Imre Nagy, 1896 -1958 was a Hungarian communist politician who served as President of the Council of Ministers of the Hungarian People's Republic from 1953 to 1955. In 1956, Nagy became the leader of the 1956 Hungarian Revolution against the Soviet-backed government, for which he was sentenced to death and executed two years later. I was at the monument on the bridge at night, and yet this important man impressed me with his stoicism.
This amazing piece of art architecture is located right in the corner when you cross the bridge of Erzsebet hid towards the Buda Castle. The Status of Elizabeth Queen of Hungary has a small waterfall that makes it beautifully looking towards the river. It worth to visit if you are in Budapest. And I advise to walk more than taking cars in Budapest because there are lots of sightseeing locations
The statue of Nagy used to be at Martyrs Square. The statue was moved to this location near Parliament and now faces the Danube. Nagy is considered a hero of the 1956 anti-Soviet uprising.
One of the not so annotated gems in Pest, the very photogenic bridge gives for perfect sunset photos and is an awesome addition on the road to the island and beautiful bride right next to it.

This is a must see when visiting Budapest. The buildings in the area make you feel as though you've travelled through time and landed in a medieval fantasy. Plus it offers some of the most spectacular views of the city.

Side comment: the chimney cake sold here are about 5 times more expensive than other areas, so do yourself a favour and grab one from any of many the underground stations in the city.

Built in 1706 with the purpose of warding off the plague, the Holy Trinity Statue located in front of Matthias is a beautiful and intricate structure.

Stately and imposing. Iconic Millennium Monument located within Heroes Square, Budapest. There are statues representing the Seven chieftains of the Magyars, other important Hungarian national leaders, and the Memorial Stone of Heroes. Unesco Heritage Site. Worth a visit
Amazing place; at the night; we were visited this place in winter; so the lake was frozen so is perfect to practice ice skating.

Any way you’ll can view many sculptures and a big square place.
Not worth the visit by itself but still worth passing by if you're hiking or coming down from the citadel. It's a good sculpture no doubt, but the place is just a pass-by-stop.and there's nothing else there.
A large square with monuments and statues of the most outstanding kings, princes and leaders of Hungary. Behind the square is the entrance to a huge park full of various attractions, such as a zoo, one of the most popular thermal baths in Budapest and a large, beautiful castle that really makes an amazing impression.

Historical site, still being reconstructed to its heyday before 1945. Restorations done well, but still very much underway, meaning lots.of scaffolding at present which interferes with the overall impression. An excellent view of the city available from the ramparts. We were fortunate to be there to see the process of changing the guard (on the hour).

Must do, must see. Put your comfortable walking shoes on and spend the whole day exploring this district. Please note that the venucular ride is not included in The Budapest Card (although the documentation advises it is) but the castle tour bus is as are the museums. The views are amazing. Not to be missed.
Below I took a picture of the entry way since it is difficult to find from the street. Get a tour guide for improved understanding.
Wonderful place
Etwas verloren steht diese schöne Statue in diesem nicht so schönen Park. Eigentlich schade. Durch den vielen Verkehr ist es natürlich sehr laut dort. Die Statue ist beeindruckend durch ihre Größe und eigentlich sehr schön
We was lucky as this is only open when tour guides are in there , so we followed them in . Normally you would need access code .

It’s quite beautiful up here. The trees here make the views better, and interrupt them at the same time. We didn’t go into the museum, so it was just kind of hike up all the steps, look around and say “Yup it’s pretty.” And walk back down.
These 60 pairs of shoes, sculpted from Iron, serve as a memorial to the 1940s atrocities committed against the Jewish people.

The Hungarian militia ordered the Jews to remove their shoes, which could be stolen and resold, before massacring them at the edge of the Danube

Stunning. The best time to wander about here is in the evenings. You can catch a Castle Bus from the bottom of the hill to Fisherman's Bastion, from where it's a couple of flights of stairs to the castle district. The castle itself is a pleasant walk down the line from Matthias Church.
The Millennium Monument in Budapest, Hungary, is a notable landmark located at Heroes' Square (Hősök tere). It was constructed in 1896 to commemorate the 1,000th anniversary of the founding of Hungary. The monument features statues of important historical figures and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, making it a significant cultural and historical site in Budapest.
Nice fountain to throw coins and make a wish.

HOLY TRINITY COLUMN
The Council of Buda made the decision to erect a Holy Trinity Column in 1694 with the purpose of safeguarding the populace against recurring plague outbreaks and as an expression of gratitude for its cessation. The initial foundation stone for the Holy Trinity Column was laid in 1700, in the middle of what was later named Holy Trinity Square in front of the Matthias Church, and the statue's completion was achieved by 1706. In 1709, due to another epidemic, this column was relocated to the suburbs of Újlak, and the city authorities opted for the construction of a larger and more ornate Holy Trinity Column, entrusted to a different sculptor. The inauguration of the current Column took place on June 11th, 1713. The hexagonal obelisk is adorned with statues on its cornice, featuring Saint Roch revealing his wounds, Saint John holding a cross, Saint Christopher bearing the child Christ on his shoulders, Saint Augustin with a heart aflame, Saint Joseph grasping a lily, and Saint Sebastian pierced by arrows. Below the cornice, three reliefs are present: the first depicts King David in penitential prayer, the second portrays the horrors of the epidemic in Buda Castle, and the third showcases the Holy Trinity Column itself. Among these reliefs, three coats-of-arms are displayed: one representing the Emperor, one signifying the town of Buda, and one symbolizing Hungary. On the three outstanding rims over the six statues are the Virgin Mary, John the Baptist, and Saint Francis of Xaver. The upper part of the pedestal is embellished with angelic heads, and crowning the structure is the group of statues representing the Holy Trinity: the Father holding a scepter, the Son with a cross, and above them, the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove.
STATUE OF QUEEN ELIZABETH
The monument is dedicated to Elisabeth, Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary, commonly known as Sisi, who ruled alongside her husband Emperor Franz Joseph I until her assassination on September 10, 1898.
It's a remarkable place from the point of view of history and as a hommage to those who were murdered as a result of intolerance and antisemitism. Nevertheless I missed a text explaining in detail what happened there in 1944-45. The monument looks neglected and dirty.
Lajos Kossuth - was a Hungarian nobleman, lawyer, journalist, politician, statesman and governor-president of the Kingdom of Hungary
Art on another level
It is a monument of a jewish victims in WWII. They ordered them to put off their shoes here. Definetly worth visiting and remember the victims. You can visit it for free walking by the Danube just in front of the Danube bank.

It is one of the most unique and beautiful castle districts in the world. Full of amazing historical places, great restaurants, cafés and sweatshops. Almost always, there is some entertainment going on. And at many spots, it provides a breathtaking view to the city. It is worthy to spend there a few hours and just to get lost on the streets.

It is UNESCO world heritage site. There is very beautiful park beside it and also two museums and a monument plus a balloon ride sight and thermal bath and also ZOO. The square features seven chieftains of the Magyars and other Hungarian national leaders. The best time to visit it in early morning and the evening, it is well connected with public transportation. A public-paid parking is also available there.
Majestic structure on the bank of Danube , very well connected from public transport and we can have a great walk around this location. Highly recommended to have a walk around
It is a beautiful place with spectacular views of the city. The only thing I didn't like is that you have to buy different tickets for each place you want to visit and wait in line for each. And like in most places there, you pay to use toilet :-(
It’s a very sobering experience. As an American, we read about WWII. We’ve seen movies, perhaps, if we were lucky, we met a holocaust survivor. But until you d stepped foot in a concentration camp, until you see shells and ruin of buildings bombed in WWII, until you look at these shoes filled with pebbles as a remembrance of a loved one, you don’t even begin to fathom the depth of pain and suffering. It’s a silent, sobering reminder that we must do everything in our power to not let hate win.
A magnificent place with an impressive expanse of space. The sheer space creates a spirit of profound joy and patriotism for Hungary. The statue on the left combined with the flowing water body in the front endows the square with a mix of history and modernity.

Stunning building. Love the way it's lit up in the evening.
Worth a visit too see and recollect thoughts on historical events that have happened.
Nice fountain. Matches well with the architecture of the Buda castle.
A monument for the 550.000 Hungarian Jews who lost their lives between 1944 - 1945 by arrow cross militiamen. Thousands of them were shot at the banks of Danube. Before being shot, they were ordered to leave their shoes ashore. For most of them, this was their only valuable possession. The installation was erected in their memory in April 2005.
Great place to take photos and stroll around.

This Limestone Pillar next to Matthias Church was built twice. If this Limestone Pillar could talk it would say : " What does not kill you, makes you stronger." The first pillar was built by the survivors of the 1st black plague. When the black plague resurfaced and many more lost their lives... the remaining survivors of the 2nd black plague found it fitting to build the pillar again in Greater Gratitude to the Holy Spirit. If this 2nd Limestone pillar could pray. It would say: 🙏 "May the Father, Son and Holy Spirit 🔥 🔥... "Guide"you through the 2nd storm and May you "Too" have Gratitude for the King of Kings 🙏 🕊 🙏 !! Local "Guides" 🪨 Rock. 😆

Was a great place to spend a day wandering around. We got a shuttle which took us uphill and had 4 locations where you could get on or off. Usually you can get a funicular to top but it was out for maintenance. Saw the castle and changing of guards, Also found tower which we climbed to top of and had amazing views. Beautiful church to go inside for a break away from the crowds of people.

Went around 10pm and it was mostly empty and so quiet. Very peaceful atmosphere with only the sound of the tram going through. Very clean and well kept. Some security guards present doing waking patrols and visitors sitting on benches
Close to the main areas but very hidden also the main gate is often closed. Worth to wait a bit then enter when somebody is leaving the building. Just keep quiet as it is a residental place, respect the people who live there.
Few steps away from the entrance of Gozsdu udvar (Gozsdu court).
It's situated in the gardens area of the castle vicinity. The gardens are maintained well too.

I randomly decided to go here after a very long night out instead of going to bed so was at dawn. Highly recommend visiting at dawn. Stunning views of the sun coming up and great architecture. I also saw at least 3 couples having awesome wedding/photo shoots, lovely to see
Sad story of the massacre of Jews during the Holocaust who fled and plunged into the cold and deep Danube river. An art installation of the victims' shoes made of iron became a tragic monument to that event on the banks of the Danube.
This place is extremely hard to find..Even with using Google maps..Its behind a large wooden door ,you have to wait for someone to let you in...
If you're planning a trip to Budapest, make sure to add this place to your itinerary. It's an absolute must-visit for its stunning views of the city, the river, and the parliament. The architecture is awe-inspiring and you can easily spend hours here taking it all in.

However, it's important to note that the area can get quite crowded, especially during peak tourist season. If you're looking for a more serene experience, it's best to visit during the week to avoid the masses of tourists.

In terms of food and drinks, be prepared to pay a bit more than usual. The restaurants and cafes in the area can be quite pricey, but the views they offer make up for it. If you're on a budget, there are plenty of green spaces around where you can bring a picnic and enjoy the scenery.

I visited during the day, but I can only imagine how stunning it would be during the night as well. It's a popular spot for evening strolls, so if you're looking for a romantic or picturesque setting, this place won't disappoint.

Overall, I highly recommend adding this spot to your itinerary when visiting Budapest. Whether you're interested in architecture, photography, or simply enjoying breathtaking views, this place has something to offer for everyone.
Der Ort ist unscheinbar, schwer zu finden. Trotzdem sehr wichtig. Ein Zeugnis für die Grausamkeit meiner Vorfahren.
Auch seltsam: ein Ort der Trauer und daneben alltägliches Leben; man fühlt sich wie ein Eindringling in Privatleben, privaten Balkone.

Super Amazing view at night.
You have to climb a little to reach there but the view on river and Parliament visual is worth it, specially at night. Parliament is lighted in yellow lights which gives a golden look from castle. The church here has amazing thin work on it which looks really nice. Roof is with covered with beautiful coloured tiles worth to take few minutes and have a look. Overall atmosphere is so chill.
Stunning and recently renovated public square in front of the glorious and world famous Hungarian Parliament building. The Square is named after the Hungarian national hero, Kossuth, and at one end there is a beautiful and large monument dedicated to him and Hungary’s struggle for independence under the Habsburgs. The square is easily accessible from the Metro, stop of the same name located just to the left of the parliament building, where you can get the M2. Semi-recently the public square was re-landscaped and renovated, and is now a very pleasant place to wander around. Great to walk admiring the architecture of the world famous Parliament building numerous historic monuments, wonderful surrounding architecture and plenty of photographic opportunities, as well as access to the Parliament visitor centre and even pretty views across the Danube to the old town of Buda and the castle. It is an absolute must visit when in Budapest!

Beautiful statue, located just in front of the Mattias Church, very famous in footage from the coronation of a Hungarian kings, most notably the last Hungarian King Charles IV (Karl I of Austria) in 1916. The whole area is beautiful and the Statue is close to other sites including the church itself, the Fisherman’s Bastion as well close to the castle. Definitely worth a visit when exploring around Budapest…
Incredible experience. We had a great tour around the ghetto and could see the still remaining part of the wall

Holy Trinity Column is a beautiful Baroque 15m tall limestone column made to protect the city against the plague.
The Kossuth Statue, located outside the Hungarian Parliament Building in Budapest, is a stunning work of art that pays homage to Lajos Kossuth, one of Hungary's most celebrated political leaders. The statue, which was sculpted by Miklós Ligeti in 1927, depicts Kossuth standing on a pedestal, holding a sword in one hand and a laurel wreath in the other.

The statue is a striking example of neoclassical sculpture and is admired for its attention to detail and its grandeur. It has become an iconic symbol of Hungarian independence and democracy, and it is a popular destination for tourists visiting Budapest.

The Kossuth Statue is an important part of Hungary's history and culture, and it is a testament to the country's rich artistic heritage. It is a must-see attraction for anyone visiting Budapest, and it is sure to leave a lasting impression on all who see it
nice statue at the background, check it out
Beautiful monument located next to parliament. There is construction next to the museum but you can get great shots in this area. Be careful of the TRAM for it runs between the statues and buildings in this area.
While not the original wall it is rebuilt from some of the same materials from the original wall. The location is a bit hard to find if on your own. look for a wooden gate/ door in the middle of Király utca
A visit to Budapest should include this historic site. It's worth a few minutes to remember it's history. Sobering.

Absolutely beautiful square surrounded by magnificent Parliament buildings. The square is huge and super clean. It’s a must visit when you are in Budapest. Be prepared for the sun though. There is no cover at all. So make sure to wear a hat or apply sunscreen in a sunny day.

Beautiful square with the dominant Hungarian Parliament building, gorgeous views of the Danube River, very spacious and clean. There are a lot of statues and parks surrounding the area, a tram stop as well as the metro station. There are many cafés and restaurants as this is a popular spot for tourists. Definitely a must when visiting Budapest.

Nice bridge with statue. Statue is looking towards Donau river. Also nice seats surrounding the bridge. Must see and do. Please do walk over the bridge and be cautious whilst doing so. After continue to the river and parliament building.
A statue of Franz Joseph's wife, Queen Elizabeth (Sisi) who was assassinated in 1898. She is very popular in Hungary because she learned the language and was considered to be genuinely kind to people

The park is very small and the area is not that interesting, but the statue is tasteful
Small fountain, it depicts two children grappling with a fish. The fine workmanship of the fishing net is remarkable. Located at the front of Buda Castle, just few steps sway from funicular upper station, along long terrace and fantastic view of Budapest and Chain Bridge.
The Kossuth Memorial is dedicated to former Hungarian Regent-President Lajos Kossuth in front of the Hungarian Parliament Building.  The memorial is an important Hungarian national symbol and scene of official celebrations. After the death of Lajos Kossuth (1894) and his sumptuous funeral in Budapest a public subscription was almost immediately announced to build a memorial for the leader of the 1848 Revolution. In 1906 the competition was won by János Horvay after long debates about the style and message of the memorial. Although the public was dissatisfied with Horvay’s idea the sculptor began working. Until 1914 all the figures of the group were completed except Kossuth himself but then the work came to a halt because of World War I. In the years following the war Horvay completed the Kossuth statue. The Kossuth Memorial was officially inaugurated in 1927 before a crowd of 100,000 people. The sculpture group depicts the members of the first Hungarian parliamentary government: Lajos Kossuth (in the middle), Pál Esterházy, Gábor Klauzál, József Eötvös, István Széchenyi, Prime Minister Lajos Batthyány, Bertalan Szemere,  Ferenc Deák and Lázár Mészáros. The other side of the stone back wall are the representatives of the fighting Hungarian people.  Art critics condemned the melancholic atmosphere of the memorial and the sculpture remained somewhat unpopular. The after WW2 communist regime decided the Horvay made memorial wasn’t appropriate because Kossuth was portrayed as a lethargic, troubled figure instead of an enthusiastic, suggestive leader who mobilized the whole country. This is why the Monument was removed. Zsigmond Kisfaludy Strobl won the new competition with a Neo-Saxon, Socreal sculpture group instead of the original neo-baroque-Art Nouveau artwork. However, after the change of regime in 90s a new decision was made to restore everything in the original state on Kossuth Square. So the statue by Kisfaludy Strobl was removed, and a copy of Horvay sculpture made of a better material was reinstalled in 2015. That is currently visible on Kossuth Square. Regarding the future we all are uncertain...
To the northwest of Elizabeth Bridge is a statue of Elizabeth, Habsburg empress and Hungarian queen. Consort to Franz Joseph, 'Sissi' was much loved by the Magyars because, among other things, she learned to speak Hungarian. She was assassinated by an Italian anarchist in Geneva in 1898 with a sharpened needle file. What a brute. - lonely planet
Beautiful historical monument in the memory of the Kossuth event. One of the popular spots around the parliament for photographs and flocking with tourists throughout the day.

Historic attraction..Every tourist comes round from here i guess as its packed :).. but its one of the best location to see Peste side from here..great wiev of the parliament building and the bridges are amazing.A great tour on a sunny day...
Great place for photos—it has a nice view of the parlament. The bridge can be very slippery though.
Beautiful fountain with interesting architecture at the castle of Budapest city.
Nice statue but it's in a very small park. The statue is of a queen who liked to give bread to the poor but was forbidden to by her family. The story is that one day she went out with loaves of bread in her skirt when a relative accosted her and asked what was in her skirt. She opened her skirt and the bread had miraculously turned into flowers.
