This coffee tastes like sugar water and I ordered an iced coffee… also their music sounded like a Garage Band sample and the atmosphere is like a brainwashed jimmy johns

Emissary on P st a nice place to have lunch if you're in the area - nice patio and lovely brick walls. And the food is fresh. I have not tasted their coffee yet, but it looks like a really nice place to spend lunch.

It was my first time here and the experience was superb. Julio was super attentive to every need. The coffee was delicious and the coffee cream was WARM, simply perfect. I had the “Desayuno Cafetero” which come with a delicious Colombian arepa.🇨🇴Will definitely return.

Cafe Phillips was my backup since Ministry doesn’t open until 8am. Cafe Phillips saw a steady stream of office workers ordering their breakfast sandwiches, but I went in for a chai latte. Sadly, it was very watered down and not good at all. It also cost over $7.

We had the best time at Emissary!!! Fantastic food and great service!! Julio was so kind and gave the best recommendations. Amazing special of the day - pumpkin gnocchi. Great atmosphere and great service. Good happy hour deals. Highly recommend!!

A neighborhood gem! Emissary is one of those rare spots that you can come by for brunch/lunch/dinner or for coffee/pastry/dessert. Everything I’ve tried on the menu is excellent and thoughtfully prepared. I love coming here to get work done, or to grab a quick bite after the gym, or drinks with a few friends at their speakeasy bar. The prices are very reasonable and the staff are always so accommodating even when very busy.

Ooh!!! You gotta try their homemade bread. It’s AMAZING!

Chai was good. Great amount of seating. I imagine the café would be amazingly cool during the summer since it has a lot of stone and being slightly underground.
The best coffee experience I have had in DC. The only recommendation I would give would be to offer a sugar free sweetener like Splenda or similar that doesn’t have an aftertaste. I understand why these places only offer Stevia, but what it means is that if I want my coffee sweet I also have to change the flavor of the coffee. And I feel like the coffee here is too good to screw it up with an aftertaste.

Some of the people in these reviews are haters. My girlfriend and I went here and were totally thrilled with the food, prices, and drinks! The service was fantastic as well! 10/10 Veronica especially was very very friendly and helpful with selecting our delicious baked goods!

This place is good but too expensive. I like to get a coffee and food item when I work at a cafe for a couple hrs, but not here. A coffee and pastry will set you back $11. The full meal items are a bit more reasonably priced. I know it’s 14th St but I’d suggest they lower their pastry prices by $1.50 so I could justify the decision of getting a coffee and pastry from there on the daily.

I also know they used to have a cocktail bar setup in the late afternoon and evening. It’d be nice if they brought that back. At the least, it would make having prime real estate on 14th easier to pay for itself.
Always when I am around - usually twice a week - come for great double espresso (TAC coffee). Sometimes I take delicious salads and Egg, Cheese & Bacon. I love this Ethiopian-family owned place!

Nice experience overall here for breakfast. We got lemonade 2/5, way too much ice. We got the Truffle mocha 0/5. It was genuinely not good at all and didn’t taste good at all. It was not good at all we had two sips and threw out the rest down the block. $5 down the drain. Chicken pesto sandwich 4/5. I loved the sandwich but the bread was very hard. We had a blueberry muffin and it was the most moist and delicious muffin I have had in a while 5/5. Overall the vibes are amazing and the service is very fast. It is very clean here and customer service was alright. They weren’t recommending anything or friendly per say. They were just alright. I would recommend coming here for the sandwiches and bakery items only. Which is fine because that’s the name they just happen to have drinks. I would go elsewhere for drinks.

It is near Union Station and it is very priceys. Prices do change, but my two favorites are their breakfast burrito and their lunch special, which is the Philly cheesesteak. The service is like any typical place in Washington D.C.

A convenient place for an okay bacon/egg/cheese but the coffee is so bad I've had to throw it out. The bagels do not stand up well after they cool down and I've also had to throw them away if not eaten immediately. The staff are nice, but food quality needs a lot of improvement.

This place is cheap and down-to-earth! I got the pancakes with syrup, and it was under $6 for three good quality pancakes with plenty of butter and syrup. The food feels homemade and the prices are incredibly good. My family is here visiting DC on vacation and I'd 100% reccomend this place!

The meal was hit and miss. For the price ($32 for my wife and I) I wasn't too happy with the quantity of the bacon I got (3 slices). Although the bacon was amazing. The eggs were slightly better than the Best Western Hotel eggs the day before which weren't great. The fresh grapes were tasty but the cut fruits tasted old. The tea also had no flavor. You need some better black tea. Luckily the very friendly staff lifted me up. Lastly, you need a better setup because having people standing next to my table (staring at me) while I was eating was kind of awkward. Overall a mixed bag here but for convenience it isn't bad.

Ate here twice while visiting DC. My son and wife also loved it. Great ice coffee, nitro style nice and smooth. We all had different breakfast sandwiches. I loved the biscuit, just enough heat! My son has the salmon one day and the avocado another. My wife has the bodega style. All were a great way to start the day. Quick service, helpful staff, good food and coffee! So glad we found it.

Couldn't resist when I walked by since it had outdoor seating on a beautiful evening.

Good Farro & Quinoa salad, but not much farro or quinoa 😅

Perhaps understaffed outside, as I waited 30 minutes for a water refill and my check.

The summer refresher thing is great. I came in just before closing and it was exactly what I needed for a hot evening while sightseeing.
Delicious food! We had bacon egg and cheese croissant and a sausage egg and cheese croissant. They were both freshly made and delicious.
My teen and I ate here at the outside tables each morning when my family visited DC. I recommend the caprese sandwich. It's made to order (not premade as another reviewer claimed) and delicious. The mango smoothie is also top-notch. The staff is nice.

Serviceable sandwich takeout. Friendly and efficient staff. Do not recommend the coffee - much better options in the building and a short walk. Unremarkable somewhat dark atmosphere for sit-down.
My favorite coffee evaaaaaa! Wish I took more pictures. The shop is so neat, down an alley way and love all the murals around the block too. It was busy when we went but the barista was amazing. She was by herself most the time. Taking orders and slanging coffees. And she didn’t look one bit stressed and she was so so nice too. You have to get one of their draft lattes, I got the seasonal strawberry one and it was 10/10.
Also we got the vanilla cappuccino and my bf loved it. I will say the canale we got wasn’t as crispy on the outside as I usually like but the flavor was great. Will always visit when I’m in town. In person is way better than the ones you get at the grocery store. I liked their little cups and plates too.

Great coffee - amazing flavor and aroma.
Ice coffee uses coffee ice cubes. Ordered ham and Swiss - got 6 slices of ham. Ordered turkey sandwich - they slice turkey in front of you to order, and they pile it on. Karla and her team do a fantastic job of providing very friendly, clean and efficient service with a smile.

Unassuming, quiet cafe with good quality breakfast and lunch staples. I ordered a bagel — a risk in DC. It was delicious, perfectly toasted, with the perfect amount of veggie cream cheese. Got a grab and go Cobb salad for lunch which was just right. Prices are on par for DC and it had ample indoor and outdoor seating. It would be a good place for a quiet coffee meeting.

Overall very satisfied and will be back to try the sandwiches and pastries.

They let you order stuff even if they don’t have the ingredients, Presenting Avacado wrap without Avacado. Asked them thrice if this is the correct wrap. They kept saying yes, only in the end they said they were out of avacado.

Love this cafe. Hate the hours.
It feels like it has been a neighborhood staple for a long time. Good coffee and other drink options. Ipuedes the chai latte. While it smells amazing being brewed, it wasn't spicy enough for me. It literally tasted like water to be honest. They should add some more spices like cinnamon and maybe even cayenne to kick it up. Wifi and places to work and meet. Downside is they close so easily at 2p.

I was in DC for some meetings, and all four days, I ate breakfast at this place. I ordered something different every time, with the exception of a chocolate filled croissant, which made the order every time, just to try their wide selection. Everything I had was awesome, filling, and reasonably priced. I would gladly walk a couple of blocks out of may way.

On top of that, staff were friendly on every visit, which is always a plus. Gotta try it once if you're near by, and then I'm sure you'll be back.

Not an actual Starbucks - can’t use your Starbucks app to pay and food prices are outrageous - $10 for a breakfast sandwich that costs $5 at a typical Starbucks.

Clean, airy & bright cafe with warm service, conveniently located near Marriott Courtyard hotel. Very tasty buckwheat raspberry honey scone, decent egg & cheese sandwiches but wished they'd toast the bread & include a bit of greens. Coffee is ok but not our favorite, more of personal taste preference. Recommend people to try & check out the lovely atmosphere. We'll probably return for the scone but get our coffees/breakfast items elsewhere.

This bakery was so reliable. Especially for those that may not be sure what they want for breakfast. We had planned to go to another breakfast place but after we found it surprisingly closed, we found ourselves here!
The line looked long initially but it moves fast. The menu is easy to see and there are plenty of egg, sandwich and drink options to choose from. The prices I thought were lower than expected and the place operated in a sort of "Panera Bread" way where you pay first, choose a table, eat and then leave.
The basic bagel, and other meals were what you would expect, reliable and flavorful. The service was great with them trying to find what we wanted the most from our descriptions.
My favorite gourmet-coffee in the DC area. Genuine service with a smile. Awesome barristas, create awesome coffee. Great atmosphere. Clean.

Be very careful with this place. It’s located in the hotel’s gift shop. They take advantage of the people who live in the hotel, charge everything way more expensive than other stores. I was charged 10.99 plus tax for a super small egg and cheese croissant, which is almost a double price but even smaller size than other Starbucks stores. Felt I was robbed.

My experience at Emissary was below average. I ordered via GrubHub on Saturday evening. It was crowded and busy when I arrived. There were four people working the bar and serving. They seemed flustered and disorganized, but they were pleasant. One of the servers/baristas was so busy that she didn't even acknowledge me. She walked past me several times while I was waiting at the register, and then called to someone in the kitchen to help me. The two gentlemen working at the bar were nice, but were definitely busy and scattered.

I ordered an almond croissant and a golden milk latte. I was only given the golden milk latte at first. I returned to the register to get the croissant. Another server chose a croissant and gave it to me. She gave me a ham and cheese croissant. I noticed it was the wrong croissant after I took a bite. I returned to the register and had to wait for a few minutes before someone actually acknowledged me again. A different gentleman helped me this time, apologized, and gave me a plain croissant free of charge.

Both the croissants were decent. The plain croissant was better than the ham and cheese croissant. The ham and cheese croissant was cold. It would've been better had it been heated. The golden milk latte was good.

It would be tough for me to return to Emissary after this experience. Maybe I'd return on a weekday if I had the time, but I don't know about returning on a Saturday night. The atmosphere and the service were chaotic, and the food and beverage weren't good enough to deal with the chaos.

It’s a hidden coffeeshop, very clean and minimalist vibe. Great for studying and working as they have wifi! I ordered dirty chai with decaf and it came out very watery but the barista was very friendly and nice and remade it for a normal latte. My friend had their matcha latte and it also tasted a little weak and watery. I think the drinks could definitely be improved.

I love this place and I’ve seen now at least 3 different owners—each of which had their strengths. They opened right before the pandemic and squeaked through some how due to perseverance. Two owners later I see more positive changes, a commitment to serving fine coffee and having a community space. The layout is nice, ample seating unless it gets too crowded which isn’t all that often. Acoustically it sustains conversations with no echo, the background music is at a low enough level too
Of course the bathrooms are clean and the free WiFi is decent
I hope to be coming here for many years
Fantastic coffee, super nice baristas, and chill spot to enjoy a coffee and a snack.

This LaColombe is smaller than the one up on 14th and Florida, but it's got a similar vibe and always the best coffee.
La Colombe Coffee Roasters is one of my favorite coffee chains. I enjoy getting coffee to go there as well as drinking it on-site. They usually serve coffee in beautiful, colorful cups, and you can also get a tasty croissant.
The breakfast is very delicious and not too expensive. The muffins are the best in town and they have espresso caffè which is good. You have to stop here because it is one of the best places we ate in Washington!

Tried their sweet potato biscuit and thoughtful mocha! The biscuit was really good, and had a nice texture.
The mocha was interesting in that it had miso in it. It definitely adds a savory twist to the drink but I think if you drink it with espresso, the espresso flavor overpowers the miso. If you want more miso flavor, getting the hot chocolate might be better.
Their uniqueness I would say would be the number of menu items with sweet potato. If you love sweet potato, this is your heaven.
Also has a lot of seating. Lots of small individual tables. Free wifi and great place to chill and do some work or catch up with a friend!
This place has one of the best coffees that we've had in DC. The draft coffee is amazingly smooth and creamy. The coffee is fragrant and thoroughly enjoyable, although I usually prefer my coffees to be stronger and bolder in taste. It's not the easiest to find the place considering you have to pass a smaller alleyway to the back to see it. Would definitely be back for another cup before I leave this place.

Plenty of art on the walls outside the cafe - a bonus.

I love Simona in Arlington so was excited to get another chance to have it, this time in noma! I came early Wednesday morning about 30 minutes after they opened. It was pretty quiet so I decided to eat there. I got an iced coffee with milk and a chocolate croissant. The employees were so friendly and welcoming, and I love when cafes have actual plates and mugs for customers that eat there. My iced coffee was great and my chocolate croissant was delicious! So warm and soft. I like that each table has a little flower pot which has the Wi-Fi password listed. It makes it convenient to not get up to find the password at the counter or asking someone. Their fall specialty drinks looked good too, especially the brown sugar pumpkin. I hope to come back and try it before it’s gone!

This was a nice neighborhood restaurant that serves breakfast as well as lunch. I was able to customize my order for breakfast and it was made right in front of me. The food was hot and good. I ordered the farmer's breakfast bowl with scrambled eggs, potatoes and turkey. I was not expecting to have turkey lunch meat as my meat, but it was different and freshly cut while I ordered my food. The orange juice was really good! It wasn't too sweet and was natural. I would recommend this small quaint restaurant.

Got the Cali Club and a chocolate chip cookie for a quick lunch today. The sandwich was made perfectly fresh and was DELICIOUS! The cookie was moist and chewy- yum! It was rather confusing trying to figure out where you turn in your slips and pay because there are no signs. Definitely will be back and hopefully they make the process a bit easier.

Great selection of quick breakfasts. Grab and go breakfast sandwiches, plates, and yogurt parfaits. Hot and cold brew coffee and tea, espresso, Lattes, macchiato, and cappuccinos. The Wild Berry iced tea and blueberry topped French toast can't be beat.
The staff and food at this blue stone lane was amazing. Brought my 2 kids for coffee for me and lunch for them and Niah and Chris went above and beyond. They made the avocado toast without red pepper for them. The kids ate yogurt cups with fruit and the iced vanilla latte was so good. Niah and Chris were so nice, making my kids laugh and we will definitely come back!!
This is a bit lower standard than other similar looking cafes in the area. Sandwich was premade and 90-95% bread, and coffee is about what I'd expect from a 7-11. Then they have 15%+ tip screen, which is rare at this style of cafe. On the plus side, fast service and no line. Unless you're really in a rush there's multiple better places for lunch a short walk away.
The food was totally tasteless. The coffee was bitter. Only thing I barely enjoyed was the bottled juice. Please don’t come here.
PS: got bitten by mosquitoes multiple times (Yes! Inside the restaurant).

Had a Rueben on Rye here for lunch, and it's was pretty good and hot. They're a little pricey, but they do good business in the area. Inside and outside seating. Staff was nice, smiling, and helpful. They have a nice coffee selection, also. May try them again if working in the area.
Hidden on Blagden Alley NW in DC, but it is easy walk to get to if staying in the area. This is locate down a neighborhood alley and not easily spotted, but worth the hunt. You will know you are in the right area as it has plenty of artmurals around. You will also find the DC Alley Museum in the same area.
Very welcoming place as it has an open design like you would find in a neighborhood like this. I got a ham and cheese croissant with my cappuccino.
If you want to get a quiet coffee and breakfast away from the DC chaos, drop over here for a spell.

I know, I know...it is a Stsrbucjs inside a hotel so not a real location. I wanted a trenta black tea lemonade with Stevia. Venti was the largest size. No Stevia. And no black tea, they had to brew it. And they don't take the Starbucks app for payment. And when I got the drink I didn't really order it tasted like fish water.

2 for the staff that had to put up with customers expectations that they simply can't meet. I feel sorry for them.
Great little coffee shop on M Street In DC. Excellent service. Friendly staff. They have a small but nice selection of breakfast food and pastries; smoothies and coffee drinks. My friend had the Peanut Butter and Blueberry protein shake which he said was really good. I had the Peanut Butter and Banana toast and an Americano. Let me tell you that was a memorable slice of toast! Made my morning! Perfectly toasted whole grain bread, sliced banana on a generous layer of peanut butter. Sprinkled with cinnamon and drizzled with honey. So few places understand that delectable combination of flavors but it is one of my all time favorites. Plus the Americano I ordered was luscious. Thank you Chris and staff for making my morning!!
Firstly, the atmosphere of Bluestone Lane is warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a cup of coffee. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable, and their attention to detail is evident in the quality of their drinks.

Now, onto the peppermint mocha. It is truly a masterpiece. The rich, velvety texture of the espresso is perfectly complemented by the cool, refreshing taste of the peppermint. The balance between the two flavors is spot-on, and it's clear that the baristas take great care in crafting each and every drink.

What sets Bluestone Lane apart is their use of high-quality, organic ingredients. You can taste the difference in the coffee, and the peppermint mocha is no exception. It's a treat for your taste buds, and you can feel good about indulging in something that's made with care and attention to detail.

Overall, I can't recommend Bluestone Lane coffee in Navy Yard enough. Their peppermint mocha is simply divine, and the overall experience is top-notch. It's the perfect place to grab a drink and catch up with friends or spend some quiet time alone. Five stars all around!
Hope you find this cute little (coffee) spot. It's right across the street from WeWorks and it's a small space, but absolutely perfect to chill and hang. I came to do some work, but they sell coffee in addition to breakfast, oatmeal, sandwiches, etc. You can sit at a table just for you and 1 friend or at the bar height table at the window and people watch! Zen music and super kind staff.
I had a hard time seeing the place as it blends in on the street. I have added pics and video to help you locate it.
Service was needing a little 😃. The coffee was quite good and the atmosphere worked well for my business meeting.
I go to a lot of coffee shops to meet with potential home buyers and this one compares well. I prefer independent and small chains to some of the national ones.
I did not sample any of the breakfast items that smelled so good. So perhaps next time. I will be back for sure.

Found this spot via google maps and was near the hotel during my stay in DC.
A very spacious and beautiful place! I loved the decor and style.
The person serving me was very welcoming and helpful, they eventually made my coffee.
This place is card only and no cash.
I opted for a cookie which was amazing and I appreciated the coffee cup! Very nice.
I only deducted a star as my coffee was lukewarm otherwise a 5* establishment.

Highly advise going 2 blocks in any direction to a different coffee spot. I know what I'm expecting when I grab a Starbucks, but the staff here are very incompetent. Just asked for a grande latte with less milk, and the cashier couldn't fathom the request. Ended up charging me for a tall latte and adding an extra chot charge, making it a $7 latte that should have cost $4.80. When I asked why my charge wasn't the same as the listed price, he just unapologetically printed me a receipt. Never coming back to this location - there's another Starbucks down the street that is much more friendly and skilled.

Nice and original coffee shop, lounge atmosphere minus the lounge sofas unfortunately, but relaxing lofi music 🎶
Food is tasty, flies 🪰on pastries slightly less though…so maybe a closed display would be better…
I do back up previous comment mentioning the lack of cleanliness of tables…

Lastly unexpected but quiet and not too busy location 📍

I had a mocha☕️, chocolate dip and apple pastrie 🥐! Overall I enjoyed the place !

(Without ‘naming’ , make sure your waitresses actually greet clients, it’s the minimum in customer facing positions even more in a coffee shop : first one that took my order almost sounded rude, thankfully second waitress later saved the day !)
Beet latte is tasty! Tried the juice and it’s good but not that fresh since it’s bottled with an expiration date two months from now.

Best café! Cheap and great breakfast and necessities like toothpaste, juices, chocolates, pre-made sandwiches, etc. I came almost every morning during my stay at the Melrose and ordered usually the same sandwiches (bacon, egg and cheese on a bagel -plain unless they run out then everything bagel). I also tried the sausage/egg/cheese which was also good! It was definitely filling for a few hours for both me and my brother. They also had them nicely wrapped in foil and put in a paper bag to carry. Very sweet people and would totally come again! I joined their points system as well ☺️😊
Good breakfast bagels and croissants. Coffee and cappuccino were good too. Freshly made smoothie was lovely.

Visiting from out of town it seems like the majority of this place is business might be takeout. Once I explained I wanted to dine in the staff were wonderful and helpful. exceptional espresso program. Truly incredibly gifted craftsman. When I visit from NYC I without fail come to visit this cafe and I always get a flat white and enjoy the oudoor seating they have and read my Bible and just unwind. It’s the greatest cafe with a really stunning food selection too! I love their avocado toast, it goes well with their habenero spicy jam!
The thing that makes this coffee shop a bit better than the rest is the drink selection. There are a lot of options for hot and cold drinks. As a none coffee drinker I appreciate the amount of tea options this coffee shop offers. The food was also pretty good. They really pack on the avocado and salmon. Though it's expensive you definitely don't get shorted. The service was also great and I was a fan of the self ordering system using the kiosk. I'll definitely be back soon to try the beet latte.

I found out about sweet science coffee in the daily coffee news. I realized I had to go and I walked over 40 minutes to get there and back. I would have walked much, much further. I have been to many coffee shops in many cities in the United States and most have pastries. This coffee shop pastries are beyond outstanding. So much so that I left with two bags of the pastries. Even if you are not a coffee drinker it's worth going simply for the pastries. They have two talented pastry chefs on-site and that makes all the difference. It is also my understanding that in the afternoon there is a different pastry offering which I have not yet had the pleasure of trying. When it comes to the coffee this is a very unique shop in that they have your typical espresso drinks but with very great coffees. In the multiple brewing area, which opens at 10:00 a.m. daily, those really interested exploring the limitless bounds of coffee flavors will be delighted with all the options. Hopefully, the photos will give you a good idea of the ever-changing coffee options and the available brewing methods. One of the very unique aspects of this coffee shop is that they determine which brew method is the best for a specific coffee and yes you should leave it to the professionals. I see this more and more at the better coffee shops where they will use the brew method that best suits the coffees flavor profile. You will have the opportunity to taste coffee flavors that you would never think are possible. Enjoy.
New to the area... Needed coffee desperately and when it popped up on my map, right after the metro exit, was life saver. Cozy nice place. I love colors of the decor(not biased at all, aquamarine is the best ever😂) nice staff and food looks great. I didn't risk not bringing food with me today, since i wasn't sure I'd find place with good stuff but tomorrow will definitely grab that smoked salmon on the toast... Yummy. Bit upset because the word medium deceived me.. Ordered medium and looks bit smaller, in difference with the price of it...but coffee tastes really good. Nice atmosphere... Will get extra large tomorrow to accommodate my idea of "medium size coffee" 😂

The only only reason why I can't give 0 stars is because this rating system won't allow me. The cooks usually have scowls on their faces when they're preparing your food. I specifically told the cook that I ONLY wanted scrambled eggs, but I had to fill out their form. There was no place on the form to just order scrambled eggs, so I filled it out as thoroughly as I could, but put in the notes section, "Just Scrambled eggs" (see attached photo). They charged me $9 for scrambled eggs - it wasn't even an omelet! (see attached receipt) The eggs were slightly burnt, too. Poor customer service and poor management. Of course, they'll respond with something like "we explained that to you" or "we gave you extra scrambled eggs" or some other lame excuse. What they didn't explain was why they never charged me $9 before when I came in to get scrambled eggs (I think it was around $4 or $5). Magically, the price doubled for no reason.

WILL NEVER COME HERE AGAIN!!!!!!!!
We just followed the crowed and it led us to this coffee place. It wasn’t disappointing at all! Very good coffee and bakeries. It resides in Blagden Valley which was interesting itself. It was an old shabby part of town now is under going transforming to a better place. The colorful murals lighten up the valley. Parking was easy ( from what I observed) just park on the brick road.

Really tasty breakfast! I had a ham and egg sandwich, which was fresh and really tasty. All the ingredients were fresh and the flavours went really well together.
Blueberry scone was delicious too and was the best scone we had so far as it was soft inside and had a crispy outer layer. Nice chilled out atmosphere.
Service was friendly and we got served quite quickly. I would highly recommend it.

Relatively quick service and able to handle a large amount of customers with precision. Very friendly and polite barista, but cashier was rude and impatient. He threw food around and never apologized for getting my order wrong.
