Nice quiet cafe with a super cozy area in the back where you can sit in a communal area and read a book or relax. The food and drinks here are also awesome. I had the turkey panini and the Okinawa tea latte and I couldn't recommend them more. Very filling and tasty!

This is a cafe with comfortable dining vibe. It’s quiet with cozy music. People here are mostly using laptops and reading, instead of chatting. Coffee is definitely fresh and delicious. I especially like their almond croissant. It’s not too sweet but with strong almond flavor, which is very yummy.

Ordered a decaf Americano and Honey Lavender Latte to go. The latte art was cute and it had a noticeable lavender flavour. Service was friendly and it's a nice, clean shop. If I had one issue, we wish the latte had filled the cup to the brim a bit more (photo taken right after we received the drink and removed the lid). I know with the froth it can be tricky, though. The Americano was as advertised. They have a good selection of baked goods and sandwiches, and when we were in, there were regulars coming to take out food. Would recommend if in the area!

Hats down the most amazing tiramisu I have ever had outside of Europe. Service, atmosphere, cleanliness, friendliness of the staff and generally everything about this place is top notch. Thank you so much for being one of my places to go to every time I come downtown now ❤️
I highly recommend visiting, you'll never regret that you stopped by!
Small coffee shop along Broadway, specializing in coffee than food. I ordered their latte, which was pretty good, on a more mild side than a strong coffee taste. Their pastry with tomato & basil was really simple but tasty.

There are only a few small tables, so I would only recommend this place for maximum of 4 people, and its not really a quiet place with car noise on a busy street right in front.

One of my favorite spots.
The staff is always friendly, the place is cozy, warm and the food delicious.
The iced latte is my favorite always with a panini
Super high quality coffee from very professional barrista. Good selection of different beans for every taste!
I’m a real newbie at the Paper Crane.. but it doesn’t matter if it’s a gig, a guitar, an event, a shop .. I go by ALL gut. I was at the good will store next door and found some pretty decent items .. a Calvin Klein dress shirt, pair of boots, a leather clutch for my gf (Diesel) and each item $5!?!? Back to the Paper Crane.. I told you about my little shopping stint because when I get in a roll like that it becomes rolling thunder, no pouring rain and comin’ on like a hurricane as I discovered the PC on my way to Starbucks.
Turns out.. I didn’t need to go .. what a surprise and relief! I am SOOOoo fussy about the way my London Fogge is made I thought there’s just no way.. WAY! Way! The day I was there the 2 girls behind the counter were very hospitable, kind and put a lot ( I watched ) into making me their version of their London Fogge it was awesome .. I also had the best iced tea I’ve had in 2 years

I had to go to the washroom, and I asked if I can use the washroom, and I would give them my credit card.
The staff insisted that I order and pay for drink first.
I tried to order a tea latte, and I asked if I can have more milk, the staff wants to charge me more for it. Even though latte drinks were supposed to be all latte.
I wanted a regular latte, but they have mixed oat and regular milk in my drink.
Terrible service, and I wouldnot go again..

great coffee! amazing service (if you want to work here consider bringing your laptop charged) the coffee is great!!!! i had and almond crossaint and it was ok! I came 3 days in a row for coffee (tried the vanilla rosemary latte and the cardamom late) both are delicious!!!!!! 🫶🏻
I love this place so much! The coffee the vibes and the people are all just so awesome. I always like to get the candied espresso, but the honey orange latte is also really good. They have made in-house waffles with a variety of different flavours to pair nicely with the variety of coffee that they have to offer. I love how all their beans are roasted right in the coffee shop, it's pretty cool to see.

As a coffee enthusiast, I had heard some promising things about this coffee shop, but my experience fell far short of my expectations.

The latte was subpar. The coffee itself was sour and just by looking at the foam, it was not properly frothed. The macrofoam indicates a frothy and airy appearance and lacks the smooth and velvety texture of what a latte should be!

The waffle was also a letdown. Overall, this place falls far short of the mark.

When you first walk in, it has a cool environment that's a bit dark and has relaxing vibe. They offer different types of beans. They also have a sesonal drink menu, as fall is quickly around the corner. I got a Spiced Latte and would not recommend it, as it did not have any memorable factor or wow to me. There are limited street parking in front and the location acts like a hidden coffee shop.

Such wonderful service and both the croffle and the panini were delicious!! The owner is a kind, hard-working man. This is the kind of small business to support! Perfect place for a quick bite/drink or to stay to get some work done. Located on the second floor of the mall.

No open Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi is available but you have to give up too much of your private information to get access. Starbucks is across the street so stop here for their wonderful delicious glorious scone but then go to Starbucks for your Wi-Fi.

I had a fantastic experience at this cafe! The customer service here sets a high standard for all others. The staff was fast, competent, and incredibly friendly.

Their coffee selection is impressive, and I tried the floral blend, which was absolutely perfect. The unique presentation of coffee in a small pot with a small cup adds a delightful touch.

I ordered the Mortadella Supreme, and the croissant was divine - crunchy, golden, and fresh. There are also tempting pastries that I'm eager to try on my next visit.

The ambiance of the cafe is incredibly relaxing, creating a pleasant atmosphere.

The only drawback was the absence of Wi-Fi, which was a bit surprising considering the inviting environment. Nonetheless, the exceptional customer service more than made up for it. I'm leaning towards giving them a 5-star review despite the Wi-Fi issue.

My Americano ☕️ cup wasn’t filled up and when I asked them to fill the cup up to the top they didn’t care to do that.. Bad service, coffee wasn’t very good. I won’t be back here, I don’t recommend this coffee house. Lots of other places to choose from on Main.
Love the coffee here and will return. In particularly the Hawaiian Latte. The pastries are sub par and "Costco like" in quality. Service is efficient but never a smile, rarely eye contact and often a snarly 'I don't want to be here' attitude.

We came in for a coffee after taking the ferry from Nanaimo. They have different espresso varieties you can choose from. The Mexican in house cold brew was excellent. Please bring your own mug, you get 25¢ off.
There was a bit of a lineup but the girl who was behind the espresso machine came out and asked what I wanted then went back right away to make my drink. That was very clever, as the front guy was busy getting food for the previous orders. Super efficient system and very kind and welcoming staff.
Great latte too! Thanks :-)

i felt so welcomed and cozy while spending my time here!! All the food and drinks are made in thought of presentation and quality. Highly recommend the chicken panini and dalgona latte :))
The range of drinks offered is great, the staffs are also very professional, the food range is ofcourse limited but this is a cafe not a full restaurant. Overall is good for coffee and cakes

The barista who served me was unwelcoming and hostile. Very snobby attitude. Prices were fair. I noticed many fruit flies in seating areas outside and to a lesser extent indoors. The outdoor seating area in particular is practically unusable because of this issue. The coffee was marginally better than a chain cafe, but at least at a place like JJ bean the staff isn’t unnecessarily condescending and rude to me. Wouldn’t go back.

This cafe has what I call the holy trinity:
1. Beautiful cafe space, 2. Excellent coffee, 3. Fantastic food.
This was probably my favourite cafe in downtown Vancouver.
Located on a corner opposite a small park, the cafe is very light and bright, stylish and welcoming.
The coffee was exceptional - it looked and tasted absolutely perfect.
The food offering is so good too - lots of choice, both sweet and savoury.
I would definitely recommend trying this cafe!

I haven't been here that often, but every time I do go, the coffee is just amazing. I don't know what they do, but it's just always so good. That's the highest compliment I can give a coffee shop. So, there you go.
One of our favourite spots in the neighbourhood. Nothing pretentious, just delicious coffee and pastries baked in-house.

In a city brimming with coffee shops, Prototype Coffee truly distinguishes itself from the rest. I opted for a simple pour over and grabbed some beans, and was not disappointed. The quality and care put into their brews are evident. A must-visit for coffee aficionados in Vancouver. Just a heads-up for potential visitors: they close at 5 pm, so plan to get there early to fully savor the experience. Highly recommend!
What a cutie cafe! The coffee was great and brunch menu is so good too. Staff are super nice and friendly and the shop has a great vibe overall

Pros: Convenient location beside the Vancouver Art Gallery. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Occasionally there is a cashier who speaks French, so you can almost feel as if you’re in France. Nice seating area inside and on the patio. Cons: Very limited selection of things to eat on a weekday after the lunch rush. Washrooms are sometimes dirty. There is often a long queue to get to the cashier. Pastries are average; one would naturally expect more, given the high prices for food here. The vegetarian quiche is shockingly bland for something that costs around $14.

It is a bit of hole in the wall, but kept well. But I am not here for the furnishings! Barista uses a machine similar to what I used 20 years ago! Old school La Maazocco, old school hand foaming…. Awesome barista!

My sister and I had the pleasure of going to the coffee shop on Sunday August 13th around 4:30 after it was suggested to us by a local. The two gentleman were kind and patient with us crazy Americans. The coffee was delicious and meeting them was a breath of fresh air. We hope to go and have breakfast or luck tomorrow.

Oh my Gosh! Is it fare to pay $7.30 for this moka 8ounce with a huge of foam on the top!!!
When i asked barista that I don’t like this much foam she said it takes a couple of minutes to do another one! Lots of customers are ahead of you!
Customer service is 0/10.
Not many low key quality coffee shops like this left in Vancouver. A hang out of mine when I lived in Strathcona. Definately a place to bring a friend. Nice patio in the back also.

I was greeted and smiles all the way through the interaction of my order and pick up. Thank you guys so much. Saved me from being hangry (hungry & angry).
This is an incredible spot! The food is Michelin star quality, service is impeccable and the atmosphere is tasteful. Perfect spot for a hangout, a date or for a few hours of work.

My only complaint is that they don’t have wifi, I really really wish they did :)
The service provided by the staff was outstanding at Nemesis- they were friendly, attentive, and made me feel welcome.

Regarding the coffee, it's a matter of personal preference, as found that the taste didn't align with my palate.
However, I must emphasize that the coffee itself is not necessarily bad; it simply wasn't to my liking.

On the bright side, the pastries I ordered, both savory and sweet, were a real treat! They were delicious and definitely added a positive note to my visit.

While the coffee might not have been to my liking, the excellent service and delightful pastries were notable aspects of my experience at Nemesis Coffee Gastown. If you're looking for a place with great pastries and a friendly atmosphere, this might be worth a visit❤️

New to the neighbourhood so excited to find this place so close. Service first thing in the morning was amazing. Probably was the first person in. Latte was very good. Bit on the pricy side. But all around great.
The only issue was the croissant. Every bite oozed grease/butter. I know how croissants are made. But have never had a croissant that basically squirted grease every bite. Definitely a hard pass on the croissants for next time. I do believe they are a third party supplied. But not for me. However will definitely be back for the coffee and great vibes. The back patio looks brilliant.
Forecast coffee is a cafeteria that I liked because it has a different design from the others, and also has good coffee. The food leaves a bit to be desired and the place is a bit noisy. Is a good place to try it.

Definitely a hidden gem! Extensive drink and food/dessert menu. We got the dalgona and blue ocean lattes -both delicious. Service was super friendly and helpful!
Okay wow! This place was amazing- from the delicious croissant like pastry we had (it had the tastiest raspberry and custard filling) to the perfectly steamed and prepared oat flat white/chai latte!!

Staff were super friendly and the shop is inviting, has great natural light, and had good amount of seating!

The area is a little sketchy, but that can’t really be helped

Great coffee, average price for the neighbourhood however how they differ is they have cocktails and spirits. Also have designated seating for people with laptops vs. laptop tables.
Good place for coffee and bites.

We tried the croissants, latte, mocha and hash. The butter croissant was made really well, very fluffy and multiple layers and crisp on the outside but I wish it was warmed up before serving.

The latte and mocha were good, the hash wasn't to our taste.

Would recommend this place for their croissants, and the French toast brulee sounds like an incredible concept, will be back for this one.

I often go in the morning for breakfast, but I was disappointed to pay almost $7 for the ham and cheese croissant when it had a tiny slice of ham, and no cheese inside, only a little bit on top. I went at 9am and the croissant itself was not fresh, so I’m guessing from yesterday. Not fair business to charge the full price for that and I don’t think I’ll be going back anytime soon.

I went with a couple of friends to both study while having a drink or a snack. The people were very friendly and were also quite fast with our order. Not only is there free wifi for those who needed it while we studied, the somewhat quiet chatter of a cafe was created a very comfortable environment to be in.
The food was also quite appetizing to both look at and eat!

This is by far the best place in Vancouver if you are looking for a local roaster. They have four different type of beans as espresso. The beans change often thus it's worth while to go twice. They draw coffees quite long 40-60s but with low pressure profile 4bar to keep the excellent fruitiness of their beans. A must !!! for any coffee lover.

Cute and cozy cafe on Main Street. I love matcha lattes and was super excited to try the Matcha Strawberry Latte after seeing it on social media and hearing good reviews. The drink is gorgeous with the three colour layers. Not sure if I was supposed to mix the drink before drinking but I left it as it and then mixed it about half way through.

The first sips were delicious and the strawberry puree was really good. However about half way I wasn't loving the drink as much. The matcha flavour is very light compared to other places and the drink ended up just tasting like milk. I subbed for oat milk for $1 extra and my drink was over $8!! Decent drink to try but not worth the price in my opinion.

Definitely one of the best coffee shops in Vancouver! High quality coffee beans with distinctive taste. The staffs are knowledgeable and super friendly. Their waffles are freshly made which I was quite surprised when I got the one that’s still warm!
I left Vancouver 5 years ago. At that time Nemesis was great. I’m confident to say they’ve upped their game and remain at the top end of the Vancouver coffee and pastry scene. Everything we had was top of class. Coming from Europe I was not expecting to be floored by the pastries but they were truly exceptional.

Food was solid. Service is speedy and helpful. Coffee was really cool. A bit stronger brew than European style brewing but great none the less.

High recommendation,

The “Resso” is a good strong coffee served with a bunch of cream on top. I think it’d be an even better offering as an affogato style with a scoop of ice cream though. Still a solid offering - something nice to sip on in the afternoon.

Huge coffee shop with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. They have a pretty big menu with coffee, wines and drinks. I had an iced vanilla latte. It was delicious. We also got 3 different types of cookies-lemon, birthday cake, and lava. All of them were delicious-“lava cake cookie was my favourite-not to sweet.
Really enjoyed my lumberjack wrap along with a flat white in what is just quite simply a lovely cafe setting. Not too flashy, not too modest - just that perfect sweet spot in between.

It offers you the ideal spot to catchup with a friend over a well made espresso or sit down to knockout some emails whilst feasting on one of the sweet tooth appeasing baked goods.

Are you going there for your big Sunday brunch? Nope. To taste some unreal delicious flavour you've never had before? Nope. Instead, it's just damn good coffee (and some!) that'll tempt you into dropping in everytime you go past!

Love the place, great coffee + waffle smell. ☕️🧇 Macchiato with their Brazil Esperanza bean, well balanced. The Oat Flat White n Blue London Fog are great as well. Tried the waffles, delicious.

Update (05/28/23):
Been back a few times over weekends just to pick up some pastries and had great experiences with two different staff and baristas. I am a fan of their vegan muffins and croissants. Their croissants are even better than the chain French bakery on the same block. The last couple times, I even got drinks as well and no orders were messed up or made callously. Changed my rating up to 4 stars. The drinks themselves are a bit on the pricy end but no real complaints if they are made as ordered.

—————-

Drinks and pastries (largely made by a separate bakery I believe) are great. No complaints there. But the service is one of the worst in town. A few times already I have caught one of the baristas in a foul mood where they look as if they would rather do anything else other than offer you service. Twice now they have botched orders, given me the wrong sizes that I paid for, don’t bother using the milk substitute I paid for and never actually gave me an apology for their mistakes.

I live right in the area and was so excited to have a small independent cafe in my neighbourhood but this is far from a neighbourly institution. I would rather walk further than keep coming here hoping I get the one friendly barista who doesn’t hate her job or hates her patrons.

This shop is a small and simple operation, which isn't what I'm usually drawn to, but they nailed it for me today. I came to try the Polish Pillow! It's a unique drink - the taste is not quite the same as coffee but very similar, and the raspberry and almond flavour is very nice, not too sweet. I'm pretty sensitive to caffeine so I'm glad this is caffeine free! I also had their vegan wrap and a cranberry pecan spice cookie for my lunch while I was here, both of which were very satisfying. The typical coffee shop jumbo cookie is bigger than I usually want so I like that they sell small cookies designed to accompany a drink here (there are bigger ones too).
The staff was polite, and everything I ordered was presented very neatly which was a nice touch. It's not the trendiest coffee shop, but I found the unpretentious vibe to be very approachable and refreshing.

Came for lunch and had the most lovely ham and cheese crepe! The ingredients tasted super fresh, and the black forest ham added extra flavour compared to crepes I've had before.

5/5 aeropress coffee served with a cute pink/green cup.

I also love to order Latif pour over when the aeropress is not available.

Great food and pastries. I recommend getting a brioche breakfast sando with added avocado.
The coffee at Rocanini is always great! I have been coming here for years, and it’s always made the same way. The cortado is very smooth and packed with flavor. I haven’t tried any of the food yet, but I always stop and get a coffee when I’m around.

The atmosphere is very fun and relaxed , the staff are extremely nice and the interior has a lot of character. ☕️

A perfectly relaxed, clean and welcoming hipster coffee bar. They offer pasties, sandwiches and wraps as well. The staff are extremely pleasant and timely with every order. A great place to take a few minutes out for yourself.
I frequently visit Vancouver and have to say that Rocanini is one of the best coffee shops in Downtown.

I have gotten both the pour over coffee as well as a latte and they have both been superb. The latte was smooth and a perfect temperature when served. The flavor is well balanced.

Their pastries are also fantastic. I've tried the chocolate crescent roll, the plain crescent roll, and the blueberry knot pastry. The crescent rolls are both great, but the blueberry knot pastry is something I will 100% get each time I visit. The flavor of the knot pastry was fantastic and was a great addition to the coffee I was drinking.

And lastly, the staff is one of the best aspects of this coffee shop. Not only are they super nice and friendly, but they also create a uniqueness to this shop. From my understanding, most of the pastries are made in-house. After trying the blueberry knot, the barista said that she was the one that created the recipe for it which surprised me. I'm not super well versed in coffee but if you are looking for a great cup of coffee/pastries accompanied by a calm atmosphere and superb staff, I highly recommend this establishment. I'm very happy to see the owner embracing the creativity of their staff to create a unique experience that can only be found at the Rocanini Cafe.

Also the furniture and table tops at this shop are all fantastic. The tables are made out of live edge wood and it has a great appealing aesthetic.

Love this quaint cafe. The lattes are made to my liking - smooth and aromatic. Their selection of pastries are not extensive but what they have are delicious. I had a Galette today - went perfectly with my latte. People are super friendly and real.
Definitely will revisit often.

Great neighborhood specialty coffee shop. My Cortado was meticulously prepared and served promptly. Coffee is as good as you would expect from a coffee roaster.
The croissant was tasty and above average considering this is not a bakery!

I love the outside seating, watching ppl and enjoy your coffee. Almond croissant was so fresh . Interior design is nice too .
We stopped by for a quick afternoon coffee. The decor and interior is nicely designed. There is seating inside for a quick bite. My husband and i ordered an americano and an espresso on ice. Unfortunately they got the espresso order wrong - but it was still good. We ordered one of the breakfast sandwiches which was pretty tasty, how ever we did ask to add a sausage, and that was miscommunicated as well. Overall experience was pleasant.
Located in downtown Vancouver.

Good place to have your morning coffee and start the day! They have breakfast menu English muffin with ham & egg or spinach & egg, and wrap (lumber jack and rancheros). For me, its better to have your breakfast outside the hotel and try the local food, while i am travelling.

Their banana cake also very yummy (not to sweet and homemade). Services are very good.

They have good ambience for indoor seating and you can also grab your coffee and seat outside.

Recommended and will come back!

4.5 - A cozy little French Cafe with a great selection of fresh and creatively made pastries and sandwiches. We come here quite a bit. Our usuals are the double chocolate pistachio croissant and the vegetarian spinach and feta croissant and we love them both.

Their Americanos could be slightly better, but that's because I tend to like my coffee quite strong, so usually I get my Americano with an extra shot of espresso, I find the single to be a little watery for me.

The atmosphere and environment is really lovely and tastefully decorated and all the windows gives you a cozy place to sit, observe and just Be. I find the staff varies, as sometimes when we walk in there's a warm and attentive friendly greeting and sometimes there isn't.

There's also a great space outside to sit if you enjoy a nice chilly morning with your coffee cup and pastry watching the locals walk by :)
It was my first time here & it’s now one of my favourite coffee shops in Vancouver. 😍 it’s not a huge place, but if you can, grab a seat and enjoy it. Their coffee is next level & the food is delicious too. Highly recommend.

Great little coffee shop with a nice outdoor space. Located across from the art gallery. Beautiful decor inside with plenty of seating. Americano was strong, the way I like it. Prices are a little high. $5.35 for the almond croissant.

Im an avid fan of this chain and awesome coffee joint, its outdoor seating on a sunny day instantly grabbed my attention and I just had to swing by. The vibe is super cool and gave me nostalgia of being back in Rome or a cute little European-style Cafe.

As such, I didn't hesitate one bit to pickup a 'To Good to Go' app' haul of goodies, and boy did I get a surprise! A filo'loaded Pastry army equipped to take down anyone, fantastic value and great, fresh products made from natural and minimum ingredients. I managed to pickup:

Banana bread chocolate Loaf x 2
Pan au Chocolat
Chocolate Cake

The Loaf slices were also HUGE, super moist and super yum. Everything tastes very fresh and a lot of love put in from their extremely friendly staff.
This is a really nice joint in very close to the Waterfront and always has something awesome for everyone. Definetely recommend and will always return!

2023 update: Now they deserve 5 stars. Great atmosphere and service, delicious flat white and cookie, great menu, saw lots of people ordering food and everything looked great. Computer campers are banned!!! Omg I wish all coffee shops would do that!!! Of course they’re not fully banned, just from some tables which is good enough to keep a nice flow in the shop. They also host cool events, the art on the cup is gorgeous… you can tell it’s a brand that is constantly being worked on to improve for their customers. Good job!! Went back to try their food and it’s bomb, I would just suggest please toast the sourdough for the club sandwich ;)

2022: All pretty nice but forget about getting a table because every single one of them is being taken by someone sitting there on their laptop for 4h sipping on a cup of coffee.

We would of given a 5 star review but we were freezing 🥶. This big windows just let all the best out. Great coffee and oh so PLEASANT staff. Seasons greetings for sure. We could even add our own sugar. Which is such a nice change because every place we went to was full. All 3 places near here. I had a brainstorm to come here and people watch!! We will be back

Fast and friendly service! Good coffee! However, when I went in today, there was a weird smell, :( Fortunately, I just got to-go!!! Personally, I like Our Town Cafe better!!!
