It was the weekend and we were able to enter for free. It’s a great building. Walk the steps toward the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, the sculpture work in the building is amazing and explained inside the Museum, view the city from the top, walk into the museum and there is a lot of history about battles that Italy has been part of all the way up to WWI. Also there is Ana amazing exhibit about the artist who won the opportunity to decorate the outside. Exit to the left and walk up the steps toward another museum which is included in your ticket, we didn’t have time to visit, but if you continue around the back there are great views of the Roman Forum.
10/10 recommend. The vastness of this monument is incredible. The location is central to many other sights and is easy to get to via metro bus routes & taxis. Gets very crowded late morning - late afternoon, best to go early as possible. Don’t miss going to the top!

Perhaps the top historical site to visit in Rome, beautiful and magnificent both from outside and inside. If you want to get inside you should book your ticket in advance to avoid big queues. Even if you don't buy the ticket with special access to the arena, you will have beautiful panoramic views of the whole building. It is worth visiting it once in a lifetime.

The most iconic symbol of ancient Rome, on a rainy day of November 2023, the reason I came to Rome mainly to see this in situ. I was amazed by the size and the architecture of this magnificent amphitheater, which could hold up to 80,000 spectators in its heyday. I learned about the history and the culture of the Roman Empire, as well as the gladiatorial games and the public spectacles that took place here. I also enjoyed the views of the surrounding monuments, such as the Arch of Constantine and the Palatine Hill.

The Colosseum is a must-see attraction for anyone who loves history and art. It is well-preserved and well-managed, with informative signs and audio guides. The entrance fee is 16 euros, but it also includes access to the Roman Forum and the Palatine Museum. I recommend booking online in advance to avoid the long queues. The best time to visit is early in the morning or late in the afternoon, when the crowds are smaller and the light is softer. I wish to come again, of course, next to get inside.

The Colosseum is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a symbol of the eternal city. It is a place where you can feel the glory and the tragedy of the ancient world, and appreciate the beauty and the genius of the Roman civilization. It is definitely worth a visit!

Wow. Did not know about this beforehand. Buy a combined ticket along with the Herculaneum excavation. You get an underground guided tour. Simply amazing. Excellent and friendly guides. Groups
Limited to 25 per tour which I believe run every two hours so space is limited.

The Colosseum in Italy is a breathtaking marvel of ancient architecture, and it truly lives up to its reputation. Here are three things I absolutely loved:

Historical Grandeur: The Colosseum's rich history is palpable as you walk through its ancient corridors. It's a mesmerizing journey back in time to the days of gladiators and grand spectacles.

Architectural Splendor: The sheer size and scale of the Colosseum are awe-inspiring. The precision and engineering involved in its construction are a testament to the craftsmanship of the time.

Spectacular Views: Climb to the upper levels for panoramic views of Rome. The scenery is nothing short of spectacular, offering a unique perspective of the city.

Now, for the not-so-great aspects:

Crowds: The Colosseum is understandably popular, which means large crowds. It can get incredibly crowded, making it a bit challenging to fully immerse yourself in the experience.

Restoration Work: While necessary, the ongoing restoration work can sometimes detract from the full visual experience. Scaffolding and repair materials can be seen in certain areas.

My suggestion: Consider booking a guided tour to bypass the lines and gain a deeper understanding of the history and architecture. Also, try to visit during off-peak hours for a more intimate experience.

In the end, the Colosseum is an extraordinary testament to human achievement, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Rome.
Wunderbar anzuschauen. Sehr kunstvoll. Alles sauber. Oben zu stehen, hat schon was.
Also bitte notieren für Ihren Besuch.

A Night to Remember at Verona Arena

Stepping into the Verona Arena is like taking a step back in time. This ancient Roman amphitheater, standing strong since the 1st Century AD, is a sight to see all on its own. It's huge, and you can just feel the history in the air. But when night falls, and Verdi’s Aida begins, it's something else entirely.

Imagine this – hundreds of performers taking the stage in this gigantic, open-air venue. The Arena’s stone walls and the night sky are the backdrop to the epic love story unfolding before your eyes. The music is stirring, filling the entire space, making the experience even more emotional. The costumes, the sets, and the talent of the performers are top-notch, making you feel like you’ve been transported right to ancient Egypt.

Experiencing Aida at the Verona Arena is something you've got to do at least once. It's an amazing combination of history and artistry, and seeing an opera here, under the stars, is something you’ll never forget. It’s a night filled with unbelievable music, powerful performances, and a unique atmosphere that you just can’t get anywhere else. In short, it’s just incredible.

The Verona Arena is a true architectural marvel that captures the essence of history and grandeur. This well-preserved Roman amphitheater, crafted from stunning pink and white limestone, leaves visitors in awe with its colossal structure, graceful arches, and tiered seating. What sets it apart is its vibrant use as a venue for live performances, showcasing its legendary acoustics. It's best to purchase tickets online and skip the long queues at the counters. I highly recommend.

You absolutely have to go here. I'd suggest ordering the tickets online a day or two in advance and just going your own slow guided tour. After that you can check our YouTube and find some real nice virtual tours you can do that night. Highly recommend. Also consider the Roman forum as well as watching the gladiator movie which is very satisfying as usual lol

Very good service and nice service with best ambience
This monument, built to honor first king of unified Italy (Victor Emmanuel II), is really remarkably big. Its greatness is evidenced by the fact that wherever you go in the center of Rome, you will always see at least part of this monumemt. The entrance is for free, but there is an admission of around 12€ per person if you want to take the lift up to the terrace. Also - Colosseum is just a little walk away from here.
It's while looking at the arena you truly feel like being transported to ancient times. The building is magnificent and awe inspiring. The only "bad" (not truly bad, but for us as visitors) thing was that it was being prepared for an opera performance, which kind of takes the vibe away a bit. But of course, it's amazing it's still being used today and I wouldn't want it any other way. The queues are super long, so it's definitely worth it buying the ticket online or using the Verona card that allows you to skip the line.

Beautiful and ancient town boasting the remains of a Roman amphitheatre reputedly slightly older than the one in Rome. Not to be missed are Juliet's (supposed) balcony and statue. Lovely quaint streets full of shops abound, as do restaurants and bars. Be prepared to do a lot of walking to see all the sights and items of interest in this incredibly historical place.

We bought tickets for the Palatine to the House of Augustus. Unfortunately, we didn't have a special ticket, but the exterior and the thought that the great Augustus lived here was very inspiring.

Beyond the Leaning Tower and the Duomo, Pisa offers a wealth of attractions. Take a stroll along the Arno River, visit the historic Piazza dei Cavalieri, or explore the Piazza delle Vettovaglie, a lively square lined with cafes and markets. Pisa is also home to prestigious universities, contributing to a vibrant student atmosphere and a range of cultural events throughout the year.

Breathtaking place.
This is probably the best example of an Imperial Roman Villa we have ever found. You can access it only with a 'Super Site' ticket which is bought as an upgrade to the Forum ticket, but the $$ is not much.
There are numerous painted rooms, but the last ones that have been restored will leave you amazed. Some rooms are protected by glass and in a controlled atmosphere, in others you can go inside and admire original colors that look fairly freshly painted.
In addition to the interior of the Villa, there are the outbuildings like baths, & storage. (I was impressed with the ancient plumbing arrangements on display as much as anything . . )
Courteous, attentive and prepared staff are there also to answer your questions or you can sit down & watch the introductory video. This Villa complex should stay on your wish list if you're in Roma. . .

Empfehlenswert!
Bountiful place with easy access. No admission pay... Carpark is located 100m away.
Lots of souvenirs to buy for a low price.
Beautiful building and statue BUT:

The workers here are running a scam for tickets to the top terrace.

They come up with any reason for your ticket to be “invalid” and then make you wait in line to get a “refund” which is just them giving you a slip with an email that you can message to in their words “try to get a refund”.

The line for refund slips is equally as long as the line for tickets.

It’s clear the workers have a way of pocketing the money when you “refund” the ticket yet you don’t actually get your cash back.

Obviously there’s a lot of tourist scams in Rome, but it’s sad that the workers at an actual government-backed tourist site are running one.

Very unfortunate because it’s a beautiful, beautiful site! I still recommend visiting, just not going to the very top or being VERY careful when buying tickets to the very top. Probably a good idea to just buy the most expensive tickets so they can’t tell you you bought the wrong ones.

For us we got the 18-25 yr old tickets and they said we had to be from the EU to use these tickets even though it says that no where on the sign, and there is a guy standing right next to the ticket machine, not helping people to choose the right tickets, but just waiting for them to buy the tickets and then telling them they bought the wrong ones and where to go to start the refund process.
Only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is because of the ticketing to go to the roof for a panoramic view. There are 2 queues for the panoramic view, standard and fast track and I will leave it at that.

Besides this, if you head over to the wall towards Colosseum you will be able to get a great view of the landscape.

Rome has started to implement capitalist system and this somewhat ruined the experience for me.

Augustus' Palace is signposted. Show with light and tone absolute worth the entrance.
Most Toilets out of order. Use bar.
Massive statue of the first king of the unified Italy. Don't miss the chance to walk up the stairs for a closer look. There is no entrance fee!

Only open on Saturdays
The entrance is free and you can climb to the terrace from which you can see the whole city. There is also a small exhibition inside but a large part was closed, including the medium level terrace. There is an elevator which you can use to climb to the very top of the monument and it is totally worth it.
A must-see for a trip to Rome. Amazing place in the heart of the old town. Surrounded by monuments, basilicas contrasting with beautiful nature. A monumental building showing the power of the Roman Empire. Beautiful decorations, sculptures and views of old Rome and the Vatican. In the background the colosseum. Very clean, you can see that it is an important cultural point of Rome. I recommend that you see it with your own eyes even when passing through Rome.

Like so much of classical Rome the still stunning remains of the Septizodium were destroyed by a pope. In 1588, during the reign of Pope Sixtus V, the eastern facade of the building was demolished under the direction of Domenico Fontana. The stones obtained were used for the basement of the Flaminio Obelisk of Piazza del Popolo, the restoration of the Column of Marcus Aurelius, the pope's tomb in St. Mary Major and other structures. This process was repeated for centuries. Ancient structures were used as building materials by the Christian authorities (the added benefit being the destruction of “pagan” culture which the church wanted to eradicate). When you’re visiting churches within Rome reflect on this. Imagine that once the columns you see were most likely part of an ancient Roman temple. Fascinating.
Analysing pictures on Google maps I was sure I can enter the rooms of house of Augustus. You actually have to watch them through windows and it's not easy to see them during the sunny day.

Edit:
Now I know that most parts of the house are closed dure covid. Better visit that place after covid then.

The Septizonium or Settizodio was a monumental facade of a nymphaeum , which looks like theater scene Vitruvian , multi-storey columns, made raise Emperor Septimius Severus in 203 at the foot of the Palatine hill in Rome . It stood on the south-eastern side of the Palatine and constituted the facade of the Domus Severiana on this side, overlooking the Via Appia . The Domusand the Settizonio constituted a wing added to the Domus Augustana by Septimius Severus, south of the Palatine Stadium , in the context of the arrangement of the southern and south-eastern slopes of the hill, where the thermal buildings started about a century earlier by Domitian were completed. The building is known from the plan on the Severian Forma Urbis and from Renaissance drawings. The table was long 89 meters (300 Roman feet) and similar to the theater frons: there were three semicircular niches and extremities were two jutting square base, handling with straight edges and smooth curves the front, which was composed of three floors colonnades of decreasing height upwards. In the niches there were as many circular fountains, with a single tank that collected the waters, at the bottom. The general inspiration is to be correlated with the "Baroque" Asian taste, while we do not have certain architectural fragments that allow us to verify whether the decoration was also of similar taste. As models we can cite the Nymphaeum of Miletus , from the Trajan era, and the Nymphaeum of Aspendos , from the Hadrian era, which in turn were inspired by the scenes of the theatrical buildings that were initially equipped with water games: not surprisingly it was just in this epoch that the shows of aquatic mime spread in tanks ( colimbétre ), adapted in the hyposcene or in the orchestra . And it is still standing as a historical landmark & a tourist attraction in Rome.

Murano was a surprise to say the least. A quick water taxi ride over, and you will spend the entire day perusing shops that primarily cater to their world renowned glass-makers. The merchants that line the waterway are some of the friendliest I found in all of Italy, and they made me glad to part ways with my money here. Definitely take the time to visit here from Venice, and see what the artisans turn out. Many places will even allow you to watch as the glass is blown and turned. Truly an amazing work of art.

Nice from the outside. Although it was closed when I arrived on Wednesday at 4pm.

Probably worth emailing them to ask when it opens to save yourself from a wasted trip!

I guess the glass sculpture here is being changed occasionally. Good panaromic place
Amazing place! Just like the Venice's gondolas or the coliseum in Rome the leaning tower of Pisa belongs to the most important land marks of Italy.
The place is really crowded. We arrived in later in the afternoon had a walk around the site just before closing. There were less tourists and we manage to make some really nice evening pictures.
