Top Authentic Japanese restaurants in Frankfurt, Germany

Very rich variety of Sushi’s and Sashimi - one of best Sushi 🍱 that I’ve had in Frankfurt am main. We were lucky to find a table Saturday evening without any reservations. Service was relatively fast and kind.

Richtig leckeres Sushi, sehr aufmerksamer und freundlicher Service. Durch Zufall heute entdeckt, wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und kommen sicher wieder….

Wir hatten hier einen kurzen aber sensationell leckeren Sushiabend.
Im schön eingerichteten Restaurant gab es einen sehr freundlichen Empfang und wir konnten für eine Stunde den letzten Tisch erhalten, was zeitlich genau gereicht hat.
Sehr zuvorkommender Service ( dem Kellner fiel proaktiv auf dass die Himbeer Zironenlimo zu dünn war und brachte kostenfrei Ersatz, sehr freundlich beim Empfang etc.), sehr leckeres Sushi in großen Stücken (klare Empfehlung, die größte Sushiplatte für 48 Euro/ 2P.). Die Vorspeise ("Aubergine Miso") war auch lecker umd besonders.

Wahrscheinlich mit das beste Sushi was wir seit langem gegessen haben, dazu nette Atmosphäre. Empfehlung: Reservierung und diese eher im hinteren Bereich des Restaurants.

I'd been having quite a horrendous day and experience at the airport, after sorting my flight I needed some good food and stopped in and it didn't disappoint. The food is really good, fast service and relaxed atmosphere, so pleased I came!

The sushi bowls (as this is basically the only thing on the menu) are with average taste and quality. Hence, the price felt expensive, also taking into account the rather “poor” restaurant

They took forever to take the order even though it was not super full. The staff was passing by and ignoring. Other than that the food was tasty.

Food was not special, fusion style so a bit like Wagamama. Gyoza tasted like frozen ones

If you love ramen, this the place to have them. Tasty dishes, super friendly service. Highly recommended!

Unfortunately the udon noodle dish was quite tasteless. Soda was warm and without bubbles. There was no house beer available. The place itself is nice and clean. The staff was attentive and comfy.

The standard broth isn't as spicy as expected, but you only make that mistake once. The Yakitori is heavenly.

I love the authenticity of their food, it’s really comforting.
My favorite are there ramen (its too good that we forgot to take a photo of it).

Ich war heute zum ersten Mal im Sakura und habe mir das Original Japanische Sushi Menü bestellt. Wow - eine tolle Erfahrung 🥰 Super lecker, abwechslungsreich und einfach nur klasse 😋 Der Service war auch herausragend.

The tacoyaki is very delicious，but my noodle is a little bit cold when served😭

We have already visited this place several times. Everytime service was great and food was delicious. Prices are exactlt on point. I can only recommend it if you’re in Frankfurt.

Stopped at this restaurant for dinner and order a poke bowl. The food came out very fast but the rest of the service was very slow 10 min wait for menu, 15 min for bill. Barely a word said and cold service. Thank goodness the food was good.

Authentic Japanese Izekaya, with assortment of Japanese dishes as known to the standard western expectations but a great selection of very original Japanese food.
Frash and tasty food of good quality well presented.
It is an experience and delight to try sometimes unusual food in usual surroundings.
Very nice service with funny situations as some of the service speak only a little German or English. Enjoy 😃

Very small place with limited seating, but you don't come here for the atmosphere or social aspect, you come here for the food ... And the food really is top notch. I love sushi, and I've been to more sushi restaurants than I can count or recall. Predominantly what differentiates between them is the selection, but when you go to a place where something as simple as a nigiri or sashimi tastes superior, you know you've found one of the top 5% of sushi restaurants that are on par with the quality of sushi you find in Japan. Iwase is in that category.

Very authentic but with a modern twist! I loved the bowls and sushi rolls! The rolls are rather creative, so if you’re into traditional sushi than I’d recommend SuperKato! Appetizers and deserts are also amazing here! I will die for the fried eggplant (unfortunately didn’t make a picture of it) and matcha tiramisu!

Amazing authentic Japanese food, prepared the traditional way just like I used to eat at my Japanese great-grandparents' home. They don't bent the menu to satisfy the German taste, so you can find genuine food like nattō. An absolute delight.

This is a must for everyone who likes Japanese food. When you pass the restaurant watch out you don’t miss it! It’s so tiny 😉

When we were here (on a Saturday around 1PM) it was crowded but we were lucky to get a table. But don’t worry. Just wait outside. It’s worth it.

Don is ok but ramen was not good as not enough hot and taste unfortunately…
However price is very good.

Ordered through Uber Eats. Good price quality. Had 2 house beers, the veggie noodles, and the chicken gyozas. Tasty food. Well packed.

Ich war schon öfter hier, da das Sushi so lecker ist. Das Personal ist wirklich UNGLAUBLICH freundlich, es ist super schnell und bringt das Sushi in kürzester Zeit. Der Fisch ist sehr frisch und die Nachspeisen super lecker. Die Preise waren total gerechtfertigt, da die Portionen sehr großzügig sind. 100% Empfehlung <3

It was ok. The big disappointment was the smell of dirty, old oil that made our clothes STINK. Horrible while traveling.
The food was ok. Enjoyed the tofu salad and the kimchi. The pancake wasn’t bad but also not so flavorful - though most food in Frankfurt of all cuisines was bland. My friend had the chicken and liked it. Good crunch and sauce. The dumplings were nice. The ice cream was really good.
The waitress was very nice and the spot was cute, with open view to the chef - and, unfortunately, the smell.
Wish could say it was great and we understand why so popular, but we wouldn’t be likely to return.

It is a very quiet place, everything is clean, the attention was fast and the food of very good quality

Nice izakaya with almost authentic foods and interior space. The rice quality can be better (e.g. use Koshihikari), also misoshiru. Reasonable price, strategic location.

I had spontaneously tried to stop by this place twice before, only to be told the whole evening was completely booked. This time, with having made a reservation, everything went smoothly. The place is very small with a max of 10 tables inside and some more outside on sunny, warm days. The food itself was very good, with the exception of the edamame, which, for some reason, was served frozen cold, and two of their menu drinks were "out".. tough luck for is maybe. The staff was friendly enough. Food was served freshly made and quickly enough. Portions are decent though a bit on the expensive side. We had two dishes and tow entrees with one drink each and walked away with a 80 euro bill. All in all, i will be back again to try different menu options and perhaps improve my impression on this place.

Loved this place. The miso soup and shrimp appetizers were great! They have good vegetarian rolls as options as well. I wasn't a huge fan of the spicy tuna roll, I have had better, but the other rolls were really delicious! Also the matcha tiramisu was divine! Definitely recommend this place and if you happen to order dessert, order your own matcha tiramisu, don't share! 😉

A wonderful authentic experience with delicious food and attentive service! We ordered a variety of dishes from sushi to ramen to katsu-don and everyone was more than happy! Definitely somewhere to go if you're looking for that variety but also want authentic cuisine.

A small authentic place in the middle of Frankfurt. Loved the atmosphere. If you get jokes and dark humor, it's the place to go since the chef is quite a character. Food was really authentic. A real japanese experience. No Philadelphia cheese or mayo ingredients. Raw fish only. Great quality raw tuna. Loved it! Would definitely come back and recommend to others. If you want to experience something different than "western japanese restaurants" it's the place to go.

Very clean, cozy Japanese music and good quality of fish.
The chief made me think of the Japanese cooking TV show, who is full of passion for his job.

The sushi set of 28 EUR was really worth it. Every piece of sushi was fresh and tasty. The grilled Tofu had a firm texture, which i liked. The grilled duck was unfortunately too dry and overcooked.

The grilled duck was tasty. I ordered sushi set without wasabi but accidentally still had it in the sushi. After reporting to the waitress i got a new plate and the one i ate already came in addition again. It was just a small gesture but delivered a really good feeling to me.

Friendly service. The okonomiyaki was tasty and the rice bowl was okay and tastes light and fresh, but lacked personality.

A detractor for us was the fast music, playing at 150 bpm, as this was too fast to relaxingly enjoy our meals.

There were no place to hang our winter coats, but they did offer a small box where we can put ou coats in and leave next to the table on the floor. See the photo.

It's totally worth your time to dine in here. The atmosphere also reminds you of the izakaya type bar to hang out with friends. I'm definitely gonna come back here. 😍 I recommend firstly book a table, because mostly it's fully booked

The food was really good. Though the wait between our order being taken and being delivered was around 45 minutes as they seems to have lost the original order.

I finally made it to try Takumi in Frankfurt though I have visited their shops in different cities of Germany and even Becsalona. As I am so familiar with this Japanese ramen restaurant, I know very well what they have to offer. There was no surprise, either pleasant or negative, when I visited their Frankfurt shop. A good place for authentic Japanese ramen though I prefer thinner ramen like those served by the nearby Ramen Jun. Service was a bit slow as there were only two waiters at the time we were there. The atmosphere was casual but it was a bit noisy.

What a great found! It's very authentic and real Japanese. I literally felt like I was in Japan. All the dishes were so amazing and dreamy.

Grilled mackerel, Oden and Tofu dishes were so unforgettable.

I will definitely come back upon my return to Frankfurt

You have to have some humor yourself to appreciate the swagger of the chef.
It is someone who respects and loves the food he prepares and hope whoever eats it feel the same way. He spends time ‘teaching’ every table that wasabi and soy sauce should not be mixed together for a better experience. I personally enjoyed him doing so as it created some more communication between the chef and customer.
Not to mention the million hand drawn posters emphasizing that he sells only raw fish, no avocado no vegetarian etc. which cracked me up so badly ( if you look close enough there are tiny spelling mistakes everywhere🤣)
One last thing, very nice nostalgic music!

The Place: Its a small but Cozy Japanese Restaurant. kinda like Izakaya Style. The Atmosphere is very Japanese 👍 Scale of 1:1 from Japan

The Food: Ordere some Appetizers and Set Menu. The Oyster appetizer is good. Oyster is not from Frozen section of Supermarket at all. The Shisamo Fish is also good. I tasted the Chicken Yakitori and it is also very japanese Recipe. Not the typical imbiss microwave oven baked one, it is authentic. I tasted their Sushi platter. its a genuine one 👍 Salmon and Tuna just melts in your mouth. The Fatty Tuna sushi is very fresh! The Unagi is fantastic! Grade A Unagi is used for sure since from the taste and bite quality is absolutely amazingly good. The Grilled Salmon with Teriyaki sauce is also something this house is good at. Very recommendable

The People: Run by Japanese staff and Sushi Chef so everything here is authentic 👍

The Price: It is on the reasonable side I would say. For the Quality and Quantity I recieved, it is practically in a good price race.

I have ordered these 3 dishes and they were awful. I think Gyoza BBQ was made with an “ancient” oil, it was disgusting… Dimsum-chicken was stuffed with too much of onions. Vegetables in Reddo Kare were too bitter. They ruined my dinner.

Went there twice in a week and there’ll be a third time for sure :)
The veggie miso (especially the broth) is top rated among my friends from both Asia and Europe.
Karaage is very juice and serves as a great addition to whatever the ramen you get.
Ps: Veggie miso > Tori miso > Tori Paitan

A small restaurant in Frankfurt that deserves more recognition. There seems to be only one chef who cares great care of the quality and taste of the food. As there is one chef only, a long time is required for the food to come out, yet the quality of food made us forget the waiting. He has great humour, and explains to us how to best enjoy the food in an authentic Japanese style. This is the BEST Japanese restaurant in Frankfurt!

All menus were more than satisfactory! The seafood is very fresh, perhaps the best one in Frankfurt. Gyoza, takoyaki, and kara age are all crispy and tasty. I had chazuke for the first time, which was so warm and delightful. And of course, the ramen is a must to try as well 🍜 Since the restaurant is small, yet always full, reservation is absolutely necessary. It takes a while for the food to come out, but that is not a problem given its heavenly taste 💕

The Okonomiyaki tastes really good. I've tried the one with the Miso sauce and it was yum 😋 I preferred the beef better than the chicken but both were very delicious and tender. The portions are not big though.
I'm not sure what the name of the starter is, it was delicious with tofu and lotus roots.

The home made Yuzu drink tastes refreshing, you can order it hot or cold ans enjoy the tartness of Yuzu.

The staff are very friendly. I'd highly recommend to book before you show up. The restaurant is cozy and small and you might end up not getting a chair.

I wish they had a mix plate of appetizers or they could recommend us what we should get. The starter menu was written per Hand and if you are not familiar with japanese kitchen you might be a little lost coz I found it somehow confusing.

After a few days of German food here, we were yearning for a change and delighted to chance upon a Japanese Izakaya - the perfect place that we were hoping to find here in Frankfurt. We arrived here at close to 9pm when the sun was setting and thankful that they allowed us in. The place was full when we arrived and fortunately a couple from a table were leaving. Being Japanese cuisine lovers ourselves, our verdict is that the food is really good - both quality and the value.

Authentic sushi restaurant serving top quality raw fish. Casual atmosphere run by an eccentric chef from Japan who will tell you that they do not serve 'avocado rolls' and that you should not put your wasabi in soy sauce. If you can't deal with that, don't go here and ruin it for the people who appreciate Japanese food done the proper way!

Returned there for the first time since the lockdowns, and still hands down the best Chirashi in town. Chef is always a delight to hang around and will gladly share his masterful knowledge of sushi etiquette.

Amazing food - price - quality ratio. I was hoping for more Japan inspired drinks and beverages. Staff was nice. Interior is ok but the seating is very uncomfortable which makes it only place for a quick food and leaves. It’s unfortunately not a place where you can socialize and enjoy your drink after food. Hope they change that soon.

Tiny, cozy, little sushi place with the best quality and variety of seafood. Chef is a character. Great time

FOOD & DRINKS
We tried some snacks and a few dishes. I had the Buta Don as my entrée which was okay. I was a bit disappointed with my dish to be honest. The Karaage and the Takoyaki on the other hand were good. My sister tried the okonomiyaki and allowed me to have a bite. I would say this is the main dish to go for.

ATMOSPHERE
Modern industrial look yet still cozy with a bit of Japanese flair. I really like it.

Even though I didn’t fully enjoy my dish, the overall experience was very nice. I would recommend this authentic restaurant to anyone who wants to try out Japanese cuisine. The Buta Don needs more oomph.

I was really excited to try this place after hearing good word about it. However, I was disappointed. The broth was tasty but I was not a fan of the yellow curly ramen noodles used. So if you are like me and enjoy the Japanese thin straight noodles, I would not recommend this place. We also ordered gyoza which were decent.

Best authentic Japanese ramen in Frankfurt with Japanese level services! Don’t be afraid of their two star chili sign - it’s not that spicy - however they offer extra spicy!
A bit pricy but totally worth it.

Dumpling is just alright (I prefer the Chinese dumpling) but they have special offer on every Wednesday

I felt like I went to food trip to Japan shortly. It was incredibly good! All foods are really authentic. The restaurant is very cozy and definitely good for a dating place as well. You must book the table in advance. It's pricy but worthy it to try for special day😊

Delicious food! Quite pricey but still worth a visit. Staff is nice but very slow with service as they don’t have many employees. Indoor area is small and a bit cramped. Dorayaki with matcha ice cream was amazing, loved it the most!

Kitchen closed 1.15 hours before closing time. It is 8:42 Sunday, they close at 10pm and when I went to get a to go order they’ve told me the kitchen is closed. I like this place but really? You’ve closed your kitchen over an hour before closing time. Why are you even open?

Good! I’m so glad they finally got real hot sauce. It really helps with the food that often has little flavor. Overall much better now!

This tiny, unassuming restaurant is home to some of the finest Japanese cuisine that Frankfurt has to offer. Their fish is fresh and delicious, and the sushi rice is perfect. Tempura is wonderfully crisp and tasty as well. The waitstaff are polite and friendly.
They serve a truly excellent lunch menu, with amazing tempura and sashimi sets.

Karte hat sich etwas geändert (Bowls und Curry kamen dazu), haben das mehrgängige Sushi / Sashimi Menü gegessen. Auf Änderungswünsche wurde sehr nett eingegangen. Tee schmeckt auch sehr lecker.

Very authentic - too authentic for some, it seems. Expect a Japanese izakaya and real sushi/sashimi. No vegetarian options, no noodles, etc. And no Western-style sushi (e.g. california rolls) either. As the chef will tell you on the phone, and at least half a dozen signs outside and inside the restaurant will tell you (rather rudely): raw fish only (plus appetizers, sides and desserts).

The outside of the restaurant isn't very inviting, and only fans of traditional izakayas will enjoy the inside.

The restaurant is run by the chef and his wife only, and the chef is rather slow at preparing sushi (not just because of he's carefully preparing high quality dishes), so expect long waiting times (as indicated in the menu). The place wasn't even half full and the dishes took a long time to arrive.

They're both friendly, but it seems a lot of people expect dishes that they don't offer, and they're seriously fed up with it, it seems. Expect to be lectured in many ways, if you can't convince the chef that you know proper Japanese sushi/sashimi and how to eat it. I told him in Japanese that I used to live in Japan, and that was the end of that for me.

The food is prepared with a lot of love, and the fish is of high quality. And as I said, very authentically prepared. But also rather pricey.

Just the sushi rice confused me a bit, it had a rather strong sweet-sour flavor (instead of being just lightly vinegared), which was very weird and not authentic at all, at least not in my experience in the years I spent in Japan. Others wondered about the sweetness of the rice as well. It was also colder than I ever received my rice, even though I arrived at opening time.

Honestly, I think he's a hobby cook but surely not a sushi chef trained in Japan.

All in all, I'm not sure I'd recommend a visit here to anyone who hasn't been in Japan several times. But those who have, and don't mind the lecturing (in a rather rude voice - probably due to the language barrier), and have no other source of authentic sushi/sashimi, it's definitely worth a visit.

Last minute add: the chef can get very angry if you have atypical requests (as per Japanese customs) - not at me, but a couple that obviously hasn't been in Japan ever, made a request (I think for soy sauce even though the dish was already flavored) that made him quite loud. Not pleasant for the other guests either. Thus I'll remove another star.

Aaand I saw the chef put some food into his mouth while preparing sushi, with the same bare hands. So hygiene isn't up to standard as well, neither in Japan nor Germany. There goes another star and the small chance of my return here.

I was just looking for some kinds of asian food during my business trip. I searched and found this restaurant was highly recommended in my google. When my food was delivered to my table, I laughed at it but not mad.
This was not a REAL Japanese Restaurant at all. The Ramen(noodles) was not like Japanese and there were a lot of vegetables within the soup, such as carrots and bean sprouts. Also, they don’t have sushi in the order. It’s really interesting and I was wondering why many Germans or foreigners go to this restaurant.
If you were Japanese or Asian, I promise you will feel disappointed at it and feel weird when you eat. Maybe it’s just a German style and let

To compare with Japanese noodles, MoschMosch is definitely not a real Japanese restaurant.
However, their service, attitude and atmosphere is good and well done.

Really good food and authentic! What makes me happy, is that they don't serve (like most of the Japanese restaurants) "Sushi", but Japanese pancakes, Takoyaki and other fun and delicious stuff. Also the music and ambiance is really nice.
