Reviews

I came around 18h30 and got table after told that have to wait 1 hour but actually we have to wait more than 1.30 hour. We order chicken drumstick and Chinese sause only no salty fish but when the pot came already salty fish we know gonna salty but the pot too salty and bottom rice over cook that make the pot taste too bitter & salty. Normally the rice at bottom supposed to brown & crunchy instead overcook black as hell by the way the pot not drumstick chicken as I have order. Really disappointed

One of the best claypot chicken rice in town, price also reasonable for the portion u be getting. But one thing, the drink from the kopitiam was crazy expensive. I ordered cincau kosong and it cost me RM3.50. Better don't order anything to drink.

We usually drive past this super packed place situated opposite Sek Yuen restaurant but never really tried cos parking here is a nightmare. Finally came and managed to get both parking space and seat cos we arrived early.
Ordered one big and one small claypot with vegetables and soup. Taste wise good but really nothing spectacular. Compared to our usual claypot rice place, there were less pieces of chicken but the meat here is juicier. The flavour of this is less intense (again comparatively) and I don't feel thirsty after thus I guess less salt or MSG.
The soup was a bit of a disappointment cos our usual place serves double boiled soup and this was like any other soup they have at a chap fan (ie economy rice) stall.
Vegetables no comment cos same-same.

This restaurant in Pudu is touted to serve very good Claypot Chicken Rice cooked over charcoal fires, comparable in many ways to the Bib Gourmand place in the same area, including long queue and long waits. I beg to differ.
First of all, the long queues at eateries must be expected, especially if the value proposition is good. Affordable, good tasting, unique, convenient….take your pick. We just have to manage our own timing. And with eateries that cook your order from scratch, you have to allow more waiting time.
I arrived at 4.37pm in the evening and there was no queue to speak of. As they were already cooking several pot of rice, I got my rice served at 4.41pm.
Secondly, at RM16 including the addition of Mui Xiong Salted Fish, this is cheaper and the portion is by no means smaller. And the amount of salted fish is a lot more.
The other place has air condition so it’s more comfortable. This place is more old style coffee shop lot.
Food wise, I must say it’s one of the best Claypot Chicken Rice I have eaten in the region. Thoroughly cooked rice and meat. Check. Tender chicken and tasty Chinese sausage. Check. Umami and saltiness from the Mui Xiong salted fish. Check. Dark sauce to add flavour to rice. Check. Slightly burnt crust at edge of pot. Check.
Pro-tip. Don’t be too eager to stir the rice or at least don’t scrap the edges of the pot. Allow the rice to remain in contact with the pot to get the perfect burnt crust.
By the time I left just past 5, the place was filled to the brim and the waiting times definitely would have been more than 45 minutes. In conclusion, if I have to wait equally long for great tasting Claypot rice, I’ll pick 168.

Imagine nostalgia, authentic, old-school taste cooked from scratch on order by the old sifu chef. The salted fish add on is a must for the ultimate umami. Initially thought that the soup was a tad blend but after eating the rice and pairing it, it is just a superb combination. Expect a min of 20mins cook time dependent on crowd. Highly recommended!

A spot you can't miss when you’re in Kuala Lumpur. Delicious rice and the chicken was tender. Since everything is made freshly, you have to be patient for your meal to be ready

Very good claypot chicken rice.
Prompt, friendly service.
The boss personally attends to the preparation, so quality control is assured.
Ordered a large takeaway serving for 2 pax with salted fish (RM2 extra) for total of RM26, no service charge. Generous serving.
Not conducive for dining-in as most tables are placed outside the coffeeshop, beside a main road with heavy traffic.

First visit here. Pleasantly surprised. A large sitting area, not crowded. Part covered, part open-air. Servers polite and drinks were not as expensive as Haven food centre nearby. Ampra juice was good. Truffle pizza, koay teow thng, and satay were excellent. Hokkien mee very good. Wantan mee acceptable

Always take-away char keoy teow and fried rice. CKT was ok but fried rice have almost non existence ingredients in there except few pieces of peas, tiny bits of char siew and prawn. Very stingy with sambal chilli. Did not give and have to request. When ask for more only give another one even though I bought 2 big packets of fried rice. Even a packet of chilli is so little, a spoonful only 🙄

Been eating the pizza here every week for the past year. Family loves it and the flavour and quality is great. Highly recommended

This food court is our current favourite. One of a kind food court that still serves alot of local food choices such as duck soup noodle, sotong kangkung, sotong bakar, western food, pasembur, xiang long bao, kuey teow thng and etc.
Highly recommended is kuey teow thng, truffle mushroom pizza, and their juices like ambra and lime. The kuey teow thng is simply delicious with crispy pork lard.
The pizza crust is perfectly thin and full of cheese and mushrooms with parmesan and rocket leaves. Simply satisfying. They do provide plastic gloves for hygienic purpose.
The braised chicken feet is also quite good.
Char kuey teow is below average as it tasted like economy char kuey teow. Lack of the authentic ckt taste and is salty.
Prices here considered quite affordable and overall taste better in this area compared to the other nearby Viva Local Food Haven.
Tables and chairs here no doubt can be abit shabby and old.
Parking could be a little limited behind and beside the food court and illegally in front of the place.

One of the usual kopitiam for factory workers, a good variety of hawker foods, recommended is the Wonton mee.. still good after a these years..

I had my dinner here at 6pm managed to find a table and food served within 10mins.
Typical street hawker with limited seats and crowded walking street. I walked by around 8pm earlier seeing diners walking shoulder to shoulder and vehicles passing very VERY very closely.
Sweaty, rushing, people queueing for food and tables, smoky from the deep-frying and vehicles passing by, not something I can manage as well as the younger self. Good thing is, most of them accept e-wallet payment, save the hassle of looking for change.
I had small wantan mee, juice, char keuy teow, fried oyster. I left quickly after that to give the table for the next diner.
No dining experience really overall, just to ‘check the box’. I do not enjoy eating there.

Wonton mee is soooo goooooood!
Only thing u need to do is 1 should get a seat asap and another should get on a queue for order and take food.

This Kopitiam offered a variety of Penang local foods including prawn sauce chee chiung fun, and char kuey teow (not attached in photo).
Kuey Chap is quite unique to eat, served with deboned pork throttle.

This is a very f
Popular Claypot place. Do not come of you are not willing to wait for 1 hour
The trick is to go to the store, have your order taken. Then go walk around the 为食街 and surrounding area and return to the store >1 hour later to wait for your turn
The chicken is really juicy and mildly marinated. The sausage is not too fatty. The salted egg adds to the flavour. The vegetables is cooked to perfection
A must try. I give 6 stars rating

If you are hungry and looking for a quick meal at Chulia street, I recommend the wantan mee as it is delicious, affordable and the large portion is quite filling. However, eating by the road side with so many cars passing by may not be good idea. I will not return unless there is no other option.

Hawker center famous for its chee cheong but this time we got wantan mee and char kway teow. Wantan mee was quite good, the noodles were springy, soft and chewy. The wantans were alright but the sauce was amazing! Flavourful but not overly salty and oily. Char kway teow was also good with some wok hey. Price was very good (4-5RM per portion). Place was a bit cramped and noisy during lunchtime but that's part of the hawker experience. Will come back for the chee cheong fun when it opens!

The usual kopitiam food but the outlook is dated. Need deep spring clean & stalls display. Has wide selection of dishes for chup fun aka Econ rice. The others stalls offering are pretty much std.

Kong Heng, Ipoh
Situated in the heart of Ipoh Old Town, this Kopitiam is a storied establishment with a history that traces back to the heights of Perak’s tin mining boom in the late nineteenth century. Renowned for its unique satay that includes internal organs and the beloved Ipoh Hor Fun, the kopitiam has long been a culinary landmark. Its dishes evoke the nostalgic taste of old Ipoh, though some locals from Ipoh consider it overrated. As someone not originally from Ipoh, my perspective is coloured by a sense of nostalgia.
Right next to the Kopitiam is Thien Chun, a restaurant rumoured to be under the same ownership. Adding to the charm of the location is Concubine Lane, a well-known historical site, situated directly in front of the shop. Visitors should note that this area is often bustling, and parking can be a challenge.
Reflecting on the culinary offerings here, I must admit that they do not quite match the rich flavours I recall from years ago. There are other spots in Ipoh where the food might meet or even surpass the standards of what I ‘ve tasted here. However, in moments like today, where nostalgia tugs at my heartstrings, I find myself drawn to this place for reason beyond taste. It’s a journey down memory lane, a chance to relive cherished moments and savour the sweetness of memories. More than the perfect flavour, we sometimes crave the flavours of the past, which are connected with our recollections.

Nice location with the rustic hotel behind (Belakang Kong Heng by Dreamscape). Kaisi horfun was not great. Asked for less noodle and extra chicken, and there were a few extra strips. Didn’t confirm what I wanted. Too touristy is my impression. Won’t be going back

炒粉有味道香味👍🏻

Variety of foods to choose over here. What you want, what they have over here.
‼️❗Each area are 'governed' by respective drinks shop. ‼️❗ Beware Some might force you to order minimum 1drink per person. Watch where you sit 😅
Big fan ontop with good ventilation.
Cleanliness around the food court have much improvement to be made.
Not all foods are equally nice. Some other place might taste much better.
Morning with quick grab breakfast.
Parking is a challenge during peak hour.

The Famous Coffee Shop with a variety of must-try food survived till today. Old fashioned menu hang on the walls, Marble tables with wooden chairs keeps with the traditional look. Went for the Chee Cheong Fun but told stall now ONLY opens Fri, Sat and Sun.
Assam Laksa was disappointing. Watery fish broth, noodles seems all broken up (almost as tho it was cut up for a child), no prawn paste was offered for add in.
Popiah was just ok, used to be better.
Satay has a good BBQ taste, meat sticks so badly on the sticks (that one broke in the mouth upon trying to pull out the meat).
Overall best to go elsewhere for food if there is a chance

This place is merely meant for tourists or visitors to Penang. Kinda overrated place. All hawkers are very disorganized. You order you wait to take your own food. Food not cheap though. Ordering and queuing can be hell and waiting time can be quite frustrating. A very busy street and can be quite discomfort to dine here.

Loved the food! The service is quite confusing when you arrive as a tourist/traveler as there is no menu and you have to order to each stall individually. Otherwise it was delicious and very cheap ❤️

I am here just to appraise the Kueh Teow Th’ng stall, other than that I would not say much even the Chee Cheong Fun.
This stall of KTT serve instant cook noodle, kueh teow, yellow noodle, maggi, bihun.
A few type of soup base available but I today I would like to review on its milk-base soup. Hardly to get in Penang but I managed to found it here. Very well balanced soup, not too salty nor sweet. You can opt out the black pepper just to have to milk-base soup & taste definately delicious also.
Very kind seller and they can remember which condiments you dont prefer. Big portion with fair price. I notice the seller very meticulous when preparing my serving.
If you the kind that like intestine, they do have it as well and not smelly like others.

We tried so many different dishes! Char kway teow with duck and egg is delicious and only cost $8. Extremely busy so be patient. We also tried the fish ball soup $6 from next booth. The owner’s brother is so attentive looking after the people in queue. Then we order mango and papaya juice $7.5 from the booth next. One lady came to our table, and we ordered chicken wings from her. It costs $7 for 2 pieces. We really enjoyed it here.
Find a table and you can order different food around. Some they deliver to you.

The wanton mee is fantastic!! Must try! The texture of the noodle is very bouncy and light, the price is also super value for money, 6RM for 1 hearty bowl.
The curry noodle from a nearby stall is also great. Flavourful yet light broth, also 6RM a bowl 👍👍

Highly recommended for people that want to have a nice and interesting experience! Food was good even though not expensive 👍 only thing i didn't like is the cars driving through the street smells bad.

24/Nov/2023: A somewhat huge food court right next to Petronas Tanjong Tokong, with limited of parking spaces reserved for customers. Plenty of seats despite a Friday evening, and plenty of choices to choose from.
If you ask for recommendations, these are the must-try's:-
• Truffle Oil Mushroom Pizza 🍕 (RM24) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Darn, this to me is a hidden gem. I think the pizza is baked the good ol' way, using conventional oven. The dough was perfect (not too thin nor thick), and the truffle oil, parmesan cheese and sliced mushrooms combo made each bite so satisfying. Price was a bit steep, but I think worth the money. 🍕
• Oriental Chicken Chop 🐔 (RM13) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - It's not easy to find good Chicken Chop these days but this stall deserves mention. The fries were freshly fried, the coleslaw had perfect texture and the sauce really has the oomph to go with the perfectly fried Chicken cutlet.
• Mee Goreng Mamak 🍝 (RM7) & Pasembur (RM18) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️: I think this stall whips up a pretty good plate of fried noodles, Penang mamak-style. For Pasembur, select from assorted items such cucur udang (prawn fritters), cucur sayur (vegetable fritters), potato, sausages, cuttlefish, etc. They're mixed with slices of cucumbers and doused with their red, not-so-spicy sauce.
• Xiao Long Bao ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️: Reasonably-priced except the taste can match those served in huge restaurants.
OK lah:-
• Char Koay Teow (RM8) ⭐️⭐️⭐️: This was decent.

Traditional chicken meat ipoh koay teow soup. The soup is tasty and didn't taste like sugary sweet.
Also order the fat bean sprouts.. Nice.
Popiah is also delicious.
If available, get the pig Intestines satay from next door... very unique and delicious.
Take note: Toilet use most pay RM50cents.

Non-halal. Since awhile i didnt have this but its still wonderful to my tastebuds

Place was pack when i came here. I was told the chee cheong fun is different, to be honest i prefer iPoh chee cheong fun over this. Other food are just average nothing special

It's busy street market, table and vendors are on street and cars still come , so watch your feet, when you got table the waiters will come with menu you can order then pay when served. It's was nervous dinner that i don't feel comfortable and relaxing. Cost of food is over rate.same price or more compared with eat in restaurants ( local restaurants)

Came here to try the egg custard pudding, as we were already full. Loved the pudding, eggy taste with bouncy texture and pairs nicely with the sweet caramel.
This restaurant is always crowded, so be prepared to queue for tables. During afternoon this place can be quite hot, so an iced coffee is a must, haha.

Ok. Took Pan Mee. Nice

Food:
There are multiple stalls in the Kopitiam that serves a variety of hawker food such as Wantan Noddles , Hainanese Chicken Rice, Laksa, etc. My favourite dish is Char Kuey Teoh and Labak!
Service:
Overall, the service is good and staff are friendly, attentive and helpful.
Atmosphere:
Same as most local Kopitiams with no air conditioning and multi ceilings fans. Decent local Kopitiam decor (with no complaints 🤣)
Verdict:
Well, it is not the best kopitiam in town, but it is considerably good for “local standard”. Things to note: Try to avoid to peak hours as it is usually packed with factory workers or personnel especially lunchtime.

This place has been here for some time . They are famous with their Kai si hor fun . There are many stalls here . Chicken and char Siew rice , fried mee and rice , Popiah , prawn mee and pork noodles , rojak , sotong kangkung . You can also order food from the next door restaurant which name is Thien Chun . Everything you can order from there except the Kai si hor fun as Kong heng has its own stall selling the same stuff. So you are not allowed to order from other shop with the same food . The custard is nice . Originally famous from Thien Chun before anyone else selling in Ipoh .
Place here is always crowded no matter is weekdays or weekends . Only indoor seating with fans and parking here is super hard . As this is a tourist attraction and the famous concubine lane is just right in front of the shop . Then the Kong Heng square is just right behind the restaurant where you can shop for souvenirs, bags , clothings , food , accessories and local products here .

Variety food stall but with limited serving table. Must order beverage to avoid extra charge.
Char koey teow with 2 big prawn is not bad.
Wonton mee looks good.

Drop in for lunch and the cafe, was expecting crowded but it isn’t. Every time when I’m here there would only 2 stall I will order from. The Thai pork leg rice which is still as good but need improvement on the rice. It was dry and tasteless. Lucky the pork leg gravy able to compensate it.
The best of the chee cheong fun. Still as good, queue were long but they are fast paced in preparation. Still the best chee cheong fun in the island to me.
Don’t ever order the curry. My colleague regretted as it was serve in very small bowl and pricey too. Price was raise because of Penang food hype. Nothing to be shout off with the ingredients and soup.

Always the best prawn paste chee cheong fun since 15 years ago.
The pork knuckle rice is good too. This time also try nasi lemak, nice also

Food here is pretty good, quite packed and the space is pretty tight, which is my only complaint. Reasonably priced! Tried the wantan mee, the noodles tasted fresh and clean.

Always come here for their chicken rice and kopi peng. Cham peng and teh peng were good too. Coffee can be a little too sweet but can always ask them for less condensed milk. Chicken rice is awesome too. Only complain is it sold out usually around 1pm

Loved the Oriental Chicken Chop. Place was clean and no worries for seating availability. Lots of stalls selling all sorts of local food & international. Will definitely dine-in here again.

Char Kuey Teow is delicious but very small portion. I advice you to order large as default at RM8. Small is RM7 as picture underneath.

The Chee Cheong Fun is really nice, taste very smooth and delicious. Tried curry mee and kuew tiaw soup as well, also good.
Arrived around 9am, still got vacant tables but it was difficult to find parking. This place is crowded with people because morning market is in front of the kopitiam.

A local kopitiam that introduced by Grab car driver as a lot of other kopitiam are closed during my visit (PH)
Mediocre char kuey teow (RM7), nothing to shout about.
Milo peng was diluted and taste mostly like sugar but it’s priced higher (RM2.90) than other kopitiam.

Very old food court that needs some refurbishment, in my opinion. It's quite spacious, but not too many food choices are available. Past years tried few stalls, but food tasted below average. Went again today to try the claypot stall. Food tastes quite decent at a very reasonable price.

Good night hawker in the Fettes area in Tanjung Tokong for dinner. Always crowded, thus the beverage ordering service is always slow. The staffs can't cope with the number of tables available.
Other than that, the Shen Fu has few nice stalls. Pasembur, the western stall, where we order Fish and Chips are all tasty.

I stopped by for the Yong Tau Foo & noodles, but the YTF was not available. I ordered the mixed pork noodles and milk tea without sugar. I saw people taking away dry wanton mee with dumplings. The dumplings looked plump & juicy. So I ordered 5 pcs.
The mixed pork noodles was so so. Toppings were mainly minced meat, pork slices & 3 mini meatballs. RM 7.50 for a regular bowl and RM 8.50 for a large.
Milk tea was a disappointment. I heard the owners were of Hainan origin. The tea was flat, bitter and not smooth. RM 2.90 for a glass.
The dumplings or siu kow lacked texture, crunch and seasoning. The soup was ok. RM 1.80 per piece.
Service by the stall owners were ok but for the beverages, they don't seem to care if you order or not. The lady owner is always busy stacking plastic stools and arranging them. Gives the impression that she wants to close the coffee shop soon or that she is afraid of losing the stools...
This coffee shop is also a favourite hang out place for the Myanmar community. There is a guy who sells bowls of hot soup with rice, corn, etc. It is very popular, as most of the tables are full of empty blue plastic bowls with salt & pepper shakers beside it. I wonder what this dish is called.

Lots of variety of hawker food. Had hokkien lor cham thng, wan tan mee and lor bak set.
Love the lor bak and prawn fritters best. The lor bak is full of chunky pork and the prawn fritters is crispy with headless prawns. The tau kua is very fresh and tasty. The chilli sauce and lor went very well with the lor bak set. The cafe is not very packed if you avoid peak lunch hours. Very helpful owner will help you find available tables.

Here does have a lot of hawker stalls. But my latest visit, not a lot are open.
Here is one of the famous lunch spot for office workers near by beside sunshine markets.
However a bit disappointed with the drink seller for not being honest on the drinks menu. Ask for no sugar and sweet drink, the operator said no sugar, but served with sugar drink. Lazy to argue with the operator. Will not visiting again.
The most is take away the food but not the drinks.

Popular coffeeshop near Sunshine Square that serves a variety of nice hawker food such as its wantan mi, chicken rice, char koay teow, lam mi, lorbak & Penang Rd branch laksa. Usually packed with factory personnel during lunchtime, so best time to avoid crowd is to go before lunch hour.

Tasty bean sprout white chicken rice. You dont have to go to Ipoh for it when you can get the same for 1/4 of the price in Penang. While you are at it, make sure you also order the coffee shake, you will want to come back for more. This place is on my once or twice per month list.

The chicken rice here is truly DELICIOUS! I loved every single bit of it. The chicken is nicely steamed, not too strong of a flavour but just nice to go with the rice. The chili sauce is nice and pungent, and together with the chicken, it's so good. Also, the soup that they gave was so goooooood. It's not the ordinary cabbage soup, but instead they added more ingredients to make it extra flavourful.
Overall, definitely recommend this place to everyone😋

From morning to night, this place sell variety of Penang delicious hawker food here. Including "Chinese/Malay/Indian" style noodle, rice, cake cutlet fruits and drinks. Price is reasonable and seller attitude was kind too. Recommended place for everyone even tourist. Only environment cleanes need to keep improve.

Friendly chicken rice seller. The boiled chicken is juicy 🤤

Erm.. the variety is good but all run by non-locals and they don't really know how Penang Jawa Mee or Ipoh Dry Curry Noodle look or taste like. So turns out quite disappointing.

surprisingly very clean and airy for an authentic Hai Nan coffee shop. Deserved our support.

Many delicious cuisine u can enjoy here on morning &afternoon session.
全部的档位都是做早市和午市而已。

For those who like 白斩鸡 or 白切鸡 chicken rice, you have an option to come to this coffee shop where Wen Kee Chicken Rice is located. Recommend for people to come early, avoiding peak lunch hour. The mixed iced coffee and tea (“Cham Peng” in local Hokkien dialect) is a must-try. Parking space is quite limited so recommend car-pooling or taking e-hailing ride to this place.

Curry Mee is awesome and Chee Cheong Fun is still good just standard drop a bit. The Char Hor Fun is bad, like really bad, like disaster bad. The environment is like a typical kopitiam, packed, tight, hot and stuffy. Many food options here but not all are really worthy of authentic Penang hawker food flavor.

RM7 for a bowl of pork ball noodles (猪肉丸粉), small. Taste wise, it wasn’t bad at all. Noodles were a bit dry. I personally thought that the minced pork (that’s usually overlooked) was actually the best element of the dish. Worth a try if you’re around the area!

Very nice local Zi Char store... very warm service and the food is delicious.

Typical chinese coffee shop. Foods are taste ordinary

The fish dried noodle with fish ball, fish cake and fried Fu Chuk is nice and lots of sauce on it, seasoned with pepper powder. Definitely would order another bowl of it. Other selection of foods available including chicken rice, Nasi Lemak, curry noodle and minced meat noodle.

Nice coffe

The chicken rice shop serves a variety of dishes but their main attraction would still be the steam chicken which is cooked to perfection and the sauce makes the dish even more delicious. Remember to order their soya sauce pork or steam bean sprouts. All this would not be complete without an order of their coffee shake to wash it all down. Highly recommended place for a fulfilling lunch.

The pork ball noodles here is amazing! It is priced at 7RM for the small bowl and 8RM for the big bowl if I’m not wrong! The place does gets a little bit crowded in the morning for breakfast! It is a hawker center style place, you could get the other variety of food there as well such as fishball noodles and curry noodles! Overall there are many good choices of food there!

Simple kopitiam concept. It used to have air-conditioned indoor but that has been removed. Probably, it wasn't popular with the higher priced hawker food. The food prices now are usual hawker prices in Bangsar. Its popular for its own Sun Huat Kee pork ball noodles. Its fish paste noodle from teochew seafood stall is quite good. Ipoh shredded chicken noodle, and porridge are also acceptable for a hawker meal.

White chicken rice or keow tiao is nice

Only got 1 food stall at night. Food are quite good.

Best local Ice Coffee in town! Must try all their local favorite drinks and Steam/Bake Bread (we call it Roti), and of course they've got alot of local street foods here, like Hainan Chicken Rice, Ban Mee, Prawn Noodles & etc.
The environment is hot because they don't provide air-conditioning but very cheap in Price! If you're looking for simple lunch with good food, this is one of your best choice!
