (so fresh and crispy), vegetable fried rice and the hakka noodles! The catering sizes were huge and we had plenty of leftovers for my friends to take home. The owner of Hakka Cottage is such a kind and thoughtful man and he gave us recommendations for our order. Would highly recommend this restaurant and we will definitely continue to be a frequent customer here :)

Amazing Hakka food. We ordered for pick up, phone call was quickly answered, we ordered, we were told 20 minutes. Food was ready on time, already packaged! We got the Manchurian chicken fried rice, Bombay chicken, and Chili beef with gravy and everything was 10/10. The Bombay chicken has a nice little crisp to it and a lovely kick. The rice was fantastic too! My partner loved the beef as well! Would definitely recommend!

The interior of this restaurant was surprisingly nice! Had the weekday lunch special for 10.99, which included a drink or soup or egg roll.

The server was able to answer questions about how each dish was prepared, and made recommendations for gluten-free options and modifications. They checked on us during the meal and were very pleasant. Even after we had paid, they returned to fill our water.

Food arrived very quickly and was delicious! I had the sweet and sour chicken soup and the Beef 88 with rice as I was looking for something not battered. (Hubby has the Manchurian beef) Despite being described as a "dry" preparation, I was pleased to find it did have a sauce; it just wasn't drowning in it! I recommend this dish as the beef was amazingly soft, seasoned perfectly and with a perfect amount of heat (I'd say slightly less than medium). (Photo is the tiny bit I saved to enjoy later!) Hubby also enjoyed his, which was more soy/ginger based.

We'll be returning for the great service and tasty food, at a good price.
