Excellent park with section for small dogs.

The only thing I’d recommend about this park is its location & proximity to the riverfront. In terms of size, amenities, & cleanliness, this is not a great park. Very small. No water. Always floods with stagnant water for days when it rains.

Sign says this is for residents of the nearby buildings only but that is not currently (august 2023) enforced via key fob or other means. Great, large park with lots of poop bags & a nice view of the river. No water fountain built in, some areas flood with rain but overall the turf & sand is clean.

Large dog park with a water fountain. Mulch base does very well after the rain, plenty of room for large dogs to run around. Separate area for small dogs & lots of room for humans to sit. No shade but water helps.

Wow!!very clean park family atmosphere also pet owners walk there dogs there kids play just a nice neighborhood park

Very basic outdoor space next to a huge police parking lot and an empty park filled with overflowing garbage pails and trash everywhere. No other dogs were there. They did have a working water fountain for the dogs!

A nice area to bring your family out to eat, have a picnic. Or let your kids play in the water fountains or man made lake/pool.

Great playground for a 2yo! The gate does latch but it almost closes. Lots of shade and plenty of seating.

I absolutely adore frequenting this splendid locale, not only for the delightful picnics but also for the serene moments spent immersed in captivating literature, leisurely strolls along nature's pathways, invigorating jogs that enliven the senses, and an array of delightful activities that one could possibly envision partaking in within the embrace of a picturesque park. The sheer joy that emanates from every visit is truly immeasurable, as the ambiance exudes a harmonious blend of tranquility, natural beauty, and endless possibilities for recreation and rejuvenation. From savoring delectable snacks on a cozy blanket amidst the shade of towering trees to losing oneself in the enchanting pages of a captivating book, each visit to this sanctuary of serenity nurtures the soul and invigorates the mind. The park, with its expansive green spaces, vibrant flora, and shimmering waters, offers an oasis of respite from the bustling city life, allowing one to reconnect with the simple pleasures of existence and bask in the embrace of nature's magnificence. In the embrace of this haven, time seems to pause, granting an opportunity to revel in the essence of life itself. With every step, every breath, and every moment spent here, the heart is filled with gratitude for the treasures bestowed by this haven of blissful retreat. Truly, this park is an embodiment of harmony, a testament to the wonders of the natural world, and an eternal source of solace and inspiration for all who seek solace in its embrace.

Had an elegant high tea on 5/29. Perfect.

We have two small dogs and stayed in the small dog section. The humans were all very nice. Most of the dogs in the small section stayed with the owners and didn't play too much. We were also warned not to take them to the big dog area bc of a situation that happened to a puppy. He was side swiped from a pack of large dogs running, and this innocent accident broke the small pups neck, and he didn't survive. Just be safe and keep the small pups in the small dog area. Especially if they like to run with the big boys.
Also, it is not recommended to have on nice shoes because the ground up powder from the gravel gets all over the place and can create lots of dust.

I don't know why they have gravel instead of grass. The concrete sidewalks leading up to it were cool enough to not burn my dog's feet (the temps was in the 70s), so I thought the gravel would be the same temperature. So my dog and I stepped into the park and she was acting like her feet hurt. I put my hand down onto the gravel to feel it and it was too hot for my dog's feet! I was already apprehensive about the gravel being rough and sharp, but in addition it gets hotter than the sidewalks! No wonder there were no other dogs there! Please replace the gravel with grass!
In addition, I then took my dog for a walk along 39th St. and when I came back to the dog park area and where my car was parked, I saw 2 very shady and thug looking young men go up to the park and jumped over the fence and were looking around. It appears that they were up to no good. Thank goodness my car was close by so I got in quickly and my husband and I quickly drove away. So safety is a concern too.

Loved this park and space! Coffee place nearby. Beautiful statues, places to sit, picnic, or even film a movie 🎬

This is NOT for the park itself, it is lovely. Owners, beware. At approximately 5:50PM today, several owners in the park were approached by uniformed officers and told that dogs needed to be leashed in the dog park. We were also told that all dogs needed to be muzzled when outside in the District of Columbia. I will update this once my complaints with DPR and the police are processed, but in the meantime, beware.

Great local hangout for families. Plenty of lawn with grass for playing and picnics. There is a fenced playground for small kids. There's an area in the middle without much grass where people come with their dogs and sometimes let them off the leash when they are good. Very friendly park.

Huge but can you believe it that there is no working water station for dogs?! Unbelievable, they have 2 or 3 tab water stations and non of them wirk for a long time.

We visited from out of town, and our two dogs were happy here. I sought this park out because it is not astroturf, which retains an awful urine smell. (The S Street dog park was pungent.) There is water and shade, and there were about 10 dogs to play with on a warm Tuesday afternoon. Other owners were at minimum moderately attentive to their dogs, so it was a relatively safe and pleasant place to spend an hour.

We love taking our pups to the city dog park. I am happy to let them run around with the other dogs for a bit, but they can become overstimulated when we stay more than 5 minutes. So we walk them around the beautiful neighborhood. It's always a fun time. All the dogs are all well-behaved.

Great park in a beautiful neighborhood. Jogged here during a busy time of the day and the park was coming to life nicely after winter. My favorites are the sculptures to Lincoln and McLeod Bethune.

Great place to let the pups run around and tire. Other dog owners are kind and attentive for their pups which I appreciate. Not really any grass during winter (if at all) so not that aesthetically pleasing except for all the cute dogs running about.

Guarantee you dog will get dirty

Very simple but busy dog park, small, but it does kind of have a hill which is nice. And there is water for the dogs.

It took us 12 years to make this happen in the neighborhood. It’s wonderful to have a gated dog park so that pets can run free. We’re very proud of this place.

Nice, quiet, and clean. Good sized city dog park with separation for large and small dogs. Perfect for my older dog because it's less trafficked than other parks and he's a little too old to play rough anymore. Only big con is that it's all dirt so gets very muddy after rain or snow. There's also a mosquito problem but that's everywhere in DC. The surrounding park is gorgeous and has a little community garden area.

The dog park itself is rather small. A large, spacious park is immediately adjacent, and is a much better space for dogs to run in. However, some in the neighborhood have lately decided that their monthly rec league game trumps the dozens of dogs that play and exercise there daily. Evidently, dogs in the larger park is enough of a public menace that they feel the need to waste police resources to get people with dogs to periodically relocate, and yesterday, they physically removed all gates around the park. Congrats to those with so much hostility toward dogs that they'd rather the park get next to no use at all.

Really great big wide open field, perfect for letting your dog get their zoomies out with free running. The only issue is that there are no benches for humans, no two step gates when entering, and very limited shade. Still, it's a great space for letting your dog run and run until they are tired.

Great dog park! I take my dog here all the time during the MORNING and EVENING. Although, I have had my dog mildly attacked by irresponsible dog owners who allow their dogs to bark excessively (5 or more times in a row) and nip at other dogs to “play” during the mid day. But overall I have had good experience here.

Nice dog park, but the gem is the "people" park right next door. Wish there were feature for the dogs to enjoy beyond just gravel and smells. Probably the best dog park in the area though.

Its a great park all together. I do some teaching there for Power Tots on Saturdays. However the dogs are suppose to be leashed and no body really follows that rule. Letting the dogs run right up to us and the kids.

This is one of the best parks to go trick and treating during around. The houses in East capital street takes Halloween very seriously.

A lovely dog park. Please donate and volunteer with 11th and Bark, the group that supports this public space.

Cute little dog park! Lots of dogs here everytime I went, but minimal scuffles between the dogs!

Why is this dog park covered in what I can only describe as gravel dust?? Even a dog just picking up a little speed while running kicks up a cloud of dust. Wrestling dogs get especially coated, and when the dust mixes with any saliva from play biting, it makes like a gross paste on their fur. My black dog was quickly covered in dust and I soon had dust all over my sandals and feet and dusty paw prints on my pants. I’m not picky about dog parks. I assumed that any fenced area would be fine. But this is next level. Don’t come here unless you have time to give your dog (and yourself!) a bath right after.
The latch on the inner gate also did not work. I couldn’t get it to go into the groove, so unfortunately that gate doesn’t close properly.

Great dogs and great people - it's what makes a good dog park! The gravel gets a bit dusty, and astroturf would get this dog park a full 5 stars. Water available for dogs, and a tap to fill up with filtered water for their humans. Park has an area for both large and small dogs.

It was just okay in my mind. One of the reasons I go to dog parks is for my dog to socialize with other dogs and for me to chat with some of the pet owners. All of the owners seem to be in their own little bubble. The dogs look like they were having a good time though and that's all that counts!

Vast space, pretty sure about an acre, that would make a fantastic dog park. Unfortunately, it is poorly maintained, grass was very long and full of insects, one trash bin serving the entire park, that was full and attracting all kinds of flies and mosquitoes, not even one bench or large rock or anything for dog owners to set, so you have to be on your feet the whole time, no water fountain and above all, people don't seem to take cleaning after their dogs seriously. Very disappointing and completely wasted space.

Great dog park in dc! Small and quaint!

Great little oasis for dogs and humans alike! There are lots of amenities for the pets (tennis balls, pools, water taps) and benches and shade for their owners. Vibe tends to be quite friendly and relaxed. Busiest right before and after work hours, through the week.

So fun!

Dogs are tight.

This is a nice little dog park with separate small/large dog areas. There is a small gazebo with lighting and several benches for seating. Solar motion-activated lights help visibility at night. There's also a water fountain and hose for filling drinking bowls if you have a thirsty pup.

Nice park for children and pets. Everyone has been welcoming. Happy environment

I've taken a variety of dogs to this park and they have always been well behaved but some people have dogs who probably shouldn't be unleashed. It's a nice spot people seem clic-ish but the dogs are always sweet and familiar. Any issues a dog may have are to be viewed by parents. If a dog attacks another dog the parent should always approach the owner of the dog that was attacked instead of just leashing up and leaving. The water needs to be turned back on. But overall it's a nice sized park with a variety of dogs majority of whom are sweet. Good location not far from local grocery, stores and bars.

I enjoyed this park (and so did my dog). The door latch is a bit janky, but aside from that, it is a well maintained park for that morning puppy social.

Great community dog park close to home. Usually full of friendly faces and some good dogs. Occasionally there will be a dog or two that are too rowdy for the crowd, but that’s not the norm.

This is a good dog park, clean and tidy. It is on the small side but there is plenty of room for fun. Please note that there is no separate space for small dogs here. *** Please note that the field next door is NOT the dog park. ***

Not a public dog park. Came here on Sunday at 10am. Was locked. There were signs for doggie fun time for 3-5pm. It looks like a neighborhood gate kept place. Wasn’t super impressed from looking at it either. It’s entirely dirt. Was lightly snowing Sunday. Even if it was open, I’d have to think about it bc it was already muddy.

Love our local park! Great neighbors and lots of space.

I mostly go to take my fur baby to play at the dog park. But overall the park it self is clean. It's never a lot of people there but the garden is beautiful when its in bloom.

Nice park, what you'd expect.

Nice park, no grass inside the dog area but lovely park outside. Parking is easy to miss. But street parking can be found.

Love having this dog park in the neighborhood! Everyone is super responsible about their dogs and it's just an all around good atmosphere

Beware they replaced the ground cover with low quality small wood ships. My dog ingested a some when playing fetch. End result 2000 vet bill, and no longer going to that dog park.

Great park with lots of area and lots of great owners to meet and chat with. They have water for the dogs. It’s a gravel park. I go often with dogs I watch for neighbors and I’ve never had a bad experience there. They even have lights for when the sun starts setting earlier.

This is a decent dog park for the area. One note however is that the large grassy area is NOT the dog park but Francis Field which is used by humans. The dog park is the small fenced in area next to the field.

I'm torn about this dog park! Park is a stretch, it's just a run. It's completely gravel. The seating was comfortable and cool, but the dust kicked up from the gravel from all the running. There's water from the ground fountains as you walk away from the run, but no water in the dog rum

The dogs and I went there during the week, and it was empty. Nice setting, but no dog play equipment, almost nowhere for humans to sit, and all gravel surface which can’t feel great on the dogs paws made it a less desirable visit than I had hoped.

Was on a vacation and this was the closest dog park to our hotel. It's not terribly large but worked for what we needed. It did have a small/large dog separation. Unfortunate that it's all dirt which leads to mud. It would be nice to have more grass. Otherwise I like the water fountain so the dogs could easily get fresh water. Also had benches if needed. Wouldn't make it a return if I had other options.

Dog loves it. Good, quiet location. It's fairly clean and we'll kept-up.

Wish there was water here but overall great experience for my boy! Community very friendly and welcoming! Lots to see and do and most all the restaurants with patio seating are very dog friendly.

Super fun playground with interesting installations! Dog park and gardens nearby as well!

Similar to other dog parks in DC, and gets muddy pretty easily. This park tends to be have less mud issues than other parks though.

Interesting to visit from landscape design/urban design. Nice view to water

Used to be great. Unfortunately when they replaced the grass with turf they cut the useable area by about 70%. The majority of it is a muddy mulch mess now anytime there's a light shower. Maintenance does do a great job of filling holes and fixing issues quickly. Just wish they would've maintained the size when putting in turf.

Very small neighborhood dog park! Unfortunately, there were no other dog there while my pup and I visited but there were plenty of balls and tug toys there for us to play with.

The dog park is a typical enclosed fenced dog park, however it has several smaller enclosures for dogs that don't get along with others. It is surrounded by a nice park with a great playground, and a community garden. You can also walk through the woods on the other side of the road on some paths. It's a nice place for an outing.

Cute dog park.

I don’t have a dog, but if I did I think this park would contain it very well, unless he could jump very high, which if I did have a dog I would want him to jump very high, so I probably wouldn’t bring him here often, but it would be better than having him pee all over the sidewalks, which is starting to stink up the Navy Yard, volumes of dog piss every day, normally within 3 feet of apartment entrances.
And there’s a neat windmill art sculpture at the corner that’s mesmerizing.

They use organic manure .. now my dog smells like a Public restroom at a farm

Wonderful dog park! Gated in very well and has a mulch ground, plenty of benches, and big trees providing shade for pups and their humans. Also next to a kid park so perfect for families, too.

Virginia Avenue Park is one of those small parks that only locals know about. The nearby highway hides it well.
The park includes a dog park, a community garden, and green space with several picnic tables. A bike trail goes by it offering beautiful views of the Washington Monument.

Great location and lots of room for the dog to run. We visit all the time! I just wish there were a few more trees and some interesting activities in the dog park (a big rock or some bushes or something). It’s kind of barren and is only engaging for the dog if there are other puppers around.

Really large dog park and never crowded which is fantastic. Gravel is finer than other dog parks which is great but can get messier when it rains. There's also a grassy area outside of the dog park. There are free poop bags and water fountains.
Subtracting 1 star because night lighting is terrible. Kinda scary to bring your dog here at night.

They need to re-sod this park but it’s nice that it’s here. A lot of happy dogs here :)

One of the larger parks and not made up of the gritty gravel as other parks in the area. Has a water fountain/bowl station and large and small dog areas. The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is they don't have any lights on in the evening and it is quite close to a very traffic-heavy stretch of interstate.

I love this dog park. Everyone’s pups have been well-behaved and the space is awesome. Kiddie pools in the summer and folks there even after dark in the winter. Very fun.

Plenty of space for big dogs. A separate smaller space for either small dogs or if your dog has a tendency to play a little rough for others. Water and bags provided. However mostly dirt very little grass.

Great park! My doggie loves it there and pups are pretty friendly too.

A couple months ago a short fat crazy lady named "Lovely lisa", threatened to call the cops on my dog because he was a pitbull. I guess it's not the first time she's done this to someone, and she has a reputation for doing crazy things like that. My dog did absolutely nothing wrong, she just felt entitled to demand I leave because I had a pitbull.
I go everyday, so some of the regulars stayed there just in case the cops did come to back me up. I don't think she is mentally all there.
Besides the occasional crazy person, it's not a bad park. The only problem is that it has a drainage problem after it Rains and takes a couple days to dry out.

There are never any dogs there! I like to bring my pups to the dog park to socialize with other pups (they aren't big on fetch) but I have brought my pups by several times on Saturdays and there are never any dogs there!
If it were a bit larger or had some places to explore, I'm sure they'd have a blast exploring it alone, but its basically just a gravel rectangle. Oh well.

A simple, clean neighborhood dog park frequented by well behaved dogs and considerate owners. It's a fenced-in gravel area with a couple of benches. We don't need anything fancy as my dog enjoys herself socializing with the other dogs and convincing dog owners to scratch her butt. Parking is pretty convenient as long as there isn't anything going on at the ball park. If you're going to drive to get groceries at Whole Foods, why not bring the dog along for some fun at the dog park while your spouse does the shopping? Win-win.

Nice large park and clean

In terms of dog park amenities, this one is pretty bare, especially if you compare to parks like the Shirlington dog park, or the parks in Rockville, like Cabin John (we're dog park frequenters). On my first visit: the water was turned off for the winter, there were no dog bowls and no bags provided. However, it was clean, the gravel/rock was a great selection for the park that was easy on my dog's paws and doesn't get him all muddy. Even though it's pretty bare, it's only of the only dog parks in this area, so I appreciate that it's here at all and the owners I met there are very friendly. And my dog actually loved it more than the fancier dog parks we've visited; I think he was more social because it's small, I think he felt more comfortable. It was also clean. So we'll be going back. It will probably be our first pick on the weekends.

Very nice little dog park. The best part is the much larger grassy park right next to it. If there is no one playing soccer it's a fantastic place for dogs to run around. Much larger than the actual dog park.

Honestly the best dog park that exists. My baby loves it here, she runs around and makes new dogo friends. Very friendly owners as well, they are always aware of their dogs. What I love most about the park is how crowded it gets and the dogs have a lot of friends to play with. In summer the pool is awesome. LOVE THE VIBES AND LOVE THE DOGOS <3

Sub-par at best. It’s sad to see, considering how many dog there are in DC, and the myriad of opportunities that they have to be able to facilitate these dogs in a fun manner. I’ve seen small towns with more entertaining parka for dogs. It really doesn’t take a whole lot of engineering to make it fun for the dogs to jump and play on different surfaces. I turned my dog out and she looked at me dazed and confused as to why I brought her to essentially a fenced in parking lot.

What the park lacks in beauty, it more than makes up for it by attracting all sorts of wonderful dogs and their people. A great spot to meet dogs and people!

A well maintained dog park with running water and benches. Usually has at least a dog or two any time of day, and can get very busy, while still providing plenty of space for your pooch to sniff around. Unfortunately, it is pea gravel, so Snuffles and Fido will get pretty gnarly if they roll around.

Great big dog park in the city. Lots of benches and tree boxes. Sometimes there's scuffles with the dogs but that's true if any park that gets busy. They do fun special events occasionally like Doggy costume party at Halloween.

Disclaimer: I'm not a dog owner, but two of my good friends are and I am the "dog father" of their little pug, JJ. It's JJ that brings me to Lansburgh Dog Park in Waterfront. My friends and I live on Capitol Hill, but sometime the dog parks up there are crowded or don't have a small dog portion to the park.
Lansburgh is great because it's not as busy as other dog parks and has a section for small dogs and then another section for bigger dogs. Each portion has it's own watering hole with dog bowls.
If it rains, the dog park gets pretty muddy, but other than that, this place is a hidden gem. If you want a more quiet, less busy dog park, go here!
