We went here in search of some tasty tapas and jazz in the speakeasy. Unfortunately, there was no live music on the night we went, but we still enjoyed many delicious tapas and drinks. The interior is cute and cozy. Our waiter was very patient and had lots of helpful recommendations. We enjoyed the fried green tomatoes, chicken dumplings, scallops, and croquettes as well as a variety of cocktails.
This restaurant doesn’t look much from the outside (especially at the moment with road works) but do not be fooled. It’s absolutely beautiful on the inside. The service was excellent, the waiters spoke many languages and were fluent in English explaining the olive oil to us and the menu. We were there for my birthday, my husband had emailed before, they made sure we had the best table and they did me a birthday surprise. Honestly one of the best restaurants in Madrid. Thank you so much for making my birthday a memorable one. We fully recommend this restaurant and the prices are very good too.

Abit small and busy but we LOVE the food. Super big portion size for tapas and all were good/amazing. Glad that we found a good traditional place worthy of review. Recommended!

Had a lovely brunch tasting menu this afternoon. Ordered the tasting menu, which turned out to be quite a bit of food that was absolutely delicious. We also ordered the guacamole. as delicious as the guacamole was it turned out to be too much food!! Definitely go hungry and enjoy the tasting menu either inside or outside. We ate on the inside which is a beautifully decorated place in a very nice part of town.

Service is terrible. They forgot our drinks. We got the tasting menu, and they also forgot the last two dishes. The food itself was not great.

Beautifully crafted tapas dishes, efficient service, one of the nicer restaurants ive eaten at in Madrid. The Meatballs are a must!
I thoroughly recommend a visit to el Tormo in Madrid. You will not get any other service like this. The host Clara made us feel so welcome and at ease. The tasting menu includes a number of dishes brought out to the table and the origin and ingredients explained. The home made chorizo and the smoked sardine dish were delicious but the highlight was the olives. I have never tasted better olives in my life and I have eaten a lot of olives!!! Such a wonderful celebration of traditional food and coming together sharing a meal with my family is life. Small capacity so you get very personal service. You will be full of love and food at the end. Thank you Clara.

We had lunch outside. The atmosphere was mostly pleasant but there is some local construction with some heavy equipment that passed by. This is not normal but was a bit unpleasant. The wait staff was great and their English is passable. The food was all delicious but the price point is too high. Yes, I know things are more expensive but this is a tourist area gouge. Other than the price and a bit of noise it was very nice.

Ask for Fernando the minute you get to the restaurant!! He pretty much made our whole experience unforgettable with his impeccable service, amazing recommendations and jovial demeanor. Loved the goat cheese croquettes, Iberian ham, tomato salad. We regret not getting the asparagus. Love the meat platter and the paella. Add this place to your list and it won't disappoint! PS loved the sangria as well!!

I was walking around in Madrid with my colleagues, when we encountered this romantic looking restaurant in a low crowded street.

We are immediately hooked by the dishes we see on other tables. They look GREAT, and the smell coming from them becomes the reason we decide to stop.

We ordered a mixed starter, as well as some tasty paella, and a surprisingly tasty meat dish. Everything was delicious, and on top of that, we were served one of the best oil in the world, which turned every bite into a flavour explosion.

As if it wasn't enough, the waiters were incredibly professional and they actually knew what their food was all about.

Definitely suggest having a dinner here: great atmosphere, amazing dishes, and balanced prices.

Amazing food, amazing server (Angie), amazing atmosphere! Worth my 15 minutes walk to here before they close! Authentic Spanish food. Best ham I’ve tried. Super tender pork, and one pleasant surprise to see grilled peppers coming with it! The price is so good too!

We'd heard the rave reviews about this restaurant and we wasn't disappointed. We didn't have a reservation but Ramon was confident he could get us a table. After a short wait he got us one, downstairs in the pleasant ambience of the cellar. The food was delicious and our waiter Leonardo could not do enough for us. This place is a hidden gem, the staff take a lot of pride in what they do and I would 100% recommend!

Our service was excellent. Angie did a fantastic job of helping us with the menu, recommending a great wine and taking care of us overall. We had a tapas plate with several choices (the chorizo was amazing) and each had a fish dish. I believe they are well known for their grilled meats, but after a heavy day of tasting all Madrid has to offer we needed a lighter choice. The grilled squid was very well prepared with excellent flavor and texture. The Sea Bass and Hake were also very flavorful. Thanks so much for a great experience in a unique setting!

Let me start with a disclaimer - at such busy places you do expect service to be slower but holy ***.

Imagine this - you order something and then your server disappears somewhere downstairs also where the toilets are. Then you wonder ... 🤔 Did they fall in to the toilet ? Did they slip on the way up and broke their ankle? Well sadly our server never returned ☠️

The food was very good (the bombas were outstanding, the Carpaccio was amazing, croquetas were nice but the green tomato thing was not for us) and the atmosphere very nice but the service ... well it was as slow as the changes your politicians promise during the campaign and they never keep.

We were fed up and even cancelled out last order for 2 cortados for which nobody actually wanted to fulfill.

Is this a place to go and eat ? Yes if you love to spend your time alone but if you want to actually enjoy your time male sure to order everything on one go at the first interaction.

We love this place! The environment is very pleasant, and we liked the service very much. As for the food, the steak melts in your mouth, the paella is also quite tasty (note that the portion is quite large). They have a large selection of wines. Highly recommended, don't forget to make a reservation in prior. 50-60 euro per person.
Great place, great service, great food!!!
My recent lunch experience at this establishment was nothing short of disappointing. The highlight of the meal turned out to be the snacks provided upon ordering drinks, setting a low bar for the rest of the dining experience.

While initially pleasant, our waiter's demeanor shifted once it became apparent that he was more interested in upselling dishes rather than ensuring our satisfaction.

The calamari, touted as a house specialty, arrived undercooked and unpleasantly gooey, so much so that even a child refused to eat it. Despite requesting a recook, the same unappetizing consistency remained unchanged.

The oxtail, another menu item we ordered, was disappointingly dry and devoid of flavor. To add insult to injury, the waiter mistakenly brought three plates to our table instead of the one we had ordered, displaying a lack of attention to detail.

The octopus dish failed to impress, tasting as if it had been hastily defrosted and microwaved. Even the croquettes lacked flavor, leaving much to be desired in terms of culinary execution.

While the restaurant attempted to rectify the situation by offering a complimentary aperitif, we declined, skeptical of whether it was a standard practice or merely an attempt to salvage the meal after the fact.

Overall, this dining experience fell far short of expectations, with subpar food quality and lackluster service leaving a sour taste in our mouths.
Today I was walking around Madrid Río and my friend brought me to a typical Spanish bar in the area. The waitress Vanesa was so lovely and the service was excellent. If you happen to be in the area, I highly recommend this terrace.

Small colourful restaurant that’s usually pretty busy. Service was friendly and food comes out fast. The stewed beef was perfectly cooked, pickled code was tasty, gazpacho was a bit on the watery side and not as good as other places. Some of the dishes are quite simple and nothing to write home about. There is wifi, if needed. Cava was good! Wasn’t terrible, wasn’t great but not sure I have the need to return.

Food was fine - but nothing amazing.

Gildas were loaded with bread and chips, generous serving but unnecessary. Toast with sobrasada and manchego was too oily and soggy.

Our Madrid collos stew was missing morcilla. When we advised the waiter, we were told it would be a minute to get it fixed. The table next to us had the same issue, but they didn’t notice. 10 minutes later, a tiny piece of microwaved morcilla came out, by this time the collos was cold and too thick/gelatinous. There’s better food on the street, such a Lamiak.

Service was unfriendly. Disappointing visit.

I loved the first visit. Fernando is super kind and very friendly. All the other staff are great. During my second visit, grilled octopus wasn't the best one I had expected although I enjoyed it. I've had better ones for the same price. Thus, I would give 4 out of 5
Need to book in advance ! Good atmosphere and very local ! Worth trying all dishes - there’s a speakeasy hidden downstairs (didn’t go we focused on food)
best tortilla I have EVER ate! tapas with shrimp salad and oxtail quesadilla was also delicious.

Excellent, what a fantastic find. Located down a quiet street off the beaten track. We had a very warm welcome by the owner and waiter. This is a family run restaurant which has been open 155 years and plenty of memorabilia on the walls. Let’s hope it stays open for another 155. It was very relaxed atmosphere, the food was superb, fried anchovies tasty and delicious. The steak cooked to perfection as was my sea bass. We finished the meal with beautiful homemade truffles. I would highly recommend finding this delightful old restaurant.

A traditional old Madrid restaurant that makes classic dishes. The food is rich and hearty, with lots of slow cooked soups and stews. The Castilian soup is particularly delicious. The staff are extremely helpful with guiding your order, but upselling or pushing any dishes, but advising restraint! It's a friendly place to have a great meal.

The best Spanish restaurant that we have visited during our stay in Spain. Friendly chef and great food. We love every dish in this restaurant. Pork belly is the must have item! You wouldn't want to miss it. Looking forward to coming again when we're visiting Madrid in our future.

Simply awesome food and service. Do go early as it fills up very fast. I went there 1245 (Thursday) and there was a small crowd waiting for it to open at 1300. Service was prompt and friendly (thank you to the young server who help translate English to Spanish). I had the teriyaki eel with Foie gras, it was an amazing match and pure unami (20 euro but worth every single cent). I also had the Olivier salad crayfish tail sandwich, simply sublime (much cheaper but so satisfying). Lastly, I also had the lava cake with coconut ice cream. A very insta moment when you break the lava, but frankly too sweet for me. Overall, a spectacular gastronomy experience. Must try.
A hidden gem! We loved the food and services, we went back twice for lunch and dinner.

This is the best meal I have had in Madrid! Super friendly staff. I can feel that they are proud of their restaurant and serve in the most genuine way. The potato tortilla is incredible. I can’t believe how delicious it is! We also tried soft shell crab, foie gras, sea bass ceviche, they are all excellent! I’m going back to try other dishes they offer!

Imagine the regular Spanish Tapas bar reimagined and elevated. You can still see the tradition but in a format that is more interesting and "chic" than the other bars you will find. You can tell the local people love it because of the line that forms even before opening.

The place is small, crowded, and loud, so be prepared to wait if you don't have a reservation. You can always opt to sit at the bar. Despite all that the food is heavenly good.

The staff is attentive and will try their best to communicate in English if you need to.

To start don't miss the Dulce the Leche Volcano desert and order it first thing WHEN you arrive so they can save you one! It will disappear fast and there's only a limited number.

The food is varied and mostly small plates. The dishes are thoughtfully crafted, everything has very pronounced flavors, and is aggressively seasoned (in a very good way), so not the place if you have the tastebuds of a toddler. The highlight is the Oxtail with potatoes, it's to die for! Also don't forget to try their version of the Spanish tortilla.

This is probably one of the few places where you can get the "tapas" experience, not requiring a sit-down arrangement, and still enjoy a fun bar that put as much effort on the food side of the equation.

The beef meatballs and chorizo in white wine sauce were tasty and the restaurant was vibrant, although a little noisy but the atmosphere was good. (Feels like Christmas) We were also served with free cheese, biscuits, bread and olives. The old uncle gave us a few pieces of chorizo to try too as we weren’t sure what was that. The other service staffs were friendly too. Overall I would recommend to visit this restaurant for traditional local food and experience.

A lovely small restaurant that caters to both locals and tourists. I was staying in the La Latina neighborhood and found this place for my first lunch while visiting Madrid. It was a great initial food experience in Madrid, the food was nice, and I thought it had a great atmosphere. They’ve got a nice vermouth on tap and the music they play includes a lot of crazy old cover tunes in Spanish. It’s also a nice spot to come back to at the end of the evening for some snacks and a vermouth nightcap. Cheers!

Phenomenal spot in a fantastic neighbourhood. I’d read it was good but my expectations were massively exceeded.

Stylish, Spanish decor with a colourful, creative twist and busy walls filled with stuff to look at as you sip your opening vermouth. It was packed full with a mixed crowd, all clearly enjoying themselves.

Food was outstanding: 1. Delicious, finely sliced cured beef (can’t remember name but see attached photo), 2. Pulpo a la Gallega was as tender as it gets with fab mashed potato - a nice twist on the classic boiled. 3. Chorizo al vino was stunningly good and just the right amount of paprika, 4. Mejillones - beautifully presented, huge and juicy, with an amazing tomato and pepper broth to dunk your bread in (it’s Spain. Bread is life). Great house vermouth and jolly good Verdejo + Ribera. We didn’t stop commenting how delicious everything was.

The service was wonderful, too. Wry approachable staff, mega-friendly, and despite the bar being packed, helped us move to another larger table, took our order in about 3 minutes, and turned up querying about refills whenever we were one sip away from an empty glass. Legends!!!

One word in summary: GO.
This place is a gem! Such flavorful homemade food. It was a very enjoyable and fun experience getting to try dishes from the castilla la mancha region of spain, that I had never been exposed to before, living in Madrid. We especially enjoyed the morteruelo, pisto and migas del pastor. The price is fair for the amount of food you get to try. You’ll walk out stuffed.
We came in for dinner and had their house specialty setas con almejas for starters. For our main dish we had the lenguado and chuletillas de cordero lechal. For dessert we had the leche frita and trufa.
Sehr zu empfehlen
Tolles spanisches Restaurant.
Service impeccable. Pure expérience de la gastronomie castillane

Waited months to get a reservation and it was well worth it! The tortilla is a particular highlight, I recommend waiting in the line outside to sit at the bar for a tortilla and a drink. If you do sit down, the oxtail and truffle raviolis are delicious. The service is quite slow but the food makes up for it.

Absolutely delicious tapas and great service! The tortilla is one of the best in Madrid and we loved the boletus ravioli and artichokes. The wine recommendations were great too.
El Tormo in Madrid is a true gem that transports you to the roots of Spanish cuisine. Clara, the owner and host, beautifully narrates the history behind each recipe, adding an enchanting touch to the dining experience. The cozy and authentic ambiance immerses you in the restaurant's rich heritage.

Chef David's culinary skills are truly awe-inspiring. Every dish at El Tormo tasted divine, showcasing his expertise and passion for traditional cooking. The flavors were exceptional, leaving me in culinary bliss.

With Clara and David as the dynamic duo behind El Tormo, this restaurant preserves the traditions of Spanish cuisine with finesse. It's an absolute must-visit for anyone seeking an authentic and memorable dining experience in Madrid

This restaurant is one of the best. Our waiter was incredibly helpful and friendly (and spoke beautiful English!), and the food was out of this world. I love this place. Feels traditional, great bravas sauce, nice cheeses, kind employees, and fantastic outdoor seating arrangement for a restaurant situated within the neighborhood.
I ate here on my first day to Madrid, after a long flight, many hours from my last meal and I’m telling you… my stomach was bursting but my soul kept telling me to eat!
We came as a group of 6, not reading anything about this place in advance just that it had good reviews and man what a surprise we had when we heard it had a preset menu. Every dish was a culinary surprise for us, one tastier than the other! The hostess was kind to explain what each dish was. This is where we learned that we actually knew nothing about how a chorizo actually was supposed to taste like, it was just divine!
This is the perfect place to start your culinary adventure in Madrid, with a surprise feast that will be both fun and challenging (because you won’t be able to stop yourself from eating more!)

Hands down the best restaurant I visited during my time in Madrid. The customer service from alll the staff was superb. It’s a popular place, and although we didn’t have a reservation, the staff were accommodating. The tasting menu includes a variety of foods, all very creative, unique dishes ! Dessert was stunning and we couldn’t believe all four courses were that delicious.

The restaurant was clean, as were the bathrooms. I especially loved the interior throughout. Highly recommend visiting this amazing restaurant when in Madrid!
We didn't have time to get a lot but what we got was outstanding! The Spanish tortilla (omelette) was phenomenal! We definitely want to come back and enjoy some of their other items. The service was very friendly and helpful. Loved this place!!
You'd think Ponzano is so crowded and touristy, there wouldn't be good places around, but this is another gem in the street! Wine is poured royally, meat is just amazing. I have no words for it. The Carpaccio is just beef, salt and oil but the taste is amazing! No frills, just great food. A must-try in Madrid

Looking for a real Spanish local restaurant? I.e. no menus in English, staff hardly speaking any English? Go to this small place. We enjoyed the gambas al agillo, good glass of Ribera and a nice desert (manchego with fruit). Nice staff. Quick service.
I want to recommend this restaurant (Casa Jacinto) so much.

We came here on recommendation from a Madrid local friend of ours who suggested it as it was quite close to where we were staying in a nearby hotel.

My wife and I ate dinner here one evening very late as we were exhausted after some big work days. The two waiters are some of the most welcoming people in Madrid and not only that, they are of exceptional professionalism and service.

The first night I ate scallops cooked on the shell as a starter and had the house specialty clams with wild mushrooms, my wife had a perfectly cooked sole.

All of these dishes were fantastic and I’d be happy to have any of them again.

Given we had such a nice time, we came back for Sunday lunch where my wife had the iberico jamon, croquettes and salad caprese. I myself had the cocido madrilènes. These meals once again were beautiful. I’d strongly recommend that if you have the cocido madrileno that you don’t need to eat anything else for a few hours afterwards as it is most filling.

All in all we’d come back to Casa Jacinto in a heartbeat, not just for the food but the great service and the wonderful ambiance of this little restaurant in the back streets of central Madrid.

We plan to return later this week! About the experience: We dined at this quaint local restaurant with classic Spanish decor rich in Spanish traditions. The staff were two lovely men with exquisite class who greeted to Americans with open arms. While I am of Spanish heritage and speak Spanish my wife speaks English. Yet the staff made us feel at home. Next to food, the dining experience makes an already delightful meal even that much more an unforgettable experience.

About the food: the offerings are varied, plentiful but not overwhelming. You can have starters, appetizers then move on to more heavy plate and finally your main dish, although you do not have to eat from every option. We shared the stuffed pimientos. These are not you normal stuff peppers. They are small variety pepper and I suspect they peel the skin because the peppers melted like butter in my mouth. They were stuffed with salmon. The flavor came from a pure vegetable puree that was infused with cognac and other spices. I almost didn’t share with my wife but she had a knife in hand. My wife ordered the sea bass which is half fish on its back (literal translation). Fish was tender and flavorful. I ordered the lamb chops which were seasoned and grilled perfectly to maintain moisture and tenderness and were accompanied with French fries. Dessert was the flan that was smooth as silk. Finished with a grappa variation aperitif (Baileys) and of course white and red wine. We ate like Royal family for such a value price. We love it and will be back this week and later this month.

Great service, and a lot of history. I highly recommend!

It’s the first time since I have been living here for almost 20 years and I thought I fell in a tourist trap restaurant.

The old waiter was friendly. That’s why I put 2 stars.

But the food didn’t deserve any stars. Sorry for that. The quantity and the quality didn’t match the price at all, too pricey.

Tomato salad maybe it’s the worst I have ever eaten. We left it after trying 2-3 pieces and we complained about the price. Never thought I’d come back here again.

Very authentic and tasty experience. Small family restaurant. We had artichoces with Iberian ham, broad beans with Iberian ham, leaks in vinegret and a salad and after some desserts. Everything was very tasty and the service was kind and helpful.

Great spot. Very friendly staff and comfortable environment. Would definitely recommend.
A lovely Manchego restaurant that serves delicious meals, some even dates back to Cervantes’ time.

They offer a seven-course meal (hold off the bread if you’re to take this road), an arrangement of complete gastronomical pleasure.

The couple who runs this place are also very lovely and the señora explains each dish wonderfully one feels like traveling to Castilla La Mancha tambien.

Taste food and excellent treatment
Your typical tavern madrileña. Outdoor seating and good service. They serve you a rice tapas for free to begin with. We ordered the fried calamari which was soft inside and crunchy on the outside, made to perfection. Also had the pork with honey soy sauce... loved the combination!

Fantastic place to have a few cañas and awesome food.
Très bon restaurant traditionnel. Les plats sont copieux et bien préparés. Cuisine classique espagnole. Cadre agréable avec un bar sympa et très animé. Service très attentionné.

Mariano looks quite authentic and local both from inside and outside. Overall decoration, walls, napkins and other utensils are quite old fashioned. I ordered fried calamari and lamb chops. Calamari was a little bit tough, chewy and rubbery. Almost tasteless and full of frying oil. Lamb chops were quite tiny and had thin ribs meaning sourced from a young lamb. Fats are rendered well but maybe overcooked a little. In terms of taste they are also very limited. In addition very low value for money. Not a satisfactory experience.

This is a lovely place. I used to have my breakfast and dinner here almost everyday when I wasn't site-seeing... The hosts are sweet people. I loved the tortilla here with coffee. They served some amazing dinner as well... Love this place... It will be a special one for me since it's related to my first Europe trip...

Wonderful food, attention and atmosphere. Truly authentic - we were the only non locals in all night - David, son of Mariano made us feel like the only folks in there - and we were very happy about that!

It is a expensive place where you will get good food. For €50 you eat like a king, starter, main course, dessert and drink. The spanish chef knows what he is doing. The food is not fatty at all, including the callos a la madrileña. The amount of food you get in the daily prearranged meal is very generous. The waiters are very helpful and attentive, in less than 30 seconds you will have whatever you have asked for. I got good food recommendations from them. I normally ask for the most popular/ordered items. Desserts are house made, arroz con leche is amazing. As long as you don't have bread with the food, you will reach the finish line. The prearranged daily meals are not very popular and a la carta is the way forward. The restaurant is located in town centre. It is not easy to get there by car, just use public transport, the best in the world here in Madrid. Not many car park spaces nearby. They serve spanish beer in the bar. Loads of tapas here, it is a very traditional spanish restaurant. Small plates can be ordered. It is a medium size place, forty five people can be eating at the same time. Toilets are in a very good condition, recently refurbished. No outdoor seating for smokers. The lunch shift starts at 13.30, normal Spanish standards, and finishes at 4pm. The kitchen closes at 3.30pm. €3 in the bar for one caña of spanish beer. No breakfasts served here.

Traditional restaurant in Chamberí. You can order typical Spanish food with a good quality and well cooked. The fried hake and calamari mix is one of the best you can get in town. The beef T-Bone is really good too. Sometimes a bit expensive depends what you order.

The staff was very friendly and fun, but I was surprised about how pricey it is, given that the food is fairly basic.
