I loved this place, it's hidden behind the walls. It's like a secret garden. The church was beautiful and so peaceful I could be there for hours.
Amazing artworks in this church, including Bernini's The Ecstasy of Saint Theresa, a true masterwork of Baroque sculpture. There's a small offertory box on the left side of the chapel that contains the St. Theresa sculpture. If you put a euro in it and turn the dial, the lights will come on.
This basilica is very beautiful, its architecture and interior design is absolutely stunning, it isn’t the biggest church but it isn’t small either. They have very nice works of art, paintings, statues, sculptures and it also contains a crypt. It’s a great church to visit and I definitely enjoyed my time here and I would definitely recommend visiting this lovely basilica.

A beautiful place to visit. The opening yard is worth visiting in the evening to enjoy the water and light play of the fountain in front of the basilica.
Quiet and serene church, maintained by Indian Carmalite Fathers....it hosts the holy relic of St. Teresa of Avila! (One of her feet)
A place everyone should go in Rome! Because there you will see a huge church like an old roman temple, builded in favour of Saint Paul. The tomb of Saint Paul is in there and everyone should visit it.

Absolutely amazing. It is a very impressive building, no matter what you believe. It opens at 7 am. This is the best time to go to avoid the lines. We arrived at 06:50 and the lines were minimal outside. Inside there was no line to go up to the dome at all. I would say if you are not comfortable in confined spaces don’t go up the the upper exterior dome look-out. The spiral stairs are something else and with a massive line of people that could get challenging for those who don’t like tight spaces. Super incredible to see though at going so early we avoided all of the crowds!
It left a strong impression on me. Witnessing Bernini's masterpiece, the "Ecstasy of St. Teresa," in person is truly magnificent. This Baroque sculpture vividly portrays St. Teresa of Avila in a state of divine ecstasy, with an angel poised to strike her with an arrow of divine love. What's even better is that entry to this incredible church is free. If you appreciate beautiful art, this is a must-visit in Rome.

Absolutely beautiful church. Very nice atmosphere inside. So much art on the walls, ceilings, windows. Take a break from wonderful food part of experience in Trastevere. Have a moment of calm.
Came here because of Stanley Tucci's program "Searching for Italy." Beautiful, tranquil church off the beaten track - there were only two other people in the sanctuary with us. Definitely a plus not being around noisy crowds. Very much worth a detour.
definitely a sight to behold, although one would expect the basilica to be more famous worldwide considering what it has to offer. the light arrangement regarding the statue of Moses was particularly intriguing, along with the history and engineering behind it.

Proboszcza bez zbędnych słów, trafiało chyba do każdego z nas. Spowiedź jest w określonych godzinach, zachęcam by wcześniej sprawdzić. Będziemy tu wracać przy każdej możliwości.

Truly a hidden gem of Rome. For me the second most beautiful church I've ever seen, right after St. Peter's in Vatican. Huge, magnificent, with a small park, nicely decorated inside and outside. Also almost no tourist. The thing I like the most were the circles inside with pictures of all the Popes.

Santa Maria della Consolazione is a Roman Catholic church in Rome, at the foot of the Palatine Hill and located in the Campitelli area. This city has exceptional churches.
Beautiful basilica in Rome. It’s one of the 4 main churches in Rome. It is grand. Pictures of the popes circle just below the ceiling. In the front you can find St. Paul’s tomb and chains. Definitely must see in Rome
Neat church in Trastevere. The main floor is nice but the underground is an old house and small crypt which houses some beautiful mosaics. Costs 2-3€ for entrance for the crypt.
A large church with some excellent interior.
Of course there is another, more famous, St Peter's in Rome (though technically not as it is in the Vatican) but this hidden gem has no queues and no admission price but can still boast a Michaelangelo masterpiece (statue of Moses) and something unique: the chains that shackled St Peter when incarcerated in Rome.
Very interesting church displaying the head of John the Baptist. Make sure you have a good look at the pulpit.
Tucked away between two buildings off the main road (facing a large concrete plaza) leading to the colosseum you find this lovely hidden church which is actually big enough to be classified as a basilica. The draw card is the Moses sculpture with horns by Michelangelo. Magnificent and perfect as depicted in bible by the Renaissance master. The chains of St Peter which is the namesake Vincoli are in a glass display case. Definitely worth checking this out if you are in Rome and very local just tricky to find!
Houses the influential tempietto by Bramante, a perfect example of renaissance ideals in architecture. Tranquil setting. The church is beautiful and often used for weddings.
This Basilica is simply breath taking. It suffered fire damage in the 1800's but through funding and amazing work, it is restored and it is a sight to behold. It is well worth a trip from the city center and the portraits of the current and former popes is stunning.
Ancient church. Relaxing place to pray or visit if no religious services on. Personal recommendation as we got married there in 40 degree heat in 2003! Back in 2023 to celebrate our 20 year anniversary!
Stunning church containing Bernini’s “Ecstasy of Santa Theresa”. Would highly recommend for a visit if you are close to the area. Especially considering the crowd is very small compared to other basilicas around Rome.
Not mobbed like the other places and takes people who really want to see Bernini (maybe Dan Brown too but let me toss in Frank Gehry who designed the Beekman Tower overlooking Brooklyn Brdige based on the Bernini folds… not to be missed (and check out Moses next door while you’re at it) while most would focus on the wicked angel (does it not bother anyone that as he’s the agent of st Teresa’s passion that he appears almost too gleeful penetrating his arrow into her ?) and Teresa, don’t forget the patrons that paid for all this work to be done by the master Bernini are immemorialized forever in the art as well
A hidden Gem in Rome. Not many tourists, interesting history. The main attraction, of course, is the Moses by Michelangelo - it literally radiates colossal power and will definitely impact your emotions. Can easily compete with the David in Florence. An absolute must for any art/sculpture enthusiast.
Beautiful basilica just outside Ancient Rome. It’s one of the main churches in Rome. The scale is grand. Pictures of the popes circle just below the ceiling. In the front you can find St. Paul’s tomb and chains. A lovely mosaic is above the altar.
This basilica is just incredible. It's scale is massive with a breathtaking outdoor antrum. Parrots flit between huge palms and a beautiful statue of St Paul. The interior is next level in both size and beauty. There were very few visitors. Four ornate dedicated chapels are left and right of the main alter. The dome is gorgeously painted. The tomb of St Paul is here. The surrounding exterior grounds are unfortunately nothing of note, fairly run down. I highly recommend seeing this gem on the outskirts of Rome south east ( I think) of Trastevere. There are convenient toilettes as well as a small cafe and gift shop. The shop included wonderful glass mosaics for sale ( not cheap!). There is also a small underground excavated area for €1 entry.

I passed by this basilica by chance while i was jogging in the morning. It was magnificent from the outside with beautiful garden & statues. The guards said it’s free to visit and he gave me a blue soft clothes material bcz ofc we need to be more cover up to enter the basilica. This is the 2nd biggest basilica in Rome after Basílica San Pietro. In my opinion this Basilica is definitely grandeur … and since it’s in the Garbatella / Ostiense area so not so swamped by tourist, only by well planned/coordinated group of tourist.
They also have other area such as toilet, souvenirs shop, & bar/coffee shop.. & underground archaeological site.

Although we felt like we climbed a zillion steps to reach it, we were happy to visit the Church of Saint Peter in Chains on the Esquiline Hill, to see Michelangelo’s Moses. The church is stunning, the stonework amazing, and the statue of Moses and its surround are exquisite. So worth the hike. The basilica originally was dedicated to the apostles, but the popularity of the ‘cult of the chains’ that arose after the supposed chains that bound Peter during his captivity in Jerusalem (kept in a casket) were brought to the church.

Very underwhelming. Not worth a visit
a beautiful old hotel with a wonderful soul. we were offered to have our bakers carried up to the room when we arrived. the hotel is something extra ordinary for me who doesn't stay in hotels often. here is so beautiful and full of style. nice bed with 4 pillows, 2 hard and 2 soft. and the hotel is within walking distance of most things.
Very beautiful church! We came for the Sunday evening English mass and the service was very well done! The priest was very kind and so welcoming, the choir sang beautifully, and it truly felt like a very special church. The church paintings and relics are also spectacular. If you are in Rome looking for a mass to attend, definitely visit this church, you will feel very welcomed!
An unprepossessing exterior hides an amazing circular interior that is light and airy. The walls are decorated with (rather gruesome) frescoes of martyrdoms - some with lettered legends so you can identify who is who.
A little out of the way, but that makes it quiet. Entrance is on the north side. St Clements is nearby, and makes a good combination trip.

Very old but with pre bizantina fresco. The place was not busy when we visited so we had the time to wander around peacefully. I suggest early morning visit if you like to wander and take some pictures.

It is hard to put in words how breathtaking this relatively small, unassuming church is until you walk inside.
My pictures and the video, barely scratch the surface in documenting how impressive and priceless the works of art are along with how well preserved the years of history and tradition remain. It’s as if you’ve walked into a many centuries old time capsule.
I’ve been here on several occasions and have never experienced a crowd or noise. It’s a place to catch your breath from all the busyness of Rome and take some time to think, to reflect, and to be grateful.
Highly recommended. A true treasure amongst the many in Rome.

An interestingly unique Basilica that's not very well known or visited. It's situated on a one-way street but you might miss it because the Basilica itself is inside am archway and a garden.
There's a lot of art to be seen but what I found most interesting was the round altar in the middle. In fact, the entire main building is cylindrical.

The Church of Santa Maria della Consolazione is named after an icon of the Virgin Mary which was placed on this site to console criminals who were tossed down off the cliff above the church.

To enter Bramante's Tempietto, enter through Spanish Royal Academy, which has a separate Google Maps entry and has different hours than San Pietro in Montorio. It's just 30 meters north of the entrance to San Pietro in Montorio.
The best time to photograph Bernini's Rainaldi Chapel is when it's not sunny, because the chapel is lit by a south-facing window and this often causes photos to be backlit.

In Piazza di Popolo, two identical churches stand beside each other. The Santa Maria dei Mircoli and the Santa Maria in Montesanto are known as the Twin Churches because of their identical exterior structure. However, if one looks closely and compares both churches technically one will see that there are some slight differences.
These churches were originally designed by Carlo Rainaldi as part of a design for a monumental passage of Via del Corso. These constructions were commissioned by Pope Alexander VII while Cardinal Girolamo Gastaldi financed both churches. As a tribute, Gastaldi’s crest is present in each of the twin churches.

This is a very beautiful church! The architecture is amazing, and it was a very moving experience to see the chains. There is a beautiful stairway to either go up to the Basilica or come down. I enjoyed my visit here, and I have wonderful memories! I highly recommend a visit here!
Cardinal FX Nguyen Van Thuận’s remains lie here. Sometimes the church is not open during posted hours, particularly at 10 am. The evening at 4 is more reliable.

Although not at all the prettiest church in Rome, it has some aspects that make worth the visit. The church was built in spot where tradition marks the crucifixion of St Peter. Since the late 15th century the church has been entrusted to the Kingdom of Spain and you can find the Spanish Academy in the same complex. However, San Pietro receives most of its visitors because of Bramante’s tempietto (‘little temple’) a symmetrical round chapel built at the top of the crucifixion spot. Check opening times for the tempietto as THEY ARE NOT THE SAME as the actual church. The Church’s caretaker (as of 2022) is not friendly and may close the church even 15 minutes before the official closing time. Another cool aspects surrounding the church are the views (better if you keep climbing the Gianicolo), the Ossuary dedicated to Garibaldi’s Siege of Rome, the Fontana dell'Acqua Paola, and Anita Garibaldi’s mausoleum.

A masterpiece of design. To visit Rome and not experience this gem would be a loss. The scale and proportion, use of light and space all come together to create a stunning outcome.

Such a beautiful church in piaza del popolo! It is so worth visiting so you can appreciate the magnificent art and experience its unique spiritual atmosphere.
One of the two twin churches in the Piazza del Popolo. Dedicated to Mother Mary, the church has beautiful interiors and alter. Very peaceful and worth paying a visit.
Finally got to see, even if only from the outside because in the late afternoon it was closed, this Renaissance masterpiece, after having studied it on the books! It really is classicist, wonderfully proportioned and symmetric, set inside the courtyard like a jewel. Just perfect.

If you want to save some time and money, go to this church or one of many others since the Sistine chapel is very expensive. If you don't care about the bragging rights, the chapel is not recommended. This one is beautiful and peaceful. The cafe on the corner is very local.

Beautiful church with many chandeliers
Very unusual Church- very close to an ancient aquaduct, and with quite old buildings around it. Murals inside are faded, but really graphic scenes of early Christian suffering and Martyrdom. They really need restoration. 5 stars if they are easier to view
Was in Roma for a trip and stopped for Mass here. Very well done and in English at 10 AM on Sundays. If I am ever back, I will be stopping back again!
This church was closed for renovations for a part of my stay in Rome. I almost forgot about it but remembered and ventured out for a visit. A beautiful, unique church def worth a visit. The renovations are still ongoing but looks like they've tightened up and restored some of the frescas on surrounding walls. They are unique from any other church I've been to in Rome for the last two months. They each individually represent the persecution of Christians with various forms of torture... awful, awakening and unusual representation of art in church. As it happens I've crashed an Italian wedding. The church was open and while I was there a wedding happened. Truly special.
Beautiful church! We came for the Sunday evening mass in English. By friendly people, Father John was so kind. He offered to let me do the first reading at mass. The building is so reverent and elegant. Even my Presbyterian boyfriend loved the strong sense of community and camaraderie. A true place of veneration to God.

Il quadrante polacco trova in questa chiesa il suo fulcro. Ambasciata adiacente e ben due viuzze dedicate a questo popolo. La facciata non è molto pronunciata e si fa difficoltà a distinguere l'ingresso dal portone di un palazzo. Chiesa barocca molto raccolta ma suggestiva, soprattutto molto vissuta dalla comunità polacca della capitale. Dentro alcune effigi degne di nota e una veste appartenuta a Papa Wojtyla . Se vi capita entrate un attimo.

In this church, on 10 August 1904, Angelo Roncalli, the future Pope John XXIII, was ordained a priest; the event is remembered by a plaque affixed during his pontificate.
Since 1953 the church has become the seat of the "Mass of the artists", a singular initiative conceived in 1941 by presbyter and art historian Ennio Francia; after changing several places for worship, the liturgical event took place in the church in Piazza del Popolo, where every Sunday, for over sixty years, this Eucharistic celebration has been celebrated with representatives of the world of culture and art. It is also in this church that the funeral of people linked to the world of culture and television is often celebrated. For these reasons, it is also known as "Church of the artists".

Church of Santa Susanna. First church was consecrated here in 330 A.D. But present church was built in 1603 by Italian architect Carlo Maderno (1556-1629). Admission is free but any donations are welcome and highly appreciated. Rome, Lazio, 🇮🇹Italy 🇮🇹. August 28, 2014.
First of all, this tough year has made every church so empty!!! What a pity :-(

Nice but it's empty on Sunday just 2 person
A beautiful 17th century church in the heart of Trastevere.
near the ruins of the Neronian aqueduct there is one of the oldest circular churches of the fifth century where frescoes of the martyrology are preserved, 34 panels frescoed by Pomarancio, Antonio Tempesta and aids, some paintings belong to the period of the nineteenth century. Immediately to the left, against a pillar, an episcopal seat known as San Gregorio Magnio, a marble chair from the imperial period to which the armrests and the dosale were chiseled.
Archaeological excavations have revealed the presence, under the church, of a Mithraeum of the II-III century, which preserves part of the rich fake decoration. marble inlays, and the Castra Peregrina, barracks of the provincial auxiliaries.

Got married here Dec 1980 and the brothers were kind enough to perform a blessing service celebrating 25 years for myself and my wife early in 2006. A beautiful church with a fascinating history. I don't understand the one star reviews.
Piękny i nie duży Kościół Świętego Stanisława Biskupa i Męczennika Patrona Polski. Piękny wystrój i styl w jakim jest przyozdobiony świątynia pozwala poczuć klimat tego miejsca. Podobała mi się liturgia słowa sprawowana przez proboszcza tej parafii, oczywiście po polsku.
Lovely churches (two identical) next to each other - very well preserved next to a large open piazza - easy to walk around
We attempted to visit St Susanna yesterday (16 April 2019) as part of a religious studies trip on St Genesius but the church is closed. Very disappointing, wish they would better update their information for the public.
Quite possibly my favorite spot in Rome. The Church is home to the Tempietto, a small commemorative martyrium built by Donato Bramante. The area around the Tempietto is a quiet, isolated area where you can typically find artists/students drawing. It’s a peaceful place and great for getting away from the crowds of Rome. It is out of the way and quite a hill to climb.
But the renovation to the museum around it is nice and makes the space handicap accessible.
The major critique is the hours the area is open. So make double sure it’s open when you’re on your way.

Beautiful two churches next to each other, near piazza de poplo one of the famous tourist attraction of rome after vatican city and Colosseum. Very nice and spacious place to visit and relax. Highly crowded on weekends and you can see some street talents of rome doing different activities playing music, dancers etc. Good conectivity via bus and metro. Good fountains are also there. Overall a good place to visit , relax and take photos. Chillax.BEWARE OF PICK POCKETERS ROME IS FULL OF THIEVES, TAKE CARE OF YOUR WALLET SPECIALLY MEN.

Lovely at night. Popular for mass or catholic weddings. Lots of nearby restaurants - even late at night. Feels safe and not too touristy. Highly recommend! 💕

Decent little church at the St. Bernard square.
Nun nicht mehr allgemein zugänglich! Hier war in der Antike das Ende der Thermen! Gegenüber der Kirche S. Maria della Vittoria auf der einen Seite und San Bernardo alle Terme auf der anderen ist diese Barockkirche der Zisterzienserinnen gelegen, die auch von der National-Kirche der Vereinigten Staaten genutzt wurde. Seit letztere nach San Patrizio auszog, ist die Kirche leider nicht mehr allgemein zugänglich. Auch nicht für unsere Susanna. Meine Skizze zeigt die Platzanlage mit dem Moses-Brunnen gegenüber.
Nice church with MODERN ART in between old church art. We have not seen this kind of modern mindednes in church' s in Rome before.
+JMJ. During my almost annual pilgrimage to Rome, I stopped in to pick up tickets to attend the Papal Audience and would sometime participate in the Holy Mass. Not because it was offered in American English, but because it was the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, another opportunity to hear the Word of God and to receive Jesus, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity through the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar. Also, due to my interest to interact with others who were doing what I wanted to do, live in Rome, I spent one evening in St Susanna's library engaged in a Bible study with seminarians and other pilgrims (unknown to myself.) It was a meaningful and insightful, though brief, study. Also, any visit I make to the Churches of Rome are not so much to study the architecture as to admire it and the art and spirituality enhancing, images and statues therein. St Susanna has much to admire with the addition of an excavated area underneath the Church exposed for history-minded pilgrims and tourists. It is a house of worship and prayer well worth a visit.
This is no longer the American national church. The church was closed in 2013 "for repairs", but no work seems to be going on. As from August 2017, the American expatriate community is permanently worshipping in San Patrizio. Relationships between the Cistercian nuns, who own the church, and the Paulist Fathers, who minister to the expatriates, broke down completely. In 2019, there is still no hope of anything happening here. Could people pass the word around, to avoid disappointment?

Amazing Architecture. Run by the Pulists, very open and friendly. Being an English speaking Church in Rome it is very popular for Americans.
