A piece of forgotten land turned into a park. Odd, but calm and peaceful. No trash cans!?? Didn't realize it was a "pack-out" kind of site. (Remember, a forgotten piece of land.) Didn't find ANY park things...playground, restrooms, tables, trash cans...
Great large park. Lots of dogwalking and walkers. Baseball fields and large lake. We'll kept.

Good park, location good, but the kids section needs to be updated, more spacious, and the sand should be removed, and replaced with the modern clay look, glass and other objects that can harm children were found in the sand, not good, and people do these things on purpose, sick but true

It's a lovely park with a river running thru it. We enjoyed our time there and despite there being a lot of dogs around it seems that the owners were responsible and picked up after their pets.

Lots of room to spread out and also plenty of shade.

Great park with a lot of space. The playground is in the center and away from busy streets. Amenities includes bathrooms, walking paths, big field, duck ponds, workout area and ball fields.
Great place to learn about Lakewood's history in various eras. Richard Wolpin did a great job walking us through and keeping us spellbound with his unlimited stories.
This park is a 10 minute walk from the house and I love the trees they have there

It’s a nice park right by the trail. It’s not big, but it would work for a short walk.
Never been there yet hopefully soon will be going.🙂👍🐕🐾🦋🩵🪻
If you haven’t played here, put it on your list. Featuring 3 nine hole courses and each is completely different. The Canyon was my favorite, but now I love the Lynx. The Meadows is the easiest and definitely an ego booster and very super scenic. After your round, grab a seat on the patio at the Den, the food is always great and so is the service!

Adore this park it literally has it all. Running, biking, skating, horseback riding, great water views, historical buildings and machinery. Me and my son have come here almost weekly and there is always some new beauty to see or play with. Let’s just hope we can keep Lakewood from allowing construction to ruin a portion of it!

It was nice and clean. The restroom was stocked and clean with soap and updated air dryers for my hands. You don't see that in most parks. We used the community room for a birthday party on a rainy day. The room was big enough for my Sista's game night party. It was raining but the heater kept us warm and we had a great time.

I visited Ryerson Park last weekend during a baseball game, and it's a lovely spot with a few minor quirks. Parking can be a bit challenging during game days, but there's ample street parking not too far away. The bustling atmosphere around the ballpark adds to the charm.

One thing to be aware of is the adjacent dog park, which can lead to some four-legged visitors. While it's great for dog lovers, you'll need to watch out for dog poop on the walking trails and grass areas.

Despite these minor inconveniences, the park itself is very clean and well-maintained. The greenery is inviting, and it's a nice place for a leisurely stroll. If you're looking for a vibrant park with some quirks, Ryerson Park is worth a visit.
Tucked away Ina quiet valley with excellent access to trails and open space.

So peaceful. Great for walking. Bikes. Dogs. Elders. All happy family.
Great park since they got rid of the tuna fish sandwiches.
Wide, paved path, which goes around the lake and is about 1 mile in length. Several benches at different spots right on the lake, plus very nice play area for kids with several picnic tables in several spots close to the play equipment. Dog friendly and folks seem to generally considerate about keeping their dogs leashed. I think the restrooms are mostly open during the warm weather but unsure of their condition because I don't visit them. Though the park shares a border with Jewel street, the abundance of trees and vegetation throughout the park make it easier to ignore, at times even forget, that you're in the midst of an urban/ suburban area. A lovely, easy to access oasis🥰.
History in near perfect fashion of the 1800's life on cavalry fort
Very pleased with what I learned about Lakewood, NJ. Can't wait till next month. Good job....
Had a great time playing course was in great condition pace of play was slower which was odd considering we saw the Marshall 5 times in the first 5 holes.
Super helpful and friendly staff. We were visiting from out of town and with a one day call ahead we’re able to reserve a teatime as well as rent clubs. The starter was very helpful in terms of directions once we got on the course. The course itself is wide open but challenging enough. Beautiful views of Red Rocks amphitheater, and Mountains..

Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park is fabulous to walk through. From the visitor center to the Colfax hub and farm center, there are many interesting thing to see and learn about. Walking among the many trails around the lake, you will have the opportunity to see many beautiful and serene sights. I loved the Estes motel (a part of a large complex operated in the 50’s) and the tractor shed with all the vintage vehicles in it. The visitor center itself offers a cute exhibition and even the gift store is cute. Staff is cheerful, park is very well maintained and there is much parking available.
Lovely county park. Lake Beach looked like it had been closed for quite a while. Don't think I would swim there even if it were open. A few trails and tennis courts. Other side of park with the picnic tables was nicer.
Nice lil spot. Got shot up like 2 days ago tho

A sweet little garden is part of this walk around the lake. Many succulents that I have never seen before. There's also a huge playground and plenty of parking. Public bathrooms available.
WOW what a fantastic golf course. This course has everything to offer! The views are breathtaking. The course is so immaculate throughout the entire course. Greens are challenging, fairways are somewhat forgiving and the rough well good luck! This course is a must play when you’re looking for a course around the area.

This is flagship county park in Ocean county in terms of amenities. While I prefer more secluded Wells Mills in this county’s park system, pleasant smell of white pines while hiking (legacy of being Rockefeller former vacation estate) is a major draw for me, and typical Pine Barren’s pitch pines just don’t have it.
Wonder to see the rich history of Lakewood preserved so well. I enjoyed learning more about the hotels, the families and stories that made Lakewood a beautiful place. The museum also brought back many wonderful memories from my time living there.

There is a lake tucked right behind the Heritage Center in Lakewood! If you don't know it's there you'll definitely miss it! It is so beautiful out here! Great for bird watching, beautiful mountain views, and a fun little boardwalk! Great spot for kiddos!
Been going to Kendrick Park since the early 1980's. Wonderful place for kids. Now that I'm an old guy, It's a great place to walk the dogs.
I’ve only been to the driving range, but it was a wonderful experience! $10 for a large bucket of balls, range is on the grass, and beautiful scenery! Went around Noon on a warm Saturday and it was busy, but people were super accommodating and shared the space in between breaks. Friendly staff and overall great value! Will be back

Lovely park. Lots of walking trails. Mostly paved sidewalk or packed dirt hiking paths. Lots of birds and geese, good for birdwatching. Today we saw many cormorants. And there is a district with historic buildings, recreations, and a museum. The weir gulch passes through and is neat to stroll along.

Very cool park in the belmar area of Lakewood. Lots of trails around the pond, areas to sit, and walk your dog. A few statues can be found and there's an area of the park with historical buildings and objects. It takes about 20 minutes to walk around the pond, good day outside!
Cool historic museum of the military fort from the 1800.

To see most of it, you need to do one of the guided tours. You cannot see everything on a self guided tour.

There are four buildings you can see on the tour, each with different themes showing what activities would have taken place in the past. The tour guides were great, giving detailed explanations of the rooms, activities, and history of the fort and the people of the time.
Wonderful community park! Take a walk, have a picnic, look for wildlife or just enjoy the sunsets. Nice picnic area and a pavilion for small events. Good restroom facilities and lots of trail options. Look out for Goose poop and please pickup after your pets.
Have you heard of the Ocean County Society of Model Railroaders train club located in the basement? They have a O scale layout and now, currently buidling a HO scale layout

1 of Lakewood's 3 "Drone Reservation" parks. These seem to have been picked using the same criteria used for picking land for the Indian Reservations in the 1800's: What land to do we have, that we like the very least? That is what we will reserve for drone pilots!

The park is small, so your flying space is limited. If you're doing FPV, there's not much to look at. The open terrain for fixed wing is about 200 yards long, and 140 yards wide at it's widest, narrowing down to only 80 yards at the far end. You'll have to be careful of pedestrians and dog walkers, so that you stay clear of them, further narrowing your flight area.

As another reviewer mentioned, not all dog walkers clean up after their pets; beware of doggie land mines.

What a great enjoyable day at Fox Hollow golf course

our tee time was 850am. the weather was perfect. we got there in time to be able to hit some balls

one recommendation is take a look at the driving range before you go buy your bucket of balls because we bought two buckets at five dollars each and then we walked over to the driving range and there were a ton of leftover balls. so you may not even need to buy any.

the golf course was beautiful and in great shape!
the only thing is the Fairways are a little narrow but that’s fine for me. the scenery was great and the course had some varying obstacles but nothing too challenging.
Ocean county park is one of my favorite county parks. It's lush greenery both in trees and grass fields is always kept so nice. I have been coming to this park for 40 yrs on my own. 🙃 those that know, know. It has always seemed well maintained . I've hiked the park, had personal trainer sessions at the park @foodisfuel , went to gs here as a child even went to the ocean county fair here I believe. Prior to it being at Miller Airport. There are tennis courts and pickleball. There are a few playgrounds for children. And today I found out there is a great disk golf course. The course was alot of fun, in that it took you thru the trees and across the fields. (Beware of ticks) you cross the stream a cpl times. Which is a challenge to clear for a beginner but worth the effort. 🙂 There is a big picnic area which you may need permits for, but it looks nice and clean and has a pond. the park is free to get in and they close at dusk.
1st time playing this track.
Canyons - Meadows combination. 2 completely different courses, both very nice. I highly recommend. Though the greens were on the slow side. It's still an awesome course.

I ended up at Kendrick Lake Park completely by accident and I am glad I did!! There was a storm I was chasing through the area and I wanted to go somewhere good for the sunset so I ended up here! I highly recommend walking around the trail for the entire lake because the landscape changes quite a bit and you can get great shots from all around the lake. I found a beautiful Heron sitting in the bushes and it kept moving around the lake so it was great to get it from different vantage points. The lake is relatively small so the waves are not too bad which make for some still, peaceful shots of the lake. This is a great place to catch a sunset at a less crowded park near Denver!
The fort straddles the road to it and the south side of the fort had walking paths, ball playing fields and picnic areas, good parking. The north side has a number of historic buildings including the state mental hospital. No tours. Open areas, well kept and neat. Worth a day's outing. I rate it a ten.

Very tiny playground. Nice grass area. It's a little neighborhood park and not a destination.
This Museum consists of three, of the original six, two story buildings that at one time contained officer's quarters and was called "Officer's Row." Alongside officer's row is another original building, all of which date from the 1850's, that served as both an Army Chapel and Quartermaster offices. There is an interpretive center with an incredible diorama of the complete fort complex plus loads of historic artifacts. You can take a guided tour of all four buildings which is super cool! Everything is set up exactly as it would have appeared during the American Civil War.

Nice park to take your children friends or family to play soccer or in the play ground. It also has a gated fence so the children can't run into the streets.
This park is amazing. There are tons of trails up in the hills, around the lake and through the woods. The trails around the lake are paved. The paths in the trees are pretty easy, the trails in the hills can be very steep. The view is unbelievable.

It uses to be nice. Its ghetto now. They even lock the bathroom before 6pm but it doesn't close until way later. Update, is it is 6:31pm and this sign is newly posted. Ans the bathroom is closed. So on top of suspicious characters lurking about on my afternoon stroll I gotta leave to find a restroom. Meanwhile the undesirables pee all over the park.
Small but fun. The historical society members love what they do and will gladly walk you through the historical daily activities of military life in the pacific northwest in the 1880's.
For some reason I couldn’t find the park, the GPS took me to a spot that was different than the pictures

Really enjoyed visiting here.
The staff’s enthusiasm for Lakewood history was contagious.
Lots of interesting artifacts and exhibits on all eras of Lakewood history.
The building it is housed in has a long and storied history as a boys boarding school and an armed forces location among other things.
One famed alumnus of the school was Vietnamese leader Ho Chi Minh.
It's a great place to take the kids. Good play area for the kids, plenty of open grass area's for frisbee or whatever. And they allow beer!!!
Beautiful park. Good trail to walk. This is the best park I have seen in the area of Lakewood.its a well maintained park. They have a nice garden area that is walk through.you can sit and watch geese, ducks, and bunnies.Huge playground and plenty of fishing spots are there.I really liked this lake park.

As others have mentioned Wright park is a nice park for walking dogs. It is fairly well maintained and has a decent loop for walking and running around. There is a small playground and play-set for children. Trashcans are located around the perimeter for disposal of doggy gifts.
*Edit: I didn’t realize dogs actually aren’t allowed at this park. I saw the sign after I went back. Very sad because it was perfect for him!*

Very cute hidden park. I was dog sitting a pup who doesn’t get along with other dogs so I needed to find a small secluded park. This one was perfect! We were the only ones there on a Sunday too! Everything was pretty clean, except for some food trash that people decided not to clean up after themselves. Please keep the parks clean! :)

Nice park in residential community. You do not see it from the main street. In fact there is no sign showing park from main street. The park is completely fenced. We entered thru the small gate in front. Several slopes for walking up and down. Also picnic tables located in different places. Sandy playground with 2 swings for older kids and 2 for younger kids. No slides but a climbing area with bars and rope. Stairs to walk across from side to side of the covered structure. Have monkey bars in large circle formation and a very small zip line. The zip line has no way for the kids to enter onto it. You have to hold them up to reach the bar every time they want to use it. (Only negative about the equipment). Great place to walk around and saw couple of older residences walking their dogs. The residents can enter thru 2 other entrances from their streets and there is a water fountain. Grounds were very well maintained. No covered picnic area and no baseball field or basketball court. Nice park for the residential area and my 7 yr old great niece did enjoy playing there for about 2.5 hrs.
Nice park my Granddaughter loves the tire swing.well maintained also has basketball hoop and a jungle gym with slides.

Great quiet park. Lots of people take there dogs here to play fetch. As well, it's a great place to sled when it snows!
Fort Steilacoom's beginning started with the massacre at the Whitman Mission in 1847. An attack by the Cayuse murdered Dr Marcus and Narcissa Whitman plus eleven others. In response, the US Army established Fort Steilacoom in 1849.

Located near Lake Steilacoom, Fort Steilacoom became one of the first US Army's outposts north of the Columbia River. It was built to counter concerns with settlers about Native American uprisings.

During the signing of the Medicine Creek Treaty in 1854, nine local Native American tribes supposedly signed away their rights to their lands (King, Pierce, Lewis, Thurston, Mason and Gray's Harbor Counties). Chief Leschi, representing the Nisqually and Puyallup tribes, had led a group to the territorial capital of Olympia to claim that the reservation lands were unfit for crop production and removed them from necessary salmon rivers. The territorial Governor Stevens declared martial law. The Puget Sound War of 1855-1856 soon followed.

The US Army 9th and 4th Infantries were assigned to Fort Steilacoom during the Indian War. In one of the subsequent battles, volunteer US Army Colonel Abram Moses was killed. Chief Leschi was blamed for the murder and was eventually arrested, and brought to Fort Steillacoom as a prisoner of war.

After two trials, Chief Leschi was sentenced to death. Because he was a prisoner of war, Fort Steilacoom refused to carry out the execution. The territorial government in Olympia then passed a law allowing civilian authorities to carry out the death sentence. Chief Leschi was hanged in a meadow near Fort Steilacoom in 1858.

In 1859-1860, the 9th Infantry under the command of Captain George Pickett left for the San Juan Islands during the Pig War. In a boundary dispute with Great Britain, British naval superiority led to quick negotiations with each country stationed on opposing ends of San Juan Island.

In 1861, the US Army left Fort Steilacoom for the Civil War. The fort was decommissioned as a military post in 1868. In 1871, the buildings were re-designated as a territorial insane asylum. Currently, it houses Western State Hospital.

At Fort Steilacoom there is a free museum, open every first Sunday of each month from 1:00 to 4:00 pm (plus special events). Restoration is continuing as funds become available, donations gladly accepted. These four original remaining historic buildings (1857-8), museum and tour are certainly worthy of a visit. Please help support Historic Fort Steilacoom.

Great neighbors. Everyone wants into Cherry Cove...but not everyone has the money, although it's a steal of a price...still too high for a lot of folks. But, like some areas, there are a few homes that owners refuse to improve. These are the ones to find and buy if you are a first time buyer. We've lived here since 1987 and still love our home. Lakewood is a great community with many parks, including Cherry Cove Park. Great place to raise a family.
