The Guthrie Theatre is a performing arts theater, but we went there for the view.

It is free to walk in and take the elevator to the 5th floor Blue Room and then outside to the lookout where there are spectacular views of the Stone Arch Bridge and the city. Then you take a different elevator up to the 9th floor yellow room where there are even more spectacular and higher views of the city.

I recently went to the Guthrie for the first time and wow what an experience! I saw the show Little Shop of Horrors and it was an absolutely phenomenal experience!! I can't wait to go back. And aside from the theater, the building itself is nice to explore. The endless bridge, the amber room, all the windows showcasing downtown Minneapolis, the cute giftshop, etc. Highly, highly recommend!!

Great place to watch a show. I saw Little Shop of Horrors and it was fantastic! High quality acting, singing, and dancing. Main guy had roles on Broadway so you know it’s legit. The theater had a unique spin on the show which was interesting to see. As for the venue, I have mostly positive things to say about this place. It was clean, organized, pretty easy to know where you have to go, and even though there’s a lot of people it didn’t seem overly crowded. My only note is that the seats are horribly uncomfortable. They’re covered in the itchiest, scratchiest, bristly velvet I’ve ever felt. My sister wore a dress and the backs of her legs felt irritated. We had to use her sweatshirt to provide a barrier between the seat and her legs. In a pinch, you can always ask the usher for a few extra programs. My disclaimer for this theater is to wear long pants, or bring your own drop cloth. The seats didn’t hinder me too much from the amazing show though.

This performing arts center stands out with its unique architectural design, featuring striking protrusions. It’s a great spot to visit at night for the scenic views. When I was there, a jazz concert was playing, offering the perfect chill vibe. 😎
Had a great time at Fringe Fest! Can’t wait to come back next year.
Great stop, even if you're not going to a show. Free sights! Take the long escalator up to the 4th floor and enjoy the views from the half bridge. Then, take the elevator to the 9th floor and enjoy the views from the Yellow Room!

I saw the first ever Project Nunway by the Ladies of the Lake. Seats were good, a little slim for a plus size person but it wasn't the worst. Careful on the steps, a few people tripped. But the show was great, the venue was intimate and accommodating.

This theatre is so nicely designed architecturally framing the old Minneapolis and new part of it. Once can oversee the river and also anthony fall which clean the water use for the mill near the mill park.

The space is curated for one to take a pause to enjoy the city view and history of it. If I have longer time I would have actually book a ticket to watch a play in there. There is no ticket to be purchase to view the city from their bridge which is on the 9th floor which one has to take the elevator on the 4th storey.

Took my sibling to a show for their birthday. The Jungle is one of our favorite theaters because it is both a beautiful, comfortable space to see a show AND they put on entertaining shows that take on current and historical social issues. Thanks for putting on high quality theater in our Twin Cities community!

Beautiful and intimate "old world charm" lovingly curated neighborhood theater. New plays exposed and experimental presentations from local colleges as well. Parking in the rear with quaint eateries available after or before performances.

Mixed Blood’s production of “The Spectacularly Lamentable Trial of Miz Martha Washington” by James Ijames took an insightful and powerful script and gave it life with deftly-executed tech elements, vibrant characters from an expert ensemble, and positively electric momentum. The production engaged with America’s past in a way the audience could not help but be pulled along with, culminating in a night at the theater that was intellectually stimulating, deeply moving, and unquestionably entertaining.

Furthermore, Mixed Blood’s “radical hospitality” shatters access barriers. From pay-what-you-will tickets to captions on stage for every performance to all-gender restrooms as their standard, Mixed Blood imbues inclusivity into everything they do. Other companies should take note - THIS is how you do accessible theater.

It has been many years since I have attended anything here. We came for the performance of Giselle. At first I wondered why they chose a college theater to hold such an acclaimed ballet but as we walked in I was surprised by the regal appearance. The seats are comfortable and it is easy to walk down the stairs to see the pit. My only qualm was that they did not make am announcement for people to not be taking pictures or using phones period. The lady in front of us was constantly on her phone and it was very distracting.

We saw Menopause, the Musical. We sat in the 4th row, on the aisle of the center floor section. The seats are not off-set at all, so I was looking right at the head of the person in front of me. It was also a little too close to the stage, I couldn't really see the actors' feet, and this show talked about their shoes. I would recommend sitting a little farther back. The show was good.
Such an amazing experience! Took the wife to go see Arsenic and an Old Lace and it was such a magical time. The theater was large and clean, although I wish the seats were a bit more comfortable.

I went to see a comedy show "ISMO". Finding the seats was easy, and the theater was clean. The bathrooms are in the basement, so use the stairs or elevator to use them. I would recommend that if you are thirsty to buy two dri ks before the show starts, the consessions close shortly after the show starts, and you will be unable to get another drink.
Such an amazing small theatre. I volunteer there quite frequently and to see the behind the scenes work of each play really helps me appreciate it more. They do great work and even have a decent intermission area with food, drinks, and local art.

Another jewel in the Minneapolis Theater District crown. Compared to the State Theater and the Orpheum, the Pantages is the smallest, but possibly loveliest of the three. The interior is absolutely gorgeous, with giant columns, gilded ceilings, amazing stained glass, and chandeliers, exuding classical charm. The auditorium is relatively smaller than the other two, which makes the space feel even more intimate. Sight lines are fantastic everywhere. The gently pitched floor makes it easy to see the stage, and the sound system is more than adequate to fill the space without sounding shrill.

Entry and exit is easy, with adequate staff to help guide you if necessary. The seats are classic wooden fold down padded numbers, that are comfortable enough to get you through a two hour show. Access to the restroom is easy, as they are just downstairs in the lobby. Public parking ramps abound within blocks of the theater. They are generally expensive in the evening, but easy to walk to and are abundant.

While the Pantages Call won’t be able to compete with the other two for the “big” shows (ie: traveling Broadway acts) I feel like it’s a superior space for music and comedy. If you want to feel up close and personal with your artists in a beautiful auditorium, the Pantages is definitely a place for you.

I arrived at the theater this evening and went into the parking lot that they advertise that you use, and the Minneapolis parking app wouldn’t work with their address, even though they tell you what number to put in for the zone. So I ventured out into the cold and dark by myself, and tried Different machine had to use the machines that they had available and one was Blacked out and one was lit that I tried two different credit cards three times each and neither one of them would work with The machine, a man standing next to me using A different machine had cash and the machine would not take cash. I went inside to talk to jungle theater management and two girls from the acting group were at the front desk and said that nobody from jungle theater staff was there and it was only 40 minutes before Showtime. So I couldn’t even get my money back. It’s almost showtime, if there’s going to be a show and no one has arrived yet to work at the theater area the bar for getting drinks or snacks is not open because no one‘s here. I am here with a group and we are just in shock. It is a horrible experience, and I will never come here again .

We had orchestra seats W 141-143. They were directly in the middle of the theater, near the back of the lower level. The view of the stage was decent as long as the person in front of you is not tall. See the photo of the big head. The ballet was great but it was annoying to be surrounded by uncontrolled children eating candy, walking around, talking, standing on chairs and interrupting the performance for everyone.

A beautiful theater, well restored. I can remember visiting here way back when when it was a Mann movie theater, it really is a large space it's still manages to have an intimate feel. Plenty of parking lots and ramps around, not inexpensive but easily accessible. Very good security.
The staff was all top notch and very friendly.
What a dump. I mean I get some theater have to be rustic chic but this is not it. Good luck finding parking.
Great venue, makes the plays very immediate & present. Actors are fascinating, very good (especially considering they are all working purely for the love of theater and not, say, money). Very community-oriented programming. Concessions are limited but decent.

I recommend going on Thursdays after 5 pm, it’s free to the public at this time! This is a beautiful gallery with truly wonderful exhibits, diverse mediums, and stunning displays of art at the highest levels. It wasn’t too crowded. Pictures and videos are permitted. The staff was very polite and helpful. If you’re in downtown Minneapolis I strongly recommend this place on your “ to do list” list. A great way to inspire yourself and spend quality time with friends and family.
We went to the Free First Saturday 10am-3pm, and walked around and toured the building. We colored mandala designs on the first floor for a half hour then got bored. I am really interested in seeing the rest of the exhibits though, so I will try to get there earlier next month. Make sure you pay the meter because community police are really strict about parking. I suggest you download the flowbird app before you get there.

Was here last week for a show and was pleasantly surprised! They had a lot of snack options and drink options and the seats were comfortable for plus sized people. Parking can be an issue. So I would recommend either parking and walking in or buying a pass with your ticket at the church street garage which has an exit right at the back of Northrop.
FANTASTIC!! 100% accessible in that they do everything possible to accommodate any person that comes. They also are 100% affirming of all genders and have all gender bathrooms and are 100% accepting and embracing of all people. They really do talk the talk and walk the walk for being wonderful allies and accomplices in equity, justice and human rights advocacy. They hosted the Minneapolis Trans Voices Cabaret and it was absolutely beautiful and moving. I'm not a person who cries often and especially not in front of others. This show honestly I was in tears for most of it in a good way - I was also so glad they required masking for all - one for the overall health and respect of others but two because then people couldn't see I was crying lol. 100% this theater is amazing, beautiful and unique and everyone we encountered there was the same.

Had a terrible experience with the Box office employee. I had bought tickets to the wrong date and when I went to check if anything could be done, the manager (sure carried himself like one) fully shot down the possibility of anything being done about it. He didn't even try, he said it was impossible. Two tickets down the drain, so I asked upstairs and immediately the staff tried to see how they could help and they found me two emergency seats I could occupy and managed to see the show!

Needless to say I won't be doing Northrop again if the managers care this little about their visitors, either he didn't know there are almost always some emergency seats OR he didn't care to help either way it's unacceptable.
Great venue to see a show. The sound quality is great and I enjoyed the smaller personal experience, a great 30's Era building. A.J. Croce was an incredible experience!

Stopped in to see the "endless bridge" which is neither a bridge nor endless. Nice views of the surrounding area though. Also the yellow room is interesting. Really nice views of the city but I'm not sure why the windows are all tinted yellow? Looks like a great place to see a play though.

As always another fantastic presentation of a Christmas Carol this was the third different production of this play I have seen at the Guthrie it would be hard to pick a favorite. Designed by C. H. Johnston, Northrop Auditorium opened in 1929. Often referred to as the “Carnegie of the Midwest,” it was the home of the Minnesota Orchestra for 45 years. It underwent extensive restoration beginning in 2011. Originally seating nearly 5,000, capacity of the main auditorium was reduced to fewer than 3,000. The single broad balcony was replaced by three smaller wrap-around balconies, resulting in improved sight lines and acoustics. One of its most exciting events is the annual University of Minnesota Marching Band indoor concert.
I went to go see she kills monsters which is a good play what I was disappointed about was the main character Tilly’s actor having to use a script at another part in the play she also makes a joke about SA not cool at all. Not to mention calling a lesbian character the L word which is a slur.

The Morris Park Players (who?) might have a marketing problem, but they sure don't have a talent problem. My wife stumbled across them a few weeks ago, and we saw them do The Producers last night at Edison High School in NE Minneapolis. This venue was actually a pretty comfortable environment to watch the show, but it sounds like this is the last year that this theater group is using the high school.

Great show that didn't break the bank! The actors - leads and ensemble alike - and musicians were all consistently great, the set design was impressive, and the audience was clearly into the show. We are just *very* casual theatergoers, but we enjoyed this show substantially more than the last shows we saw recently (at the Orpheum and Brave New Workshop, and these were still good shows). Great job, thanks for the experience, and hope to see your next show, wherever you end up putting it on.
A must see when visiting the Twin Cities. We were helping out-of-town guests explore Minnesota and this was a stop we couldn’t skip. We had the perfect summer afternoon to enjoy the outdoor park.

This was a uniquely transformative experience. I was attending the premiere of In The Same Tongue, which explores Black American dance, healing, community, and a range of urgent topics seen through the artistic lens. In a City that was the focal point of a national and international explosion after the murder of George Floyd, the Walker Art Center is still addressing the need for healing.

I gotta say, this is a place colorful, crazy and a little scary. I never knew that there was a long escalator in Guthrie Theater. I don’t know too much about this place. But overall great gift shop! This art museum seems to have an “Emperor’s New clothes” effect—everyone pretends something is good/profound because they don’t want to be perceived as unintelligent. Everyone has a different taste when it comes to art, and usually art museums offer a little bit for everyone, but not this place. Aside from a couple colorful quilts, It’s one thing: abstract art completely devoid of personality or substance. Get ready for riveting art like cringe dancing and scribbles. Not at all worth $18 a person.

The Guthrie Theater is not only nationally renowned, it’s a local treasure in my humble opinion. The building itself is architecturally stunning, with the crowning feature being the “Endless Bridge” (shown most clearly in the exterior, daytime photo included with this review.) The bridge provides gorgeous views of the Mississippi River, the Stone Arch Bridge and the surrounding Mill District.

We’ve been to the Guthrie many times over the years, but most recently we saw “Into the Woods,” which was a wonderful rendition of Stephen Sondheim’s musical.
(The nighttime photos and video on this post show the views from the Endless Bridge during the intermission around 8:30pm on a summer evening.)

“Into the Woods” was performed on the Wurtele Thrust Stage, or the thrust stage. It’s named that because of how it reaches or thrusts out into the audience. It’s also the same stage where we enjoy “A Christmas Carol” at the Guthrie each and every holiday season. There’s not a bad seat in the house when it comes to the thrust stage. The entire space feels intimate and the cast does a wonderful job performing to each angle of the theater, so no guest feels like they are getting any less of a show.

Tickets prices are what you would expect for high-quality theater. As such, it’s a special occasion visit for us, maybe two times per year. But we look forward to those visits all year.

The outdoor sculpture field was full of great modern art that was very interactive. I also enjoyed the flowers in bloom and the shade of the arbors. Inside, the Walker boasts many exhibits and also offers mini-golf and there is a cafe. The museum was cool, clean, and comfortable. No food or drinks allowed inside and you must check your bags into a locker.
At the cafe, we ordered the hummus which was both beautifully presented and delicious. Pita bread was good too. The fried chicken pita entree was a flavor experience. It is worth trying. Delicious and different.

This is probably more reflective of my personal taste than anything else. I had more fun at the outdoor sculpture garden (free) then inside the museum. Although they have a strong collection with lots of big name modern artists. I really enjoyed the roof terrace and the mini-golf looked fun! The mini-golf was sold out but I still got to walk around and check out the artist pieces.

Strange parking garage lay out for nearest parking. The Walk of art, was interesting butnkot spectacular. They don't necessarily seem to flow well, very back and forth to see everything. It would be nice to have some shade or misters etc out, as clearly its pretty warm outside and some of the art pieces have you walking a bit

I enjoyed attending yesterday's show but had one notable concern. There were three or four commands to the audience to stand up because we were in a courtroom - and I had injured my back. While my inability to stand with ease was temporary, I imagine those with more enduring disabilities would not appreciate such commands, repeated sternly to enforce compliance. Please either indicate this requirement in the pre-show information or modify the script to include language about standing if you are able. Thanks

So many great performances here! It's disruptive to audience and performers to seat latecomers esp when their seats are in the middle of a row. Great commemoration of the March on Washington.
This is a wonderful intimate Theatre celebrating its 71st year! I haven't been to a performance here in 25+ years. I recall my parents attending performances here with friends back in the 1970s. A near-full house attending Agatha Christie "Who done it" Mysteries in December and "The Book Club [Play]" by Karen Zacarius.

Happy to have rediscoverer Theatre in the Round. Fun Evenings!

Rarig is just one of the venues hosting this year‘s Twin Cities fringe Festival from August 4-14. Actors gather to perform throughout the week and weekend. Rarigs theater is multi purposeful and has both stairs and elevators. Lots of space for actors to do their thang😉
Such a great theater! I was here to film a show recently and had a great time.
The Southern is an awesome proscenium stage venue! There’s not a bad seat in the house! I recently saw Kaleena Miller Dance here and the tap dancers were amazing! Parking in 7 Corners is easy if you are willing to pay at the Holiday Inn close by. The Town Hall Tavern next door is a tasty spot to have a beer and dinner before or after the show. Plus their marquee is a treat!

Had my first visit this weekend and I loved my entire experience. I came for the show “Imagine the US without Racism”. The building is easy to find and ample street and parking lot parking around the building. Entering the building they check your Covid vaccine and have mask if you left yours at home. The seating is like an amphitheater but small abs intimate. Any seat in the building you feel like you are in the front rows. The script and actors was phenomenal. There were some tear provoking moments. Afterwards a group from my university was Able to meet with a theater director and discuss the play. I would highly recommend experiencing a show here. I will be back soon!

As part of our well rounded curricula, students are encouraged to take courses outside of their major area of study. I was a pharmacy student so chemistry and pharmacology were my main areas of focus. We were therefore steered toward taking art application classes and my two were film and theater. I saw some plays here as part of my theater studies. The building's acoustics were quite good as were their special effects.

I have been to the Guthrie Theater many times over the years and enjoyed the views from the different areas of the theater that are open to the public.

Recently I saw my first performance there, and it was A Christmas Carol. I was blown away by the production!!

Everything about the show was incredible. The performers were all great, the wardrobe was very impressive, and how the sets looked and transitioned from one scene to the next was all top notch.

I will be seeing more performances here for sure!!
The young pianists competition was incredible and I was able to hear more talent from children than I've ever heard in my life
Always enjoy their productions. It is well worth the money and you'd be helping out the community.

Very interesting place. Great sight lines. Great sound. The parking is a bit tough. Many great restaurants in the area. A classic building. Saw HAIR there a few weeks ago. Most cast members were over 55! A great place. You will enjoy the place if you have never been. Go early to get a good parking place.
Awesome venue! I love the shabby chic archway over the stage. It’s a tremendous resource for the community and entertainment is an incredible value for the price.

Nice quaint theater in the heart of Lyn-lake area. Went to see the Wickhams and it was a great play with comedy ad drama. Parking is in the rear and is a shared lot, else you will have to find street parking. If you are coming to a show, expect to come early or par far away.
Had a great time with my son experiencing Taiko drumming for the first time. The theater is old full of character, which we both thought was cool (some might see it as run down). The seats were comfortable and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Simple and quaint.
Great community theatre featuring performers with a variety of age. Loved the full orchestra.

Went to see Little Women in 2018 and it was absolutely fantastic. The entire experience from entering to exit was great. The space is intimate and cozy which allowed for just about any seat in the house to be great.

Play was at 5:30. My vehicle would not fit in the parking ramp showed up at this location by 5:15 had to park in a lot a block and a half away after trying to figure out parking. made it to the front door at 5:31 exactly and was told that I could not come in for the play because they do not seat after the start.
Great theater, great people

This place is haunted by the souls of performing arts students. Also, one of the storage rooms is ideal for a underground, bare-knuckle boxing gig. platform with chairs surrounding a fairly spacious rectangular floor, plenty of room for both brawlers and spectators.
Wonderful theater, I saw their 545th performance which was Ionesco's Rhinoceros. I didn't know this is the oldest play house in the twin cities, I plan to return often as I love theatre in the round where the audience goes all the way around the stage.
One of the best entertainment experiences I've had. The ticket pricing options are great and provide a wonderful opportunity for low income patrons to enjoy live theater. The inclusiveness of this theater seems unparalleled. Multiple ASL interpreters and supertitles above the stage were provided for the hearing-impaired. They also had audio description services for those who have visual impairments and free transportation options as well. The people at Mixed Blood make a concentrated effort to have productions, cast and crew that represent a wide variety of folks, be it age, race, income, orientation, gender, etc. Beside all these great things, the production itself (How to Use a Knife by Will Snider) was a fantastic show that left my partner and I with all sorts of discussion on our way home. I can't wait to go back again for the next production this season.

Always a good time seeing a quality production at the Guthrie! Yesterday was no exception as we saw "Little Shop of Horrors" from the front row, which was really a blast. The facilities are lovely, getting to the theater from out of town was easy, and there are lots of affordable parking options nearby. Can't wait to do it again!

Multiple theatre venues. Excellent location for fringe shows. Maximize you time and see multiple shows here. Bathrooms are located on the lowest level.
