The manager doesn't know the rules. He wouldn't let me use my own insurance, tried to get me to pay $200, and ruined my whole trip

Great service , easy check out . Will post more details after I return the car . Had a good experience with Karla who speaks English and is customer friendly.

Great attention from the staff. We returned a van today and picked up a smaller car. We were offered water while we waited and had great conversations with Vieney, Denise and the rest of the staff.

Worst rental car experience I have ever had due to an incredibly rude and unprofessional man named David Hernandez. This man charged me an extra day for returning the car late even though I arrived to drop off 30 min before my drop off time and then had to wait. He also tried to charge me triple the amount of the cleaning fee. He also repeatedly brought up the fact that I’m American in a negative light and also told me the he fired an employee for giving me a “good rate,” even though that was the rate I always paid when renting cars from this company. Because of the incredibly upsetting experience I had with this man I will definitely not rent from this company again. Highly recommend avoiding this place at all costs.

If I could gave this place zero stars I would. Beware when renting from AVIS in Mexico. There are environmental regulations which do not allow you to drive cars with a certain license plate on certain days. AVIS will not inform you which days or even try notifying you. If you are driving the car on those days and you get pulled over. You can either pay the fine or they will confiscate the license plate. Either way, the toll/fee will come out of your pocket and AVIS will do nothing to accommodate you. I rented a car from here for 3 days and had to return on the 4th day. I was pulled over for having the wrong license plate and I was not going pay the fee which is about $150 US so I told them to take the license plate thinking AVIS would cover it since they did not warn me. Then they charged me $270 US because they said the license plate being confiscated was my fault. I had a returning flight that day so I couldn't just wait until the next day to return it. All I can say is BEWARE!! Try a different car rental service! This location was even more unprofessional and unwilling to help!

We've rented cars from this branch of National/Enterprise three times and every time its been straightforward and easy, the customer service is professional and clear. We always buy the mid level or high level insurance package and never have any problems. If you accept that this is part of the overall cost of the car rental and you'll save yourself a lot of frustration, rather than going for the cheapest option online or via a third party and then having to pay additional when you show up.

Great service, fast and very friendly, in particular from Daniel.
The car, a Nissan X-Trail, was practically new and fully equipped.
Their prices are reasonable, much cheaper than the competition. I prepaid the rental and didn’t have to pay anything else on return.
I will definitely rent from them again.

Save yourself any trouble and go to another serious car rental. This company tries to scam you in absolutely all the ways they can and have the absolute worst customer service. I in particular recommend not to go to the AICM airport, as the staff there are mean and laughed on my face when telling me that I was responsible for the expansive damage on the car (I hit a bumper higher than normal that cut the carter). I had purchased the full protection, but they use broadly written contract clauses to justify the charges (another detail, the contract is only in Spanish).
So just avoid any headaches and go to any of the big rental companies.

Consistently high reviews for a reason - we were very impressed with the service here! We were apprehensive about renting a car while in Mexico given the various stories we heard and bad reviews online, but decided to give National Reforma a try because of the good ratings and glad we did! Excellent service from the moment we walked in. Zero pressure to buy any coverage or package that we didn’t want/need. Polite. Respectful. Professional. Pickup was smooth. Would definitely recommend!

Enterprise Rent-A-Car exceeded my expectations! From the moment I walked in, the staff was friendly and efficient. Daniel and Vianey were extremely helpful. The car was clean, well-maintained, and ready to go. Their flexible rental options made it easy to find a vehicle that suited my needs perfectly. I'll definitely be using Mexico City Enterprise again for my future car rental needs!

The worst. Do not use Avis.
They deliver 2hrs late vs planned.
The computers on the office tend to fail and continuously without internet

Rented with them maybe 15-20 times, and have never had any problems. Always great service in the office, and the cars come in great condition. Most important is that the price I see online is the price I pay.

This place is a scam. Alfonso is a cheat and when I complained he closed the doir on me and said he would call the police. I begged him to call the políce but he just closed the door and disappeared.

It takes way too long to pick up a car at Avis Mexico in paseo reforma otherwise everything was ok

The car was good and the lady we've returned to car to was nice, however I am not satisfied with the renting of the car. We prepaid the car and we got the discount, however I only bought the mandatory third party insurance, where I thought was also protection against a collision if it's third party fault. When we wanted to buy additional insurance at the place, they gave us much higher price than on the website and I don't talk about the discount price, but normal price on the website. I don't like these tactics and I think it's unfair, especially when we wanted to buy more and we did not refund anything. We were able to talk with them and reduce it a bit, but it was still higher than normal price and in the end we paid more for the insurance than for the rent of the car.

Tried to charge me 4000 pesos for returning a car after 3 weeks with a little dust on the outside and seats that could be fixed with 5 minutes of vacuuming.
I managed a rental car office for 10 years and had thousands of cars come back 10 times worse than my car, and we never once blinked – we just spent the 10 minutes it took to clean it.
This location either has incompetent detailers who can’t get a car clean without the customer bringing it back pristine, or they are greedy, money-hungry thieves.
If it had been a reasonable charge, like 200 pesos, I would’ve just paid it and rolled my eyes and moved on. But instead, the only option they gave was for me to take the keys back, pay for another day of rental, go have the car cleaned somewhere else, and then bring it back. Which I did (cost: 105 pesos, not 4000 pesos).
Management here should be fired, IMHO, and I say that as a former manager in the industry.

After booking with DiscoverCars, I checked the reviews and got really scared about booking with this company. As soon as I got to the place, I heard the famous words “we’re out of cars”. The guy was really friendly (and his English was great), and assured me they get cars returned later in the day. I could leave my number and he’d call me when a car was returned. As I’m figuring out what to do (and I can leave my luggage in the common area of the office), he tells me: today is your lucky day! Within 30mins, they got cars. The whole process went smoothly, and they didn’t try to upsell me any insurance (I got the full coverage with DiscoverCars) and I had a great rental experience. Also the return of the car (and the deposit) was no issue.

Very VERY rude personnel at the downtown location. We had a pleasant experience at the airport location, even though it took a very long time to get the car. The car was out of oil, which nearly caused a crises in the middle of nowhere. The tires were almost flat and needed air. The hubcaps are connected with zip ties. There are severe dents all over the car, it smelled like smoke, the interior was stained. But we didn’t mind and just photographed the car for our records. While we made it work, it was a good thing we are savvy and careful travelers or we would have been stranded when the engine over heated from a complete lack of oil. Shame on the incredibly rude team at this location. They gave us a major runaround at turn-in and tried to charge us for an existing dent. Attached are photos of the car at pick up. If this drop off hadn’t been so terrible, I would have left 4 or even 5 stars, even though the car needed maintenance during on our trip.

Its a great place to rent a car and edgar is so helpful

We rent a car here that had prior tickets associated with it - which resulted in us having to pay $300+ worth of tickets that were not our fault. The worse part is Mexico policy system does not accept any American credit card or debit card; we had to ask a local friend to help.
We stood on Mexico City street at night for 3 hours until we finally figured out payment and the parking guy finally came over to unlock our car…
National store paid back the ticket cost. However, we did not receive any compensation from National or the store for our horrible experience.

The staff is friendly but very decisive in insisting that you have to buy an insurance which is more expensive than the rent itself, even if this was not communicated when you rented the car online. Our trip costs more than doubled and we would not have chosen Europcar if we would have known upfront. We will not come back.
Providing the digital version of the documents by email took hours, which resulted in not knowing what you actually signed.
The car was in good condition and the return of the car was fine.

I wasn't satisfied with my experience with this company. You have to put down $25,000 USD deposit just to rent their car. You are basically forced to buy their insurance. Even after you buy their basic insurance you still have to have a credit hold of $10,000 USD.
I recommend going somewhere else.
I recommend going somewhere else.

I heard online about mandatory insurance in Mexico and was expecting to because the price was so cheap. But Mex didn’t ask us to buy insurance and the car was in perfect condition. New, clean, Apple CarPlay, low gas consumption. No hustle. Totally recommend.

DON’T GO THERE: THEY ARE SCAM!!
1. They charged me an extra day: I rented a car for 13 days, returned it after 12 days and 13 hours, they charged me 14 days!!!
2. They charged me $150 for a scratch I didn’t make
3. They charged all kinds of extra taxes which were not on the contract
Conclusion: they seem maybe cheap, but they are the most expensive (and scammers)!

I had a good experience here. The car was clean, and did not give me any problem. They also accepted my US credit card insurance

Do not waste your time or money at this location I have rented from Avis in multiple different countries around the world, they always exceeded expectations. However this location engages in very suspicious employee behavior We made a reservation in person today with a female Avis employee who quoted us at $560 USD for a truck rental for 4 days, way above market rate but I wanted to believe they were being honest. She told us our contract was opened, and we could return at 8pm that night to pick up. We didn’t receive a confirmation of any sort, but otherwise had no reason to suspect foul play. We spent about 45 minutes completing the first reservation. When we arrived back this evening at 8pm as discussed, the evening employee had no record of our reservation, and started a new reservation. We took photos again, provided personal information again, and spent another 45 minutes rebooking. After taking our information, they claimed their computers went down, and proceeded to fill out a paper form again with our information, now stating a new increased price of $780 USD. They refused to honor the original price that was given to us. This was a huge waste of time that resulted in a scam. I’m so disappointed as we’ve otherwise had a wonderful time in Mexico City, but this ordeal with Avis left a horrible impression. Do not trust these employees or business owners, they are by up to no good. You can save A LOT of money and time by renting from another location.

Decent attitude of the staff, managed to get the car in about 45min. What surprised me was the amount of the deposit (2,5k usd for a midsize car). Real fun began in about 2 hours when someone hit our car in the parking lot :) spent ridiculous amount of time on hot line (90prc on hold), but after cca 3 hours managed to get the process done. Despite this event, my deposit was released immediately upon return of the car and credited back to my account in 2 days ! Therefore 4*

I am very well experienced in renting cars abroad. After reading the terrible reviews on this Europcar location, I assumed it was because the renters did not understand that buying a liability insurance policy from Europcar is MANDATORY by Mexican law, so they were complaining about being charged for liability insurance, and I was prepared to purchase the additional TPL/PLI.
What I wasn't prepared for is that they extort you into ALSO purchasing the collision damage waiver, by authorizing the ENTIRE value of the car on your credit card if you decline it. I have a specific Premium rental car coverage through Amex which REQUIRES that I decline CDW from the rental agency. But the rental agency attempted to charge $35,000USD to my Amex as a deposit. And, of course, this grand sum was declined when attempted.
Then they offered me different "tiers" of CDW that would lower the amount they had to hold on my card. I paid an extra $350USD, just so they would only hold $10,000USD on my Amex while I had the car. (Even a $10,000 hold is utterly unheard of.)
I have never...on all 6 continents where you can rent a car...been extorted this way by an international rental car company. I'll be disputing the $350 with Amex, and reporting this location to Europcar...which I have always found to be a trustworthy brand to rent overseas.
DO NOT rent from this location. Stick with Avis or Hertz.
I took video of all the damage that was on the car when we picked it up. We returned the car at the Queretaro airport and there were no issues, and they reportedly released the $10k hold at that time. I'll be interested to see how it all shakes out on my statement after a few days. But the return process at QRO was effortless and friendly.

We booked online for this location, got a confirmation email (which never specified that the reservation was subject to availability), arrived at the location at 8:15 am only to be told that they had no cars and to go to the airport if we wanted one. We should have been informed that there were no cars available at this location. We wasted time and money and were received with poor service. I do not recommend this location at all.

Disgraceful company.. We reserved a Nissan Xtrail with a 2,5 engine for 2000usd for 10 days. They said they didnt have that one and we would get an upgrade.. They then gave us a Suzuki Ertiga 1.5 lt car (60% price value new compared to the nissan) . The weakest car ever. THIS IS A DOWNGRADE EUROPCAR..!!! No respect for their customers and they lie to your face. I will be sending a complaint and I will NEVER use Europcar again. Don’t use this company..

I rented a van from Priceline with Insurance for $525. When I went to Mexico City to pick up my Van from America Car Rental, they did not honor the rental agreement. I was forced to buy full coverage Insurance. My price with America Car Rental was $880. My credit card now has been charged $880 + 525 a total of $1405 for 5 days rental ( not mentioning that I had to downgrade to a car from a van) they are a scam. Supposedly Mexico should be cheaper than United States but they seem to me that they were more expensive will not rent again from America Rental Car. They are a scam!!!

It took us over an hour just to get our car despite having made a reservation. So much for having a “Quick Pass”. The “system was down”, one employee slowly typing into a computer while another looked on helplessly and a massive queue formed. Then they didn’t want to accept the credit card that I had already used to pay for the reservation, which cost us another 20 minutes. A million and one ways to waste time on a weekend getaway 🙃

My recent encounter with Expedia's customer service in Mexico City was an absolute nightmare. From the moment we arrived at the car rental place, it was clear that their level of service was far from satisfactory. Despite booking a car a week in advance, we were informed upon arrival that there were no cars available due to the high season. This was deeply disappointing, especially since we had planned a much-needed getaway to Tepoztlan.
The front desk staff at the car rental place showed little concern for our situation and had no explanation as to why they hadn't contacted us earlier to inform us of the unavailability. When we attempted to reach Expedia's customer service through their live chat, we were met with an unhelpful representative who directed us to an Alamo location that didn't even exist. This only added to our frustration and exhaustion as we wandered the streets in search of a non-existent solution.
After a lengthy and fruitless attempt to resolve the issue with Expedia, we decided to give Alamo a try on our own. Thankfully, we came across Carlos Flores at the Alamo location on Av Patriotismo 69, who was a breath of fresh air. Carlos was kind, understanding, and genuinely cared about helping us find a solution. He assisted us over the phone, secured a car for us, and made the booking process smooth and efficient.
Our experience at the Alamo location was in stark contrast to the deplorable service we encountered through Expedia. The rude and unhelpful attitude displayed by Expedia's representatives left us feeling frustrated and disheartened.
In conclusion, I strongly advise against using Expedia for any travel arrangements in Mexico. Their lack of commitment to resolving issues and the disappointing customer service they provide marred what was supposed to be a pleasant vacation. If you're in need of a car rental, I highly recommend visiting Alamo's Av Patriotismo 69 location, where you will find genuine care and professionalism. My overall experience with Expedia was nothing short of horrendous, and I cannot stress enough how displeased I am with their service.
Expedia doesnt deserve 1 start but I had to put it so I can post this review.

Contrary to all the reviews, most of who did not use Google to research - your US based car insurance is not valid in Mexico, your credit card insurance is not valid in Mexico, and the terms and conditions from Europcar clearly state they do not accept third-party liability insurance… so that leaves you to accept the PLI that all cars come with and then the standard options of LDW, SLI, etc that are always optional. I went with a medium packet, which essentially doubled the cars daily rate, but the last thing I wanna be doing on vacation is messing around with a Mexican insurance if I get into an accident.
There was a $1875 deposit for the car, so take that into account if you are someone whose credit cards are all maxed out.
Cost roughly $166 for the medium insurance and a VW Vento for two days. The car had 66,000 km on it. And was in good shape. I did take over 100 photos of the exterior with my cell phone to verify pre-existing damages.
Have you done a lot of research on what to expect, I did not find anything surprising nor any pressure tactics.
The main thing that I thought was cool was how they did a biometric scan of your face and then the computer compares it against your passport photo and your drivers license for likelihood that the person they just took a photo of the person in those photos.
Overall do your research and after doing it a majority of the reviews are simply misinformed. Watch out for those topes on your travels!

I'm very disappointed. American rental did not respected the rental agreement they allowed rent car app to promote. When arrived to the rental office, they asked me for a 7500$ deposit to respect the rental price. I agreed to pay it BUT American rental was not authorize to charge that amount in their cashier machine.
The rental price without the deposit that they couldn't take was tripled so I had no choice to leave without the car.
I concluded it is a trick to catch customers with a price too good to be true just to have you disappointed.
Extremely Bad customer experience!

Experiencia desagradable.

(Edit to review) I used to have a great experience with them but last two times they refused to give me the car I reserved. Only offering much smaller options. I have the impression since I dont get full insurance they refuse to comply with my reservation. This has been the last time I try and rent with them. For me from now on will be Hertz who never let me down.

Total scam! This is Economy Car Rental. Signs say they are Economy and America but when you refuse to pay the huge fee they want for “extra insurance” they pretend they aren’t the company you have a reservation. Paid $155 for a week and $77 for the insurance up front. Get there and they want $440! Also they took us to the airport location first, when we didn’t fall for the scam they said oh you have to to downtown location. Shuttle wouldn’t take us so had to Uber there only to get the same scam! It’s hard to stay on top of reviews when they pretend to be other companies. We thought we were renting from Economy.

I have rented from this location more than 6 times. They always do a great job and are pretty quick. What sets them apart was an experience I had today- after returning the car last night I realize I left my laptop in the car. I arrived to Avis at 7am today with the hopes of retrieving the laptop. The folks were so so helpful. The car had already been taken to a different site for cleaning but they recovered it and had it back to me in 20 mins!! Incredible honesty and service. I am so so grateful!!!

Big Scam

First I booked my car for cancun online for 3390 mx ( booking number WFM009F15D) but at pick-up they charged my creditcard 4723 mx. When I told the employee that he charged to much, he said "oh sorry i put the wrong amount of tax, when you return the car we will pay you back". I asked him 3 times if he was sure and if he could put in in writing and he said yes, see the contract you can show them when you return the car (This much amount of tax doesn't match up)
Then they gave me Nissan March instead of a Kia Rio ( a bigger car what I actually had paid extra for )
When I returned the car they said sorry we can't pay you back what was charged extra. You have to file a complaint. This is not right! I feel scammed.
At arrival in cdmx (mexico city) we had rented a nother car at the airport.
We had to wait 1 hour and 15 minutes to recieve the car after payment, because I qoute "we are short staffed" while their was only 1 costumer before us and none after us.
When we eventually recieved the car, the car had damages all over and was not cleaned from the inside. I have video en photos of it all.
I would like a payment back what was charged to much in cancun please.
And as for service I would not recommand this company to anyone in mexico.
After recieving the payment the staff gets rude.

Similar to other experiences, they required insurance that was about 5 times the cost of the rental. Total scam. I even had a letter from my credit card company showing coverage of collision/theft up to $50k and they would not accept it. This is counter to their own policy posted on the third party booking site. Insurance for 4 days would have been about $4,000 pesos.
I then asked to cancel and get a refund on my card. They said they could not and that I had to request with the third party site.
Don’t waste your time with this place. Probably better to use a more reputable company at the airport.

SCAMMERS. I wish I had checked these comments before. I trusted Expedia to rent this car but once I got to the counter I was asked to pay 3 times the price. The office was 15 mins away from the airport so I didn’t feel like going back. I ended up paying double for a terrible car.

I just never gonna learn to check reviews online before booking a car.
Yes, car rent for six days was $2000 but I had to buy mandatory insurance from them for $4450. Ridiculous! I tried to explain them that if I was given an option to opt out from insurance and they are welcome to hold amount they need on the credit card. But, no, these scam artists will insist insurance or no rent.
Great, I just need the car for a event and don’t have another option. So run from then as far as you can.
PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE AND DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME HERE.

Our first and probably last experience with this company was extremely unpleasant. After preliminary agreements and confirmations with the help of Le Meridien Hotel staff of the rental of the car, the company refused to rent the car to us, explaining this by the fact that we have Russian surnames in the documents. In our opinion, this is a case of flagrant discrimination based on nationality. Therefore, in the future we will never deal with this company again and we do not advise others to do so either. We are very experienced travelers and this is the first time something like this happened ever.

I just never gonna learn to check reviews online before booking a car.
Yes, car rent for three days was $62, but I had to buy mandatory insurance from them for $230. Ridiculous! I tried to explain them that if I was given an option to opt out from insurance and they are welcome to hold amount they need on the credit card. But, no, these scam artists will insist insurance or no rent.
Great, that I’m not desperate and can walk away, but some people probably had no choice but to buy the insurance out of necessity to get a car.
PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE AND DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME HERE.

Unos abusivos te dan un precio en su página y estando ahi te lo aumentan considerablemente

These people only care about making commission on insurance and will try to lie and scam you to make their cut. They don't care if you get your prepaid rental and the refund procedure is also a joke. The HQ of this business needs to clear these corrupt staff out.

Do NOT book with Payless. We had a confirmed booking made online. When we arrived to pick up the car we were told they had none and the representative was unwilling to help us source another car. He just shrugged his shoulders and went off. The worst possible customer service. It will be interesting to see if Payless even bothers to respond to this.

Affordable rates, good cars, and friendly and accommodating customer service. We rented a car with Josue and he explained everything in detail. Helped us select a car. They have manual and automatic transmission. English is spoken here. We rented a compact car for 6 days with insurance for around U$260.00
TIPS:
Just make sure you take pictures of the car in, out and around. When car is returned, if damages were not incurred, verify the area is properly crossed out.

Wow, I should've read the reviews before I planned to get a car rental from this place. This place was completely horrible. It was my first car rental experiences. They wanted to hold a credit of 10000 pesos for the car which is a lot of money. I already had reservations with them. I thought I was only going show up and pick the car. I was completely wrong. They wanted the 10000 pesos amount to be hold on my card and they also wanted me to buy their own car insurance which I paid extra insurance with the booking agency. My internal alarms started to go off after they told me this. I told them to cancel my reservation and to refund me my money back. I took the bus to my destination. Keep away from this place!!!
