Ho Kau Hainam Kopitiam is a traditional hainanese coffee shop in Kuala Lumpur. The decor is modernise old school which give a good Instagram picture fir patrons. The coffee and food are very traditional with the bread with kaya (pandan jam) and butter the original taste. Noodles is good too. Service staff are attentive and the seat reservation and ushering system is well organised.
Overall a pleasant experience.
The place tend to be crowded so so go there early at 7+ on a weekend inorder to secure a seat early.

I recently dined at VCR Bangsar, a franchise of Calle VCR, with high expectations due to its reputation. We spent around RM80, and while the prices leaned towards the expensive side, the food quality didn't quite match up. The seating arrangement was a disappointment as we were placed near the restroom, which was far from pleasant.
This place has a good reputation, but I hope they put in more effort to maintain their standards because word of mouth can change quickly. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate the food 5/10, the interior design 5/10, the location 8/10, the service 6/10, and the overall value for money 5.5/10.

Good food at reasonable prices. Parking may be challenging right in front of the restaurant, but there are other options nearby.
Nice little cafe. don't expect much. but think of it your neighbour hood little cafe. early morning is nice sitting outside and not too hot. they have fans to keep you cool. food is nice. I prefer the sausage croissant and chicken chop.
Dirty matcha is good with a nice balance between the espresso and matcha and milk. It’s served chilled without ice.
Mocha sando cake - they said it’s the best seller but I personally didn’t quite enjoy it. Nothing to shout about. Only good that it’s not overly sweet.
Specialty drink named “William” is just okay, it has some artificial tastes that we didn’t like it.

Nice place to get work done - strong Wi-Fi, good coffee, food and cafe is really spacious. Our fav dish: crispy chicken with sourdough. French toast is really good too but should order last as dessert as there’s ice cream topping.
Authentic local kopithiam foods. Take the queuing number from machine, they will call for your number for the table. We were visited with 8 persons and waited for 60min (1 hour) just for the table even thought I was there around 7.45am for take numbering que for the table dine in on Saturday.

The place looks nice and clean. The only set back is looking for a car park around the area. I came at lunch time and they are busy. The service for the coffee is abit slow.

Came here as we saw that the reviews for this cafe was excellent. There is a rather big VCR sign outside the cafe so you won't really miss it as you turn into the road. We came here on a Saturday morning, but there were still ample seats on the 2nd floor (there are 2 floors). The cafe features the standard kind you would expect at any other hipster cafes. We ordered the soft shell crab burger, truffle scramble gravlax, avocado toast, english muffin and a cup of long black. They also offer free water. The service was rather slow because I think they are quite understaffed which they apologised for (totally not an issue). The food was honestly average, and the portion wasn't that big. For the price we were paying, it was just OK - nothing fantastic. We would not recommend you to deliberately travel here just for this cafe, but if you are in the area then it's fine.
Average coffee shop. Ample amount of food. I only tried the Hakka mee so far. RM9 with soup, not a bad deal, adding to the fact that this is the first I’ve seen that has pork balls. Taste was just okay. Tasted a lot better ones.
Colleague ordered wantan mee. They ran out of char Siew but still charged the full price. Just bear in mind.

The staff in this place are great! Every one of them had given us a big smile when we entered with a warm "Welcome!"
The food was fantastic, with flavours that are better than you'd initially think when you first see the food.
The ambience of the place is super vibey too, and the lighting makes for great pictures, if you can find a good seat that's not under a spot light.
Thank you VCR staff for the hospitality on a tiring day.

The drinks were good (anyone with a sweet tooth will love more). Everything else is just bad. The half boiled eggs that I had were so cold that I thought it came out from a refrigerator. The nasi lemak is not horrible but is way below average. Not even a mediocre standard. There was a 45mins wait on weekdays lunch. I wouldn't recommend anyone to come here unless you want to join the queue for a below average Malaysian food.

Nice place to do work and study. The food is normal and the cake is abit too sweet (i think is called naked king, a banana caramel flavoured cake) for my personal preference. However, the coffee is good, definitely recommended.
Must visit. Lovely reliable food harbour whenever you sail by or visit the area more regularly. Our favourite place in Bangsar for noodles.
I was truly impressed with this cafe. The entire setup evokes an authentic sense of nostalgia. Although the food was only average, the service was exceptionally friendly. However, waiting for an hour on a weekday was a bit too long. Personally, I visited the cafe to relish the ambiance, and I absolutely loved it. I highly recommend giving it a try if you haven't been there, but do be prepared for a wait.
By far the best coffee and breakfast we’ve had in KL! W been here multiple times and the few times we tried somewhere different we were disappoint and ended up back here for a better coffee anyway! The lattes are nice big sizes, the granola is so fresh and tasty (we bought a pack to take away) the croissants are beautiful and flaky made in layers as opposed to doughy (how croissants should be IMO), the three cheese toasty is also a big hit.
The atmosphere is trendy and inviting and the staff are so friendly and helpful. Would 100% recommend if you are coming to KL, seriously going to miss the coffee when we head back to Australia.

Was entice by the "drip coffee", and the ice drip is not bad, very authentic.
Walking around and i chance upon the plating, not easy to notice as it is on the 2nd floor.
Didn't try the food, and the aircon is not cold enough.

Hands down to the best pan mee I’ve ever tasted after trying so many other pan mee. It’s my childhood pan mee I’ve eaten for 30 years and it’s still taste sooo good! Their soup and chilly is the best. I also love the mixed pork porridge which is so smooth.
Came here on a PH for brunch, however we got disappointed as quite a number of their breakfast options were not available and it was only 10am! Apparently they ran out of sausages, mushroom etc on a PH by 10 in the morning (?).
The sourdough toast is good as usual. But personally felt like their quality / consistency of food quality has definitely deteriorated quite a lot compared to before, it used to be my favorite place to do brunches.
No queue when we got there at 10 but there’s a 15+ min wait by the time we left at around 1130.

Avocado gone bad. Change it after feedback but still same. Gotta know from the staff they heat up the avocado toast in the oven 😑 not wonder it turn bad.
Big breakfast is also another let down. If u can see from the picture.

Decided to check out the cafe scene in KL. Found this cafe on Google Maps while searching for a cafe for lunch. It is not too far from Bukit Bintang where my hotel is located. Located in a shop house. There are also other cafes in that area.
Ordered the smoke duck carbonara. It was really tasty. Creamy but yet not overly intense. The sauce itself isn't very salty. The smoke duck itself provided the saltiness to the dish. You don't feel like you want to stop eating after a few bites. I have eaten some carbonara where the taste of the sauce is too overwhelming, as I really not a milk person. But this dish is quite well balanced, taste wise.
I was greedy after the pasta and decided to order the chocolate tart. Again a good dessert. Not overly sweet and it was a good way to end the meal.

My first VCR experience and it was average. The food was average as the big breakfast which was 40 bucks or less(?) was a little underwhelming..
However though, the girl at the counter who ordered food was sooooooo friendly, kudos to her for such a hospitality! She was very patient with me and was happy to show me pictures of the food as the menu has only words with no pictures to illustrate which is fine. But she was so patient to show me one by one and recommended me some of their best sellers while describing the taste. She also had a really big smile on her face, and I call that the 5 star smile 😃

Very good quality Western style brunch. The coffee was excellent too. It is located inside a colonial era double storey link house, so the interior itself is unique and atmospheric.
Simple local breakfast you can find here…roti khawin with half boiled egg…I still prefer last time roti texture
Nice buzzy little cafe. A good selection of coffee however the pastry was a huge disappointment as it was stale and the lemon curd cake was not at all fresh. Informed the waitstaff and surprisingly there was no feedback from them even after we told two of the staff. The three cheese toast was really good. Perhaps they will do more to look at their service procedures.
Been here many times. Always goes for the pork ball noodles. One of the best. There are other stalls too...seems good. Will try in next visit

I came here to get a quick coffee fix, so order some latte and cake. Overall was an alright experiences, but definitely could be better. Cake is pricey, rm15 for half a size of a normal cake. It did taste decent but it didn't make me feel that it was a worthwhile visit. There were a promo if you buy two cake, you get a black coffee free... But I wanted a latte and they weren't able to accommodate a latte in the promo.
I am not sure why the rating was high for this cafe, maybe the food was better. I did see some other guest photo and the food did look good... But the cafe experience was just okay. The tea was good, latte tasted good - but no latte art.

Had high hopes for this place but it was a little short of our expectations. While there are attempts to spruce up the place, the ambience could be better with better air conditioning. Nevertheless the servers were helpful and the food and coffee while not excellent, were good enough for a snack.
Has quite a number of Hakka dishes despite not being owned by Hakkas 😁 the spinach noodles are well known here and unique. A must for ginger chicken lovers. My kids and myself preferred the Hakka noodles as the taste is gentler and the warm Hakka fried pork (marinated with fermented bean paste?). The fried rice was very good with it's wok heh. A definite must come back place which I will also bring my mom
I must say that I was sceptical about western breakfast at first because what is so nice about 2 piece of bread with some eggs, mushrooms and baked beans that you can make at home. Why come to a fancy cafe for it? Later when I tuck into my meal, my jaw just dropped literally. It’s the best baked beans I ever had… the mushrooms were fantastic. I can tell it’s not your usual run of the mile cafe. It’s serious business and afterwards I sat upright and savour each and every bite of my breakfast with the most fervent admiration of how this cafe redefines my vision of western breakfast!
Coffee is good, toast and soft boil eggs are typical. Avoid venturing during peak hours, tourist spot. Parking can be challenging.
Coffee is excellent thou pricey. I’m a heavy coffee drinker btw. Food is good but small serving. Udon was good. They removed Udon soup so only Mentaki Udon if you want clear soup who Chih is pricier at RM$26. Small place and filled up during lunch.
My favourite kopitiam for a simple breakfast in Penang - soft boiled eggs, roti kahwin, and kopi o. Highly recommended.

A very old school type of coffeeshop. According to the auntie they have moved here from another location for 6mths already.
Ordered the toast with Butter and Kaya and toast with butter and half boil eggs on top. The toast are very well done, very crispy as though it's deep fried snack but it's not.
Hainan coffee is a must to order, very fragrant.
Service is 10/10, the auntie speaks very good english and their menu comes in english as well.

Night food: there is bak kut Teh, rojak and Thai cooked food. The review is for Thai food. It is very well done. Whether it is the salad or the fried rice, the krapow moo or the pad Thai. We will come back to try the other dishes. Really happy there is this offering in the neighbourhood.

Being a Sarawakian, noodles for me in the morning is a must. I found this place had great reviews and went to check it out. I was not disappointed as the food and drinks were amazing. Parking wise I'd say in between hard and easy to find. Easy when your early in the morning but during peak hours is not.
Lei cha is so good!! But the yam abacus seed is a bit disappointed. Overall experience not bad. Friendly owner, will give it a try again when passing by.
Small hidden cafe covered plants. It is faced parking place and many cars across around but very quiet and comfortable space for relaxing. RM25 for Big breakfast including coffee/tea is very cheap. The food is like homemade style and not so special but worth for the price definitely. Staff are friendly and attentive, good service.

The vibes of the place is really nice, small cozy cafe with lots of wooden furniture and old cameras;- very reminiscent of some cafes in Japan. You have to walk up a narrow flight of stairs to get to the cafe on the 2nd floor which makes it feel special and mysterious.
The menu is quite limited with drip coffee and some juices/sodas, as well as a few warm meals. Would have been nice to have some matcha options. The iced coffee was good though and presented well.

5 stars for ambience however the food that we ordered taste mid for the price that we've paid. I had their Nasi Kerabu with sotong goreng. Presentation is on point but taste wise, let's say I had tasted better ones that is half their price. The Unagi bowl taste great but the portion feels like we've ordered from the kids section of the menu.
This kopitiam is on the recommended lists of several foodie socmed platforms. Hor ka sai was thick 👍🏻. However, the soft boiled eggs turned out to be hard boiled egg yolks. Kaya butter toast was ok, you can opt for steamed bread version also. Crew recommended char koay teow which was average, a little lacking on wok hei, though they scored brownie points for bigger than average prawns. Was told that the CKT here does not have chinese sausage.

Came to this cafe to develop film as it was v cheap! (~$6 sgd) Added some of the images that were developed so u can see the quality. Wanted to buy film too but it was out of stock when I came. They do have a few film cameras in the store too, but the selection is pretty small. Had the curry rice and it was v yummy. The coffee was more average for me but drip coffee is not my personal preference so maybe that’s why!
Went on a weekday, so it was not too crowded. Food was good. Price was reasonable. On weekends and public holiday, the wait time was ridiculous. They use a numbering system for the queue. It is not a big shop so they do not have a lot of tables which made the wait time long. Just be prepared to wait up to 2 hours during peak times. Would recommend the curry egg toast. Curry was so good!

Had a very last minute plan and aware kitchen closes at 8, contacted them and asked if I'll still be allowed to dine in for a meal, and they helped me send my order to the kitchen before it's closed so I can still have my meal!!! Listen!!! Without even asking me to pay first?!?! 🥹 Anyway, very interested in their coffee menu. 10/10 would revisit!!

During my recent trip to George Town, I had breakfast at Kong Thai Lai Coffee Shop. While the food and coffee were decent, I wouldn't say they were exceptional.
The breakfast was budget-friendly, which was a plus. However, the taste of the food was just average. It was satisfying enough to fill me up, but I didn't find myself craving more.
Despite the average quality of the food and coffee, I did appreciate the quaint atmosphere of the coffee shop. It had an old-world charm that added to the overall experience.

Honestly I’m quite disappointed in the cafe. I’ll break down what’s good and the room for improvement. The coffee is not bad, the service of the staff is quite good too, that’s a plus point, curry is not bad but a little salty. The room for improvement are the dishes, I ordered the bento & sando, the miso soup for the bento taste like soya sauce with water and a little miso, I’m not sure what they are going for but it definitely taste weird, the scramble eggs are overcook as well. As for the sando, they did a great American sandwich but that is no sando, it’s a slim toast with cheese and ham, as a sandwich, it’s good but if you’re craving for a Japanese sando, you’re in a wrong place. And, the stairs is way too steep, not only is it hard to get up, it’s dangerous to come down too.
Very nice breakfast. The big breakfast portion is big. The grilled tomatoes taste different, there is a layer of ‘crunchy syrup’ on top. Scrambled egg is creamy. Homemade sausage is nice. Overall great experience. Good spot for breakfast.

Decent food, but great coffee. Out of all the coffee shops in the area I like their coffee the most. Seats can be limited during lunch hour but they have an upstairs seating now. Never sat upstairs before so can't comment much.
This place is kinda obscured with just a small door indicating it's on 1st floor. We had the gyugyu which is like beef slices on rice. Pretty average not bad and the price is reasonable. Also tried their dirty espresso with milk, tastes nice but really small drink. Parking here is horrendous and the area is kinda weird featuring fruit stalls and kopitiam mainly. The cafe seems out of place to be fair.
Environment is cozy, chair is not the most comfortable one. 😅 food is really average, nothing special, so is the coffee. We didn’t taste the dessert so no comment on that. We tried the curry rice n bento set. Taste wise can be much better, though plating is aesthetic. Rice, meat and eggs tend to be very dry. Have to say that the eggs r sweet, but meat is way too salty. The miso soup can be improved. Location is near city square. Have the potential to be better if food n drinks can be be nicer
Always come here for a few items which is their pork ball noodles, curry laksa, prawn noodles and wantan noodles. Tried one of their latest stall selling hakka noodles. Noodles were done just right with a bit of bouncy bite to it.
Quite complete variety in the Kopitiam. Pork ball noodle is recommended. Pan Mee soup is good too with springy noodles.
Hidden small Japanese coffee shop located on the second floor. Tried their cold drip black coffee and mentaiko udon. Coffee was very aromatic and I heard from the staff they hand roast their own beans.
Definitely try out their udon as well, very creamy and the udon noodle was springy as well.
Staff was very friendly and explained to me about the different coffees they have.
Will definitely come back next time to try out their pudding!

Pretty hectic place, tables and places all too close together. Coffee was cheaper but not as good as the other ones on that row. Chicken rice and kaya toast was meh
Had a very lovely breakfast in this cafe last week. The cafe is small, nice and cozy. The staff is friendly as well. I cannot say much about the food because it was really gooooodddd! No cap. The plating is nice, so does the food! Definitely gonna repeat again soon! 🥰🥰🥰
Good place to get hakchee loumee 虾籽捞麵 for dinner ans supper, so nice, its wanton is full with generous fresh ingredients and with big shrimp in it, so worth it.
Choose the Wan Tan Mee wisely, the one without signs is a total ripoff. Rm15 for one small bowl of wan Tan and 2 dumplings.
The kulou yuk is nice, still crunchy when served. Big let down is the yam abacus seeds (算盘子), almost tasteless. And they don't even provide tissue paper, shocking for such restaurant.

If you are looking for the best Panmee, this is it. You can find the best here. The noodle is very nice, solid shape and the soup is rich. Must try!

They don't have a lot of savoury food but despite this, i continously visit because each of their items taste heavenly and i dont mind repeating them (yes, it's that good). Especially the salmon don with dashi.
The desserts were also amazing. They have a mixture of their own desserts as well as the ones from niko neko. I've tried most and i like all of them.
For drinks, i usually go for coffee but during one of my visits we opted for something more adventurous and was pleasantly surprised by their signature drinks. Reallly really good and recommended.
Service have also been tip top since my first visit. Servers are attentive and polite.
Overall, highly recommended.

The wantan mee is worth trying
came around 6:30 which is dinner time but just waited for a while before we got my seat. only few tables available as the place is not so big. quite a lot of varieties of food in the menu starts from single dish to family dishes.
tried the spinach mee. it was so good. the chicken was a bit small but it has strong aroma of the oil and the ginger.
the leicha was nice as well. the smell and taste were not so strong. just nice for my liking. the portion was quite big too

Also known as Ah Tan Kitchen. Popular place for dinner. The fried pork is flavourful and not too greasy. The abacus seeds were like dry pan mee. Not good. Butter chicken is delicious. Will try their leicha next time. White coffee is premix, and not 'Kaw' enough. Air-conditioned.
An under rated restaurant in the vicinity of Taman Connaught. The food and drinks here are quite delicious and nice. The shop is clean and decorated with Chinese calligraphy drawing. It's a gem to be discovered in the area by the food lover.
Nice 面粉粿. Seeling fast. If want to try, must go earlier.
Favorite Wanton Mee in JB. The noodles are cooked perfectly every single visit. The boss really know his noodles
