I’ve been a loyal fan of Crossroads Thrift Shop in the University District since 2004. Back then, their beautifully curated selection of vintage and designer finds made every visit a treasure hunt. As I transitioned from college into the tech world and could afford Nordstrom's and Neiman Marcus' couture, my love for Crossroads never waned. It’s why, as my husband and I prepare to move overseas, I chose to resell my cherished designer wardrobe here. I wanted someone else to experience the thrill I once had discovering like-new designer couture at this iconic shop.

Unfortunately, my recent visit was nothing short of disheartening. I brought in four meticulously organized boxes of luxury items: a never-worn Burberry rain jacket, purse, and boots, Dior and Louis Vuitton sunglasses, Coach and LV purses, Manolo Blahnik heels, and more. The courteous younger employees explained the process, which I appreciated. After an hour of waiting, they selected a few items, offering me $24 for pieces I didn’t expect them to choose while deeming my designer pieces “out of style.”

As someone with professional experience helping high-end brands optimize their online presence, I know the value of timeless fashion. What surprised me wasn’t just the lowball offer but the apparent lack of knowledge about luxury goods.

While waiting, I noticed a worrying trend—no shoppers seemed to be making legitimate purchases. Instead, the store was teeming with individuals visibly distressed or experiencing homelessness. Multiple people blatantly stuffed items into backpacks or under their clothes, unchecked. One woman left the store after selling clothing only to be seen moments later aiding a man pushing a stolen television in a wheelchair down the street.

The surrounding neighborhood, once a vibrant hub of eclectic dining and shopping, has sadly deteriorated. The streets were filled with the stench of urine, vomit, and decay, with homelessness visibly rampant. It felt like the vibrant, safe community I adored had completely vanished.

I want to emphasize that the staff was polite and kind, even in the face of these challenges. Their leniency toward vulnerable individuals is commendable in principle, but the store’s inability to maintain security or uphold a high standard for inventory is disheartening. I left feeling a deep sense of loss—not just for the shop but for the neighborhood I once loved.

To anyone considering a visit, I’d suggest caution. Crossroads isn’t the gem it once was, and the environment might leave you feeling more disheartened than inspired. I sincerely hope this store and the neighborhood can find their way back to being the incredible, vibrant spaces they used to be.

I've been shopping here for at least 6 years, and I've seen the prices get more and more unreasonable in recent years. The lower end items are priced at, or often above, retail price for a NEW item. The higher end items are usually priced around the higher side of the band for that item on the secondary market, where grailed listings would sit for years without being purchased. Occasionally by some miracle they will put something on the floor that is priced reasonably and in good condition. Whoever sets the pricing guidelines needs to get their head checked.
Good small crossroads trading store location ,for a small location it's got good verity accessories & clothing , staff here are friendly and awesome service with me .it's in a good location in a central location part of U DISTRICT and its next to the merto train station in U district . Parking around it's alot of pay parking on the streets . This location is popular can get very busy at times.

Don’t waste your time selling here. I brought in a bag today with either new or excellent condition items from Aritzia, Free People, Madewell and Revolve. They passed on everything because they weren’t the right “styles.” I waited about 20 minutes in line just to get called to the selling counter. The people who do the buying clearly have no taste & are young gen z-ers with no personal senses of style and just wear mindless/trendy work wear type stuff. Most of what I brought in was also a size XL or 2XL, so the buyers hating plus size people could have something to do with it. All the clothes they’re selling on the racks are all trendy crop tops and ugly sweatshirts that are overpriced. Just an overall massive waste of time.

I love Jill’s taste level, especially her attention to detail in the quality and specifically the sensuality of her fabric choices. Her clothing feels even better than it looks on you. Her employees have always been such sweet and stylish young ladies, and have always treated me like gold. They are extremely helpful, without getting in your way as you shop. I highly recommend visiting Horseshoe if you find yourself in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. Kate Connors *professional traditional North American leathersmith

Waited (literally) 2 hours to get my stuff looked at… but they took 20+ items and the buy price was very fair :) everyone was very nice too. I think all the bad reviews are from people who are impatient or can’t stand when people say no to them/can’t accept the items they brought in are not trendy/sellable.

I can’t tell you how awesome the ladies at The ReFind Closet are. Their live shows are so fun and Jeannine and the ladies are so knowledgeable. I ❤️❤️❤️ all of my “finds” at The ReFind Closet
There is a lot of overpriced fast-fashion (only brands that they consider “nice”).
Part of the staff is very unfriendly and snobby. Some of the clothes on sale are not in good condition, like the ones with washing machine marks, and they sell for almost $25 or more.
There is no transparency in selling rules.
You can find better clothes and prices in places like the Assistance League and Goodwill.

Interesting store. It’s essentially a curated selection of really high quality toys (mostly made from wood). The toys themselves are also quite stimulating, high fidelity, and tactile. They all seem to have some problem solving or building aspect to it that clearly helps foster a child’s brain development. These really are unique toys.

Also worth noting that the clerk offered to wrap our order free of charge (we were buying these gifts for a birthday party) and the wrap job itself was so bespoke and exceptional that it honestly was worth the price we paid for the toys alone.

Love the authentic merchandise and people that work there. They are helpful, professional, and friendly. Will definitely sell and buy there again for sure. Their Instagram page is super cute too.
Jeannine and her team are simply incredible and have the best vintage luxury accessories around. Her live shows on instagram are the most fun as well , I strongly recommend!

The lack of (or non existing) laws & regulations in the states around luxury resell business’, it’s always a good idea to be knowledgeable & informed about counterfeit products, as it’s a multi-billion dollar industry just in North America alone.
I had to bring back a top that was sold to me (I recognize it was fake but also photos were sent to me by my SA from direct retailer in New York for confirmation).
When watching their Live on Instagram, they self admittedly do not authenticate (unless they can provide entropy on bags & very limited jewelry items only in recent months)… in addition, the response I received when returning my top, it gave me further disdain to their business practice. Even thought there are no real guarantees nor methods of authentication process, the intake team at Refind has no real basic knowledge of products & pricing from countless examples many of us (community of former regular customers) has seen.
Consumers need to be knowledge about when buying items that are hundred & thousands of dollars, and/or often can be even exceed to $10k+.

Pretty Woman Vibes!!!

I was so excited to visit this store after watching so many of their Instagram Lives. Like others here have posted, I left feeling uncomfortable and judged. Upon being let into the store, I was offered no service; meanwhile, the "regulars" (or whomever they deem is worthy) were all given special and individual attention. I was disappointed to not get that experience as I was looking forward to buying one of their purses. On top of that, when I went to leave, I waited by the door to be let out (they have to unlock the door for you); three staff members walked by me without noticing me or offering to help. I've truly have never felt so invisible.

Staff is always warm & welcoming! Love the product they carry. Excellent displays.
Used fast fashion for new prices. If you want used urban outfitters, Zara, etc, just wait for their sales and buy new.

They were not interested in buying any of my high quality clothes because " they wouldn't sell".

However, this is not stated anywhere on their " what to sell guide" I followed their instructions and brought only things that were season appropriate and " on trend", using the selling pamphlet as a guide.

When I asked clarifying questions about why they wouldn't sell, I was provided with an answer seeped in circle reasoning.

Does the staff have guidelines or are they influenced by power and personal bias?

More transparency is needed.

Why waste my time and energy dragging 50 lbs of clothes into the store when you're not going to give an accurate description of what you want?

Based on other reviews high end items are a thing of the past at this location.

You can use Thred up instead and mail in your clothes without needing to make an appointment or wait in a long line.

The staff is very unfriendly excluding one employee who helped me. (Young employees who probably get a power trip from being in control of whether you get money or not) This includes the person that helps you with the fitting room, who rudely ignores you and doesn't smile.

I've picked up one sweatshirt that I love from crossroads.

Absolutely love Horseshoe Boutique. I’ve been shopping there for 7 years and always have found the perfect pieces, in a very comfortable and welcoming setting. Still have and wear the pieces I bought 7 years ago, the ones I bought 2 years ago, and excited for the items I bought today.

If you love country & western wear, or Nashville honky tonk style, then you’d love Gold Dogs in Ballard… They have a LOT of vintage cowboy boots for men and women, as well as clothes, cowboy hats, lariat ties, jewelry, western belt buckles, and flannel shirts for days.

If you’re going to a country music concert or outdoor music festival, you can probably find a great outfit here!

Such a mouthwatering selection of beautiful country and western gear. Only gripe might be that the used items are all a bit pricey, but I guess that’s the trade off for such a well curated selection. Staff was super friendly and helpful — nice to see a store like this not full of masculine male employees.

Huge selection of bolos, belt buckles and boots. Spent a solid 30 minutes combing through all their shirts and still not sure I saw them all. Also a good selection of new gear, though I wish they had more country-related band tees. Will 100% return.

The clothes here were all super cute! I didn't end up buying anything because I am really tall and everything I liked they didn't have in stock in a large. However, the women working in this shop were so so nice! They asked what we were up to and we started talking about how we were on vacation so one woman wrote down a bunch of recommendations on places we should check out. They did not disappoint! We really appreciated the kind service even when we didn't buy anything. Thank you for helping making our vacation even more enjoyable! This is true customer service.

Horseshoe is one of my very favorite gems in Ballard! Every single one of the gals who work there are incredibly sweet, helpful, and stylish. As a fashion industry lady myself, I appreciate their extensive knowledge of fit and styling for body shape. While they have encouraged me to try things I may never have picked out for myself (to my delight, as I have taken home and loved MANY of these recommendations!), I have never once felt pressured at all while I’m shopping. The experience is always positive, safe, comfortable, laid back, and of course, fun. I love the genuine enthusiasm for fashion.

The buyers are exceptionally talented and thoughtful with the products and brands they source. It’s so fun to see the new treasures they have brought into the store each week - always something fresh to see. I get so many compliments on the unique pieces I find at Horseshoe, and I just love to tell people where I found them. Bonus: it always smells like Hawaii in there, I even bought the gardenia perfume they spritz around the store!

I recently visited The Refind Closet and felt compelled to share my experience. Unfortunately, I encountered some aspects that left me deeply disappointed, overwhelmed and uncomfortable.

The customer service at Refine Closet fell short of expectations. I observed instances where customers were treated differently based on their racial background. It's disheartening to witness such behavior, as customer service should be inclusive and welcoming to everyone. When arriving, the door was gated and locked. I can tell from the sales associates Faces that they hesitated to open the door when they saw A BLACK MAN.

The overall atmosphere in the store seemed unwelcoming. I couldn't help but notice subtle signs of racial bias, which made me feel uncomfortable during my visit. The sale associate checked on me about 20x. I couldn't even look around in peace. It felt a bit forceful. I shouldn't have to feel like I'm walking on eggshells when trying to purchase a gift for my mom.

While Refine has a decent selection of products, the experience was overshadowed by the discriminatory atmosphere. It's crucial for businesses to create an environment where all customers feel valued and respected. Being that I was trying to support a local business during the holiday.

I believe that addressing these issues head-on and implementing diversity and inclusion training for staff members would greatly benefit. It's essential to create an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome, regardless of their background.

In a world that strives for inclusivity, it's disheartening to encounter instances of discrimination. I hope that The Refine Closet takes steps to address these concerns and create a more positive and inclusive environment for all customers.

xx

I’ve made a handful of orders through Simply Seattle, and they’ve always been simply the best! Quality is top notch, and my items are always delivered quickly. Their cute and current designs makes me a customer for life!
I found so many clothing staples here. I’m more willing to try on things I normally wouldn’t in consignment shops— and it’s how I’ve found my favorite pieces. Wonderfully curated and with 2 fitting rooms.

I am a visitor to USA and was strolling Ballard. I was drawn in to your store by the name and the window displays. What a find 💚. Firstly, the styling in the store is amazing - I loved the way clothes are put together and displays layed out. Secondly, the staff! Immediately welcoming. And even though I was just looking I was made very welcome. I work in retail, and you can immediately tell a genuine welcome and someone who loves their job and is very good at what they do. The staff even recommended a place to have lunch nearby, and it was so good that I had to pop back in to Horseshoe to say thanks for the recommendation!! The clothes are gorgeous, I saw lots of things that if I wasn’t travel and on a budget I would happily add to my wardrobe. Thanks for a lovely experience x

I was trying to find a Seattle hat for my Mom and you would be shocked at how few places have hats at gift shops, almost like that is not a thing there. Simply Seattle had me covered though and is not too far from Pike Place. Hats will run you $27-$35, which isn't too insane. Recommend if you need a quick gift. It's not too far from the metro either.

This store is actually clean and well organized. I was able to park at university bookstore parking lot. Front desk staff are very efficient: checked in as 8th on the list, was able to finish within 30 minutes. The staff explained well about the process and their buying criteria though I only sold two items. The remaining would be better off donated to goodwill for itemized tax deductions. Also noticed you can sell by mail.

Modern basics with flair. When I'm looking for something versatile, a piece I'll wear a lot but has a little oomph to it that sets it apart....I come to Horseshoe. I love this store!!! I make special trips from Tacoma just to come here.
Horseshoe has a great mix of core pieces with popping colors and prints for the season. Decent size range... though like most stores I think they could carry more units of larger sizes (call me greedy).
Beautifully laid out, with a fabulous staff. Latest staff shout out: thank you Rachel for seeing if you could get me a cardigan and calling about a skirt. You're amazing!!
I stumbled across The Refind about 6 months ago and have become a regular follower ever since. The entire team are warm, friendly and very knowledgeable. Most importantly they are very welcoming even if you are just a regular person who likes nice things and not some fashionista. Don't be intimidated to visit or check out their IG lives. They have excellent quality items and offer really good value for money. It is not just a store - it is more like a community!

I would also like to add that I am very much a middle-aged plus-size person who does not conform to any traditional high fashion "norms" and as such am often reluctant to go into designer stores for fear of being looked down on. With The Refind the experience has been just the opposite. The staff are extremely welcoming and inclusive, embrace diversity and the beauty in everybody.

It's so size exclusive here. I wear a 29, and I can't even zipper up a 33! I made the mistake of buying pants without trying them on, and I returned them 24 hours later and all they give is in store credit. I get that's my fault for not trying them on, but they we are 31 and I couldn't get them over my thighs? I'm giving 2 stars because I do love the band t shirts, but the pants sizing is awful and it's disappointing.

Here, you can find excellent and unique Seattle souvenirs for your trip. It is located just nearby the Pike Place market, making it very convenient to grasp things you like while on the way. The staff is so friendly and hospitable with visitors. They attentively suggest special items for your gifts or personal things. With only like 4 different styles of hat,it is VERY underwhelming. I made a special trip to the market just to go to the store in the hopes of finding a fedora, a top hat and a cowboy hat and none of these were sold there. With just a few hat designs and most of the styles managing to look the same I don't think I'll ever waste my time with this one again

Very disappointed with the way they do business here! The person I communicated with over the phone was very friendly and told me to bring in my items for her to look at then after driving over 30 minutes to get there she refused to even look through them (most of which were brand new and had sales tags still on them), and gave me an entirely different story about her “overstocked inventory,” “waiting time”, etc. The person was dishonest with me and inconsiderate. Clean store, quality clothing, but high prices. You can get some of the same brands at other thrift stores for a fraction of the price. Gather IS for you if you are into high-end fashion, prefer not to spend time sifting through racks at the Goodwill, and don't mind paying $30 for a used name-brand t-shirt.

I have never had such a positive personal-shopper experience in Seattle; Zoe and the crew model what they put out, which is exceptional style and service. They had me diversifying my wardrobe with pieces and pairs I would have not originally envisioned for myself. Gold Dogs and the crew is everything you want in a local seller; yes, they are trying to sell you the look but do so with genuine interest and excitement for helping you appear at your best. Not to mention my friend and I were treated to a post-purchase glass of wine- the second best part of the experience. Cannot wait to stop in again (when my bank account has had time to recover). Thank you!

They were so kind and helpful and funny! If I ever go back to Seattle I’m coming here again! 100% recommend this shop to anyone who is visiting Seattle!
Very nice items. fairly priced, check out sale tag for good deals. friendly staff. Heart of Columbia City shopping/restaurants!
