Reviews

FortWhyte is a place that never disappoints. It is equally fun to go during each season and see how much the landscape changes. Kids can have fun looking for bugs and learning about Manitoban animals.

Easy to moderate hike. Well marked.

These falls, just 30kms south of Jasper, were so picturesque! I absolutely loved them. There was a large volume of water when we were there in September. Clear, paved paths, with some steps, led to viewing areas at the top, middle and base of the falls. It was interesting to view the falls from these different angles, especially the canyon, potholes and downstream flow. It's about a 1 km out-and-back trail (15mins), but allow more time for admiring the scenery and taking photos! Athabasca Falls may not be famous for height or width, but the volume of water and background of forests and mountains create a stunning setting for these gorgeous falls. There were toilet facilities at the car park.

Steap but beautiful.

The Athabasca Falls in Jasper are very impressive! Great viewpoints from many angles allow you to see the rushing waters of the falls. The potholes are really unique. It was cool to look down upon them to see all the layers of rock wearing away. This scenic area is really easy to get to but gets very crowded. Paths can get a little slippery, so come prepared wearing sensible footwear. Easy hike takes around twenty minutes to see.

Don’t let your husband trick you into walking to Mount Royal then hiking through the woods. You can absolutely take an Uber and get dropped off! 😂 The hike is beautiful if one was dressed appropriately for it and brought water. The over look was beautiful and bathrooms along with a cafe is also available. The cross is a little further from the overlook but I was like what the heck my blowout is ruined and my makeup was already sliding down my face…what’s a little further going to hurt. It was great glad we did it.

Do not stop to the Belvedere, this is place to go if you are looking for more elevation (and the path will let you have great views on the city and the nature).

Granddaughters & I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Oak Hammock Marsh today. We were welcomed by friendly staff at front desk. The café offered delicious food choices. Bison chili & wild rice burger were very tasty. Ethan gave us an informative & fun presentation on water critters. The trail walks were peaceful & critter dipping a joy!!

Unique and worth the walk as many viewpoints nearby!

I recently visited this place and was completely fascinated by the beauty and serenity that this place offers. From the moment I entered, I perceived a feeling of tranquility that is difficult to find elsewhere. This is a real gem for nature lovers and those who wish to immerse themselves in an environment rich in biodiversity. The variety of plants, trees is extraordinary. I loved how each section is precisely curated, allowing visitors to explore and discover the wonders of global flora. Every corner offers a new educational and visual experience. This is also a perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. Strategically placed benches offer quiet corners to sit and contemplate your surroundings.
In conclusion, I highly recommend a visit to this place to anyone who wishes to spend time immersed in the beauty and diversity of the plant kingdom. It is an experience that I deeply appreciated and that I will certainly repeat.

Absolutely love this place. Whether you want an easier trail experience or to head off the beaten path to explore a bit deeper, it's always a winner.

Awesome trails and lots of greenery. Good place for watching goose, ducks and other animals and a lot of history. Bison viewing is available. Great place to spend weekends and watch sunset. the museum has a lot of taxidermy stuff of owls, bears, bison, deer, cougar, foxes and so on.
Entry tickets for two is about $21 dollars if you are not a member. It is worth it.

Nice trails to get there and interesting to see the cross. Not really great views from there as it is set back in the trees, but if you are climbing up to the top of Mont Royal, it is worth the walk to see it.

Fantastic place to visit especially in the fall. So pretty and there are many bridges which offer spectacular views. Parking can be an issue since it does fill up in the afternoons and on weekends but we've always managed to find somewhere. We find the best route is following the signs to "Aspen" all the way to the stairs and making our way back after that. It takes about an hour to do that but we do stop to enjoy the views.
The trails here don't allow bikes and it's an on leash only park.

Birding and breakfast was wonderful. Hour long walk in the marshes, with a very knowledgeable naturalist pointing out birds and then a lovely hot breakfast in the cafeteria.

Wonderful experience visiting this place. It was an easy trail to see the waterfalls and about 60 steps to go down to see the cave. Beautiful falls with a nice view of mountains in the background.

Lovely visit. Great staff and beautiful trails. They have more events than I was aware of, check out their website.
Their trails were very well groomed. We were able to easily walk with a stroller.

Went to visit my son Brandon. He has rented a a spot for a Time. I am so impressed with its abilities and how clean the park is. The little village of Devon has all the amenities. Great location. I would recommend this part to anyone.

I didn’t get the chance to camp here because I got in a small accident on my way over — I called to let the campground know, expecting to pay the full reservation fee + cancellation (which I would have completely understood with a last-minute cancellation, especially given that this weekend is a busy vintage fibreglass camper rally event). The employee I was speaking with, Alyssa, was so understanding, proactive, and truly went above and beyond by speaking with her manager and arranging for me to receive a refund for the reservation! I ended up only having to pay the $40 cancellation fee, which was such a wonderful surprise. Thank you, Alyssa! I was having a very hard day, and you truly made it so much brighter.
Sad that I didn’t get to stay this weekend, but I will *definitely* be coming back when my trailer is ready!! Amazing customer service!

One of the best place to visit while you are in Jasper.
Lot of parking space
One star could be more if there is water ruining wash rooms.
Everything was awesome, very well maintained.
Lot of informative boards around the fall.
At least spend there more than one hour.

Beautiful place.
It has racoons nearby the cross, around the bus stop.

Had a really fun time with my husband here. The tour was fun with the ability to use binoculars. I also really loved going canoeing 🛶. Also, the cafeteria had very good food and had gluten free options for me too which I appreciated.

Pretty campground for RVs, nice walk by the river and nature trails (bring bug spray). Reasonable cost. Efficiently run. Clean sites. Nice for seniors, quiet individuals and couples or families with small well-behaved children. While I appreciate a well-ordered campground and am quiet myself, I found the heavy emphasis on rules and constant double checking by email prior to arrival that I intend to follow them a little unusual. It makes me wonder if they've had problems in the past.

This is a nice stop for all levels! The falls are right near parking with many options of viewing. For those who wosh to do more hiking there is more trails to take.
Easy for families with young kids too.

Went on a nice little hike here with a buddy and was really impressed! It's like you're not in the city anymore, the sound of cars and such vanishes after you're in. There are a bunch of mini trails that branch off of the main ones, so you can go and adventure far here. Just don't forget where you parked.

Excellent place to experience trail walking and biking. Bison viewing so close to the city is awesome. The animals and arts in the museum are so lively. The flooding boardwalk trail is so nice.

Amazing, this is a superb 👏 campground. We stopped for 2 nights. Very clean, the grounds were kept up immaculate. So much to do 3 parks for kids, walking trails, located next to the river for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, etc. Open areas for baseball ⚾️ soccer ⚽️. Beautiful trees and surroundings.

This is the destination of our family annual camping. Love the proximity to the riverbank. Multiple playgrounds are a plus for family with kids. The staff there are super friendly. Tho we only go there twice a year, they remember us next year.

Beautiful area. Very busy with people almost all the time. The mist from the waterfall itself is so nice and cold. It’s a small little walk around, perfect for stretching out the legs and seeing a beautiful sight.

I loved seeing the Bison!
The trail was nice, easy and accesible. The trail provided nice information about bison and the indigenous people.

The other reviews must be the RV Luxury Glamping group. My stay in a tent was awful. The site was just dirt (No grass. Fun when it rained!), no level spot, no toilets, no showers, the public has full access to your site (which raises security concerns) and quiet time is posted as 11 pm to 7 am along with “We do not rely on complaints, we monitor.” As the clock turned past midnight, I had to ask the group next door if they would please keep it down. I did escape for a nice dinner at the golf club, however. I would have been better off stealth camping. The site would have been level, quiet and I would still have my $30. In summary, it seems if you have an RV this is a good place. Not so much if you camp.

Went on the north side of the trail(close to Sterling Lyon Parkway) and it’s a pretty solid trail. Seems like it’s mainly used for bikes since that’s all I saw but it’s a good walking trail too. Didn’t visit the rest of FortWhyte Alive but definitely will in the future.

If you driving the Icefields parkway this is the falls you can't miss. Great pathways, a few stairs down takes you through what I assume is the old water path and pool which is very cool.
Of course the falls are also nice with multiple view points.
If you go down to the river you may get to see some white water rafters take to the water!
Very cool place to visit!

This was a hike with a very high Return on Investment (ROI)😊 In other words, we were treated to really excellent views of the water and canyons with very little effort.
The force of the water and the canyons it has sculpted are mesmerizing. I highly recommend this hike. It is suited to people with all fitness levels. The coffee shop at the end of the hike is also great.
This hike has great views in the summer but it is even more beautiful in the winter. We did this hike in the summer but saw pictures of the hike in the winter. We will see definitely need back in the winter.

My first time there recently. And wow it's just ever a beautiful place. Very close to Edmonton if you want to escape to the country and yet be close to the city with beautiful surroundings. This is a wonderful place to go.
It's so nice. It completely caught me off guard.

Had so much fun! Lots of activities to do like kayaking, paddle boats, biking, etc. There’s also a cafe inside and the staffs were really accomodating. This is the perfect getaway within the city.

The stalls, amenities, etc were all decent. Location is really nice. Great play grounds, field for Frisbee, hiking trail, all awesome.
The service staff tending to the facilities... the lady had BOTH hands on her phone while driving the quad, looking down at her phone. She could have easily run over any dog or kid, as her face was BURRIED in her phone... again NO HANDS ON THE STEERING WHEEL. After seeing that I didn't feel as safe to walk around.

Visited here in the winter to try out snowshoeing. We rented from them and also brought our own snowshoes. It was fun going on their trails and on the frozen-over ponds and lakes. We even encountered a couple of deer in their forest trail. After snowshoeing we spent time on theit toboggan run. They have large toboggans on-site and these are free to use once you are already in the park. Of course, it's always nice seeing the bison enclosure. They also have a shop, cafe and a small museum.

Nice trail to bike on

Brenden nailed it, great tour. Was with a grade 3 group and he kept all of us entertained and very educational. Great job 👍

Nice and peaceful place. The admission fee is $10 per adult for access to the exhibit and the observation deck but you can walk around the wetland without paying the admission. The cafe also serves decent food.

Great trail, great climb and amazing views of the CRD

This is an awesome trail to walk, run, bike and scooter on!
I love travelling from the Blue Quill area all the way to the west end on this trail.
Please be aware at the Whitemud Creek Bridge #247 section of this trail, its very steep. its fine if you are walking down but ascending to either side can be very difficult for some people.
Aside from that you can get direct access to the Terwillegar Dog Park if you take this to the Henday, its amazing!
I'm so glad Edmonton has this trail for all its residents to use. :)

I found this trail a few years back and yesterday (Feb 4th 2023) I revisited and had a wonderful experience! People were genuinely friendly and it brought back many good memories for me. Going through the Ravine is always fantastic very steep! I wish that the ice/snowpack was worked on a little better, but in all, a wonderful hike. :)

Nice walk, no difficult to reach. I’ve been there during winter and autumn seasons and both are beautiful. The cross is basically the summit of the walk.

First time here just in walking shoes. Quite the workout going up and down the snowy paths. Careful of slipping on loose stones and wet leaf accumulation. Overall however, awsome views and great workout. Used AllTrails app to navigate which was a huge help.

Love this trail for a quick family walk. Lots of people using it but everyone even the dog walkers are friendly and respectful. Today we saw chickadees who ate out of our hands (bring black Niger sunflower seeds for them), nuthatches, squirrels and mice. We also found a porcupine quill. It was a great walk.

Amazing walk, beautiful in fall

Oak Hammok Marsh is a wonderful place to visit and interact with. Always lots to do and lots to see. All the staff are happy and helpful. The Cafe is limited but tasty and a nice added bonus. There is a lovely gift shop with a lot to look at. I love the volunteer recipe book I purchased. The building itself is fascinating and quite the experience. The trails are lovely and nicely maintained. Don’t hesitate, just go!

Incredible park. So peaceful

Limited parking but great walking trails

Fantastic trail to walk your dog, or take a bike ride.

rigorous and at times challenging . Wear supportive shoes! Such breathtaking views

Great mini hike for you and your pups! Will return often. Parking may be limited at this location but there's a lot of parking spots available nearby on the grounds.

Awesome rigorous trail. Starts flat and gets steep at the top

One of the best trail systems in the city. You can spend the entire day there and still not get bored. It takes you as far south as Anthony Henday by McTaggart. It takes you as far north as North Saskatchewan River by Rainbow Valley and Fox Drive, and then connect to the rest of the River Valley system and could reach as far as Hermitage Park in the northeast.
Within the Whitemud Creek system, you will experience a variety of geographic features. There are nice bridges. There are spots you can stop and observe wildlife. There are spots where you can get down to the creek.

Free parking, near the river and bridge to esses the Sunnybrook park

Whitemud ravine has great trails and bridges crossing the creek. A very peaceful walk through the trees and if you have sunflower seeds the birds will take them from your hand. Lots of squirrels and chipmunks running through the paths and trees. Our 2 yr old grandson loves to hike the trails.

This area has recently received a face lift. There are no longer any stairs here. There is now a wonderful raised bridge/boardwalk that gives great views of Whitemud creek ravine. I definitely recommend coming here for for relaxing stroll 🚶🏻 through the woods. The trail is wide and easy to walk. There are no washroom facilities along the trail system.

Good side trails

Its steep at first but the views are amazing and continue to scafe hill after stewart mountain

Great parking spot for the Don Valley mountain bike trails

A set of stairs that is steep, and not stroller friendly in Whitemud Creek Ravine South that we take family hikes on. The view from the top of the stairs are beautiful. The small boardwalk at the bottom is in dire need of repairs.
It looks as though this whole area is scheduled for renovations and the stairs and boardwalk may be eliminated and a big bridge added.

I went when no one was around (dusk on an icy winter weekday), and it was so peaceful up there, I got some great pics! If you're into monuments, this one's scale may surprise you up close (you can walk through the base of the cross).
