Our visit to Madrid Zoo and Aquarium was a mesmerizing journey through diverse habitats. Greeted by the vibrant flamingos, we were instantly captivated. The playful penguins and the serene pandas were highlights, offering a glimpse into the wonders of wildlife from different continents. Each exhibit, from the lively flamingo area to the tranquil panda sanctuary, showcased the care and dedication to animal conservation. A perfect blend of education and entertainment, this place is a must-visit for nature lovers and families alike. An unforgettable experience that brings you closer to the marvels of the animal kingdom.
For winter time there are limited options to dine.
I recommend train tour if you are with younger children.

It is always pleasant to walk around El Retiro Park. One could easily spend an entire day walking around and enjoying the beautiful nature. There are always people around walking or jogging. Everyone seems to have a great time. I definitely recommend that everyone visiting Madrid makes a stop here.

Amazing park to chill in the sun (or when it’s too warm, in the shadow). We were here in January and were able to catch some much needed sun. The lake in the middle is nice, you can rent a rowing boat, but the waiting time for a rowing boat can be up to 1.5/2 hours.

Hard to give this anything less than 5 stars.
Great for a jog or a run.

The lake, rose garden and glass house and the myriad statues scattered around the park are worth visiting.

Well connected by public transportation too and a walk away from other attractions

It is a huge park with many things to discover while strolling around. Very relaxing and serene place in the middle of a very busy and popular tourist city. A perfect escape through nature. A must visit while in Madrid.

Nice place to visit. In January there wasn't too many interesting things to do, but I bet once the spring comes, everything will be wonderful. The place is very well cared, it was very clean.. The glass houses are nice, but a too small.
Also, one downside is that the traffic from the near road makes a lot of noise, so it's not that relaxing in the garden

Nice place. I spent good and funny time. It’s included lots of animals divided according to the continental. The dolphins show was very interesting. Flamingos were amazing as well. There are lots of cafeterias and gift shops spread every were in the zoo. You can feed some animals as well.

This place is a dream!
It’s close to my house so I tend to come here more often than other parks and it’s an oasis of peace.
It’s very large so you can access it from different parts and walk in all directions. It’s extremely clean and well maintained, the trash cans are always empty and the lawns super lush!
It’s an open park, so I wouldn’t be surprised if people slept there at night, but there’s no sign of it.
Also, because of the open park factor I wouldn’t recommend walking there late at night (but I’m a woman so perhaps hyper aware of safety risks).
Dogs are running around everywhere but generally owners are respectful and clean up after them as well as call them back if they see someone uncomfortable.

Very nice and relaxing park. A few gorgeous monuments/statues/ponds stationed along the walk. Large area, wide roads. Wear comfortable shoes. This is a big park. Free entry. One of the best free things to do in Madrid. And the best things in life are always free. Enjoy!
We visit this zoo to see the Panda and the zoo has many wild animals like rabbits and bird which maybe they are not belong to this zoo but come to stay here volunteerily because they get free foods, the most cutest things is the wet land because many different animals sharing the same place and those animals are freedom to get in or get out but they choose to stay. As I understand the Panda has give birth 5 babies panda since they moved to Madrid Zoo,this Zoo has good atmosphere and nice environment, dolphin show is good but due to the day we visited is raining so maybe is better without rain.
Smaller exhibition but worth your time if you enjoy modern art. Not overly impressive though a few exhibits I found interesting. I took my time and ended up spending 2 hours there where the toy exhibit really caught my attention as a former engineer and the art piece made up of rifle stocks.

Before going I read all the reviews about the terrible monkey situation, and while at first I wasn’t convinced, after going there I hate to say I agree. The animals themselves are interesting, but the care and management for them leaves a lot to be desired. Honestly the management team should review their current policies and implement better methods when taking care of the animals. On a completely unrelated note, I saw a lot of peacocks, bunnies and birds roaming around freely and interacting with people.

Visited the zoo and aquarium on a warm sunny winter day. The price was good. Not overly crowded. Pleasantly surprised that many animal were out even in the cold. The zoo is lovely. Old school style. The aquarium is small but a nice addition. Took the train from city center and walked down hill to the zoo. There are two signs but no more once you cross the street from the metro. We didn't realize until we got down to the zoo that there is a bus you can take from the train stations. I would recommend if you have kids.

Beautiful urban oasis in Madrid to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city life of Madrid. Free entry with plenty of historical monuments and statues to view and a nice lake. Anytime is good to visit - I went at sunrise and it was very quiet, tranquil with plenty of good photo opportunities and very few visitors. The park should be on any person's must see list on a visit to Madrid.

Very beautiful. It's perfect for taking pictures. It was huge and it had many gates inside and outside. It's very close to Metro and bus station. The crystal palace is inside along with a museum if you want to visit them as well. Entrance is for free but I'm not sure about the museum or the Palace.
There are some cafes as well inside.
This area of Madrid is wonderful. You can have a amazing experience by walking on streets and having a fresh air, lots of sightseeing and different restaurants in every corner. The buildings style is very beautiful. Every building here has a long history

Repetiremos!
I was expecting a better experience to be honest. Some of the venues were closed, maybe because i visited end of November, and the Zoo is probably better in summer time. However, the highlight was the dolphin show. If you get a chance dont miss the dolphin show.

Siempre vuelvo.

We went on a Sunday so it was free. It's worth a visit as it's cheap and there are some beautiful pieces in the rooms. It wasn't overly crowded. Employee at the front desk was nice. Plan to spend an hour or more depending on how fast you go through each area and if you take any pictures. Our Airbnb wasn’t far so we just walked over here.
Overall 4.5. I wish they would let us take some pictures of some of the more extravagant looking rooms but I understand. Some of the other tourists make it look so painfully obvious they’re taking pictures, they should learn to turn off the sound. I would definitely recommend this place at least a one time thing. It’s cheap to get in. It’s worth seeing all of that embellished detail.
Interesting walk through to understand the different room functions and way of life in the palace. However I felt it lacked historical depth which I got more from the Prado museum. Lots of nice frescos and fancy rooms

Great park for a run! Absolutely beautiful area!
A little taste into Spanish history and all of the former Spanish territories conquered by the Spain. They have a luggage / baggage storage area if you are just arriving from the train station or airport bus and have yet to check into your hotel. You could spend a short time here but also a few hours if you're really thorough. There are decent bathrooms in the museum also, so if you want to avoid paying for a washroom at the train station you can pay for entry to the museum use the washroom and spend some time enjoying history. You could also arrive early before your train or bus and see the museum prior to your trip.
Lovely to see the history and how lavish the other half lives. Don't see the point in the no photo tile as long as flashes are turned off, hence marked down 2 stars for that. Book in advance to miss the queues and book your time.

The rooms were glorious to behold and the art on the ceilings amazing.

Lovely and peaceful garden to roam around if you have time, but if you're time limited, Retiro or the National Museum should be your priority. I especially loved the bonsai trees! Unfortunately it's quite close to the main road nearby.

The palace is stunning! I just don’t understand why it’s forbidden to take pictures in the most of it? Nevertheless, I followed the rules. Some people didn’t and it was such un unpleasant situation because guards take their job seriously. I heard ‘no photo’ being yelled at least 10 times, like please, just don’t do it. 🙄

I thought this garden was going to be small when I looked on Maps, but I was wrong, it's deceptively big and plenty to look at! Great glasshouses too, such a wide variety of plants to see even when flowering plants (like the rose gardens) are out of season. You could easily spend a few hours here exploring. Excellent value for €4.
Museo del romanticismo is a lovely little museum in Madrid. It brings you back to the time of the romance. It's not expensive at all, and it's definitely worth having a look around. We saw the museum in less than an hour. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The shop at the end also has nice things. Normally, there is a cafe by the garden but that was temporarily closed.

Great park for running, walking or just sitting for some time in nature. Not very crowded and extremely peaceful, with great views on Casa de Campo.
The national palace of Madrid is breathtaking. All the rooms are gorgeously decorated. The location is right in the centre of the city. I definitely recommend booking your tickets in advance if you don't want to wait for more than 1h. We saw everything in an hour. The shop by the exit had lots of nice things. If you visit Madrid, definitely come check the palace.
An excellent way to enjoy your afternoon! The relaxing atmosphere and the lush environment made it a little oasis. Take your time to enjoy every little corner because it is well worth it!

It is a very lovely park, it’s free and doesn’t cost anything, check the local times for when it opens and closes, it has a lovely little pond and a very nice statue in a water fountain, the garden is very well maintained and has lots of lovely flowers. Definitely worth checking out and taking a walk in the park. There are several other monuments close by worth checking out as well.
This was a very nice museum, filled with many beautiful paintings and antiques. They have many rooms that are fully decorated, although really not much on the topic of romanticism. I would still recommend checking it out if you’re in the area.

Park was nice. Wasn’t my favourite to see except for the rose garden.
The museum holds a wide range of interesting artifacts from around the world, mostly those places colonized by Spain.
Beautiful place to vist. Lots of beautiful flowers and different types of trees. If you three hours you could make the most out of it. On Tuesdays between 11am to 1pm the entrance is free. 🥰
Absolutely worth the visit! Beautiful both from outside and inside, good to have a logical order of visit and you don't need a tour guide because you're guided by the path anyway and a lot of information on the signs inside. Also the groups spend only 1h inside, if you want to spend more time go alone. Wonderful place, wonderful rooms, don't miss the armoury part too it's so peaceful there and yet spectacular. Total recommendation, was worth standing on 34° for half an hour outside, but those ones with pre-booked tickets stood even longer, yes, it's true.
A Small Museum about the life style of the Spanish royalty în the XVIi century. Full apartaments, paintings of royalty, scenes of battle and militar displays.

Absolutely worth the 4 euro. This garden is quite big and has versatile plants that are local to Madrid and other parts of Spain. The garden was really, really beautiful and was planned out so you can weave through the whole thing, and get a little lost in the greenery. I recommend going just a few hrs before sunset so you get shade and also get to see the light peaking through the greenery.

It’s really beautiful, I highly recommend this very eco-friendly activity for everyone!
We arrived after 14:00 and were able to enter for free. My daughter, who is in high school, enjoyed the content and the layout of the exhibition. The staff were friendly and helpful.
The statue of the bear from the tree is a sculpture that represents the coat of arms of Madrid and is located in the historic center of the capital. Definitely an interesting statue. I conclude that the bear likes sweets and that there are berries on the tree.
My visit to the Royal Palace of Madrid was an unforgettable experience. Depending on the time of entry, there may be a queue, but it was truly worth the wait. I was enchanted by the grandeur and magnificence of the palace.

The historical details and artistic intricacies were extraordinary. In every room, the craftsmanship of the artisans of that era was on full display. As I wandered through the palace, I felt like I was breathing in the rich history of Spain.

The throne room, in particular, captivated me. Here, I could feel the traces of historic events. The elegance of the furniture and the attention to detail further emphasized the significance of the palace.

The view from the garden was also worth seeing. Looking out over the rooftops of Madrid from the palace's garden was breathtaking. The time I spent here created a calming and inspiring atmosphere.

If you have a passion for history and art, the Royal Palace should definitely be on your list. It's hard to put into words the awe and inspiration I felt during my visit. If you find yourself in Madrid, you absolutely must see this gem.
Stunning, absolutely beautiful, and totally worth it! Even if you just see the outside of the castle, it's still beautiful. But there's so so so much more inside and I highly recommend buying the tickets to go inside. There's a ton of rooms you can walk through, and they are so elaborate and elegant, and it's like nothing I've ever seen before. Magnificent castle.

Note - there are a lot of rooms that you aren't allowed to take pictures in, so my pictures only show the good rooms. You can't take pictures of the "amazing" rooms!!

This impressive monument is on Retiro Park. There are several sculptures surrounding an equestrian statue of the king, Alfonso XII. More than twenty sculptors worked on the project. Currently, there are some reforms going on.

The Statue of the Bear and the Strawberry Tree, located in Madrid, is an iconic sculpture representing a bear standing on its hind legs, reaching up to a strawberry tree to grab its fruit. It is the symbol of the city and is situated in Puerta del Sol, one of Madrid's most famous squares. This statue is a popular meeting point and an iconic landmark of the Spanish capital.
A lush oasis of paths in the heart of Madrid. Green trees with wizened branches and ancient trunks. Leafy shade to escape the hot summer sun. Pleasant refreshments available at the cafe, including Fanta, cool white wine, and salty table nuts. Tall stone statues towering above, watching the tourists and the city kin pass and stroll below.

Pros
- beautiful park
- you should visit the garden of roses (it's free)
- the sunsets are amazing
- a really nice experience in Madrid

Cons
- a lot of dogs
- temple of debod is not free
- it can get crowded at sunset hours

Conclusion
Go in advance before the sunset to visit the roses garden and then enjoy the sunset.
Happened to pass by this museum the other day and got to enter for free. Though it was around 30 minutes before closing, I got to have a quick tour of the entire top floor but it's a shame I didn't get to see the patio. Lovely hidden gem.
Nice monument in front of a pond with little boats you can paddle around in. When we went, there was construction going on by the monument, but it was still a nice visit. There are no tickets or admissions fees to enter; it's all part of the public park. However, there isn't a lot of shade in this part of the park, so prepare to be in the blazing sun. If you have a few hours to spend in the park, I'd recommend going.

I wish the city council would polish the statue and try and show the bronze colour, it would have been perfect photo to take. It's now too much black and not an attractive colour. Or paint it bronze colour if it's too much to polish 👍
Oh, seeing The Bear and the Strawberry Tree was an absolute revelation! The sheer brilliance and profound symbolism of this masterpiece had me in complete awe. Standing there, gazing at the magnificent statue of a bear, it was as if I had unlocked the secrets of the universe. The bear's powerful presence exuded a profound energy that stirred my very soul. And oh, the strawberry tree, with its subtle representation of nature's bountiful wonders, added a touch of poetic elegance to the composition. This artistic marvel transcended all expectations, captivating my imagination and leaving me pondering the deeper meaning behind this profound encounter with a mere statue. It was a transformative experience that opened my eyes to the boundless beauty and magic that art can evoke. The Bear and the Strawberry Tree will forever hold a special place in my heart as a symbol of artistic brilliance and the limitless power of human imagination.
5/5 - would stare at this bear again.

Cannot visit Madrid without a picture of and with the iconic Oso y el Madrono monument. You can't miss it, it greets you as you enter Puerta del Sol. Still trying to figure what a madroso is, as it translates to strawberry tree.
Free!
Very helpful staff and a few good exhibits in a modernized space. Great shops across the street as well.
Free entry, lots of amazing pieces to get lost in. A place to visit if you like modern art!
Good alternative if you have plenty of time on Madrid.
This was my first time visiting the Romanticism museum and it certainly won't be my last!
Having paid the incredibly low price of 3€ for entry, free for users of the Tarjeta Joven and unemployment, I thoroughly enjoyed my time walking around this boutique museum.
From the paintings to the artwork both on the walls and ceilings, intriguing collection of knickknacks and a beautiful atmosphere, I'd strongly recommend giving this museum a try.
And don't forget to check out their ridiculously cute and lovely patio garden out in the back!
Exposition was pretty small but nicely composed. I spend there around one hour.

If you want free entry, ask in tourist point when to visit museum for free, they will tell you everything.
Don't expect a grand institution here or a huge collection but what's here is both exciting, beautiful and diverse. Absolutely worth the metro ride and 5 min walk. Free entry too. Turn left after you enter through security and walk to the far side of the courty to find the galleries which are on the top two levels.
A beautiful monument and the location is simply the beating heart of Retiro park being beside a lake with boat rides.
Free art exhibit in a former military base. Unfortunately nothing is translated to English, but still highly recommended
An amazing work of art. It's amazing that it's even free to visit. You can also sit and chill calmly after viewing the work. Nobody is bothering you. Sometimes there is a lot of activity because people want to take pictures all the time, but other than that, it's a pretty quiet place. It is very possible to see people reading books. I think plastic canoes floating in the river affect the aesthetics very badly. Still a must go place.
A good museum with some pretty pieces. The paintings are beautiful, some of the toys/games are impressive, and it's always interesting to see rooms set up as they might have been for the people who originally lived there. If you are not too far away, this is definitely a good place to spend half an hour looking at the collection. I got there early and was the only one walking around; it's a little unnerving to have the security people follow you but I get it.
Very nice monument you should visit in El Retiro Park! Beautiful in every detail, the sculptures are amazing! A treasure for this park!
📍 Monument to Alfonso XII, El Retiro Park, Madrid, Spain
A huge monument that you cannot miss. You can walk right up to it and around the whole thing. It is probably best viewed from a rowing boat, however be warned that the queue was taking a very long time if you did want to go in one.
Amazing monument area next to the pond in Retiro Park! The monument itself is very grand and is massive in scale. The view with it next to the pond is amazing. Good place for some cool selfies and family shots. Definitely worth the visit!

Fantastic monument. Enjoyed a ride through the park in nice carriage through the park with a great Columbian tour guide that I met at entrance and who took photos for me. I recommend your guide like this if you had only one hour like me. This is the main attraction in the park. I also liked feeding the peacocks nearby with bread and peanuts.
