A cute little café with a sweet and nice owner. The Japanese Pancakes were great :) would always recommend again
Katsu sandwich is incredibly flavorful and tender. Coffee is great. The seats and table are very uncomfortable, but that's common for Kyoto.
I love the vibes of this shop. Decorated on the outside with greenery, the inside cozy and hip. As someone from Portland, Oregon, where coffee is huge, I can say this coffee is amazing!! They do their own roasting in the shop. The French toast was also flavorful and the staff was kind.

Nato nel 1946 e gestito da una nonnina carinissima, con gentilezza e disponibilità tipiche giapponesi, ambiente in stile occidentale anni 40 e cibo a scelta tra locale ed occidentale. Ho fatto colazione qui con mio figlio, lui la tipica colazione giapponese con curry profumatissimo, io non ero ancora pronta alla colazione così impegnativa e mi sono limitata a caffè e toast, tutto fantastico!

This is a great cafe in Kyoto. The red bean toast here was incredibly good.
Very good food for the price. The drinks are also acceptable. The real reason to come here is for the superior vibe and film history and posters.

Pure Japanese hospitality! A grandma running the shop, cooks the food to perfection, brews the coffee and tea fresh when you ordered. Great pancake, good waffle, egg sandwich home made. What else can you ask for a great breakfast to start your day in Nijo?
Amazingly designed cafe, with movie posters all around. Great atmosphere, and the owner is very attentive and helpful. Ordered a tuna melt, which came beautifully presented. Very reasonably priced, would recommend for everyone.

In a city that doesn’t open super early, this is a great place for a 7am coffee and a simple breakfast. This cafe has a cosy feel and the staff are very friendly. The service is fast and the food is simple, which I really like. There's old school filter coffee on offer, which gives the cafe an old school vibe; so you need to let go of any expresso dreams and go with the flow. The cafe overlooks a nice canal and is in an interesting part of the city. It's good for kids too, with a few different varieties of toast and juice on the menu. You can sit at the bar if you're travelling solo or grab a booth if you have a group.
Thanks Suzuya, we have good meal, affordable price and atmosphere is just right, Yiruma piano theme and vintage decor. I love this one and definitely come back in my next Japan Trip.

お店の場所は知らなくても、祇園で「サンのタマゴサンド」と言えば有名な定番デリバリー。午後１０時くらいにお店にいくと、これでもかというくらいにデリバリーの調理が見られます。私もお店で食べる前に何回もデリバリーで頂きました。皆さん仰ってる通り、タマゴサンド、絶品です。

Quirky neighbor cafe run by a delightful owner! Talking Heads playing in the background, excellent movie posters, memorabilia and tchotchkes galore, solid coffee game and “celebrity” toast dishes. Came with a free Mario & Luigi photo shoot 🤣 Most definitely set our moods straight for a day of exploring exquisite Kyoto.

Not a bad way to have some dessert after walking around Arashiyama. A bit on the pricier side for some of their options, but it's a very quiet and peaceful area to eat, away from the crowds.
An absolute hidden gem in Kyoto, if you’re in need of a day to recharge your batteries, to relax, or you love movies come here! The walls have numerous movie posters with sound tracks playing from famous movies in the background. The food is very comforting and prepared fresh, paired with the always smiling owner and you’ll definitely leave feeling warm and cozy. On top of all that the owner will hand you cards with Japanese phrases on them, so you can practice your Japanese a bit!

Delicious food in a quaint and charming restaurant. Omelette combo with iced coffee was excellent! Menu was in English and the very nice staff also spoke English very well! Absolutely clutch for breakfast when most places don’t open until noon, and all for 900¥!
Amazing small cafe, movie themed, I had nice late breakfast with black tea, I've heard that the owner bakes his own bread, and coffee supposed to be really good. If you like movies you need to drop by.
Run by a lovely, hospitable couple, it opens very early. Hence ideal if one is in Arashiyama and wants to have coffee/ breakfast. The cinnamon toast and coffee are simply delicious! Don't be surprised if you feel like repeating the order!

Smoking is allowed here, and we were ignored by the service staff when we tried to order. Coffee is also not good for 580 yen.

Cozy spot for an excellent coffee and light breakfast/snack. The menu is small, but thoughtfully-curated, and is written in both Japanese and English. The space is open and communal—you can grab a stool at one of the bar counters or sit around the large table. Note that this is a very compact space and is best for parties of 1 or 2. For the lactose-intolerant: they have soy milk!
Nice cafe with a few good tasting options for ice cream and mochi specifically. Atmosphere is good also, as it's tucked away from the major tourist streets of this area. The only negative surprise here was that this is cash only!! In a busy tourist area it was completely unexpected.
Excellent atmosphere! Such vintage style coffee shop is getting harder and harder to find. Very nice coffee and super delicious pancake. Must visit again whenever going to Kyoto!
Wonderful and unique spot for a hearty meal! The hotel owners took real good care of my sons and me. I felt secure having my teenager finish his meal while I ran errands. The blended coffee and cake is a wonderful deal. Thanks.

Owners are very sweet, coffee and food was good/cheap. They do allow smoking inside the cafe though, so best to be avoided if you're asthmatic.

Let me start off by saying this cafe is wonderful and holds a very special place in my heart. Second, I'd like to make a request for anyone who goes to the cafe after reading this. While I was at the cafe eating the absolutely delicious toast and breakfast set, I wrote down names of movies from a few of the posters up on the walls. I have since watched the movies that I wrote down, and all of them have been PHENOMENAL. Now I am deeply regretting not taking a picture of each of the walls of the cafe so I could look back over the other posters and slowly make my way through watching each of the movies featured in the owner's impeccable collection. If anyone visiting can reply to this post with their own pictures of the cafe walls that show the movie posters, I would so so appreciate it! Also, definitely go to this cafe if you have the chance and please enjoy the owner's fresh baked bread for me. I miss it already!
Great hidden coffee shop…feel like a local with special drinks and food. Ordered French Toast, Cold Drip, and Lemon self made soda….really enjoy the afternoon here. Thanks!
Clamp Coffee is a fun, hidden, cute location that is well decorated and unique. It hits the mark on a Japanese coffee shop as far as decor is concerned.
The food and coffee is simple but well done. There is a variety of drip coffee and the breakfast options are filling.
Would highly recommend this spot for a quiet book reading spot on a rainy day but be aware there are few seats and it definitely is a spot enjoyed by locals and the adventurous foreigner.

I liked this place. The egg sandwich was great. The coffee was really good too. Not too big. Only cash.
The man that runs this restaurant is very sweet and hospitable. Although he only speaks Japanese, he has no problem taking your order. The food was delicious, but the golden item on the menu is the coffee. The man is an absolute chemist! The coffee was delicious. He grinds the beans and then puts them through a drip process that makes the coffee taste so balanced and wonderful.
The only concern is that smoking is allowed inside the shop, but usually, people only take one puff off of their pipe and put it out, so the smoke goes away very quickly.
The eggs, buttery bread, potatoes, and salad were excellent!

Iced coffee was a bitter and hollow and the cafe smelled like cigarettes (There were ash trays in each table so if you're a smoker, you might appreciate this cafe more)
Coffee was alright. the lady (owner?) didn’t feel very welcoming. Was asked to switch seats and also had something about no photo policy.

Cute neighborhood cafe, great for breakfast as it opens at 7:00AM, which is rare for Kyoto. Several small tables and booths, as well as counter seating. Loved the combo meals (e.g. omelette sandwich with side of salad and hot drink of choice)

Love it here. I got my own quiet corner at the restaurant. The price kinder ex but u got to try to toast your own dango and dip it to the respective sauce.
We enjoyed the simple but tasty breakfast. Love the omelette, toast and bacon. Buttery aroma, well done.

Best breakfast!
What a hidden coffee gem in the neighborhood and steps away from Nijo Castle. The handmade drip coffee is super and really delicious, try the float coffee especially. The team is very friendly. Definitely recommend.
As a tourist this was quite in experience. Greeted by a adorable friendly uncle who has been there working for a long time (saw a picture of young him in the store) we ordered breakfast to fill our tummy. And it was delicious, there were locals there to early and there’s English menu! I’ll never forget the uncle, he’s super hospitable.
雰囲気も良く落ち着けるしとてもオシャレ♪声の大きさ元気の良さすごく良かったです！アイスがついてるスイーツセットを頼みましたがスプーンがついていなかった。もしかしたら珈琲にはスプーンはついていたのでそれで食べるってことだったのかな。珈琲混ぜてから食べるのも、うーん😔で先にアイスを食べてから珈琲混ぜましたが冷めてしまいうーん😔

This is a great little hidden coffee shop, nestled between some other cute boutiques.
The coffee, lattes, and breakfast toasts are all great. It’s also just a cool place to hang out and chill for a bit.
The staff spoke fluent English. When you are done with your coffee you can browse a great antique store and another shop with Japanese kitchenwares. A great way to spend a morning.

いつ訪れてもサービスがしっかりしていて、料理もコーヒーも美味しい。丁寧に作られているのが分かる。モーニングでもランチでもカフェタイムでも、いつでも満足できる。

入り口や店内は、昔ながらのコーヒーショップという感じでパッとしない印象もありますが、店内に入ってみると落ち着く雰囲気でゆったりできます。

Discovered this gem cafe purely by accident. A beautiful setting, tranquil and peaceful. The wall art is absolutely eye-catching. They offer various of Japanese sweets and desserts. We’ve ordered Swiss rolls and ice creams. The presentation was stunning like a piece of art work. A great place to spend a peaceful afternoon.

Great dip coffee, good to find an old school place to relax from all the walking. Keep in mind this is a true and real old school place. They have squatter toliets, small and lowered seats, and that fresh ciggratte smell. You must realize what you are getting into before going in. But the dip coffee is great, jazz is always playing in the background.
one of the best places to take coffe it's unique and comfortable, I really enjoy the peace around the place.

I was there on 16 May. When you stepped in, you will notice there are many tables side by side on the right side of the cafe. It can be quite noisy if you are seated there. Skip that!
If you prefer a quiet corner like me, request for a table on the left side of the cafe. I waited for about 15 mins. But I didn’t know the best has yet to come. I was given a private corner which is the first table on the left of the cafe. it is the best seat you can find in the whole cafe. Private and Secluded with drop glass window. All by yourself. That area can only seats 2 and your seats face out.
I enjoy the desserts there. The waitress who served me was so patient despite the crowd. She took time to explain and recommend the different types of dessert in the house. As it is Japanese dessert, everything seems to be of green tea. I love green tea so I think it was delicious and up to my standard. Beautiful plating too.
My experience was a good one because of the private corner and the good service. I can’t say the same if I am seated at that noisy corner with the tables side by side to each other.
The colorful painted wall at the entrance of this cafe just makes you so happy that you want to take endless photos.

They have 1 savory lunch/dinner item and we wanted to try it. Everything else is dessert. So we got it and it was sooooo good. Carbonara pasta with tender pieces of pork. Oh my gosh, yummy! This was about 1,080. Portion wasn't big at all so it filled you perfectly that you're not stuffed afterwards. Dessert looked amazing as well and I would want to try it next time.
