The Scaliger Tombs are a group of five Gothic tombstones in They house members of the Scaliger family, which ruled Verona from the 13th to the late 14th century. The tombs are located in front of the church of Santa Maria Antica.

A Night to Remember at Verona Arena

Stepping into the Verona Arena is like taking a step back in time. This ancient Roman amphitheater, standing strong since the 1st Century AD, is a sight to see all on its own. It's huge, and you can just feel the history in the air. But when night falls, and Verdi’s Aida begins, it's something else entirely.

Imagine this – hundreds of performers taking the stage in this gigantic, open-air venue. The Arena’s stone walls and the night sky are the backdrop to the epic love story unfolding before your eyes. The music is stirring, filling the entire space, making the experience even more emotional. The costumes, the sets, and the talent of the performers are top-notch, making you feel like you’ve been transported right to ancient Egypt.

Experiencing Aida at the Verona Arena is something you've got to do at least once. It's an amazing combination of history and artistry, and seeing an opera here, under the stars, is something you’ll never forget. It’s a night filled with unbelievable music, powerful performances, and a unique atmosphere that you just can’t get anywhere else. In short, it’s just incredible.

The Verona Arena is a true architectural marvel that captures the essence of history and grandeur. This well-preserved Roman amphitheater, crafted from stunning pink and white limestone, leaves visitors in awe with its colossal structure, graceful arches, and tiered seating. What sets it apart is its vibrant use as a venue for live performances, showcasing its legendary acoustics. It's best to purchase tickets online and skip the long queues at the counters. I highly recommend.

The tombs are outside of a church - magnificent and intriguing, but there's just a few of them so don't expect anything super special. The entrance was on a basis of donations, and we even got a guide in English.
Very spacious and chill square in the beating centre of the city.
It's while looking at the arena you truly feel like being transported to ancient times. The building is magnificent and awe inspiring. The only "bad" (not truly bad, but for us as visitors) thing was that it was being prepared for an opera performance, which kind of takes the vibe away a bit. But of course, it's amazing it's still being used today and I wouldn't want it any other way. The queues are super long, so it's definitely worth it buying the ticket online or using the Verona card that allows you to skip the line.

Beautiful and ancient town boasting the remains of a Roman amphitheatre reputedly slightly older than the one in Rome. Not to be missed are Juliet's (supposed) balcony and statue. Lovely quaint streets full of shops abound, as do restaurants and bars. Be prepared to do a lot of walking to see all the sights and items of interest in this incredibly historical place.

Wow, this place is older than the Coliseum in Rome. This place also hosts events like the summer opera series. It has cushioned seats in the lower part and then the old step seating up top. It isn't as crowded as it is in Rome. A must visit.

The arena in Verona is one of the best-preserved Roman arenas anywhere. Even the Colliseum in Rome has come down a fair bit. Moreover, in Verona the arena is in the center of the town and there is a very active shopping and dining area full of life and activity. The city is also the setting of two of Shakespeare's plays, the eternal love story Romeo & Juliet and the Two Gentlemen of Verona.

Indeed this place will remind you of the Clouseaum of Roma, Italy. Verona is little Rome, just because of this building. A very beautiful place in the city. If you are travelling to Verona, don't miss out on this beautiful place in the city. The interior of this building is often occupied with concerts stages and opera performances. Always buy the tickets beforehand to avoid any long ques to visit this marvellous place.

Really enjoyed the visit. Booked tickets online in advance, which saved quite a queue on the day. Much is open including some of the inside walkways. Toilets at various places. It was interesting to learn about the history and also to see how it is used today 2000 years later for opera performances. Could sit and reflect for as long as we wished. Definitely the highlight of Verona.

It's nice, definitely a Veronese Hallmark, and a powerful and valuable attraction - go and see a show if you're in town. (5*)

Deducting 2 stars because the chairs (the metal ones, in the middle height section) are really uncomfortable (they lean forwards and you slide off). It's like the director never tried one. After 4 hours it's quite tough and annoying.
Schöne Aussicht über die Stadt!

To listen Verdi in Verona Arena is unforgettable experience. 15000 people are keeping their breath and it is like you are alone with the music under the stars and the moon... and filling the connection with the ancestors. It is magical! On top, such spectacular work is done with the decors! And they re-build the scene (literally) for each act! It is a must see!
Beautiful location and walk or fenuncular to top of hill overlooking all of Verona.
... a magnificent Fountain in a magnificent Square !

Not sure if it's worthy to visit inside, you can enjoy the beauty of the place even at the center of the piazza
Amazing views, lovely small city with scenic castle and very nice scenery. Lots of restaurants and cafes. Not to busy definitely worth visiting. We also took a swim in the lake and it was very nice. Plenty of parking available mostly paid for 2euro per hr. Beach with pebbles so don’t forget swim shoes. Beautiful place.

Went to the arena on a weekday, it was not that busy at all. I recommend to take the Verona pass for 20€ to skip the queue. The Verona pass is also applicable for the other attractions within Verona.
The Arena is well maintained and the culture of this monument is explained well with pictures and audio information. You are allowed to enter the Arena and sit wherever you want to check the view from different seating classes. When I was there they were preparing the Arena for a Opera in June. So we also got to see some of the settings and backdrops of the opera.

Very interesting and lavish tombs of (probably) very arrogant people. We used our entrance tickets from other museums in the area which allowed us to do so. Would recommend, but not if you have to pay a separate price.

Dobre miejsce by podziwiać zachód słońca.
Very cute small fountain 🥰

Really, I felt good in this place. It is the city’s outlet and the main square overlooks the restaurants and the square has this beautiful fountain… Everything is beautiful in Verona. It is a city with an identity that you will not forget because it is difficult to visit cities with a unique identity.

When I was leaving the Piazza sei Signori i was not expecting to stumble across this extraordinary gothic funerary monument from the 14th century standing there out in the street (I learnt a lot reading there 😅, costs 1 euro to enter)

Verona surprised me almost in every corner.

Masterpieces. From Piazza dei Signori, passing by the Palazzo del Capitano, we arrive at the place where the church of Santa Maria Antica is located . Immediately there are the graves of the Della Scala family ( Arche Scaligere ). The Scaliger Tombs (or Arche Scaligere) in Verona are a funerary complex built by the Della Scala family, who ruled over the city between the 13th and the 14th century.
It is impressive that in Verona, so a lot of magnificent buildings and masterpieces created. Built in Gothic style, the most outstanding is the beauty of the magnificence grave the Cangrande (1291-1329), the most important and famous member of this aristocratic dynasty. Well worth a visit.

A piazza that dates from the Middle Age and is in the historical center of a very interesting city deserves to be seen. Also known as Piazza Dante (after all, there's a statue of the great writer there), it's framed by beautiful buildings and arcades.
Amazing place. Ran into it during heavy rain and was impressed by the ancient style of architecture.

Arches Scaligers

Verona, Via Santa Maria Antica, 1

The arches of Scaligero, the tombs of the three rulers of Verona from the dynasty ruling there in the 13-14 centuries, are the only one of a kind “suspended” burial, a monument of medieval Gothic. The family coat of arms depicts a staircase (it. Scala), from this word the name of the founder of the family, Mastino della Scala, originated.

Soaring burials, despite the beautiful architectural ensemble, look a bit gloomy ... in my opinion ... Although it is very subjective. In any case, interesting, unusual and informative 😍
