City Bird Sanctuary

Chandigarh Bird Sanctuary, nestled in the heart of the city, is a hidden gem for nature lovers and bird enthusiasts. Spread across a lush 2.02 square kilometers, this sanctuary provides a peaceful retreat from the urban hustle and bustle. Visitor amenities are thoughtfully provided, including benches for resting, clear signage, and observation points that offer spectacular views of the birds in their natural habitat. We went to the City Bird Sanctuary, Chandigarh at sec 21, today, 08 July 2024. Google maps showed Sanctuary open till 1900h. On reaching the gate, it had boards stating that the Santuary is open. As we entered, a person without uniform, stopped us from entering. On asking his status at the Sanctuary, he could not confirm any identification of being an employee of the Sanctuary.
The Sanctuary had no birds or employees who could guide us.
It was wastage of time and vehicle fuel. The bird Sanctuary appears to be shut indefinitely for which the forest department has not put any board.
Google maps need amendments too.

Please note that there are two bird parks in Chandigarh. The one here is CITY BIRD SANCTUARY in Sector 21 . As of April 2024 it is a normal park with walking areas . There is a restricted and locked area know as the core of sanctuary. However the pics in google maps showing many birds is of the Bird Park which is near Rock Garden. I find many people wrongly visitng the city bird sanctuary at Sector 21 misguided by the pics in google. So incase you want to visit those birds pls visit bird park near rock garden.

This is good place to spend time with your children. Not lots of birds here but the some special breed of parrots is the major birds to look for, which u won't see at many places. So that is some thing different
