We had a last minute birthday booking in a Sunday for 12 and the staff was so lovely and helpful with us all. They had no problem in storing our cake or giving us cutlery and plates when it was time to slice it. They even put candles on and sang happy birthday for our birthday boy. Very lovely. Food is nice on a Sunday. It isn’t the cheapest out there and I don’t think the quality of the food meets the price you pay, but it’s quite full filling if you get the meat option. As a Vegetarian, I struggled with their vegetarian option in the roast menu as there’s only one option and it’s not varied enough. No vegan option for roast either unfortunately. Luckily, when I asked to make some amendments to the vegetarian option the chef and the staff were very available, I really appreciated that. The place looks lovely and has a really nice atmosphere.

Free extra potatoes, gravy and Yorkshire puddings. Easy 5 star review.

Can usually get a table too unlike a number of other Sunday lunch options in Bristol
Really nice pub with a great view. It's very popular and the staff are very pleasant and welcoming. The roast however wasn't the best, it wasn't terrible. However the pork belly with crackling hardly had any crackling and wasn't well presented at all. The roast potatoes were bland and tasteless. Gravy, Yorkshire pudding, red cabbage were really nice. Prices were decent, they have a good selection of drinks on tap.

Nice beer and gorgeous setting but food was expensive, scarce and meh.

First, the good stuff. This place is beautiful. If you come here and sit outside you will have a lovely view of the river. The decking and tables are fairly modern and they have some umbrellas and a glass roofed semi indoor seating area. You won't want for anything regarding setting.

I had a beer and I didn't really understand the guy who was serving me but I grasped it was an IPA and it was perfect.

However, there are some other areas where this place doesn't shine. Firstly, the prices Bere are high. It's £17 for bolognese. Some tenderatem brocoli as a side was like £5.50 or something and chips were around there too. Some of the starters we're alamot £8. I have attached a picture of the menu to my review. You can also see our receipt and how expensive the bare bones of dinner was here.

Next up, food quantity. I ordered the fish cakes. Or at least I thought I did. I've never seen them singular before but one only one turned up I double checked the menu and yes, it did just say "fishcake". There was a bit of lettuce and red pepper making a "salad" but essentially I paid £16 for one single fishcake. Actually the fishcake itself was lovely, but ot didn't fill me up and I felt a bit ripped off. I've out a picture of my lonely fishcake below.

My wife had the Cajun burger. It was the most basic burger ever. It was literally just bread - chicken-bread. There was a bit of salad in the side again and some chips, bur the burger was so plain. No sauce. No garnish. It was extra for cheese a slice of bacon (for £16 you could throw in the cheese and bacon, come on). I had a bite and the chicken was flavoured very well in my opinion, but it was dry. So dry. I would have needed some sauce to eat the whole thing myself. The chips were okay but nothing to write home about

Then there was the service. When we arrived the table wasn't clean. I asked for some napkins and cleaned it myself. We ordered drinks and they took ages to come. We ordered food and it came so fast we didn't feel we'd had chance to enjoy the river. Drinks should be quick. For food it's okay to be 20 minutes or a bit longer.

The "drinks" menu didn't have any soft drinks, any mocktails, or even any beer. I wanted beer and my wife wanted mocktails so it seemed a pretty rubbish menu. I asked for beer and guessed what I wanted without knowing the price (it was expensive) and my wife ordered lemonade because she wasn't going to order a mocktail without seeing what was in them (if they served them).

We won't be coming back here. I don't know if there's anywhere better in Windsor but I'd have a look if I were you.

Food was excellent. Very tasty, good portion sizes and beautifully presented. The service was first class, attentive but not in your face. The pub itself was spacious and a lovely spot for dinner in the evening or the day and has appropriate coverings should it rain. A really lively pub tucked away from the hustle and bustle with parking available.

Not been for a few years. Gave it a try for Sunday lunch today and wow! Request for a quiet table due to hearing loss was taken into account (often isn't at many places). Service was friendly and just the right level of attentive. Food was fantastic. The Sunday roasts were gorgeous. The sea bass was worthy of a top restaurant. Vegan options were really lovely too. Wow. Highly recommended.

Met a friend for lunch there today. Staff were lovely and friendly. Have to thank the waitress with the blue hair for recommending the chunky chips! My Caesar salad was the best I have had in years and my friend adored her crab salad. Thanks too to the staff for making me an iced latte in the scorching heat. They were all polite and lovely and left us to get on with our chat with no pressure to leave. Just wish I didn't live eighty miles away!

Brilliant pub, lovely staff. Such a community pub, lovely owners very attentive to staff. Super dog friendly, great garden with fab food and drink. Delivers on so many levels, its our hub for good, family and romantic times ❤
We booked a 2.30 table for Sunday lunch and waited until 3.30 to get our food. This wouldn't have been a problem if the music hadn't been too loud to have a conversation.
The walnut roast was okay, pleasant enough but not noticeably nutty. The rest of the plate was loaded with tired food that looked as if it had been waiting a long time.... for example there was a Yorkshire pudding that was dark brown and very chewy.
Its a shame, because the staff were very pleasant, but I will not be eating there in Sunday again.

Came here for Sunday roast.
The staff were nice and friendly
But the food took tooo long to come. More than 45 minutes

We ordered the roast lamb and roast beef. The lamb wasn’t good. The beef was okay not the best tho.

The place is nice but a bit small and crowded

Omg we popped here for disco bingo. It was so busy. However the staff were all so polite, so friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. And we didn't have to wait long at all considering. Compliments to the chef.
The atmosphere was great, I'm not really a busy pub person. But I had a lovely evening. And wanted to take the time to thank you all. X

Big pub by the river with large outdoor area: mostly under a tent though there is a terrace too.
Ideal spot is to get a table by the river for the views and for that you have to book in advance on weekends and be specific on sitting on the outside terrace.
Food is below average. Beef burger was so dry and tasted bland. Fish and chips was over fried. Duck salad did not taste fresh.
Pick this place for the terrace views but brace yourself for the food.

This is one of my local pubs and I really enjoy it, especially the garden which looks so beautiful in the summer. Sadly I was really disappointed with my fish finger sandwich yesterday, the fish fingers were the sort that you get from a frozen pack, many more pubs are doing amazing homemade versions which I was expecting. I’m also desperately sad that they no longer do the incredible, huge, homemade onion rings that they used to do-please bring them back, my friends and I miss them! However, the service & beer are always good & I enjoyed a good Sunday roast with a big family group recently so all is not lost.

Seems like a nice pub, beside the railway line in Redland just off Chandos road. It was disappointing waiting at the bar to be served after the man who arrived after us asking for "bread". The house red was good but my first impressions of the service are not
We had an amazing experience here. The food and the ambience is amazing. The staff is friendly, cooperative and courteous. We were served by Fin who is very apt, friendly and has a positive persona. Thank you Fin and Chef Adam for a scrumptious meal and a great experience. My family and I had a lovely time and I would surely like to visit this place again 💕💕💕
It was a great experience with the family. The place is steeped in centuries of history and immaculately maintained. We were given personal attention and superb service by Fin who also assisted us to decide and place our order. Chef Adam's recommendations of Fish cake and Roast lamb were perfect. The taste and the memories will linger for long. Would love to visit again to experience the ambience and savour the delicious food.
We had a lovely meal in here tonight. Restaurant itself was very quiet, but the service and food was very good quality and presentation. I would definitely recommend a visit.

The trio of cheesecake was amazing and the Nourish bowl was really nice.

Everything was just perfect from beginning to end for our Sunday lunch: friendly and welcoming staff, great food (and gravy!), reasonable prices, very clean, lovely atmosphere and on top of that the team was so mindful and attentive to my allergies that it gave me peace of mind throughout the whole meal. Yesterday, lovely dinner with my husband by the river. In the pictures “Mediterranean Sea Bass” and “Tiramisù”, the fish - particularly - very fresh and tasty..we really enjoyed! I would have given easily 5 stars but sadly the toilets lowered the score (all of them were quite dirty).

A lovely place right on the river. Offers riverside dining on the outdoor terrace. Best to request a riverside table when booking in advance though.

Had a great menu selection. With enough choices to suit all tastes.

Offers a children's menu too.

Highlight for me was the lamb shank, meat was succulently tender, with creamy mash and a full flavoured gravy

We had booked a table and on arrival were greeted in a friendly manner. The food, drink and service were good throughout. It was nice not to be rushed and we enjoyed our visit entirely. Extremely friendly staff, which makes all the difference. Even better that you kindly sent me a birthday voucher, so thank you for that. We don't live in Milton Keynes but always visit the Wavendon Arms when we shop at IKEA and do our Christmas shopping.
Good portion size, ok range of veggie options. Loads of different ciders on offer

The staff were absolutely amazing!!! They were all smiling and happy to help. We were in for a hen party and they made the evening so lovely. We pre ordered our food and the small touch of coming out saying people’s name of what food they had was so helpful as no one could remember what they had ordered. The food was incredible! A great night was had by all.

We were so deeply disappointed with our experience at this place. We quite genuinely had a MUCH better meal at Nando's the day before. After reading reviews we were really looking forward to our meal. We arrived late on a Sunday and they had run out of roast, which is understandable. We ordered other food, all of which was extremely disappointing. The worst was the "gourmet burger" which was quite literally a burger bun with a well done burger inside (we were not asked how we would like it cooked). No condiments, nothing on top for 16 pounds.

My beautiful lady (Eloise) and I occasionally go to the Black Horse as a nice treat away from our young boys and are always happy with the quality and service we receive.

Recently I've come to realise how special she is to me and how much I love her (I know - very soppy). Being a ruffty-tuffty bloke I had been taking her for granted a bit and decided it was way beyond time I asked her to tie the knot.

So, The Black Horse seemed like the obvious choice of venue for the proposal. I spoke to Darren about my intentions and between us we hatched a plan for the 'event' which included bringing out a vase of flowers, knocking my wallet on the floor (what better way to get on one knee ;o) and filming the moment.

Darren and his team worked like a well oiled machine and made the plan come together absolutely seamlessly - it couldn't have worked out better!

The feeling of energy and atmosphere that errupted around the restaurant when she said yes will live with us both forever.

Darren and the whole team (front and back of house) we'd like to extend a massive thanks your way for what was such a fantastic evening.

I can't recommend The Black Horse highly enough, although I can't comment on the rooms (which are supposed to be fabulous) as we haven't used them.

BOOK A TABLE FOR YOU AND YOUR SPECIAL OTHER RIGHT NOW!!!

Had the lamb and mushroom pie Sunday roast. Best Sunday roast we have had in a long time (possibly ever). Definitely the best vegetarian Sunday roast I've had. Lovely Staff and a nice vibe.
Came her for a Sunday roast, it's definitely lived up to the expectations. Had the beef roast, it was cooked to perfection. The cheesy leaks is one of my roast vegetable favs, so it was nice to see that as an option. Service was really friendly and welcoming. It's a few minutes away from Redland train station.

Very pleasantly surprised. Couldn't fault anything, friendly and welcoming pub with a lovely garden. The food was the nicest we've had anywhere in a long time and will definitely be returning. Even better knowing we can bring the dog. Thanks for a lovely meal. 10/10

Nice looking pub with friendly staff. Convenient location for MK Bowl. Good selection of drinks and some local ales.

Ordered hummus and bread from the sharing menu and it came with one piece of bread. We were left with quite a bit of hummus as it wasn't possible to eat all of it with half a slice of bread each. Did speak to a member of staff and was told that's just the way it comes.

Would go back but not order from the sharing menu.
Food was mostly really good, and beer was great, but honestly the yorkshire pudding is a waste of space on the plate. Would still recommend
Edit:
I've been there today and service approved a lot. We was seated straight away and after few minutes we was ready to order and after a minute we order. Today was great. Service was excellent and food was tasty and excellent as well.

I love the food , it was fantastic, very tasty and nice. Place inside look amazing, calm and its nice restaurant.
Unfortunately after we was seated we was waiting for some to take our order more than an 1h ... after taking order just for drinks , we wait another 30min for different waitress so she took our food order. I was disappointed when waitress told me there were out of food I was waiting to try so I will be back to try it :) (Italian burata.... the dish).

Food arrived in few minutes and was very nice and great. I never eat better burger in my live. Overall was good experience but waitresses need be better or more of them ...
Food is delicious and fish is fresh. Chips are great too. We waited quite a while for the food to arrive but it is worth the wait.
Saw this place while taking a walk, & I loved the name & outdoor vibes. Came back later in the evening with a friend, & it was an instant hit.

I am a huge fan of music, and the playlist was amazing, they had Bose speakers(good taste!). Got a couple of cocktails that were really good. We went inside for a bit & I really liked the seating & lighting too.

Service was good too, the guys at the bar were friendly. Can't wait to go back again.
We had a meal here, what a lovely place. The staff are really attentive and the food was perfect, I fully recommend the place.

Kye provided amazing service! He kept the drinks flowing and took our food order very promptly. Excellent service and we will definitely be returning!
We were highly disappointed by our experience here. We took our family for a Sunday lunch, having read all the wonderful reviews, and it sadly did not meet our expectations at all. The food was lukewarm, barely any gravy. My sister actually asked for more gravy and it never arrived. My husbands meat was actually cold. And the portions were tiny, like they had run out or something. I'm not the sort of person who likes a huge roast dinner but this was the smallest one I've ever been served and we go out for Sunday lunch a lot. To top it all off, we'd paid a £60 deposit when we booked, which we'd sort of forgotten about, turns out the staff had too as they charged us the full amount, thankfully we realised as we were about to drive off and went back in. The funny thing is they weren't even remotely surprised about this, nor did they apologise, just got the card machine and issued the refund. We definitely won't be going back.
My mum and I enjoyed a lovely dinner here. The bar staff namely Frankie was absolutely lovely. So welcoming so polite and couldn’t do enough to accommodate us. She directed us to the restaurant and Kieran was our waiter. Such a lovely polite hardworking gentleman. Constantly waiting on us whilst managing many other tables running up and down the stairs whilst giving each guest an enjoying experience . Our tip reflected our experience. Definitely would return. One of few places these days which is managed so well and has excellent service with credit to our encounter with Frankie and Kieran. Your hardwork is certainly noticed and appreciated guys

Came to Bristol for weekend holiday. Amazing Suday Roast. I had duo beef roast which was very tender and tasty. Gravy was super delicious too. Very friendly and amazing service. Liked the vibe of the place. Would love to come back again
Really good location. Has lots of space indoors and out. Very good food and drinks selection. You can order and pay from your table using an app. Service was fast and food quality was good.
My partner and I celebrated our two year anniversary here. We wanted to write really to thank the serving staff for making it such a wonderful evening for us. Both our servers struck an excellent balance between pleasant chatter and leaving us to our evening.

If the service was great, the food was even better. We both had steak which was recommended to come medium (usually I take medium-rare). Extremely thankful I listened. It came out beyond perfect. The fat had melted like butter and the meat was tender as anything.

The icing on the cake for us was the complimentary anniversary platter which was brought out to us. Hand written "Happy anniversary" in chocolate. It made my partner cry!

Couldn't have asked for better food, service or end to the brilliant night.

Thank you to all involved from us both.

We will be back!

As always, we were impressed with their food, service and soap (smells lovely!!). I try to go here at least 5 times a year, would love to go more but unfortunately my health isn’t particularly great. Always treated with respect when I have to sadly explain my dietary needs, never a problem for them though 😁 Looking forward to going again for my 2nd visit this year in a couple of weeks.

We went for Sunday lunch at 3pm. Very nice place, nice and clean.
Food was ok, meat was tasty and well cooked and the veggies were nice.
Yorkshire pudding was a little dry and could of been sat around for a little while and the same could be said about the roast potatoes.
Will go back again to maybe try an earlier time, to see if there's any difference next time

Aaaaamazing Sunday Roast, it is not a cheap option but it is totally worth it!
I went with my family and everyone said how good everything was.
For the SR, It is a bit different, they had a menu: 2 courses £25 or 3 courses £31.
The pork belly was insane!!! Very very good!! Crispy and juicy! The veggies were delicious.
My parents ordered fish and they weren't less happy, they loved it too.
We also ordered a bottle of white wine (this was nothing especial, I must say)
Desserts were also delicious.
Our main waiter (an English lad who spoke very good Spanish ;) couldn't be more efficient and nicer!
I'd highly recommend this place!
I thought I am going to start posting a photo of the toilet (a friend of mine used to say...how you see the restaurant's toilet is how you can expect the kitchen to be!!
in this case? Very clean!)

Stayed here for one night.
Really lovely room and spotlessly clean. Continental breakfast supplied and a good variety of teas and coffees in the room too. Some really fabulous little touches.
Check in was really easy and the young man that showed us our room explained how the electric blinds, coffee machine etc all worked.
Unfortunately didn't get to eat in the pub but if we need to stay in the area again, I would definitely give it a go.
Would most certainly stay here again. Great little find.

Nearly 5 star - I recently was in Milton Keynes with some friends and decided to head out of town to grab Sunday dinner.

The property is beautiful giving you a real “countryside” feel. There seemed to be plenty of staff and not many customers. So we were looking forward to a steady service.

Sadly the service was rather lack lustre, all staff were very polite but seemed to be very distracted which was a shame.

It did allow myself and friends to have a good catch up, plus the food was excellent!

Lovely pub, really nicely decorated and the garden is absolutely stunning in the summer. Had a roast today and overall it was lovely, my only complaints being the roast potatoes and the lack of crunchy crackling on the pork as promised. The Yorkshire pudding was huge and so fluffy! Worth having the roast just for the yorkie!

It was an en-spec visit, I hadn't booked. Everyone gave a very friendly helpful service, with great carvery served in no time at all. Very good ale. Attractive venue with beams & a TV to watch WC Final next to a roaring fire!

Amazing pub to go for a roast dinner after a walk round Victoria park. You can ask for seconds on potatoes, gravy and Yorkshires - the mushroom wellington and the turkey were both delicious, and the bread and butter pudding was probably the best I’ve had! Also a great selection of local beers on tap which I loved!

Nice Sunday roast, we had lamb shank with gammon and nut roast.

Broccoli and red cabbage was delicious.

Lamb soft and tender.

Service was excellent, made us feel welcome.

Crayons and colouring pages given to the children, which they loved.

The building has high ceilings, lovely beams, and nice green areas around the facility.

Best meal of our UK trip so far. This is a very authentic neighborhood pub (don't be put off by the 'gastropub' label) with a charming staff and a superb Sunday roast. Good value to boot - the servings were immense. High marks all round.
This place was recommended to us and did not disappoint. 6 of us had dinner here the night before my wedding, every one of us really enjoyed our food and the staff overheard my table talking about my wedding and they brought out a special dessert for me. It was such a nice touch!

Lovely lovely place this is! The decor, location & atmosphere was great.

Plenty of parking on site and outdoor seating was beautiful.

The staff were pleasant and the waiting time was not bad at all.

The food was good, portion sizes were big and it is quite affordable. I had a king prawn starter which I was hoping would be cooked but wasn't (not anyone's fault just choose the wrong meal lol) The cod fish and chips were good. Plenty of options on drinks and food menu.

Check out the pictures! 😃
I would recommend and visit again myself 👌🏼😊
Sunday Roast done exquisitely. Simply the best Sunday roast I've had for a long time.
The Sirloin was served pink (as it should be), the pork belly was tender on the inside and crispy skin.
Good sized portions, lots of vegetables and roasted potatoes.
Not your least expensive, but worth every penny.

Friendly staff welcoming environment and pleasant decor. Good for eating a meal with friends family or as a date. Food was hot and delicious, chips a bit too salty but all arrived promptly and staff were very attentive. Wide selection of meat and veggie options plus a selection of salads and healthier options. Extensive drinks menu plus soft drinks teas coffees etc. Will return next time we come over this way.
Toilets are very clean and accessed via stairs.
I believe this pub also does take out food or home delivery.

I love visiting The Black Horse and am constantly impressed with their high quality of food. My first visit, I went in expecting a normal old British pub with some good grub. I couldn't have been more wrong. The Black Horse is beautiful, offering a fabulous classy experience. It is gorgeously decorated, has such a warm group of staff and food that will exceed expectations.
I absolutely find comfort, and this place, the sofas and chairs, make me feel at home with service!
Normally the couch facing the fireplace does it for me. A glass of wine… the King Oyster Mushrooms! I am vegan/vegetarian so this place has yummy foods that are perfect for me. Thanks you Luigi!

Family lunch with my mum and boyfriend. Richard, our waiter was attentive/Superb.
Great atmosphere, they had a wedding reception there, while we were there. The restaurant was quite busy.

Me and my friends came across this pub whilst out walking the dog around Victoria park. The food was great and came out in good time. Staff were friendly and inviting. The beer garden has amazing views across Bristol and there is treats and toys available to keep your fur babies occupied. Well definitely return.

Finally made it to a pub roast! The Old Beams team have adapted very well with all the changes. The garden area which is lovely and spacious can easily accommodate for 100-150 people.

But seeing as the snow had just graced us with its presences we opted for indoors. member of staff called Hugo who was very efficient and helpful looked after us whilst we went through the menu and made our selections.

I must admit the photos won’t do the Christmas decor any justice… the ambience and festive vibe here was amazing!

We would like to say a massive thank you to all members of the old beams team especially during these challenging circumstances for making our spontaneous evening out enjoyable!

Wow Wow Wow. This is an amazing place to go. This pub is tucked away in a corner of Bristol, in a nice neighborhood. The head chef of the restaurant owns a michelin star restaurant, and is an amazing chef. We got to have the privilege of sitting right next to the kitchen to see all of the action, it was very good to watch. I had the battered fish, with triple cooked chips, the fish was beautiful and we'll battered and the chips were probably the best I've ever eaten. For starter I had the the fishcake, which was very crispy and paired well with the homemade pesto underneath, this dish was served and garnished beautifully. For the other starters we had the chalk stream trout tartare and the saffron aranchini, both of which looked lovely. For the other mains we had the pan roasted sea bass, which looked and smelled fresh, you could tell especially with this restaurant that all of their meals were fresh/homemade, the dry aged ribeye, cooked medium rare, this did come out a bit more rare than liked, but with a busy night and with seconds of time to make it cooked well, is completely understandable. To finish of the mains, we had the black treacle and mustard glazed gammon, with eggs, which was again cooked perfectly. For 'afters' we had the sticky toffee pudding, which was rich and the sauce for it was perfectly sweet; the strawberry cheesecake which was presented really well, and tasted lovely, and finally the brownie which had nothing to fault. The atmosphere was lovely, the location the same, and also the decor, and feel to this gastro pub. A must go place for sure!

I'm in love with this pub again! I've been coming here for over thirty years, and would be the first to admit it's had it's ups and downs, but the Swan is DEFINITELY back at it's best. The food and drink is second to none, and every single member of the team goes out of their way to make sure your visit is perfect. There is a genuine caring attitude here. A lovely patio and outside area for sunny days, and also occasional music nights. Children and dogs are welcome too, so everyone is catered for. We've just booked our Christmas lunch here; if you haven't visited the Swan for a while, come and give it a try; you won't be disappointed!
Delicious Sunday roast. Was a little dubious when our order came out within ten mins, but all well cooked (and the veg not overcooked) good portions and very tasty. Would visit again. One star off of service because 3 members of staff asked how our meal was, one after the other!

Lovely lamb and Pork roast dinners (beef and veg options also available) by the fire, lovely service in this family run pub. Food was brilliant, parsnip croquette and dauphinoise potatoes were a nice touch. The vegan apple crumble was also lovely. Would definitely go again.

Always fabulous, food and well-kept beers. Friendly family-run local. Getting ever harder to get a table, especially for their excellent Sunday lunch.

One year on, we've not changed our minds. Just as fabulous post pandemic.

Another year on and the welcome and friendship is just as lovely but now The Lion excels with their Sunday lunch menu and new rice pudding dessert. It's all absolutely delicious.
