Francisco José de Goya y Lucientes was a Spanish painter and engraver 1746 - 1828. His magnificent statue adorns the platform in front of the Prado Museum. Well deserved. He is the author of several extremely important works that write the history of painting. Let's say Gola Maja from 1800.

A decent size statue to a genius of the art world. Needs a decent pressure wash though!

Maiden mild
Ah listen to a maidens prayer
For thou canst hear amid the wild
'Tis thou
'Tis thou can't save amid despair
We slumber safely 'til the morrow
Though e'en by men outcast reviled
Oh maiden
See a maiden sorrow
Oh mother hear a suppliant child

This is a nicely done statue of Goya. If you don't know what his famous for, then have a look at the beauty at the bottom of the pedestal. Goya got famous for painting her. (With clothes and in the nude). He was quite a famous painter in his time and even now, his art is still relevant. I'm not sure why you're reading this. You should go to the Prado and see his works there.

This statue stands in tribute to Francisco de Goya, the great 19th century Spanish painter. Counted amongst the great Spanish masters,

The statue depicts Goya as a middle aged man. He is wearing an overcoat and the outfit of a 19th century gentlemen. In his left hand, he holds a hat, pressed against his chest, his right behind his back. His right leg in front as if striding forward. Well worth seeing, especially when combined with a visit to the Prado.

Stand on the balcony of the 1st floor of the Prado for a bird's eye view of the statue.
