Beautiful place. Glad to have a bear box. Don't love the barges- can bang loudly with waves. Seattle city light passes by frequently in boats as well. Otherwise, serene & lovely!

Three-nights at Buster Brown via kayak. Excellent dock and three clean camp sites each with fire pit/grill, picnic table, and bear box. Shared toilet. Tent pads for two sites had room for four tents right next to each other. Shady sites with lots of down branches for fires. Sites are separate enough that you know you have neighbors but can't hear their conversations. You can hear the highway across the water, but it's not very busy. The power lines run behind the site, and there is a log boom with barges attached--makes for a slight industrial feel. The learning center is a close kayak trip, and up river there is a phone to call for a ride over the dam. Water was cold but swimable (August). Nice parking area and boat launch. The kayak trip from the boat launch is 2.8 miles. The last mile can be a challenge when the wind picks up (around 11 a.m.). Wind blows west to east. We had one-foot swells with white caps. Reservations required but can get lucky the morning of with cancellations; parking free with reservation. For a less-challenging kayak paddle and more sites with a beach area, consider Thunder Point.
