This is the spot to be, so nice and relaxing. I picked a super windy day to go and it was still amazing. Definitely worth seeing

It is a very cute park for small children.
Great for a hike or a bike ride!
Quiet park right next to the oldest continuously active Catholic parish in colonial America. Neat place.
Have visited a few times as an Amateur Radio Operator doing something called "Park's On The Air". This is Where you go to a State or Federal park, setup a small portable ham radio station, and make at least 10 contacts with people around the country and the world with a small radio and small antenna. The park rangers have never troubled me or my fellow amateur radio friends, except once when one decided to use a tree for an antenna support which is not allowed according to the Ranger. This particular Ranger was pretty rude about it as well, but haven't encountered anymore like that yet. It's a big spacious park, but they have limited parking. During the weekends in the summer the park fills quickly and the Rangers block the entrance road. They let cars in as cars leave, but that doesn't happen much. People usually stay for several hours at a time.
Lookup "TheTypicalHam" for more on Amateur Radio.
Great public space to bring the family. Sometimes we like to pop down to the wharf for a quick 15min visit and loop around the walking path when we need a little mother nature in our lives. Great for a picnic or to launch kayaks and other watercraft. They hold events down there relatively frequently.
Went to the wharf on a Friday evening and saw a couple of local bands at the waterfront. It was awesome! Food trucks, local winery had a booth, and even local cigar shop had a tent. Everyone was well behaved.
This past weekend (5-6Aug2023) was a singular experience with the addition of Mama Duck (the world's largest rubber duck) to the population of Leonardtown. The Wharf itself was not entirely visible because of this 60' behemoth. Outside of Wharf-fest, the park is a quaint, well maintained, multi-purpose space with sufficient parking for mid-day stops and within walking distance of the "center" of Leonardtown. I've visited to sit on a bench and watch the bay as well as used it as a launching spot for kayaks and stand-up paddle boards. There have been food trucks down there periodically and like I said, it's a short walk up the hill to some nice local restaurants.
Nice not busy beach . Couldn’t get in the water it was filled with jellyfish! The jellyfish where clear so I didn’t know what it was till I came a across the hundreds of snot looking blobs in the sand . Honestly would not return.

Wharf Fest and World's Largest Duck were incredible!! Shout out to Joe of Frog Town Ice Cream who saw the need for rides up the hill, and jumped in with free transport in his own work cart! #frogtownicecream #leonardtownicecreamfrogtown

My husband and I came to see the gigantic yellow duck. I booked the kayak rental online and the on-site service is great. It's the Leonardtown festival so there are stalls for lemonade, ice cream, T-shirts and lots of people. There are two parking lots for this event and some temporary restrooms. It would be so much better if there's a shower to wash off the sand.
Great place for hiking and Biking.
Great park. Unmanned automated gate. $3 per car for MD residents, $5 for out of state. Military and vets should be free per state regs, but couldn’t figure out how that benefit is obtained at the unmanned gate. Call to the posted ranger number went unanswered. Be great if calls were answered or info posted how to obtain access for mil/vets.

The wharf is beautiful, clean, and relaxing. Take a walk by the water, a kayak rental, or even a seasonal boat ride.
Great place to hike. Entry cost though and only sunrise to sunset.
Just a relaxing spot to hang by the water. Nice ice cream stand, little park. Perfect spot for a picnic or to throw a ball around. I've seen people get married here.

It's a good place to go jogging cause they have a challenging hill. If you kayak you can launch at McIntosh creek by the winery and come all the way down to the wharf and back. Super relaxing and scenic. I like coming down here with a little canvas to paint.

They always have a lot of events down here as well.
Beautiful scenery. Nice little place to walk, beautiful sunsets...there's even a place that sells ice cream 🍦 ..it's a wonderful place.
This playground is awesome! It is designed for children ages 2 to 5 years old, according to the sign. My little person spent 2 hours here. The "grassy hill" was a favorite. Run up, roll, run, or slide down the other side. There is also a small slide at the top or travel through the tunnel under it. Additionally, there are a variety of swings, several slides, a modern merry-go-round, log stumps to balance on, a stationary plane to steer, and the opportunity to play on one of the large xylophones. (The zipline was zipped up... out of order). The middle seating area attracts the adults. Just turn your head, and you can most likely have your kid in your sight. There are bathrooms within 30 yards and trash cans available for your snack trash. Plan to spend at least an hour here. Leave your cell phone in the car and get outside with your little love. Enjoy!
Me and my daughter had a lot of fun here. The floors are bouncy rubber and there's a number of fun activities. If you go down the big slides parents, prepare to go fast and land on your butt. :)
Great place to walk and exercise. Be aware that the main white trail path is 7.5 miles. For folks that want a challenge, start at the beginning of the white trail path, as that side has more inclines and declines. For folks that want a less challenging walk, take the white trail, but start where the end of the trail comes out to the parking lot. Next, take the lake view path, but make sure you turn back before you get too far back into the woods. Overall, it was a great trail, but it can be very challenging if you are not prepared to walk the full 7.5 miles.
Very nice and well maintained loop trail around the lake with distance markers every 1/4 mile.

Most of the more scenic views of the lake can be reached about a mile from the parking lot by going counter clockwise.

Recently refurbished parking lot area. Credit card payment to enter ($3). Only restroom is at the parking lot.
this place is amazing many stuff to do it's an overall amazing big playground. I love how there's different options to do, a little swing thing made out of rope and a seat that gets pushed. Then 2 playgrounds ones HUGE and ones a pirate playground.
Such a cute beach in St. Mary's County. We went mid day during the week, so it wasn't busy, but everyone says weekends get crazy busy.

This place was crowded when I visited on a warm spring day. People come here to swim fish and walk around. I came to explore and there is an abundance of animals here to see. Be aware of water snakes (harmless) and other critters. Also if you have the time leave this place better than you found it. I recommend brining a bag to fill with trash that either people have left behind or washed in with the tide. Everyone can do there part. This place is beatiful and deserving of some of your time to keep it that way.
Such a fun playground! There are so many different things to do, it's a great option for parents with children of different ages. There were a lot of kids but because of the size of the playground there was plenty of room. It was clean and well kept up on as well.
Great State Park just north of Saint Mary's City in southern MD. Large lake with a 7.5 mile loop trail. Warning - this is a lake loop, not a lake view trail. There are glimpses of the lake from time to time. However, if you goal on the hike is fantastic lake views, than make sure you start the trail by going left at the start. All of the great lake views will be at the end that way. Trail is very well maintained with mileage markets every quarter mile. There are multiple splits, but they all go back to the main trail. Other warning, only restroom is at the very start of the trail.

Small but nice and clean, dog loved the sandy paths
This is a small, yet beautiful, state park. It has quite a bit of beach recreation area tucked away and can provide a wonderful getaway or family day! The hours of operation during the winter months are 8AM TO SUNSET and change to 7AM TO SUNSET in springtime and summertime. SUNSET IS A SPECIFIC TIME, and can be found by doing a simple google search of Leonardtown sunset and the specific day of the visit. This park has a beach parking lot which only holds about 30 cars when parked neatly. During the summer months and holiday weekends the park FILLS TO CAPACITY so if you are planning a trip here keep that in mind and be prepared. I would recommend trying to arrive before 9AM. The weekdays are usually much calmer but anything can happen. The park offers only one port-o-potty at the beach lot so keep that in mind when planning a visit. The beach parking area of Newtowne Neck State Park closes 15-20 minutes before sunset and the beach closing time will be displayed by the billboard at the beach parking area. This time changes with the variation in sunset times so keep this in mind. The park also offers a kayak launch lot to access Breton Bays wonderful scenery. The Kayak launch lot closes promptly at SUNSET. There is no overnight parking in this lot so if you put in here(with a Kayak) plan on being back and ready to leave the lot by sunset. This park is a wonderful way to relax in the natural beauty of Southern Maryland and great way to escape for a little beach-time!

Always enjoy getting food from nearby and eating at the park. Could use a public restrooms but the wife belongs to the winery at the back of the park.

Has a launch into McIntosh Run. In the summer Patuxent Adventure Center rents out kayaks in the parking lot. Starting out it's a lovely, slow moving, shady paddle. You can follow the run all the way out to Leonardtown Wharf.

At high tide the water level is fine up by the park. On my return trip the water level was much lower and we had to hop out and carry the kayaks over a few spots.

Would not recommend for paddleboarding, unfortunately. Lots of low branches (which yes, you could sit for) but more importantly is the shallowness. It's rocky and will probably take out your fin.

Super pleasant for kayaking, though.
Close to everything, and lots of fun, great folks, very cool people come here!
They really need to keep up with the bathrooms. There are so many gnats and other bugs. Also, need to stock up the lake. It's ok. But, not a place we always go to go fishing. And the park needs to be patrolled more often. And alway boaters, kayaks and canoes to sit at the docks to get their fishing and such taken out or put away
That's what the parking lot is for.
My son loves this playground and never wants to leave. They tore down the wood playground and built this in its place and it's absolutely wonderful! The big sliding board is awesome. Your kids will definitely enjoy being here.
This park was recently rebuilt and it is much improved. It has a zip line, but it is pretty short. Three big nice sounding xylophones. Swings for adults to swing with their small child (see picture). They have so e nice slides including a pretty large one. Also a climbing hill. Good stuff.
This is a very new park has had very little done since the state acquired the land, so as of this writing (April 2017) there are no bathrooms, no trail maps or markers, and just a few small and barely marked parking areas. What it does have is a very rural, away-from-it-all setting, literally miles of beach, old farm roads that can be used as walking and biking trails, and stunning views. For the time being, there is no entrance fee, so to my knowledge this is the only public park in St. Mary's County with free beach access in the summer.
