From the lower level of historical downtown, the steps provide immediate access to the St. Peter Church. Further along, the Harper Cemetery and other historic sites are also present. Eventually, the path splits, allowing a route to reach the Appalachian Trail.

Regarding the steps themselves, they are fairly steep and many in number. No handrails are present, so only those confident in their climbing ability should take this route.

This is the start of a short hike to Jefferson Rock and Harper Cemetery, which offer commanding views of historic Harpers Ferry. The walk path is part of the famed Appalachian Trail. After your visit, you can claim that you've hiked the trail, albeit just a short portion of it if you are pressed for details. :)
One of the original supervisory buildings of the Armory, at the crest of the hill, that served as a commanding post when infantry troops set their camp along the eastern slope.
The work that went in to carving these steps into the hillside is remarkable and resourceful.

Central part of the town leading up to St. Peter Church.
Discovered these sort of by accident while roaming around Harpers Ferry. The steps themselves are a remarkable piece of history. In addition, if you follow them up the hill; they lead to a beautiful, little church. Walk a bit further, and you arrive at Jefferson's Rock. This was my favorite discovery in Harpers Ferry.
