I had a really good experience with my family. We came after lunch and stayed about 3 hours. The oil platform simulator is really the best part IMO. Children from 7 and above have a blast there. The museum is appealing for children and adults. Location is great. We bought online tickets. It was really not crowded.

It was one of the best museums I've ever visited throughout the world. My photos do not do this place justice. The maritime museum is incredibly thoughtful about incorporating the cultural and technical history of Rotterdam (and beyond) into its displays. This is a museum for adults and children alike.

Great museum with interesting exhibition from old times to nowadays. There are a lot of interesting interactions like helping to land a helicopter to an oil platform.
Also, there is a quite big library dedicated to maritime topic.
There were no line, and museum wasn’t crowded
I was thrilled to visit this museum: I checked the opening hours, any sort of update or news then when I entered th building I've been told by the very polite employee that the museum was indeed open but empty. Yes, empty. No exhibition at all and no updates or warnings of it. Quite annoying.

It is a nice museum that keeps all the commercial history of this country. The exhibition halls are spacious and have access to tours with wheelchairs and children. I like that it also has an area where children can interact and better understand the activities that take place in the port and can assume a role.

Wonderful museum, very educational with a wide variety of exhibits. We particularly loved the replica VOC ship that they have. This museum also has wonderful amenities for disabled guests, everything is accessible via lift, they have accessible toilets and even on the replica ship it is possible to access one of the decks via lift. It's also got a lovely gift shop and cafe. We had a wonderful afternoon here.

A very nice museum with an indoor and outdoor area. Once you enter the museum there is a big area in the middle where you can relax and have a coffee or start exploring the museum.

The indoor area features wings where one is mainly for kids with the Whale and Doris. Doris is a small indoor playground with ships and puzzles and more that kids can play with. A good place to take the kid to in between the exhibitions to make sure she doesn’t get bored.
The outdoor area features three ships where the VOC ship is definitely the highlight. Our 3yo did not get bored while walking around so we were happy bout that.

The temporary exhibition Food for Thought we had to skip through since it’s definitely not 3yo appropriate.

The best family/kids friendly museum in Rotterdam🙌🏻
💯 educative, fun, interactive!
So much to see and do, inside as well as outside.
Perfect for a rainy day, as well as for a one with a good weather.
On the 2D floor is a real kinder paradijs! 😁😁👌🏻👌🏻with a thought of parents too: a coffee pitstop

Highly recommend.

History is condensed in Museums, and museums stand as witness for the next generations.
Numerous years worth of knowledge can be seen in few hours.

I loved the experience especially when in company with your kids.

Worth the visit and good value addition to the Rotterdam’s trip itinerary.

Thanks to the supportive working teams of the museum.

Nice pastime place to learn and see interesting artefacts or monuments of maritime heritage. Lifelike boats and exhibits of many type of exploration history on the sea. A good stop to get to know more about Rotterdam
Beautiful experience. Very interesting. The ship outside Is very funny in particolar for young people. In the last floor there was a beautiful exposition on the food that i really appreciated. The Museum Is a bit confusing since some room are empty and sometimes Is difficult to understand the correct direction you have to take to enter in the "correct room". Very recommended!

Very interesting experience, building is amazing by itself. The large replica ship is fully accessible and many interesting artworks inside. Definitely worth a visit.
Great collection of paintings, weapons, and other artifacts. Audiotour was very good and easy to use. The ship is very kid friendly. Would be great for groups. Cafe is also very reasonably.
Amazing experience for adults or children. Super interesting stories, great temporary exhibitons and the chance to see the royal boat and visit the real replica of the Amsterdam boat which sank a long time ago in Texel. I can’t recommend more :)
Very interesting place, 3 floor.
Beautiful hall with panoramic roof .
Cute cafe in the hall of the building.
A lot of things about ships and boats from hundreds of years.
And of course, a separate place of art is the big old boat outside of the building..
My recommendations to visit 👍
Among the most beautiful buildings in Amsterdam is certainly The National Maritime Museum, near the Nemo Museum. A beautiful ship is anchored in front of the museum. Just like the building itself, which is very beautiful, the ship is also a real work of art. During the time we were in Amsterdam, records for visitors to this museum were falling.
The building and location of the museum are stunning. Architecturally wise I really enjoyed the museum, the inside court is beautiful with the dome.
However the exhibitions are quite small, we visited maybe 4 small rooms that were very nice and interesting but not enough… the cost of the ticket is 17,5 EUR, I would have expect to see more rooms with far more information. It’s a pity and we were disappointed.
You can visit the big ship outside which is one of the best part for me, however there was no audio for adults available. We had higher expectations for this museum, I would suggest checking website to see what is currently displayed and asking for directions to find the rooms size the building is huge a with many stair cases but the directions of the visits is not very well explained.
Library and shop are very nice.
I would recommend to get a discount card that includes this museum and visiting on a sunny day as they have a beautiful outside deck with long chairs to have a nice break after the visit.
It is a fantastic museum and a fine example of maritime heritage preservation. I suggest this museum on a rainy day as it's mostly indoors and takes several hours.

The outdoor ship is great to explore and gives a glimpse of life back then. The indoor exhibits are detailed, well-kept, and informative. I especially like the 'curiosity' section. You can get a free audio guide.

The building itself is cool to explore, and there is a nice cafe, locker, and toilets.

If I remember entry, it was around 10 euros.
Love this place... if you are a fan of nautical stuff plan at least 4... preferably 6 hours for the visit. Cool thing is that your ticket is valid for a whole day - they issue an entry bracelet and visitors can leave the museum to have some food and come back. Highly reccomend.
We went here because someone in our group loves ships, navy, and water. By the end we all loved this museum. What a pleasant experience the exceeded our expectations. The ship outside was a little challenging for the elderly person in our group because of the walking up and down the stairs. The rest of the museum was well done for handicap access. Very interesting looking at the maps, sextants, and ship decorations.
The museum is not worth visiting. The ticket cost 8 euro which is very high compare to their very few exhibits. Northern Maritime Museum doesn't have any maritime experience. Outside they kept one ship which you can see before entering into the museum.Groningen has many more attractions to see except the museum.
Not recommended for the foreign tourist. The lady staff was nice.
Wondrous. Good for every ship lover. A must see!
Wunderschön dort mit dem Schiff un dem Hafen
Amazing, must visit museum. There is so much information about slavery and I was moved by the collection and stories. More and more people should visit this, it's worth it.
One of the most beautiful buildings in Groningen. This is by far my favourite museum. Today I got to share this experience with my son and wife. Little narrow staircases, low ceiling, and all the characteristics what history could give you as well as the great service of the people that work there. A great representation of the Dutch and Groninger naval history.
Way larger than expected. Interesting collection, wide variety of models and artifacts. If you are a collector this place it great. If you're interested in more context you might be missing a little. All in all very entertaining and detail oriented.
Toll gemacht viel Input freundliches Personal
Ein sehr schönes Ausflugsziel mit vielen Sehenswürdigkeiten! 5*
Having been to the Amsterdam scheepvaart museum this one is a bit disappointing.
The staff was really friendly and the location is really nice. The building is a historic building with authentic beams.
Mind your head!
However if you are here in Groningen it is worth the visit!
Went sailing with the scouts brilliant place.
The halve Maan tour is nice and enough parking spaces, wonderfull view and some intersting things
Kleines, mit viel Hingabe zur früheren Stadtgeschichte gestaltetes Museum (kostenfrei). Kostenpflichtiger Nachbau eines früheren Handelsschiffes inkl. Audio guide.
A must if you want to know more about ditch history. Great with kids !
Beautiful ships, currently hosting "De halve maan", a ship that was used to explore the Americas.
Do you Like Boats Ships and marine culture 😇🌟 This cool museum has it🤗all about the Dutch Maritime History 🌞Fun and interesting exhibitions, and loads of items to touch and explore 🎉
And it's all set in one of the oldest buildings in Groningen 😎 They also have other stuff then boats😇I highly recommend you to go here👌🏼😋
