Kesari Wada of Pune

In 1905, Lokmanya Tilak purchased Kesari Wada in Narayan Peth from the Maharaja of Baroda, Shrimant Sayajirao Gaikwad, to serve as the office and residence for Kesari. The western portion was designated as Kesari's office and printing house, while the eastern part served as his residence.

Small museum, some books, house hold items of Tilak ji and other memories. Known as Tilak wada or Keshri wada, wada means house, Free entry, you need 10-15 minutes to cover the place.
The wada was originally known as Gaikwadwada and owned by Sayajirao Gaikwad III the Maharaja of the Princely state of Baroda. It was sold to Tilak by the Maharaja in 1905 at a fair price. The original wada (Marathi for courtyard / building) where Tilak published the newspaper still houses the current day offices of Kesari. Along with offices of Kesari, the courtyard contains the Tilak museum and Kesari-Maratha library. These together house mementos of Tilak, including his writing desk, a number of original documents, and the first India national flag which was unfurled by Madame Cama in 1907 in Stuttgart. During Ganapati festival, the Wada is visited by a large number of people.

The Kesari Wada in Narayan Peth, Pune, is a historical building which once upon a time housed one of India's greatest freedom fighters, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, also known as Lokmanya Tilak.

The Wada has since been converted into a museum for preserving many items personally used by the great Lokmanya Tilak himself, when he lived there. In addition, there are items like photographs, stamps, coins with Tilak as the theme.

All these items are well preserved, and the Wada itself is well maintained to this day.

For getting a perspective of what the Lokmanya was, this Wada must be visited.
