Wonderful museum, very educational with a wide variety of exhibits. We particularly loved the replica VOC ship that they have. This museum also has wonderful amenities for disabled guests, everything is accessible via lift, they have accessible toilets and even on the replica ship it is possible to access one of the decks via lift. It's also got a lovely gift shop and cafe. We had a wonderful afternoon here.

A must visit museum with the kids with lots of prestige and history behind it. There is a lot to play and enjoy for the kids. The free photo clicked during Christmas time was the perfect gift for the family.

A very nice museum with an indoor and outdoor area. Once you enter the museum there is a big area in the middle where you can relax and have a coffee or start exploring the museum.

The indoor area features wings where one is mainly for kids with the Whale and Doris. Doris is a small indoor playground with ships and puzzles and more that kids can play with. A good place to take the kid to in between the exhibitions to make sure she doesn’t get bored.
The outdoor area features three ships where the VOC ship is definitely the highlight. Our 3yo did not get bored while walking around so we were happy bout that.

The temporary exhibition Food for Thought we had to skip through since it’s definitely not 3yo appropriate.

Great museum. We were there during the winter station, which meant it was very busy, but everyone seemed to have lots of fun.

We went to the winter wonderland here and had the best time. Activities included ice skating, a carousel and a family photo! There was also a show on outside. We enjoyed the fresh hot donuts and toasting our own marshmallows.
Highly recommend this place. Staff were friendly too.

I highly recommend seeing this museum if you come to Utrecht. We decided to pay a visit as the weather wasn't great and we weren't disappointed at all. It's huge inside with so much to see and do. Super interactive activities for the children and lots facts to be learned. They installed a winter station as it's Christmas so it's a bonus. There were ice rink and eat and drink places. We came after 3pm so only 10 Euro per head to be paid as a discounted fare (but you have to reserve your place online in advance during festive season). Both adults and children would thoroughly enjoy it.

We loved it. The winter station was awesome and there were a lot of activities for kids. The skating rink is awesome with enough space for kids and adults. The collection of trains is great with some very unique carriages. Many places to eat. Easily accessible. No nearby bus stop but there is a sprinter from Utrecht Centraal which runs every hour.

The Van Gogh in Drenthe exhibit (temporary) is absolutely wonderful. It's immersive and informative. A really fascinating look at his early work and development. (Dec 2023)

We visited later in the day ~4pm. Facilities (shop, lockers, etc) are also modern and attractive. We're definitely going back to check out the permanent collection.
Beautiful experience. Very interesting. The ship outside Is very funny in particolar for young people. In the last floor there was a beautiful exposition on the food that i really appreciated. The Museum Is a bit confusing since some room are empty and sometimes Is difficult to understand the correct direction you have to take to enter in the "correct room". Very recommended!

Very interesting experience, building is amazing by itself. The large replica ship is fully accessible and many interesting artworks inside. Definitely worth a visit.
Great collection of paintings, weapons, and other artifacts. Audiotour was very good and easy to use. The ship is very kid friendly. Would be great for groups. Cafe is also very reasonably.
Amazing experience for adults or children. Super interesting stories, great temporary exhibitons and the chance to see the royal boat and visit the real replica of the Amsterdam boat which sank a long time ago in Texel. I can’t recommend more :)
Great museum. A lot of nostalgia

Great museum inside an Ashkenazi synagogue. Awesome exhibits and really well presented.
Great exhibition on Van Gogh’s time spent in the probince of Drenthe.
Went here with the social deal discount. Not too big, not too small. Fun to make the trip down memory lane. Friendly staff. The discovery tour for kids with the mice is a bit messy. Mice are missing, many objects when found do not have the answer to the question to be found anywhere. Idea is nice though. Hope they will fix it. The Lego exhibition is nice to see. Kids love to build something with Lego and get rewarded with a true Lego buildmaster diploma. Free parking at the Nieuwe Wal is nice. Only a short 15 minute walk from there to the museum or you can take the free shuttle that departs every 20 minutes. Against what their website states, do not call them at the 06 number mentioned on their website to inquire for the shuttle as that will lead to a guy getting cranky at you for calling him. The shuttle will keep going back and forth. No need to call. Worth visiting!
Very interesting place, 3 floor.
Beautiful hall with panoramic roof .
Cute cafe in the hall of the building.
A lot of things about ships and boats from hundreds of years.
And of course, a separate place of art is the big old boat outside of the building..
My recommendations to visit 👍
Among the most beautiful buildings in Amsterdam is certainly The National Maritime Museum, near the Nemo Museum. A beautiful ship is anchored in front of the museum. Just like the building itself, which is very beautiful, the ship is also a real work of art. During the time we were in Amsterdam, records for visitors to this museum were falling.
The building and location of the museum are stunning. Architecturally wise I really enjoyed the museum, the inside court is beautiful with the dome.
However the exhibitions are quite small, we visited maybe 4 small rooms that were very nice and interesting but not enough… the cost of the ticket is 17,5 EUR, I would have expect to see more rooms with far more information. It’s a pity and we were disappointed.
You can visit the big ship outside which is one of the best part for me, however there was no audio for adults available. We had higher expectations for this museum, I would suggest checking website to see what is currently displayed and asking for directions to find the rooms size the building is huge a with many stair cases but the directions of the visits is not very well explained.
Library and shop are very nice.
I would recommend to get a discount card that includes this museum and visiting on a sunny day as they have a beautiful outside deck with long chairs to have a nice break after the visit.

Awesome museum with train theme. They have old trains which we can get on and take a look, and many participation opportunities for the kids.
I will explore more parts on the next visit 😃 the museum is really big so it might take long time to explore all the parts
Wide collection of items on display. Worth visiting if you are into these historical eras. The building and display are nice. Staffs are very friendly as well!

Here are some things I thought would be nice for improvements:
1. The audio guide is available, but the guide itself to activate your audio guide device is on the left side of the box/booth. Would be clearer if this is on the front of it where people can clearly see it. Although the reception would explain it to you, I still find this would be more useful.

2. Though you can access the audio guide by scanning a bardcode on your phone, the audio guide devices can give guides to more items than the barcode. Making the items on the scanned audio guide just as many as the regular audio guide would be nice.

3. Some parts of the exhibits are Dutch only. Would be nice to have it in English.

4. The direction of where to go in the exhibits is sometimes unclear. On my visit, I ended up starting by going to the end of the exhibit first than the beginning in some areas. A clear direction of walking with be nice, but otherwise perhaps it’s just my own issue 😅.
It is a fantastic museum and a fine example of maritime heritage preservation. I suggest this museum on a rainy day as it's mostly indoors and takes several hours.

The outdoor ship is great to explore and gives a glimpse of life back then. The indoor exhibits are detailed, well-kept, and informative. I especially like the 'curiosity' section. You can get a free audio guide.

The building itself is cool to explore, and there is a nice cafe, locker, and toilets.

If I remember entry, it was around 10 euros.
Amazing. An unexpectedly rich museum in Egyptian, Roman, Greek and Netherlands antiques. Well organised and very friendly. Compliments also to security team that helped to recover a lost phone. A hidden gem in Leiden, worth visit to the city just for the museum.
Love this place... if you are a fan of nautical stuff plan at least 4... preferably 6 hours for the visit. Cool thing is that your ticket is valid for a whole day - they issue an entry bracelet and visitors can leave the museum to have some food and come back. Highly reccomend.

Loved the experience. A great experience and ticket price is rewasonable. Its a big area with trains of different eras, great experience sections of old mines/workshops, time travel and lab. It has wide variety of cafes and sitting space. Keep time margin of minimu 3 hours to explore fully inside and also wear comfy shoes so that you can enjoy easily. Simply beautiful and informative experience. Highly recommended for people who love history, want to explore evolution and children education.

Was really nice historical exhibit
but in the end when I saw this I got really shocked, they put out a grave marker on display !! To show that the poor ppl used wooden graves markers.
A grave marker should stay in cemetery even if we don't know the exact original location, he deserves a memorial in the cemetery,
this was done all over Europe with all gravestones the natzis have thrown down, they ware replaced somewhere in the cemetery,
imagine you walk in and you see your grandfather's gravestone in a museum or yours in a few hundred years just because we don't know who are the grandchildren of this poor Jew we don't need to give him his deserved respect? I don't even understand how the government is allowing this shame hope they will release this memorial to it's original place soon

Definitely worth a visit on a rainy day, the Lego exhibition was great for visitors of all ages. Some displays of old toys/books lacking commentary, including on some racist depictions of minorities which was very disappointing.
Great atmosphere of the past years of youth. A very large number of exhibits. Large LEGO exhibition with interesting sets from different years. Nice and helpful staff communicating in English.
We went here because someone in our group loves ships, navy, and water. By the end we all loved this museum. What a pleasant experience the exceeded our expectations. The ship outside was a little challenging for the elderly person in our group because of the walking up and down the stairs. The rest of the museum was well done for handicap access. Very interesting looking at the maps, sextants, and ship decorations.

Nice museum about the history of the city of Amsterdam. The building of the museum is the same as the Hermitage of Amsterdam. There is a large amount of art from the last five centuries of Amsterdam and the important things that happened in the city. There seem to be several temporary exhibitions on the second floor, there was an exhibition about the slavery on the Dutch colonies shown with dolls. Also there is an exhibition about fabrics. The museum accepts museumcard. Lastly, the museum is not very touristic and some tourists might not appreachiate the museum.
Great museum about antiquities. The section about the history of Egypt is very interesting and has many interesting finds. There are a smaller section about Roman and Greek ancient history that are also very interesting. The top floor has a section about the findings in the Netherlands which is also great. The temproy exhibition about Kemet is quite different than the rest of the museum but shows the impact and inspiration that afro-americans got from Egypt. The description of the museum is good and tries to give some comments about what some afro-americans say is incorrect. There seems to be a bit of cultural appropriation by afro-american artists that make some incorrect claims. Overall, recommened to visit.

The Amsterdam Museum gives a brief and concise look at the history of the city through a timeline. It highlights the glory and achievements while still acknowledging the dark origins. It's a nice way to spend 1-2 hours, though not really if paying full price (thank God for museumkaart!)
Through a wonderfully curated exhibition, visitors understand the history of the city through different periods that are accompanied by top of the notch amazingly beautiful pieces.
One of those museums that leaves you a great memory of makes it a favorite.
Accompanied by the Heritage Amsterdam museum in the same premises, makes it an experience that you can’t miss when visiting Amsterdam.
A wonderful collection of Egyptian items as well as Greek and Roman pieces. The best that the museum has to offer is on par with the best available found elsewhere. Additionally, the museum was surprisingly large inside. Free lockers are provided for bags.
Really nice!

What a treat to go back in time and look at life during different periods in the 20th century. The museum has a wide variety of displays of homes, classrooms and stores from different eras. Everything is kept in perfect condition and displayed in a beautiful manner.

They accept the museum kaart so if you have one, there’s really no excuse not to go.
Small but cute museum focused on showcasing the everyday life of people in the 20th century. I was worried that it would show a lot about wars, but this topic was not shown in much detail, and a lot more attention was given to the toys, cutlery and baby items. The section with old TVs, phones and audio equipment is especially fun for older kids.

Captions are in Dutch only, but there is a free audio guide in English (tbc).
Kids also get a little "find this object" quest.

There are several interactive stations, and even a couple of working arcade games!

Suitable for kids from about 4-5 years of age. You can see the entire museum in about 2 hours.

The temporary exhibit on the autobiographical writings of Dutch Jews bespeaking their negotiation with the Jewish identity is truly fascinating. The ticket is valid for a month. I also got two past exhibit catalogues that are beautiful and otherwise difficult to access. The staff is very friendly. Well worth a visit.

A lot of information on Jewish history from before and after the holocaust. I would recommend visiting the synagogue across the streets. It is very historic and has some treasures inside.

Beautiful exhibitions in this temporary space. Mindfully tells so many interesting stories about the history of Amsterdam through multiple lenses. Very interesting! I really loved this.
(If google allowed I'd give it 4,5)
Really impressionable collection, viewing it up close was wondrous. I was slightly disappointed with some exhibits being at other museums and there being empty spots because of it (it must be a ususl thing at museums) Some audio tour spots didn't work either
The building itself is interesting too, quite modern and incorporating the history of the museum
Great museum to learn about Egypt, with many different relics and antiques on display. The museum is quite large, having two floors and a ground floor which are packed with items.

Great museum! We loved it! Really interesting.
Awesome museum with many things to see. However it was a bit too crowded for me. Which in a way was understandable because it was on a Saturday. What do i expect 🤷‍♀️ despite it being too crowded, the pieces that were showcased in the museum was spectacular, glad I got to see Byblos exhibition!

The National Museum of Antiquities, safely tucked away in the centre of Leiden is a tranquil, quiet place of ancient archaeological reverie. Or rather that is the mood one is gently guided into: The atmosphere is very pleasant, the collection is gorgeous and awe inspiring.
It speaks volumes of human culture and religion that spans thousands of years. The beauty the museum has on display doesnt only reside in their incredibly old age, their radiant colours, the fine, delicate craftsmanship, but rather in the knowledge that they give us a very personal view on the lives led thousands of years ago. People of ages gone by that lived and loved, dreamt and strived for all kinds of things just like you and me. But in one aspect they outbid us by millennia: they are remembered by the beauty they left for us, we currently still have to leave anything (positive) that is worth remembering for future generations.

An interesting museum to have a look. The 'dying beautifully' exhibition was on when I visited. The pieces they had on Pompeii and Herculaneum was put together really tightly with nice use of space, lights and some interesting information. The permanent collection is interesting as well, though small. The more artsy collections (Rauch / self portraits) did nothing for me. The museum building itself is very beautiful and it is worth a visit if you happen to be in Assen.

We have visited amazing exhibition 1. POMPEI and Herculaneum 2. Drentse veenlijken 3. Poppenhuis
Everything is amazing starting with the museum building.

Almost a thousand years ago, Cistercian nuns laid the first stone of the Drents Museum. In 1259 they received permission from the bishop of Utrecht to build a new monastery on the site where the museum now stands

The Statenzaal is without doubt the most beautiful room in the Drents Museum. The hall is lavishly decorated.

Visitors to the Drents Museum nowadays enter through a coach house from the end of the 18th century

Architect Erick van Egeraat deliberately chose the color white for the new building of the Drents Museum. White is neutral, so that the colorful collection of the museum comes into its own. White also provides an exciting contrast to the historic buildings of the museum

The floating stairs in the new building of the Drents Museum weigh 16,000 kilos each and are only attached to the upper and lower floors. The stairs were first tested in the factory in Dokkum

My favorite exhibition is Poppenhuis

In the 18th century, it was a hobby for rich women to make dollhouses. A doll's house in those days was not a child's toy, but a serious matter

a visitor can listen to a lecture by Barbara van Lier's daughter and gossip and slander in the girls' room or smell freshly baked bread in the kitchen. This is how the public imagines itself in Drenthe and Assen in the 18th century
Amazing place for spending a weekend with friends or family. I loved how interactive the museum was and had different sights so you wouldn’t get bored or tired. Amazing graphics and design also kids friendly.wish a nice gift shop.I reserved the tickets online first and had no waiting time to get in.

You pay 17€ for entrance and it includes the beautiful portugese synagogue. This museum has an incredible children section with a lot of crafts, music room, challah baking activity, VR and more. My son was so happy and asked to comeback everyday :) it is very interactive and informative for children and adults :))
Beautiful exhibition about Armenian history. Even though there was no queue but the museum was pretty full and I would recommend getting tickets in advance.

A phenomenal experience where the museum has taken history to the next level. They showcase the very pompous and mainstream history of Amsterdam that you would expect - but parallell to this, they have also dug deeper into the more unknown parts of Amsterdam history.

This way of depicting history is brilliant. It simply tells you that history is written by the wealthy and winning and is not generally accurate, by methods of questioning and critical thinking you learn to ask yourself what part of any history is truly accurate.

Well worth a visit!

We specifically went for the Frida Kahlo exhibition, which, even during covid, was quite good and worth the trip. Although we had relatively little time left afterward, we did manage to see some of the regular exhibition as well. Apparently some of it was being remodeled, so we'll have to come back to see the rest. Because of covid restrictions only 12 people are allowed into the museum shop, so when you pass it and there's no queue, go in right away if you want to check it out.

A truly magnificent museum showcasing the rich history of the city. There are numerous exhibits to see but The Golden Coach exhibition stands out. What a magnificent coach it is, currently shrouded in controversy as one of the doors depicts a portrait of the Dutch (white) colonial masters surrounded by black and Indonesian/Javanese slaves. Absolutely a must-see exhibition. Highly recommended!

Viva la Frida! - Life and art of Frida Kahlo. Kahlo (1907-1954) was a Mexican painter 🧑‍🎨 known for her many portraits, self-portraits, and works inspired by the nature and artifacts of 🇲🇽 Mexico. Inspired by the country's popular culture, she employed a naïve folk 🖼 art style to explore questions of identity, postcolonialism, gender, class, and race in Mexican society. Her paintings often had strong autobiographical elements and mixed realism with fantasy.

Lekker tuintje
Zeer fraai gebouw..👍👍
The Memorial was recently updated, and has some interesting exhibits. Entry fee includes entry to the Holocaust Museum (across the street), the Portuguese Synagogue, and the Jewish Cultural Museum. The memorial is simple but poignant. There is a brief audio tour of the memorial (information and free wifi are available at reception). A list of families affected by the Holocaust are on the main floor. Upstairs there are a number of interactive exhibits, including a 3d interactive model of Bergen Belsen, and a massive library of interviewers with survivors.
This place is a real gem, I'm so happy I found it! Of course the subject matter is heartbreaking, but necessary. The interactive map of Bergen Belsen is so informative and eye opening. Cannot recommend a visit more
WOW what can be said about this pace. It is a must see. Quite upsetting thinking about what the Jewish community went through back then, the memorial museum takes you through the journey we sat down witj head phones on for 25 minutes watching a very heart renching video. Up stairs there is an interactive screen showing you around the camps.
A worthwhile visit after visiting the Holocaust museum across the road.
An important and powerful way to know about the sad history of the holocaust. There is a memorial where I stood quietly for a while thinking about the inconceivable atrocities during world war 2. Its a strong reminder that we must behave with compassion and justice.
A powerful memorial with the story of the Dutch Jews. It is free admission but everything is in Dutch.
Somber museum displaying documents, photographs and artefacts from the persecution of the Jews during the Second World War. The displays and exhibits cover several floors. On the ground floor the names of the dead are displayed under an eternal flame. They do have English information sheets at reception.
