The service was slow, and we had 2 or 3 different waiters. It was very busy, though, and the vibes were booming. We ordered some cocktails and a starter of Mussels, which weren't fantastic, but not bad. We will give this place another shot sometime.

I went in on Saturday night for a supper. The restaurant is on the outside with views of the big TV, which was nice to catch the Olympics.

On arrival, we were seated immediately by our waitor, and the restaurant was fairly busy. The food arrived timeously as they most patrons were there for a show, so they tried to expedite orders.

I chose to have the chicken fillet with mushroom sauce and sweet potato fries. The portion size was decent, with 2 fillets and the chips. The taste and falvour profile was decent.

I would return to try other options.

The first time we visited we had the Caril De Grão (vegetarian curry), a Chicken curry and the Coffee Caramel (Portuguese style Créme brulee). I was in heaven! Everything from the service, the food and the dékor was 5 Stars! We came to watch The Sound of Music in theatre.

Today we visited again to see Mamma Mia in theatre. The menu was updated and looks fantastic! I also love that almost all the dishes has Portuguese names and also a few more traditional dishes were added.

My husband ordered the Trinchado pasta (the rump steak cubes were not tender enough to our taste, but other than that it was tasty) and Passion Fruit Mousse which he enjoyed.

To my utmost dissappointment, they took the chicken curry off the menu. Instead they have chicken and prawn curry. After a while of searching for something else, I asked if they could remove the prawn. They could, but I just decided to order the Chicken fillet. It was good. The side of tomato rice was delicious, but the extra Milho Frito was a bit oily to my taste. The roasted garlic mayo was mouth watering!

Our waitress had a bad day, so I would rather not go into all that. Let's give her a break and give her the benefit of the doubt.

My Coffee Caramel was the highlight of my dining experience. Desert heaven! For those of you who do not like a sweet desert, give this a try. Thank you! (My husband did not like it at all, but I did not like his... ;-) I will have it every time!

We will be back and also refer our friends.

Let me start off with the good:
- Gin Cocktails - 10/10. Generous with the Gin, flavourful, worth the R85 price tag.
- Paste de nata's - 10/10. Best we've ever had!

Not so great. The food..
- Rump espatada - Rump was tough, had tons of sinew and was a difficult meal to eat. Had to saw away at it with the steak knife. At almost R200 for the meal it was not worth it.
- Trinchado - meat was tough. Unpleasant to chew. Flavour was good, but quality of meat leaves a lot to be desired.
- Strawberry daiquiri - Tasted like Strawberry syrup. Super sweet and artificial tasting.

Amazing food and service. Visited after our show at the Teatro and they were packed bit made us a table right away. Food was delicious and even though it was busy, it was quick and efficient. Thank you to Leon our waiter for a great evening :)

Quite surprised with the low ratings that this restaurant has. Portugalo is located in the outdoor piazza of Montecasino and as the name suggests serves Portuguese inspired cuisine.
We were welcomed by “Ethicks” and had a wonderful experience. The decor is lovely, service was very good and the food delicious. The prices were quite reasonable too.

Tried the fried Green beans and steamed cod fish croquettes followed by a baby chicken ending with the Pasteis de Nata for dessert. Every dish was fresh and flavored just right. The service was excellent where “Ethicks” made sure that he checked on us regularly without being intrusive. The restaurant was quite busy that night but food came out quite quickly.

Definitely recommended for a lovely meal at this establishment.

First time eating at PortuGalo, and I was really surprised with the food, the ambiance, and the outstanding service of my waiter called Andrew. My prawn and chicken curry on coconut rice was just next level. It is so lovely and tranquil to overlook the water fountain..
