It's a hidden gym. We had fun enjoying the museum of Art and Space. Then explored the old cabin, school and house. Antiques displayed over there takes us back in time. Kuds lived the petting zoo, sheep shearing and maple syrup making.

This museum was nothing short of amazing. It was interactive. Very much realistic and some parts made you feel like you were actually living in those days.. I even left there and went to visit Medgar Evers home where he was murdered.

Went on first Saturday which was advertised as free...nope. so I spent the 13 bux .
Had some nice displays but the lighting was so low, I couldn't see the paintings.
The patrons were friendly and happy.
I was spoiled since I went to Picasso display in Atlanta which was a complete display.
Was nice to see young folks doing their own painting.

What a beautiful museum! I spent a Sunday afternoon here back in October ‘23, alone. And in my opinion that’s the best way to actually enjoy the museum- alone! I was able to read and dive deep into everything the museum had to offer. From the landscaping to the amazing art and information within. The staff were amazing and informative! And the greatest part is it’s free on Sundays. Check it out you won’t regret it :) Oh and Happy Black History month!!!!!

The docents were very helpful and informative.

The exhibits flowed perfectly around a central open area. The short movies were also high quality.

Amazing display of nature past and present. Very reasonable price, only 8$ per adult. Impressive dinosaur skeletons and live tanks holding fish, reptiles and amphibians. Worth checking out if your interested in nature native to Mississippi.

My husband, two daughters (6&7), and I toured the museum for the first time Dec 30th. We were so impressed with the exhibits and nature trails. We really enjoyed ourselves and found the admission price to be reasonable. Definitely recommend.

The perfect place for an afternoon. Although there are obvious issues, you can’t deny that the staff at the Jackson Zoo are trying their hardest with what they have. Having more attendance and sponsors would help with the structural issues they face, as there is no denying that they are underfunded. Everyone was friendly as well! There are also animal wish lists on Amazon that one can easily access to help!!

You could literally spend hours at this museum. It was a great experience and I love that it took a deeper dive into what happened in Mississippi during the civil rights era. The museum is only $15 per person and free on Sundays, highly recommend visiting.

I really enjoyed this museum. Price is very reasonable. There are displays inside and outside. I spent about 2 hours here, but I really like to read every little bit of information. I would say minimum of 1 hour for planning.

This is such a great science museum. It has plenty of types of animals, fish and insects. You need to take your time to read all the information of each of them. You'll be very entertained with such a great museum! I enjoyed it very much because inside is big and you have more dinosaurs outside. You'll like it a lot!

We attended on Saturday before the Christmas tree lighting and the Christmas tree lighting...we enjoyed both but it would have been so much better if the people of the village were there on weekends and special events. Nice both times but a little disappointing to the adults but my 8 year old grandson was more disappointed.

I brought my family here on a Sunday afternoon. The gentleman at the desk was very polite informing us that the exhibit they had in place could be seen free of charge, and luckily they currently had a Picasso exhibit available to be viewed as well for a fee. I opted to see the Picasso exhibit, which I was quite pleased with. There is a crafting area in the museum that I certainly would encourage those with children to take the time to sit down and create with your children. I took pictures of the art, but due to being unsure of the legality of uploading them, I will keep them in my camera roll. Nevertheless, you will not be disappointed.

I think this is a wonderful place to learn and increase the knowledge we can have about Mississippi history. It is place of one of the most interesting series events on the history of the US. I had a great experience, if are a person very interested might take you more than one day as you need to explore every one of the expositions. It has many short movie type documentals which are amazing to hear.

A lovely mix of international and local artists. My favorite local was Gwendolyn A. Magee, whose quilting rises to the level of museum masterpieces. I paid $18, and I think part of that was for access to the traveling Picasso landscapes exhibit. Wow! There was even a hands-on component to the cubist exhibit: sketch pads and pencils with tips for how to draw in the vein of Picasso. To see so many of his works close-up was a real treat. Guide/docent Kenya was engaging and generous with her time. Thank you for sharing your personal touch!

A beautiful building, beautifully curated! There is a great mix of text, artifacts, photos and interactive exhibits. I was welcomed by the staff at every turn. I stayed for lunch at Nissan Cafe. Admission was free today (Sunday morning.)

We were so grateful to be allowed to use Ella's house for our wedding ceremony Oct 2022. If you want something small, intimate and old fashioned, definitely worth the limited time window and while you can't touch/sit on everything, it was very cool to be provided with mostly period (to the house) chairs for our guests to sit on.

This is a really cute place. I love that it's a part of a larger park. We came for a vendor event late in the day so we didn't to look around a lot, but what we did see was nice and a lot was handicap accessible.

I live in new jersey, I went to Mississippi just to see lana del rey, I had no expectations, my first time traveling alone but Mississippi surprised me, what a beautiful and peaceful place. a place with a lot of history and emotional charge that I will definitely remember for my entire life. It's very nice I've lived here all my life I really enjoy Ella sharp but I Would like to say they should have people from the community. Be able to go out and do other things like Anybody anybody to come out? And maybe paint a rock, bring a rock out. And put the deceased, family and friends on there or themselves with photos, so they can show their children. Things of that nature I have some antiques. I would enjoy Just giving to Ella sharp. More family oriented things to do out there other than sports sports. I think we should include science. I know you have the laboratory. Science fairs for the children to go out and do anything. The carpenters to help little children and to show people what they can do with their homes. Vendors to show what they have to offer ect..Vendors with food also, I have a lot more to say. But I'm done for now, thank you, God bless.

This is a wonderful museum and grounds. Visited at the beginning of September as part of our Jackson roadtrip stop. Entrance was free and there was plenty of great pieces and interesting installations. But by far, the best part, was the kids’ section! My daughter absolutely loved it, so much in fact, that every art museum we visited after she complained that it wasn’t an art museum because she wasn’t allowed to make any art. Which, hard arguing with that logic to a 5 year old 😅

The space is smaller but if you’re bringing kids it’s honestly better, because you don’t leave feeling like you missed a whole section or a whole floor, etc. Overall, highly recommended!

I have never seen that waterfall and I have lived in the area for more than 30 years. It has paved roads with some soccer and baseball fields. Good for running some loops and there is a mini golf course. There are some bike trails I've heard but I haven't been on them so cannot offer an opinion on those.

Attended a baby shower there. Excellent decorum. The space was more than adequate and very comfortable. Guest able to play games, socialize, and dance about. Had small stage, speakers, and room for food prep. Great setting for a private gathering.

We did the putt putt golf with grandkids which was fun. It was clean but in need of some repairs. The wood stairs were wobbly here and there, one section of putt putt was roped off, and the waterfall no longer with water. Hopefully they put a little work into it because it's a gem.

It was a fun, cool Little museum. Gave a good military discount. Not a ton to see but is interesting what is there. Service was excellent. Nice gift shop with lots of cool looking books. A lot about women’s place in the developing of Wyoming history. Very informative. We enjoyed it very much.

This museum is somewhat of a hidden jewel of Jackson. It's very rich in the black culture of Mississippi's Capitol city. Our tour guide/hostess was Ms. Chonta. She was very knowledgeable, warm, inviting, and made our overall experience great. I definitely recommend this museum.

I've been going to Ella Sharp Park for well over ten year's, riding and walking the Trails. I'm currently in the process of getting a long abandoned area of Trail reopened and have been working on this for over two year's. I had one area just reopened when a Severe Thunderstorm came through bringing down several Tree's forcing me to look for another area to get access and found it hidden and I started working little by little just using my hands. I've gone as far as I can go, the Trails are walkable just need some more man power with the proper tool's to be able to get it more opened to be rideable. I was just able to find another opening to get back into the original area that I had opened last year, and these Trail Pathways do connect with the new area of Trails, this area of Trails is not the same as it was over a decade ago because of downed Tree's and limbs, the original Trail Pathways are all still there, I got as much reopened as humanly possible and still got a long ways to go.

The old house tour was ok. The old school looks nice too. The idea of volunteers dressed up like old-fashioned teachers is pretty nice. Kids and noise reduces experience quality for older people. Planetarium movie is very disappointing (7-min fake simulated video that does not show any details of stars or planets. The gallery is of poor quality too with almost no quality artifacts or paintings. Maybe my expectation is too high for a mid-size city.

This was an underwhelming experience for myself and my gbabies. The zoo looks like its been abandoned and the few (maybe ten) animals we saw looked either depressed or dead. Attention to upkeep could make a big difference, although the undesirable location makes it even more unappealing.

Love this local museum. The toddler exhibits have been the perfect way to spend a few hours. My son asks to come often and he has a blast. The events that are held are always great and we love having this little piece of history so close to home. Not to mention we had the first wedding in the new addition back in 2007. Ella Sharp is close to my heart.

I used to work here about 15 years and it was full of history and art. Now it's sort of a hands on kids museum or something. I was really disappointed. I mean if you are interested in that, then it will be fine for you. The Andrew's Gallery used to be beautiful and now there are fallen labels, blue sticky marks and the whole place needs painting. While my son enjoyed the dino exhibit for about 5 mins (lots of rubber on the ground and it smelled), I was brokenhearted to see the history gallery was GONE. Seems like a museum that is missing is identity. I'm giving it 2 stars because Ken at the front desk is a gem.

An interesting pocket museum. They have tried to make it interesting and fun and almost succeed. It strikes one as a bit disjointed without enough explanations of exhibits.
Kind of like it just grew as someone brought some new item in. It does give a flavor of the area and explains a bit of some of the towns father's. Ps they charge $8 per person.

Since I volunteer at Two MS Museums, I have toured this museum many times but finally took the time to write review.

What I love most about it is that it is presented in chronological order and very spacious. There is a very nice area to sit on 2nd floor.

They also have several theaters that discuss certain historical events/periods. I love the short films because you get a lot of information over a short period of time.

I highly recommend visiting this museum if you love history. The MS Civil Rights Museum is located in the same building. If you want to see both plan on spending at least 4-6 hours. To really take in all that is offered, you may want to visit one museum in the morning and other in afternoon.

We were attending a wedding in the park adjacent to the museum and couldn't pass up a chance to check this place out! We had such a nice time here. It was a smaller scale museum but the exhibits were very nice and everything was well taken care of. It was definitely worth the entry price for the amount of exhibits there were to check out. Nice little history lesson we had.

Wonderful educational experience in Jackson! Staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the history of the area. There was a wonderful traveling exhibit of the woman from Jackson Hole including the woman's basketball team from 1910. I would recommend stopping by when in the area.

I feel like this is an underappreciated gem in downtown Jackson. It's never been busy any time we have gone, even when free. It's a nice, peaceful place to spend an hour or so. Lovely garden on the grounds, nice, somewhat small permanent and visiting exhibits. Free on Sundays until Sept 2022 and some other days here and there - check website. Also worthwhile for special events like live outdoor music or the children's art festival. Free parking as well.

Amazing museum! The detail and information is incredible. It is very interactive, and there are so many artifacts to look at. There are great films and sound effects. If you want to go through and really take in all the information, you could spend several hours here. I really enjoyed the common thread of “how we live” and showing different home setups and with detailed dioramas. It was $15 for both this and the Civil rights museum, and I found it well worth the price. Also have a great gift shop with lots of local pottery. You can get national park passport stamps at the front desk.

I toured this museum during the Mississippi portion of a road trip, and I was really impressed! They have an excellent permanent collection of amazing works which are free to the public, and the invitational exhibit which is $15, but definitely worth it! I am always happy to give my money to parks and museums! The staff here are also very friendly and the museum is very beautiful. There is also a gorgeous Art Garden outside of the museum where you can sit and enjoy beautiful flowers and trees and sculptures.

Went to the museum of art for Japan Fest. The organizers thought they would attract 200 people. When the doors opened there were already 120 people in line. Foot traffic wise they had 500 plus attendees. Very nice showing for an inaugural event. It was hosted by the Japanese consulate. Events such as traditional drumming and flute music, sake tasting, book mark making, sushi introduction, JET program, Japanese writing, art tables.

One of the best museum that we have ever visit.
Pros: The place is pretty nice both from the outside and the inside. They are free so it is so amazing and everyone can come and visit that is so awesome. Let me pay the excise be a “special and there’s many activities that you can do while you are there.
Cons: There’s not a lot of parking space and it is downtown so that may be quite something going on. Because it is free so there’s not many special pictures of arms that you can see.

Really neat stop for exploring local Jackson Hole history, include Native Indian atifacts and the founding of Marons ridge.
Kids can complete a scavenger hunt too.

This is a place Mississippians should definitely visit. It was really detailed and enjoyable. I love learning about MS history especially Black history.

The museum is awesome!!! There are new exhibits up since I last went in 2017. I really enjoy coming here. I learn something new everytime. This museum is for people of all ages. Not only do my children really like coming, but my husband as well. The Christmas party was nice. Some of the staff were a little upset because they were trying to close before 8 when the program was over and wanted to put up everything, but other staff allowed us to tour at our own pace as well as enjoy the refreshments that were being served. I think new people need to be over the serving next year. However, it was overall very nice! I will go back in the future.

What a great reminder of old time Jackson. We are fortunate that the Oaks house has been preserved for more than 150 years. It is a treasure for our citizens.

We really enjoyed this manageable sized and informative museum. Very educational! Good overviews of slavery in the south, the civil rights movement in MS, and first hand accounts of how freed black southerners, survived, struggled to obtain an education, or moved north for better opportunities for their children.

The guide at the Oaks House was very informed and friendly. She showed many details inside and outside and displayed wonderful patience with our many questions.

I really wanted to go here but they only take cash. This needs to be better known so tourist can be prepared.
