Lovely staff and lovely coffee. Great location for a break from studying at the library.

Unfortunately, this was a terrible place for lunch. Here’s why:
Customer Service: The staff at the front were more focused on chatting than assisting customers. They walked past us multiple times without even making eye contact
Excessive Wait: We waited over 30 minutes for our food to arrive.
Misleading Menu: The menu photos were completely deceptive. What we received looked nothing like what was advertised. When we asked about the missing mango in our dish, the staff claimed it was “in the sauce.” After requesting fresh mango, the girl reluctantly brought out a tiny amount and dropped it on the table without saying a word. It’s not even fresh cut fruit but canned fruit.
Ridiculous.

Unfortunately our order of 3 coffees arrived only warm. l then had to wait while another flat white oat milk was made 12 mins later on. We’d 2-30pm Coffee Luke warm and the others had to wait
Staff very busy chatting between each other
Heads up management may take some time in refreshing efficiency and customer service
Thankyou

Waited 50 minutes for my food, which is unacceptable. The staff didn’t seem concerned about the delay, and there was no communication or apology. I understand cafes can be busy, but a wait like this with no updates just feels unprofessional. Food wasn’t worth the long wait either—definitely won’t be coming back.

The food and coffee is nice. The cakes are excellent. Unfortunately they are very slow to make and serve the coffee. It can sometimes be 15 minutes between receiving your food and receiving your drink which needs to improved.

Ordered smashed avo on toast and a latte. Toast came very quickly- one measly slice of toast. Get much better in independent local cafes. Finished my food and coffee still hadn't arrived. Spoke with sweet, young waitress who brought coffee quickly. Pretty poor quality coffee but it was hot. Needs better management and quality products.

Terrible.. in the morning I ordered tiramisu cake at this cafe and unfortunately found a small piece of plastic while eating it. At first, I thought it was just something hard, but upon closer inspection, I realized it was plastic. I’m really disappointed, and it raises concerns about safety.

I was looking forward to enjoying a delicious dessert, so this experience was quite upsetting. I hope you can pay more attention to food quality and safety in the future.

I ordered the Croque Monsieur and a coffee. Both came out pretty quickly. The coffee was great but the Croque Monsieur was just okay. It was a bit overdone so the edges were quite hard and had a bit of a burnt taste to it but the centre was good. It came with a small salad on the side which was nice.

The pastries look amazing but haven’t had the chance to try any yet. I’ll be back for those.

Surprised to find a Malaysian Cafe serving Malaysian food in the middle of Colonial Fresh Market.

Tried an irresistible bamboo wrapped dumpling and it was delightful - to be reminded of home with Malaysian “Kopi”…

Awesome experience and great service.

Food is authentically Malaysian. We have our weekly ‘dose’ of Teh tarik and roti there, and tar pau lots of kueh home. It’s a great atmosphere, meeting fellow Malaysians and having a chat with the owner and his staff. I found them to be amazingly friendly and polite, with the familiar warm welcoming every time. They are a respectful bunch, so I am very surprised of some of the negative reviews!

I am a regular customer of this cafe for many years. The food is good and reasonably priced. The owner is generous, accommodating and welcoming. He provides excellent service. I have never witness any disrespectful behaviour or mistreatment of staff. It has been a meeting place of community. There is regular singing fellowship which promotes community wellbeing. Highly recommended.

My experience left a bad taste in my mouth—not because of the food, but due to the owner's shocking mismanagement and disrespectful treatment of staff. During my visit, I witnessed the owner berating employees in a manner that was both unprofessional and downright rude. It was uncomfortable to watch, and it was clear that the staff were visibly upset. No one deserves to be treated that way, especially in a work environment.

The atmosphere was tense, and it severely affected the service and overall experience. It's clear that there's a lack of respect and proper management here, which is disappointing to see. I won’t be returning, and I can’t recommend this place to anyone who values respect and professionalism.
Let me tell you….
Breakfast it’s my favourite meal of the day, I would eat eggs, gluten free bread, bacon and tomato relish all day long…: we started badly from reading the menu, it’s quite difficult to understand when you read “lightly gluten” seriously you either cater gluten free bread or not, if one owns a cafe at a large shopping centre the least you can do it’s provide gluten free alternatives for coeliacs. Honestly this was the most boring, tasteless breakfast I’ve ever had, miniature toasted slices of bread, my poached eggs were almost hard, bacon was too crispy and the tomato relish was the worst if you cannot make a decent relish it becomes a tomato sauce. I also ordered black tea, since there was no sugar available on the table I asked one of the waitress’s not knowing she the sugar police, she gave me one little sachet of sugar and when I requested more she returned with one more, as I have a big pot of tea I had to get up and bring sugar by myself. Honestly for the price and the poor service I would never eat here again.

Ms Kula is the top Barista that I found in Melbourne. Laurent is a good cafe to have a nice coffee time and tea time. The outdoor dining area is more comfy as the indoor is too warm. Food is delicious and full of French taste. The pastries are so good especially my mom like the lemon tart. We just visited Melbourne for 4 days however we visited the Doncaster Laurent shop TWICE!! I prefer the Doncaster shop rather than the one in Chadston. I found that Doncastwr shop is super busy and full of customers. The flow of customers is much more than the David Jones.. unbelievable !!!

An absolute hidden gem. Coffee was amazing.
My Family and I frequent this Cafe quite a lot, my wife also goes on weekdays and we all go as a family on weekends. Only have good things to say about this Cafe, as a lover of Malaysian cuisine, I have everything I need at this Cafe and all the beautiful snacks too. Great different versions of Nasi Lemak, Curry Puffs are excellent and they have a few different types. Kids love the Kaya butter toast!
and also some other delicious classic noodle and rice dishes to choose from.
Teh tarik and fresh juice available also.
Highly recommended if you want a break from your shopping and a nice place to sit and eat away from the hustle and bustle of the shopping centre as this cafe is within a small supermarket. Friendly and attentive staff also who are great to chat with. 👍👍👍
This great cafe is a little hidden away in a big mall. I stubbled upon it… What a find.
Had a delicious breakfast. Felt like I was an invited guest in their home with home cook food. A hidden gem!! Thank you for having me.

This place really just made my night, after having a shocking day yesterday which ended with a terrible experience at a ridiculously priced restaurant I went to the night before that left me in a horribly sour mood, I came to Laurent as a last min decision as I was about to leave Westfield, it was late and I needed to grab a quick dinner on my way home from work, I didn't want junk food and I remembered tasting a lemon tart type cake from here once someone had brought into work which was absolutely delicious.
Tonight I ordered a nice mocha and pulled pork roll, the pulled pork itself could have been a bit more flavourful but mixed with the rest of the ingredients and the absolutely freaking amazing baguette, I was very very happy, never had a better baguette the bread was just baked and toasted perfectly soft and crunchy at the same time.
I sat till closing drank my coffee and relaxed in the comfy chair it was really really nice. Thank you to your staff and your food for resetting whatever bad mojo that had cursed me yesterday. I was going to grab a small cake on my way out but figured I will definitely be coming back again so I'll grab one then. Have already msged my friends about your food =)

I recently visited Shingle Inn Doncaster and had an absolutely wonderful experience! The ambiance is cozy and inviting, making it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy a break. The staff were friendly, attentive, and went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect.
The highlight for me was definitely the coffee—rich, smooth, and delicious. Every sip was a delight. Their menu offers a great variety, and everything I tried was delicious and beautifully presented.
I am very grateful for such a great cafe in the area. I highly recommend Shingle Inn Doncaster to anyone looking for a place with excellent service, fantastic food, and exceptional coffee. I’ll definitely be returning soon.
I walked in here looking to cram some food in in a hurry. I asked for the goodness bowl and a cappuccino because frankly I didn't have time to read the menu and I was pleasantly surprised.

The bowl was two poached eggs with a spinach based salad. Eggs were just runny enough for my tastes and the salad was fresh.

Most importantly I got my food in like 5 minutes which is mighty impressive these days. I noticed the place was well staffed and the they weren't overwhelmed and they treated customers nicely.

I'm gonna be coming here every time I pass through.

Went here and ordered the smashed avocado, as on the QR code menu it showed a very nice looking smashed avocado on toast, however my expectations were not met whatsoever. As you can see in the photos the presentation of the meal was lackluster. The bread was not toasted and the entire meal lacked substance. When I complained they stated that was the standard portion which took me by surprise while showing how the meal was supposed to look on the menu. The price for this piece of bread and scraped avocado at 16.90 is ridiculous and pathetic. Do not go here.

There are so many amazing options.
We had a Christine, which is their most popular cake,I loved it.
Also tried the almond croissant, which was nice but I had better croissants.
Coffee was ok, definitely a place to have a coffee and cake if you’re in Doncaster Westfield.
One of the best Matcha latte from art and test in Doncaster shopping centre.
I Will definitely recommend this cafe to all Japanese who love Matcha latte like me.
Thanks wonderful Barista for making my day ;)
Very nice decor, large selection of baked and savory items.

Still one of the best matcha latte's in Melbourne.

I tried their chicken wrap, that was great as well.

Definitely coming back..

Enjoy!

Delicious siew bao & curry puff from the pantry, we also had the nasi Lemak bungkus with fried chicken which the lady heated up for us. We brought home the kuih which were soft & tasty too. Can understand why this place is popular among the locals.

Had a variety of rice dumplings, our favourite is the Nyonya one, then the 鹹肉粽, the last one would be the Cantonese style.

I enjoy Long Black here. I like its rich coffee flavor without being too bitter.

I also recommend the cheesecake that pairs well with coffee.

The outdoor seating area is a plus as I can bring my dog along.

This has to be one of the best cafe experience we ever had in Melbourne.. Food is absolutely delicious, reasonable pricing, but what made me write this review is their customer service.. The lady on the counter came to suggest us what can we get as we were little confused being first time here… I’m extremely picky when it comes to complementing outside food but I truly loved their sandwiches.. We had Avacado and chicken sandwiche and Korean style toastie with vegetarian omelette .. will be coming back 100%

Cafe is hidden away from the busy Doncaster area. Got a pleasant surprise when we entered as the restaurant is very spacious with nice comfortable seating.
Staff is friendly.
Food is tasty too. We ordered the cheeseburger and Thai basil rice.
Menu offers a good mixed of Korean, Hong Kong fusion dishes. Will come back to try other dishes.
Had a tasty midweek lunch here with friends.
Clean, white and natural toned decor...this cafe gets busy so make a booking. Food was delicious and serving size was plentiful - priced a bit above average, but you get quality and taste for your investment.

There was so much wrong with my order. Not only was it cold and poorly presented, they got one of the dishes completely wrong, giving md the regular benedict instead of the B.L.A.T benedict i payed for, and forgot to add the hashbrown I payed extra for. I also found a dark wavy/curly hair in my food between pieces of bacon.

I myself work in a kitchen. It's not that hard to get good quality food out correctly, and it's especially easy to not get hair in customers food.
Very nice Cafe, great seating and service.
Can get quite busy so make sure to book in advance.
Their dishes are all very nice, it's a little pricey but still within reason.
Lots of halal options

I have recently returned to Dark Rye. The current management has lifted this cafe back up. Excellent coffee at a reasonable price. Love their vegan sandwich and tuna wrap especially as i can get half a wrap. Generous servings and fillings. Good service with a smile. Bonus they do not charge a surcharge on cards or a weekend surcharge either.

What a great discovery at Westfield Doncaster. Overall, my experience at Shingle Inn was nothing short of delightful. The quality of the foods and drinks, the inviting atmosphere, and the friendly staff all contributed to a fantastic visit. Whether you're a coffee aficionado or just looking for a cozy place to unwind, Shingle Inn is definitely worth a visit.
Arrived 12:30 on a Saturday so busy time for brunch. Service was friendly professional great, food and portions were great and fast despite being busy.
Some food and drinks were being distributed to wrong tables but I think they recently changed their numbers. They were very polite about that as well.
Will be back ❤️
Had the best breakfast here! So yummy. Visually amazing and extremely tasty. Great atmosphere. The place was buzzing. Very attentive staff. We went back two days later to try another dish. Yum!
Visited this morning with my family. The food was delicious and presented beautifully.
😇💝🎉 The staff were incredibly friendly, helpful, and ensured our experience was enjoyable. We would happily return again. 👍🏼
However, the only issue we noticed was that the menu could be improved for user-friendliness, particularly in identifying vegetarian options.
🙀 The atmosphere is excellent, but there was noticeable loud chatter, which may be due to the space.

This place has an inconspicuous entrance. However, once you enter through the dark glass door, it opens up into a spacious and comfortable cafe. The service is prompt and friendly. Where it falls short is the food. While the menu reads interesting and the food presentation looks promising, the actual taste is less exciting. We ordered the drink iced strawberry latte and balance was off. The bitter edge of the coffee was in direct collision with the fresh tart taste of the strawberry. The Thai Basil Chicken rice bowl was alright. The Kimchi fried rice had many elements to it but the rice was bland and there was no roast pork as indicated in the menu and was replaced by half a slice of bacon. The fried lotus root slices were limp and unpleasant to eat.

Apart from my croissant served direct from the cabinet, it’s quite nice. I thought I could’ve been asked if I like my food heated. It’s a better option to have your coffee in a middle of a busy food court.
Nice cafe and dog friendly! They have outside seating for your furry family member. I had their Taco which are 3 deep fried pieces of chicken on a bed of apple etc slaw and various interesting sauces on a soft tortilla. I love fried chicken. The slaw gave it a sweet taste with the lemon wedge for the sour side kick, and a couple of chilli slices for the “heat”. Ticked all my boxes of sweet, sour, salty and spicy. My friend had the famous Egg Benedict with Smoked Salmon made smokier under a glass cloche with enclosed smoke, remember to smell the smoke when you lift the glass cloche. For me I feel the best part was the potato croquette! Heavenly! The Iced coffee was also very nice, for a nice warm day. The serving sizes are quite large. This rates a “Must Come” for me. I have to try everything else on the menu.

Very nice atmosphere and food. Has outdoor seats and easy parking. Staff are friendly and efficient. A very good place for coffee and food, relaxing…
Coffee was nice, good service. But food was decent. The salad looked amazing visually but thought it lacked flavour and didn’t have a dressing so tasted quite dry. The croquet monsieur (ham cheese sandwich) was just normal. The apple salad could have more tangy sweet/sour dressing, and ham lacked flavour and too much cheese made the bread too soggy.

Maybe we chose the wrong dishes. Happy to go again and try other dishes though. Their selection of cakes and pastries look good.

It's not too bad, but not great. For starters, I noticed today that this place has gone cashless, and this is not a good thing as cash is still a legal form of currency and payment. The coffee is average. However, the food was not too bad. Tables and cutleries were kind of clean but could be better. Customer service is average. Have had better service from others who serve the same. All in all, May not possibly return as nothing outstanding.

Highly recommend their vanilla slice. The coffee was decent as well.
However, not a cozy ambiance if you are looking for one.
Such horrible carrot cake. The cake was so dry and the icing on it was so sweet that it spoiled my mood for an afternoon tea.
The latte was good but mood was affected by the carrot cake!

Such a good experience here! Stunning interior!

I had the feed bowl (sushi bowl) and it was delicious! Super fast and lovely service and fair prices. My friend and I sat and chatted for a bout an hour and the staff didn’t try to rush us out.

Would definitely recommend checking this place out! I’ll be back for sure :)
Their coffee is good, but the sizes isn’t the best. As the difference between small and large is slightly small (if any).

The atmosphere wasn’t nice. It was a bit dark and difficult to access.

The coffee here is 10/10. After growing up in Melbourne and having lived the last few years interstate (namely Canberra & Sydney), I can sincerely say the coffee here is so well made. Nutty with an excellent balance of sweet, bitter, salty and sour. Haven’t tried the food recently, but the coffee is a must have if you’re a local looking for a regular spot.
Attended my friend’s daughter’s 18 birthday party here. Decent food, beautiful environment and the staffs are friendly. We will definitely come back for brunch.

If I could give this place a 10 stars out of 10 stars I would. Five stars is not enough to describe this restaurant, not only is the food top tier, portion great, awesome service that makes you feel at home, the price is also extremely fair

Now to describe the dish in details:
1) Matcha Latte
This restaurant definitely uses REAL matcha. Not some fake pre made matcha powder, this place uses matcha that tastes authentic and can make sugar level according to your personal preferences. No sugar tastes great but would recommend 1/2 sugar

2) Kimchi Fried Rice
This dish is so interesting. As shown on the photo, this dish is PACKED. Not like your typical kimchi fried rice, this has DEPTHS OF FLAVOUR and a variety of textures. The lotus chips are great, the fried cauliflower and broccoli tastes *CHEFS KISS*, there’s also sliced ham / peas / edamame mixed with the rice. The rice wasn’t greasy at all and could be really enjoyed

3) Tamagoyaki
Crazy presentation, tasted like nothing I’ve had before and I cannot really describe it. The wood ears under the egg seems to be cooked with gravy with has a drastic contrast when you eat it, it’s kind of crunchy and complements the soft egg nicely. Taste it for yourself

4) Toasties
Unlike other Toasties that I have eaten at other places, this thing does NOT fall apart when I eat it so I can really enjoy it. It’s not too greasy, but definitely very filling. The sauce is great, kinda like tomato with something I cannot really tell, but I really really enjoyed it and it was only 12 dollars!!!!

Was crazy busy on a Sunday afternoon around 2pm. Amazing selection of pastries and cakes on offer, I went with the pretty berry Danish and mocha. The berry Danish although was flavourful, the pastry itself was starting to get soggy and had no crunch to it. The mocha was pretty flat, watery and lacked any punch.

Very reasonably priced with generous serves of smoked salmon and bacon. Support this local spot instead of going to the big shopping mall across the road!

Good coffee, good service.
The cafe has good indoor and outdoor seating.

I also enjoyed their ham and cheese croissant, it was fresh, soft and just a nice size.

I cant wait to try other menu items.

Enjoy!

What a hidden gem.
The full cream latte one of the best I had been made by Laura.
In a quiet corner plenty of car parks.
Great healthy menu and spacious outdoor too
Friends as far as Mount Waverley remember this cafe and often suggest this cafe again

I left my wallet behind once , returned 3 hours later to see it in safe hands. They kept it for me.
Personal wise the best in Melbourne for me

Coffee is usually good in here.
They have very intriguing cakes, that I wish I could one day try them.
Wish they could put calories info for each cake.

Coffee was good but there is a TERRIBLE HYGIENE issue.

When we were having coffee there, a Asian lady was using a cotton tip and her finger to clean up her ear. It was disgusting to see in a kitchen area. She continued to work without washing her hand after all. So you might possibly using a plate with her earwax.

My friend had diarrhea after she had a Croissant there. She didn’t have lunch or anything else that day. She pretty sure it was caused by that croissant. Not sure what was wrong with that. Never go back again.

always a positive experience, staff are lovely. Coffee is always on point.

2024 update: unfortunately I want to update this review. Coffee has become way overpriced opposed to others around the area. Coffee has risen yes, but this is even higher than average and probably not worth your time anymore. That aside, if you do decide to go here, staff are still lovely.

Coffee is definitely top tier. Customer service skills commendable . You can't see her smiling (due to the mask) but you can feel it and you definitely leave with one. Glad I ran into this one ✌🙏🙏

Have been having their toasted sandwich and coffee for a couple of months. Great and consistently good. Changed over to Tea and toasting. The boys and girls are stars in customer service. You ask for something and they deliver. Well done team.

Had a takeaway wrap and a coffee and was good. Will I go back to this shop? I would really consider again.
I observed a couple of the staffs (the entire time I was there, not just a split moment) who were preparing food and making coffees did not wear their masks properly, i.e having the mask covering the chin (only) and the other exposing the nose. I mentioned to one of the staff, who served me and had a proper mask on that its not right that the other 2 not putting a mask on properly while still making/serving food. Unfortunately she just nodded and continues with what she was doing, while working/standing closely to 1 of the staff that was not wearing the mask properly. Its disappointing, and during these times, you expect people to act more responsibly, as it won't be devastating if biz have to shut for lovkdowns etc again or we are unknowingly transmitting covid.

A pleasant surprise to get such nice food just next to the library. I have tried the chicken, unagi and salmon sandos in three different days. All tasted great. The quality is very consistent. Will definitely come back again.

If you're craving for some Malaysian delicacies and food this little gem is worth the visit. Tucked inside Colonial Market itself, you can take away or dine in. However, there are limited seating area.

There are various types of nasi lemak bungkus.Had the ones with prawns and another with petai. Both have the right spice level. The rice can be improved as it is lacking the fragrance of coconut.

The curry puff pastry is good. Decent ingredients amount used for the price of $3.20 for the normal ones and $3.50 for eggs. Teh tarik is not diluted and right amount of sweetness.

AngKu and Char Siew Pao is equally good. AngKu is thr best so far in Melbourne!

All in all a decent experience with friendly staff. Will recommend.

Great atmosphere, friendly staff. Coffee is good and their Korean menu is delicious. The spicy pork & rice, chicken katsu curry, mama dumplings ... all very yum and makes for an enjoyable day at the library.

Some of the best coffee I've ever had and prices to match. Great selection of toasties and sandwiches as well as wraps and turkish pide for lunch. Chicken schnitzel pide with mayo is a must have!

And the coffee shop next door (COFFEE HIT) playing loud head banging music.
