Nice old pub, staff are easy going to talk to i sat down scanned the code of my table and ordered and paid for food and drinks without needing to go to the bar. loads of places and areas to sit. I suffer from bad anxiety and sometimes I look anxious and odd but the staff there didn't look at me strange and treated me nice even though I probably had a face like a slapped arse as they say, but that's just my anxiety. So yes the table service is nice and I like the lighting to nice cosy and some dim areas to relax. Thanks

Visited here with friends, not been here for awhile but pleasantly surprised. Staff very friendly, food was good as well as the drinks. They are offering at the moment 2 courses for £15-79 which was excellent value for money, I had gammon steak with chips and peas 2 eggs and grilled tomato, all cooked to perfection. Desert was the cheesecake, it was vegan but you would not know it, very tasty.
Good selection of beers and wines, the London Pride was well kept and was a nice change from the usual beers you find.
There is free car parking, but you do have to register you registration number on a tablet at the bar, not a big deal it took seconds.
Also be aware that you have to order food and drinks at the bar, they do not come round for your order, also not an issue for us but some might find it is unusual.
Will return and well worth a visit.

We went mid week for a wake. The food in the buffet was absolutely amazing with a nice mix!!!

The staff were friendly, and everything went smoothly, we arrived, and all had a cup of tee/coffee just as we were finishing the buffet started to come out.

We popped in for a quick drink after visiting a local nursery. Its a place i've not been to in 30 years, boxing day beers with my brother's family.
It has changed internally for sure and the beer garden looks more enticing.
There was a crowd of people in both dining halls and a mixture of folks in the bar.
My wife liked its old age charm, tick in the box for me!

Popped in for a bottle of Newcastle Brown, not the cheapest at £4.20, which is what’s kept me away for a while, otherwise the people in there are warm and welcoming, the price is down to the brewery unfortunately.

An excellent Sunday roast at good price. Everything was nicely cooked, with fresh veg, a choice of sauces, and cauliflower cheese available as an extra side. A good range of veggie options. Good range of drinks. Everyone enjoyed their food. Friendly service and relaxed atmosphere with well spaced tables, and a lovely warm fire. We booked for 8 people a couple of days in advance. We recommend and would eat here again when in the area.

On a big rugby match day, avoid this place like the plague. They up the prices by about 40% for a simple pint, and the beer is poorly maintained. When I raised an eyebrow at paying £17 for two pints of guinness the barman smugly remarked “yes, we charge more on rugby days”. There are plenty of great spots in twickenham on a match day - the fox on church street is much better and they have a little bit more respect for their customers.

Just a classic pub with bought in food. 'Ultimate bought in burger' beef, buttermilk chicken, and beef brisket bbq. 13 quid, it filled a hole. You wouldn't take your family here for meal. Pint and food. Atmosphere was like the jockey 🏇.

Eating out these days is expensive and often disappointing, in my experience, so we came in with low expectations. However, we had a wonderful meal for two. Compliments to the chef, it felt like the food had been freshly made to a good standard, which is hard to come by these days. Good attention had been paid to flavours, rather than just dowsing everything with salt. We had a starter and a main and were stuffed. The portion sizes were generous, food served lovely & hot, there was a good amount of veg with the dish (which is another thing pubs and restaurants seem to overlook). There was a good amount of extra gravy in the gravy boat for the pie.
Atmosphere was great, service was great. Everywhere felt clean. All things that are important to a nice meal out.
Will recommend and hope to return.

My first visit here since the new management took over. It’s a decent pub and has quite a few different beers on offer and a couple of ales. They also show all of the sport.

The main issue was the service. It was pretty quiet and myself and another customer waited ages to be served whilst two staff members were chatting away at the end of the bar. Worse still after they served the first person they tried to serve someone else who had just got to the bar ahead of me! Not having a handle on who is next at a quiet bar is unforgivable. Added to that it took an hour for glasses to be cleared from our table from the previous customers. The staff were not doing much at all and were being generally inactive.

Plenty of potential here but the staff need better training and a kick up the backside.

A bit "off the beaten track" , but busy and buzzing atmosphere. The food Is FANTASTIC 😋 😋 😋
Highly recommended ❤️
Visited this Sunday for lunch. Always been nice in the past was years ago.
Microwaved food, placed order and at table within 3 minutes for a Sunday lunch. Paid extra fiver for both meats which were pork and turkey, oh you got sprouts. But they chewy and frozen not even fresh. Meat so over microwaved unable to chew, a plate full of peas, tea spoon of cabbge, tea spoon of stuffing, microwaved cheap Yorkshire. Ok was a tenner for two courses and £15 for two meats but the produce with being frozen veg was over microwaved.
Dessert was supposed to be lemon sponge and custard. A dry piece of cheap cake and instant custard made with hot water.
They don't do coffee so no doubt no tea either.
Atmosphere quiet, boring and only us and another couple in thete which says quite alot. We did expect much better from previous reviews.
It was a disappointing experience and very disappointing food.
A waste of £30.00.

Lovely food on the 2 courses for £18.95 menu -masses of meat in the chicken and ham pie and very tasty! Half price fizz on a Friday is a great deal! It was quite empty for a Friday lunchtime but it was a very cold day. Nice that we were sitting next to a radiator!

We haven't been in here on a Sunday since before lockdown. So we just popped in for a Sunday dinner this afternoon and wasn't expecting what we got.
Fantastic big thick slices of tender roasted beef, plenty of veg, lovely roasted potatoes, a giant Yorkshire pudding and plenty of delicious gravy.
Highly recommend. A big Thank you to all the staff.😋😋😋😋

We LOVE this pub! It is consistently good, really good. The food is excellent, their Sunday roasts are the best around. Such good value for money too. The staff always make you feel welcome and nothing is too much trouble. Whether you pop in for a drink or eat a meal it never disappoints! It's our go to pub.

The food was unfortunately not very good, even sticking with "safe" options like a burger it came out dry and lacking condiments. Extras were provided when asked but there wasn't much that could be done to save the dish.

The staff were very helpful and friendly though and I'm sure it would be a perfectly pleasant place to have a drink but I wouldn't recommend eating here.

My son and I booked dinner today, the pub looks lovely, new owners have done a great job. The food was delicious, highly recommend the Burger. Thank you to the chef for accommodating my son re chicken nuggets. Staff were very friendly and attentive.
Sadly it was very cold in this pub, we waited a long time for food to come out, then most of it was cold. We didn't bother to complain as we were happy to leave. The young waitress who served our food was very pleasant. There was 7 of us.

We have eaten here many a times and absolutely loved it, however today I wasn't feeling too well so thought we would get a take away roast dinner delivered, definitely won't get a delivery again very small indeed one box only had just 1 roast potato in whilst the rest just had 2 and tasted like they were not home cooked. For us this is a great restaurant to eat in but not for a delivery

Ordered a ribeye steak 😋. Its was properly cook but rested on top of chips leaving them with no crunch and soggy. Peppercorn sauce was very cold and powdery and could definitely be improved on. Sat outside as there was no space inside. They have outdoor heating but only half was working so was quite cold 🥶 so ate as quick as I could as it was becoming cold very quickly.

Gorgeous food. We had 2 courses each and all were really nice. Waitress service from the table let it down, waited ages to order more drinks and ended up going to the bar for our bill in the end. The drinks were nice, lovely cocktails, good pint. Christmas decorations made it feel very festive. Would go again.

It's a mixed bag. The terrace is pretty cold and I'd recommend a large coal or wood burner. I had the Sunday lunch beef topside, £18 which I don't begrudge, but for that, it needs to be perfect. The roast: Beef had been left under the hots lamps, either a lazy waiter or they are pre-plating it and letting it sit, no longer pink, either way the chefs fault. The fruit and veg is great. Great gravy. Roasted potatoes are passable. Waiter was inattentive and the menus needed a good wipe. The manager was milling about in a pink tracksuit, which gave the impression, I'd walked into a rave on a council estate. It's a pity, it could be an award winning pub, but it is sloppy on the details.

We went for a family meal here & pre ordered our food. The place is warm with a nice friendly atmosphere & tastefully decorated.
We were given a nice friendly welcome & our drinks order was taken immediately. Within the 1st 10mins the food was being brought out, no waiting around. The food was nice & hot, well presented & excellent quality. Throughout our meal the staff remained friendly & efficient.
We would deffinately recommend eating here, we couldn't have picked anywhere better. We'll deffinately be returning whenever we're in the area.

Staff were friendly and polite, no problems whatsoever allowed me to sample a beer before buying.
Because we were both there at 5pm my partner wanted the early afternoon menu and I wanted the late evening menu
It was sorted to our satisfaction
The pie special was very tasty, light pastry with a smoky after taste. Several good beers on but was driving so only had a small sample. Friendly and efficient service. Advised to book a table in the evening.
Very sad witnessing the demise of a once much-loved local pub. Lacking atmosphere.

Chanced my luck and rocked up on a Sunday without a booking and was lucky to be slipped in for a Sunday dinner for two. We had roast beef and pork and a chicken roast. Food was stunning plenty of meat cooked to perfection and a large wide range of veg left just enough room to squeeze a dessert in . Stunning pub decorated stylish and very polite and helpful staff . We visit scarborough once a year for a couple of nights and will definitely be back and may look into booking a room here next time . Not stayed here before but the rooms look grand . I would recommend booking as we was lucky as they had a cancellation we did notice just after 5 o'clock it seemed less busy so if you have not booked you probably have more of a chance of getting a table at that time. Overhaul a lovely experience and great food definitely will return. Cheers

I've had many happy visits to this pub over many years and have been happy to pay city centre prices for their beer, because of the selection offered. Service has only ever been adequate and after tonight's visit i must finally comment that the food is always (historically) an overpriced
disappointment (apart from the Sunday roast which is an overpriced pleasure) and I won't be fooled again, 🎸🎶 ☹️. 3 stars because of my fondness for the place despite my constant disappointment.

On paper the Sussex Arms should have it all. There’s a fantastic array of real ale and an interesting selection of cask too. There’s so much potential, but it didn’t quite live up to expectations.

The garden was disappointing with kids running riot and parents not really having any control of their children. For such a big garden it was entirely a kid’s playground in that there were no spots to relax. The garden being big is just some green carpet stuff and quite a lazy effort for a space that could be quite nice.

A pint of Budvar was £6.10 which was a lot more than when I last visited last year. The glass was pretty filthy too, but I only noticed once I’d drink a decent amount of my pint. By that token one pint was enough. The indoor experience was better on a previous visit and it’s cost in the winter, so there is hope.

They just need to try harder here and go for the quick wins. A nice garden and clean glasses when you’re charging a pretty penny isn’t too much to ask. There’s better pubs in the area. I’ll give them another chance in the winter, but not in a hurry to return.

It's such a shame that this pub in a prime location has never been able to become popular with locals. Apart from the weekends when there were live bands and rugby days, this pub lacks atmosphere and warmth. We went there at 8.30pm for a quick drink. It was virtually empty for a Thursday. The wine I had was off probably because the bottle had been for a while.

Where do i start - love this pub , love their Garden apart from finding glass all over the floor which I wasn’t pleased with - the pub has changed so much through out the years and constantly have new owners. Previous owners were great and hard working and would always deliver best.
We have not long been , lets say two weeks ago and we’re told that it has been tken on by new owners lets hope the owners are understanding and have high standards in about how important safety is as in there should have not been any sight of small glass scattered around absolutely everywhere!! and that my children could have been hurt by it. It has a children playground for a reason and it should maintain the healthy and safety procedures for all children and famililes.
Please take note that this is a family pub and hope it does expect everyone’s expectations.

Love the pub and will always support- as long as not only my children’s safety is met but others - i want to be able to sit down and enjoy
My
Quality
Family time without worrying about my children not being safe.

Rely nice country pub/restaurant.
Service was good, attentive without being over the top.

Food was good.
Had three course between us.
Halloumi fries with chilli jam was delicious to start.
Went for roast beef dinners as main. Pretty good overall with plenty of flavours. Served nice and hot with tasty vegetables. Yorkshire puddings were nice but seemed like they weren't hand made.
Cheesecake desert was good. Coconut ice-cream was delicious but the biscuit base was very thin and soggy. Personal preference is a thicker crunchier biscuit.

Wine choice was very good.

Very reasonably priced!

Will definitely return.

Had the best roast dinner here on Sunday! The pork belly was delicious, with plenty of vegetables, gravy and a big Yorkshire pudding. Will definitely be back and a fab atmosphere to boot
We have stopped here on many occasions and have never been disappointed with the rooms although pricey compared to other similar.
The food is higher priced than a lot of good pubs but was worthy in the past.
Sadly the food has gone down hill since our last visit hence only 3 stars. First time we have left feeling disappointed evenore so as we took other people with us on our recommendation.
The décor is very pleasing just the prices and quality of food and drinks let it down for us.

A Fantastic Experience at the Talbot Inn!

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I recently had the pleasure of dining at the Talbot Inn, and it was an absolutely fantastic experience from start to finish! The exceptional customer service provided by the staff at this pub truly made our visit memorable.

First and foremost, the food at the Talbot Inn is good. We were delighted to indulge in some delicious traditional pub food that exceeded our expectations. Every dish we ordered was cooked to perfection and bursting with flavor. Moreover, what impressed us the most was the incredible efficiency in which our food arrived at our table. Despite having a group of 15 people, our meals were served promptly and piping hot!

The variety of drinks available at the Talbot Inn was also commendable. They offer a wide selection of beverages, catering to different tastes and preferences. Whether you're in the mood for a refreshing a pint of ale, or a non-alcoholic option, you'll find something to satisfy your cravings.

The seating options at the pub are plentiful, both indoors and outdoors. The vast indoor seating area provided a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for enjoying a meal with family and friends. Additionally, the outdoor seating area was a great option, particularly during pleasant weather. We loved the option drinks in the open air.

The Talbot Inn boasts a wonderful family-friendly ambiance. We felt safe and comfortable throughout our visit, which was particularly important given the size of our group. The staff was accommodating and friendly, ensuring that everyone had an enjoyable experience.

One aspect worth mentioning is the large free car park available for guests. It's convenient to have a spacious parking area, and the simple process of entering the vehicle registration at the bar made it hassle-free for patrons.

Overall, our time at the Talbot Inn was nothing short of fantastic. The combination of great food, excellent service, diverse drink options, ample seating, and a welcoming atmosphere made it a truly memorable experience. I highly recommend visiting the Talbot Inn for a delightful dining experience, whether you're looking for a cozy night out or a gathering with a larger group. You won't be disappointed!

Lastly a massive thank you for being so acomindating for all the willen hospice midnight moo marshal's you looked after us from start to finish
Been here twice now. First time was really nice. We played pool outside with the kids and had cocktails and cider. The staff were really friendly and it was a nice afternoon out. Second time we went for food but the atmosphere was totally different. Not family friendly really. Lots of drunk men and colourful language so not appropriate for kids. I was hoping early afternoon was going to be ok. I'd suggest it's more of a sports bar type set up.

Nice country pub, good beer(Lees), cheep food, but unfriendly, unhelpful staff.
The vegan pie here was incredible! Really impressed with the vegan pie and soup of the day (potato and leek)!

Only downside was that we were hoping to be seated in the actual pub but I think dining takes place in a restaurant extension.

Would easily recommend 😊

Nice local Pub with nice atmosphere and friendly enough service. Great Pies with a quite large selection of beer and wine. I would recommend visiting if you are in the area. There is indoor as well as outdoor seating.

Booked table on line for match day, outstanding selection of Ales, Beers and Cider both on tap, cask, and cans/bottles.
Food was a touch expensive but good quality, nice atmosphere and highly recommended.

Previously the Birches Head Hotel. Gem of a pub in Stoke on Trent. Newly refurbished. Friendly staff and atmosphere. Decent prices. Deserves to be a success. Well worth a visit.

Very nice pub.
Plenty of comfortable seating with a mix of benches, sofas, and comfortable armchairs (the one by the open fire is my favourite) with a well stocked bar with efficient and helpful staff, and also it's not overly loud.
Pool table in the back, clean toilet, and smart phone quiz on Wednesday evenings. I will definitely go again and would recommend a visit.

Location is just on the edge of Twickenham town centre. Good pub ambience. There’s a nice all weather garden terrace which is great. Nice food menu with well thought-out selection of tantalising contemporary dishes and a wide array of ales and beers. I had the wild boar sausage served with creamy mash, green beans and lovely onion gravy. My lunch companion had the pan fried seabass served with green beans, lovely spring onions mashed potatoes. This was topped with white wine creamy sauce that had brown shrimps and chives. I must say the food was generally above average quality. The restaurant team and the waiting staff were extremely polite, eager to help and very cheerful.
Nice pub with a chilled atmos on a Sunday and music playing at the right volume level (loud enough to hear but without being an intrusion on conversation). If you're feeling hungry, you can have a three meat roast for just over £15. Portions were good. Beef a little chewy. Cauliflower cheese could have done with being less al dente and finished off in the oven to brown it. You can eat a medium-rare and thick burger here and but the hand-cut chips didn't seem to be hand-cut...? Personal preference is skin on tbh. Service was pleasant and the Cornish Orchards cider hit the spot.

After a recommendation to eat here we finally found the time and made a reservation. As it’s a very popular pub / restaurant you must book if you want to eat and drink at peak times.

We found the food to be delightful and especially liked the little plates section which was great for kids or adults who simply didn’t want a big meal.

The drinks selection was also great with a lovely selection of ales.

Overall a lovely experience and meal and am very happy ti recommend.

Stopped in for a quick nibble and the hair of a dog after a heavy session last night, needless to say, I'm absolutely hanging out of my backside. Anyway, back to The Red Lion...

It's a lovely, big, family pub with an outdoor garden and play area for kids. I had two cold pints and a chicken, bacon and brie ciabatta. Very tasty and came with chips 😁

The staff is very friendly, next I come I'll bring the family 👍👍👍
A warm corner pub with nice tap. Makes a slamming gin and tonic. Satisfying bags of crisps (chips). Does food too. Indoor and outdoor seating, with a playground out back for kids and families (!). TVs carry a good match. Americans remember you don’t need to tip.

The Sussex Arms is a pub near the Twickenham Green. It is well known for it's large and pleasant back garden. It has a large selection of beers, ciders and wines. It has a good kitchen and an extensive menu. Sunday roasts are especially well done. We returned this Sunday to enjoy the leg of lamb with fresh vegetables, topped off with custard covered apple pie. It was great.
Dropped in for a few drinks last night. Staff were great and the drinks were very good value. Nearly half the price of somewhere like Wimbledon. The pub itself is okay. Perhaps a little stark inside, hence the four stars.

More cask ale than you could ever need, all kept in good condition. Selection of Big Smoke Brewery beers alongside guests from far and wide. Heritage interior, garden to front and rear. Full food menu available - the Sunday roasts looked huge, and were hugely popular!
Pub has changed hands since my original review and things have changed a great deal. Not for the better either. Atmosphere has got rougher, it is less family orientated and they do not do food anymore. Used to love this pub but now I don't really want to go in anymore. Shame for me, but they do seem to be doing a good trade so obviously works for other people.

The food was great quality, the portion sizes were very generous and the staff were lovely. I highly recommend The Birches Head. The Lamb and mint pie was lovely.
