Staff good but not right place and details regarding correct place difficult to find . Would try not to use again as poor service

Oh boy. It takes some effort to be the worst delivery firm in the UK in 2024 but DPD are the run out easy winners.
I’ve had two interactions with DPD since the New Year which should highlight how immeasurable useless they are as a company.
Interaction one: we bought a treadmill via a company in England. Before we bought it, we specifically confirmed that the delivery people would bring the treadmill upstairs for us. No problem, we were told, that’s all part of the service with DPD. Well, not according the two gentlemen who delivered it, who left the package on the front door and refused point blank to set foot into the house. The treadmill ended up being returned and our money was refunded, so it just cost us time but it cost the firm who had employed DPD a sale.
That’s all a bit useless, right?
Interaction two: i sold an item and the buyer arranged for DPD to pick the item up. I picked a day I was wfh so I wouldn’t miss them, and I waited for the knock on the door. Nothing all day. When I came downstairs after work, the large box of cat food which had been delivered earlier that morning had gone missing from the doorstep. Hmm. I check with DPD and it turns out they have picked up a month’s supply of cat food and sent it to London instead of the Venice they were meant to pick up. The box of cat food wasn’t labeled for DPD, nor did they knock the door or even leave a collection receipt, they just rocked up and took whatever package was on the doorstep.
That isn’t even the end of the story. I phoned their ‘customer service’ line and spoke to a delightful young lady who assured me it had been resolved, the box intercepted pre flight to London, and it would be returned to me on Monday. No, she couldn’t give me a tracking or reference number. Monday morning came and I got an email telling me my package had arrived safely in London. This felt like a flat out lie told to me because the customer service rep couldn't be bothered helping me..
The buyer of my item is kindly sending me the cat food back, should hopefully have it by the weekend. Maybe.
Let’s recap, shall we? DPD do two things, broadly speaking, they pick stuff up and they drop stuff off. That’s it. In the past four months I’ve had them do both things for me. When they dropped stuff off to me, they didn’t deliver it as they promised they would and as a result cost the firm who employed them a hefty sale. When they picked stuff up from me they picked up the wrong box, an almost staggering act illogical act, and managed to send my cats’ food on a holiday! Finally, I was flat out lied to by the customer service team.
At least they are consistently awful. That’s the best I can say for them.
Edit: Cat food arrived today, 13 days after the incorrectly picked it up. Some company.
