This place is super cute and the cakes are delicious. I went here for brunch (yes, cake for brunch) and found a place seat. The staff is also very nice and helpful.

I visited Arashiyama with my wife back in 2018. Most visitors return to Kyoto by the end of a day, while we decided to stay. Everything closes, except for Ranzan, which saved our lives with a beatiful omurice just before closing. We still remember this meal. Thank you
Be prepared for a line up. While this was not the case before the pandemic, it is the case now. This joint has become a very popular destination. The coffee is good, thick, black, strong and not too bitter, smoky or pungent. It is very enjoyable. Goes well with the sando, the french toast and the pudding. Sit down, enjoy a lazy Saturday/Sunday morning cuppa with your loved one. Talk about all the good things kawarmachi has to offer, how by the time it's going to get busy with tourists galore, how you are reminded, to not ride your bike but walk to be considerate to all, so and so forth.

If you want respite from the endless parade of people this cafe on 2F above the Fushimi-inari station is your sanctuary.
With great views out both large windows you can watch the trains and pains go by, and laugh at all the clueless people running whilst the railway stop sign chimes sing!
I had the keema curry - it was exceptional and came with a little mason jar salad which was cold, fresh and crisp and has the lightest application of a citrus dressing to cut through. The curry itself was tasty and is quite a large portion.

Historical coffee shop in Kyoto. Beautiful authentic atmosphere from the 1900 and good coffee.
I love the people who run this place ! They are very sweet and cheerful people! The food was very good! The omelette rice was so filling and fresh . It tasted just like it was made at home . They play nice jazz and it’s a very comfy spot . They have a big table if you bring lots of friends .
We went there after 3pm. Basically no Q. The staff told us our dining time from 3:20pm-4:30pm. The food took a little longer to serve. We were ok for the wait and the French toast came out so fluffy and nice! Highly recommended for their French toast. I like their logo 🤪
A great local experience! The owner is super hard working, zipping around making sure everyone is served and everything is just so. It was great to sit and watch the locals read their newspapers and chat over coffee. We had the coffee and toast special, and an egg toast with coffee. Only downside is smoking is allowed inside…
I couldn't find any other restaurants serving breakfast on this part of Arashiyama, and not many serving lunch with reliable hours, so Cafe Ranzan kind of has the market cornered.
The food and drinks are good but are a little overpriced, in my opinion. Quality of service varies depending on who is serving you.

Was there for breakfast service. They switch to lunch around 10:30. We had to wait in a line outside for about 30 minutes to get a table. This was on a Monday around 10AM.
The french toast was very good, and I recommend it. Very light, eggy, and fluffy. However, the pancakes were a surprisingly huge letdown. I've had some bad pancakes, but these were really bad. No redeeming qualities. Bland, dry, and not good even doused with butter and syrup. The iced coffee au lait was good though.

I had breakfast at this place during my whole trip and it was amazing.
Food: very well done, freshly made and tasty.
Service: everyone is very polite and the food is served fast. If you do not speak Japanese, that is okay: they have an English menu.
Environment: they separate smokers from non-smokers and I did not smell any cigarret while there.

Very tasty food in a decorative setting. Excellent staff and gaijin friendly.
The egg sandwich is eggsellent!! Also got a beef panini which was only okay.
The iced latte was not made properly (they poured ice into a hot latte so it just tasted like a watered down lukewarm latte)

I wasn’t expecting to have good breakfast options in Japan, but wow this place blew me away. Order the French toast and the egg sandwich - both were amazing. The French toast was probably the best I have had in my entire life. Additionally, their original black coffee is so flavorful! The only thing I will say is that they seemed to be really understaffed so it made our experience slower and the line was 1 hour.

Great little spot for some coffee and pastries. We grabbed a bunch of different ones but my favorite was the cheesecake.
French toast and pudding are excellent in terms of texture and favour. Need to queue for about 15 minutes to get in at around 4pm.
We came here very late at 5:30, and despite shutting at 6 they let us in to eat even though last orders must have been called. We ordered the beef curry and omelette rice which was hot, full of flavour and came out within minutes of ordering! Totally recommend if you are visiting the bamboo forest! Thank you!

Across from Arashiyama train station and stopped in to check it out. They have authentic ginger ale with actual ginger in it, it was fantastic. Got a ham sandwich which was basic but good, still cant understand why you cant get cheese on a sandwich anywhere in japan, but oh well. It came with a little salad which was yum. Got a cappuccino, too. Place is dated and nothing special but quiet, nice jazz music and lots of different drinks/desserts on the menu.
This quiet little coffee shop is upstairs, but it is well worth going to. The owners dont speak English, but there was an English menu there. We found them to be very friendly and pleasant. We only had cake, but it was very nice and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There is a big window that looks out over the the level crossing and nearby train station, so plenty to watch while relaxing

初めて行きましたが、気さくな店員さんでゆっくり過ごせました♪炙りチーズのタコライスはさっぱりでおすすめ。妊娠中ですがトッピングで目玉焼きがつけたく、頼んだところ両面焼きしてもらえました。デザートは、外はサクサクで中はふわふわのアメリカンショートケーキとカフェラテをいただきました！また行きたいカフェです^^

Friendly staff, great tasting snacks and drinks, lovely cool air-conditioned building and super-fast wi-fi. A hidden gem of a place.
Fun Japanese version of European dining. We waited about 15 minutes for a table at 8:20am. The interior was nicely decorated. We ordered a sandwich each and french toast each, this was a lot of food and we couldn't finish it. The egg sandwich was light and crispy with toasted bread. The standout though was the french toast which was so fluffy and lightly crispy, served with maple syrup, it seems like a Japanese version of french toast. To pay you take your bill to the till at the front. We spent 4200 yen for four dishes.

Very nice and cozy old-timey coffee shop with a sweet old gentleman as bartender. The breakfast is a great deal, enjoy the pancakes or toast. The prices are not expensive at all, although we had the best coffee in Japan at Colorado's.

よしもと祇園花月の近くにあり、吉本の芸人がよく利用するらしい。自分がいたときも、アインシュタインの稲田が入店していた。あと、おいでやす小田が店の前を歩いてて、ファンの人に声をかけられていた。そういうのを見つつ、牛すじカレーを食べ、コーヒーを飲んだ。

Great place to stop by after visiting the Nijo-jo castle. Delicious toasts and coffee. The atmosphere is very chill, classic and quiet. We relaxed very nicely after a long afternoon. Cash only. Highly recommended.

The hotel receptionist recommended this cafe as the most popular cafe visited by locals now. We arrived at 9am and there was already a long Q. Waited for about 45mins before we got our sits. There were some tourists like us too, so not so local as we expected.
We ordered all the main dishes in the menu except for the fruit sandwiches. The egg sandwiches were the best, toasted or not depends on preference. The french toast was good too! But the hotcakes was not fluffy as i imagined. It was actually dry. We didn’t like it, but i think this type of dry but thick hot cakes are popular with Japanese as we tried a few places before and they tasted the same. Coffee was decent. Just come for the sandwiches but not too sure if it was worth waiting that long.

Very rude old man in charge, without manners. No respect for the schedule and hours they announce on the door. No culture service and work culture. A deceive for Kyoto.
Overall the ambience was good. Food wise, the French toast was the best out of all that we ordered. A definite must try. The egg sandwiches are also highly recommended as both bread and egg are soft and fluffy.
Besides that, I felt that the coffee latte was rather bland and the hotcakes and pudding are average at best.

It’s perfect atmosphere to rest during the tour in arashiyama! There are too many people in the center and too long to wait for the coffee at arabica coffee. It’s good option to choose!
Probly one of the last smoking cafes in town. Love this place.

The master here is incredibly polite and, really, you can’t beat the price (¥350 for a morning set (coffee & toast)). The inside also a great classic look. I highly recommend stopping by here if you’re ever in the neighborhood.

This morning, I spent some time at Cafe Potari to study and read. I had Cappuccino and a Honey Butter Toast with morning add-ons. Everything was delicious, especially the Cappuccino. I like the interior and decoration. Unfortunately, there is no WiFi, but that is just a minor point. Open since 2 August 2022. I will be back!

たまたま通りがかって、休憩に入店しました。カレーとアイスコーヒーを注文。ちょうどお昼時で、窓側の席は光が差し込んで気持ちいい。色んな旨味が溶け込んだカレーは、ホッとする味。アットホームな店内で、ゆっくりさせて頂きました。次はピラフを食べたいです！
前から気になっててやっと寄れました。倉庫の様なお店。天井が高くて暗くて雰囲気が素敵。好みの味の豆を選んで注文出来ます。ケニアのアイスコーヒー、美味しかった♡
味も良いが主人や集まる客も良い人ばかりでお店を物語っている。
Can’t beat the classic vibe and decor. The owner is so polite and provides great suggestions. Coffee and toast for 350Y is a great deal. It’s nice to find these mom and pop shops in a major city. Wide array of coffee and tea options. 10/10 recommend.

「喫茶 ウィンズ」さんです。わりと小ぢんまりしたお店ですが、南側の通りに面した側が全面ガラス張りなので、解放感があります。こちらのお店は、ドリンクメニューが少なくて、ブレンドコーヒー・紅茶￥330、アイスコーヒー・アイスティー￥350のみです。フードメニューは、サンドイッチ￥600、カレーライス￥600、ピラフ￥550、オムライス￥650、スパゲティ(イタリアン・ミートソース)￥600 です。私は、午後にうかがいピラフとコーヒーをいただきました。いわゆる喫茶店のピラフという感じで、私はわりと好きな感じのピラフでした。コーヒーは、今どきのカフェに比べると浅煎りな感じですが、標準的な感じです。(価格は2020年3月時点のものです。)

Very cute shop, service was strictly Japanese but we got on well enough. The (I'm guessing) owner suggested his breakfast special of coffee and toast. Was great.

A quiet and well decorated coffee shop with good quality of specialty coffee. The 300B valve amplifier and Dali speaker made the atmosphere more relaxing and jazzy. A good coffee shop for enjoying drip coffee.
Like stepping back into the late 80s. Plus the coffee and pilaf are good, and it’s usually tourist-free.
Excellent service and I enjoyed the crepe cake. I went because I enjoyed their coffee at the convenience store, but it didn't have the same enjoyment.
Place is expensive for the food served and the service. There are much better places. The beef and cheese sandwich was well below expectation (see picture below). Cigarette smell is terrible. Disappointed customer.

カジュアルな感じの喫茶店です。中央に大テーブルがあり、それを囲むように椅子があるという珍しいレイアウト。二人がけのテーブル席もあります。ホットコーヒーも300円と良心的なお値段です。
三条商店街の中にある昔ながらの喫茶店です。特別オススメがあるわけではありませんが、落ち着いた雰囲気でのんびりコーヒーがいただけます。
なんか秘密基地みたい。店の作りがユニークで楽しい。アイスコーヒーも丁寧に目の前でドリップして提供される。おいしい！！いいとこ見っけ。

Really nice Cafe, even though usually pretty crowded and noisy. There is also a special room for smoking guests.

Great service with friendly staff. They also have an English menu as well so ordering was a breeze. Ordered the combo that includes a slice of layered crepe cake plus ice coffee. All for around 500-600 yen. We also added an ice cream cone since it was a warm day in Kyoto. Lovely place to relax and enjoy some resting time before going on the move again to explore the area.
Doutor is a chain in Japan, and it's pretty good. Unlike Tully's Coffee, they have more traditional pastries, coffee is of course delicious. Smoking section in the back. Good vibe. Nice place to hangout and chill!
