I came to Taipei in 2018 and the museum was undergoing renovations

This museum comprises a big collection of mainland China handicraft such as bronze sculptures, porcelaine, and water based paintings. These reliques date from several dinasties. You can really appreciate though this collection how a civilization evolved economically, politically and culturally. I really recommend to visit this museum when you are in Taipei.
Furthermore, it has a beautiful, small lotus lake and a big garden at the back with endemic flowers which you can enjoy through a calming walk.
Inside the museum there is a restaurant which menu looks pretty delicious.
More relevant, on the last floor there's a tea house which offers the best tea I've ever tried. This is a must go visit.
In the same area, there's this school for learning handicraft and a radio broadcasting station. All of them you can visit and it's worthy as the building's architecture is very traditional and colorful.

I experienced a hard time to get to this place, walked all the way from Chiang Kai Sek Memorial Hall and walked through Taipei Botanical Garden; and when I got there, they're closed for renovations but this place looks nice from the outside
First of all, i would say it is doubtlessly the best museum in the Chinese world and one of the top notch museums in on earth, based on the content on display. They display mainly the royal collection of treasures from Ming and Qing dynasty. The admission is really affordable at NT350 and it is a must go attraction for all tourists. The artifects are well organised, and you can wall through the building systematically. There is also an electronic audio guide that is available for rental at NT150. The souvenir shop sells gorgeous collectables and the restaurant beside it, 故宫晶华serves quality food.
Compared to other museums that Ive been to, this museum is a lot more smaller. Artworks and artifacts are limited.

There's a cafe inside and an entrance fee of 15ND. You may still wanna drop by once for experience but can't be included in you itinerary.

Must visit. Depending on time of the year there are different exhibitions on each of the 4 levels. Learnt a lot more about Taiwan history through photos and artifacts.
Taiwan lacks a proper history museum dedicated to the cultural and political history of the island, particularly its recent history as the Republic of China. In place of such a museum is this one. Its permanent exhibitions include exquisite archaeological artifacts, but all are from the mainland. I thought the most relevant exhibition is the one on Taiwanese indigenous art called ”Amazing Homeland”, which only runs until early September 2017. The other exhibitions -- Picasso and Paris-inspired art -- are more European than Taiwanese.
I hope they can curate a more comprehensive collection that presents Taiwan’s rich history and highlights the country’s economic progress and democratic ideals.
