Sooooo busy, far too many people allowed in at the same time. Lots of big group tours and you are just unable to get through the crowds let alone actually look at things. The ceilings are absolutely beautiful but I wouldn't go again. Definitely book skip the line tickets as the queues are very long.

Huge place, but incredible. You need almost a day if you want to see everything. It closes at around 6a.m. so it is better to visit early in the morning
Not just the Sistine Chapel. Many amazing works, sculptures, paintings, frescoes, tapestries, and mosaics. Glad we went on a tour but we’d like to go back again and pass through at a much slower pace to really appreciate everything there is to see.
Magnificent and so much history and beauty to take in. The skip-line-tickets are worth it! Go early before it gets too crowded. Audio guides for €8 are a wealth of information and makes sense of what you’re seeing and you can wander at your own pace.
This site is just plain gorgeous! A must see. Once we landed got settled in hotel walked straight here. Was around 7 or 8pm when we walked by fountains.

A once in a lifetime to visit wonder but a bit overhyped and over packed with tourists even during the off holiday season. Expect huge crowds with no space to move at times and waiting up to two hours if you do not take the booked priority entrance option at a specific time and date.
It's amazing what Michael Angelo painted for the church and how long it took, but more amazing it's the message. Now I know why this is such a world heritage site, definitely a bucket list place. Didn't care too much for the museums, not what I was expecting, but this chapel surely is all that it represents

This is a beautiful place. It will take you half day to go around the city. Book tickets in advance but it’s best to do a self guided tour as the English tour guides don’t have a clear English accent and the tours are difficult to follow. Better to book in advance if deciding to go.
Very impressive collection of Roman art and antiquities. The museum is much more than the chapel. Advance tickets are a must. Unfortunately the crowds are so dense it makes it hard to stop and enjoy all the wings of the museum. Highly recommend finding a way to visit during off hours or time of the year. I went in late September and it was still jam packed.
An amazing architecture along with the paintings will leave your brain freeze. Official residence of the Pope has original painting by Michelangelo on the ceilings. A must visit place in Rome...buy the tickets in advance for skip the line queue and always good to have less than 10 in the group. Reach early at 8.00 am and budget around 4 hrs for the full visit.
Amazing creation of Michaelangelo - from genius sculptor to genius painter. Takes one's breath away - literally and figuratively!! There is a large crush of people in the room, jostling for a good position to view the ceiling, the security folks trying to keep order - this aspect takes away from one's ability to take in and quietly enjoy the paintings. It gets pretty claustrophobic in there. One is also not allowed to take pictures in the Sistine Chapel! Highly advisable to join a guided tour to visit as the entry time is guaranteed. Otherwise, the very long lines outside can take up half a day for one to be able to even enter the Vatican museum.
Totally blown away with the breathtaking paintings and art within the corridors leading to the actual chapel. If you like history and arts this is a master piece of a place. It can get busy and the gardens outside are also remarkable. You can take pics and video leading into the chapel but be warned you will not be able to take pics whilst inside.. totally worth the visit...

If you just want to see the Sistine Chapel, I recommend skipping ahead and going straight to it. The museum is big and can be tiring, I went to the Sistine Chapel and I didn't regret it. The audio guide is very explanatory. You must wear appropriate clothing to enter the Chapel, covering your shoulders and knees. You cannot take photos and must remain silent.

Absolutely worth the visit, even if you are not religious. It was so beautiful. We loved everything about it but you really should spend the day there. On tour, we were so rushed and I’d recommend maybe not going with a tour, and maybe find an audio guide instead. The museum, Sistine chapel and St Peter’s basilica was so impressive to see.
we went at 1700, well after the tourist coaches had gone and there was no queue for entry, and although the dome wasn't open the basilica was less crowded. try to visit the grotto/crypt to see the tombs of past popes, it's interesting, and make sure to look out for the Swiss guard! amazing place, truly breathtaking!
Clearly overrated. Busy, hot inside, very crowded, poor lighting. I would not go again. However, the Vatican Museum is a great place to visit on the way to the Sistine chapel. I loved the Egyptian exhibition and the Roman part. Modern art section is the total loss of time and space in my opinion. Overall I would give a 2-3/5 rating.
This place is far too splendid not to visit at least once in your lifetime.

Tickets were sold out when I went to visit, but noticed the guided tour tickets were still available. I recommend buying guided tour tickets as you get a history of the sculptured in the Museum, as well as the paintings in the Sistine Chapel.

There are multiple gift shops throughout the buildings, and 2 cafés (one was closed on the day I was there). Upon completion of the tour, you’re able to walk through everything you visited previously, as long as you don’t exit the building!

Beautiful and very peaceful place. At 12:00 on Sundays, the Pope speaks the Gospel of the day and a brief homily to the faithful, we did not know this information and it was a pleasant surprise. You must be dressed appropriately to enter the basilica, covering shoulders and knees.

Incredible history and exhibits. There is so much to see, it has to be the most impressive museum next to the Louvre.

Bad thing: Its rly rly hot inside during summer be ready for it, getting ticket is hard and lines are long.
Good: You can spend a week in there if you are history or art geek. The amount of things you can see is astonishing.
I am giving it a 4 mainly because of non existing ventilation in there and how hard was focusing on beauty of this place with heat cranked to max.

This is the best and must see in Vatican. Every single angle is worthy to see.

We booked guided tour in advanced online and that was the best decision we ever made. We booked the earliest tour that also include American breakfast. It was hot and no AC inside the museum, so the earlier you go, the better. The breakfast was good. The quality is much better than what we had in US. Our tourguide was knowledgeable and very organized
After sweating it out waiting in line for 45 minutes to get past the security check that Everyone has to go through... The actual crowd inside the Basilica was not that bad. With the Not That Bad crowd (some shoulder to shoulder areas), you could take your time to view the beauty of the Sistine Chapel.

During our visit of eternal brilliant city Rome, incomparable Vatican City, Vatican Museums, we saw those two beautiful and unique fountains at Piazza. And the right one is outstanding Maderno Fountain in that Piazza San Pietro. It's one of the most beautiful fountains in the city, and it's easy to see why. It was commissioned by Pope Paul V in 1612 and was completed by Carlo Maderno in 1614. It's made up of a central basin with two large sculptures of river gods, one representing the Tiber and the other representing the Nile. The sculptures are surrounded by cascading water, and they're topped by a central obelisk.
The Maderno Fountain is a truly must-see for any visitor to Rome in my opinion. We were particularly impressed by the way the fountain reflects the beauty of the surrounding architecture, including St. Peter's Basilica. It's a truly magical place to spend some time, and we highly recommend it.

The interior of St Peter's Basilica is beyond words. Absolutely awesome and amazing statues and paintings. I was even more in awe than I expected especially the Sistine Chapel. Even if you are not a devout Catholic the genius of the art work and historical relevance is undeniable. A must see for history buffs and art lovers alike and of course devout Catholics.

After a quick elevator ride which takes you about half way and you have to walk a set of winding corkscrew stairs a few hundred steps. We took our a 1.5 year old daughter strapped to the chest so it is quite the workout. But well work it as it is a thrilling view at the top of the dome.
From this vantage point there are panoramic 360 degree views outside onto all corners of the square and Vatican city. Inside you can see down into the basilica and amazing interior from up above. Even part way down the views are spectacular. Definitely worth going to Vatican city and up the dome to see this magnificent place.

Extremely hot day. So many visitors. Felt the heat walking through the museums to the Sistine Chapel. Expected a reverent silence but too many tour groups! Didn't spoil the experience too much.

Fantastic views from the 500+ steps
Absolutely marvelous. I have always wanted to see the fresco inside Sistine Chapel which was so meticulously done by Michelangelo. We spent some time there appreciating the painting on the ceiling. Photography was however prohibited inside Sistine Chapel and there were guards who were forbidding people to do it.

A must visit! We arrived at 7am and there was no line. The Basilica is impeccable. I recommend going up even if there is a wait because it will be worth it!

W 28 niszach prezentowane są między innymi posągi Kariatydy, Junony, bogini Fortuny, czy Artemidy oraz popiersia słynnych rzymskich imperatorów (np. popiersie cesarza Hadriana). To tutaj znajduje się olbrzymi posąg przedstawiający boga rzeki Nil datowany na koniec I wieku. Warto zatrzymać się na dłużej i przyjrzeć mnogości wyrzeźbionych tu elementów.
This was the most amazing experience I've ever had. To be able to experience history and my faith all in one spot was an out of this world experience. The sheer beauty of the art, both in the museum and on the ceiling, was something everyone should experience at least once.
The queues to get in are so huge that your knees soften just from looking at them. We didn't came inside.

There are two fountains across from each other towards the entrance of the square, this is the one to the right. From Google Photos they look pretty similar. They're beautiful, we saw the fountain earlier in the day and closer to sunset. It was absolutely beautiful. We left around 11 am the first time that we were there, the lighting was already harsh, it was pretty hot, and the crowds were getting to be too much.
This was a lot more enjoyable in the late afternoon. We were able to sit by the fountain and eat some snacks, relax in it's shadow, and not be bothered. There were plenty of other people trying to take photos on the other side of the fountain, and they really took their time because the crowds had died down by a lot.

Everywhere you look has something amazing to see from the sculptures to the floor, ceiling it's very interesting and beautiful
Beautiful Courtyard before you enter the Vatican museum and rooms. Its name is due to the huge bronze cone in the courtyard. The work, four meters high and two metres wide. Also in the courtyard is the "Sphere with sphere" by Arnaldo Pomodoro.

This is a fountain in the St Peter's basilica square. Very beautiful. The water is always running. You can drink water from any fountain in Rome.
Always wanted to visit the square and St Peter's basilica. The square is beautiful. You' ll get tiredof taking pictures but not run outof spots.
In front of the Statue of Saint Longinus by Bernini in Saint Peter's Basilica, to our right as we look at the Altar, there is a descending staircase that leads under the Basilica, to the Grotte Vaticane. From there we can see the Tomb of Saint Peter which is under the Altar and protected behind glass. Also, there are the tombs of various Popes, among them the most recent interment, that of Pope Benedict XVI, on 5 January 2023.
On the floor of the Basilica are the golden air vents for the crypt. Although photos are not allowed there, I couldn't resist and snapped a few in a hurry, and that too without quality.
I have repeatedly submitted a request to Google Maps to add the place to the maps but it does not approve.
This is not the Vatican Necropolis that is marked on the map inside the Basilica, although some have mistakenly uploaded photos from the Grotte Vaticane there, as I eventually did.

The northern-most of the two fountains in St Peters Square (to the right as you face towards the Basilica), the Moderno fountain dates back to 1612.
This has been one of my favorite sights so far in Rome. It is such a beautiful plaza with monuments and fountains. The architecture is absolutely stunning, and you can get some great shots of the Basilica from this spot.

You can take photo no restrictions. Water fountain is beautiful at night time. People are walking with pets as well.

Na wstępie ekspozycji jest ogromnych rozmiarów sąd ostateczny, warto go bliżej obejrzeć, zmienia to trochę perspektywę Boskiej Komedii, autorstwa Dantego.

We were walking around on a Sunday- in town for 3 nights - and decided to walk up to the Vatican. Very busy as we arrived, but we bustled into the square and within a few minutes people started cheering.
The pope was making his Sunday midday address.
And we'd just stumbled in like the ignorant tourists we were.
Amazing experience out of nowhere and would strongly recommend.
I do not speak Italian so you better believe I did not understand a single 1 word he spoke but very cool nonetheless

Pretty cool little spot that most people miss. I’m glad a local told me about it. It’s small but has multiple levels with a lot of history inside. Not expensive either. Worth checking it out if you’re in the area
Part of the Vatican Museums, this hall consists of beautiful Roman and Greek sculptures and other art work. Take your time to soak in the beauty and amazing work. Absolutely worth it.
Amazing square. Everyone has to see it and feel it. There are fountains with drinking water in the square, it falls very hard because it is very hot there.

View from the top of the Vatican is well worth the 500 steps to the top! It is a little tight the closer you get so if closterphobic you might want to get up the courage first!
The spiritual and literal home of the Catholic church which is well worth visiting for the mad architecture alone. I didn’t see the Pope though. Best visited during the pandemic to avoid the large crowds and queues!
Approfittate di questo spazio perché poi vi aspetta una scarpinata tra capolavori e affreschi e non potrete prendere neanche una boccata d'aria fino a dopo la cappella Sistina. In realtà dovrete passare per il cortile della Pigna ma sarà per visitarlo. Da qui si gode di una panoramica privilegiata non solo su cupola ma anche su altri punti come la pinacoteca, il giardino segreto o la cappella Sistina. Da qui si parte per la visita della pinacoteca e delle gallerie superiori. Se dovete andare alla toilette ricordatevi quando siete qui. Guardate le foto e le altre recensioni sui musei vaticani e su Roma e le sue meraviglie e se sono stato utile cliccate su utile.

Very interesting tour under the Vatican to see the site of St Peter's tomb. Book in advance making sure you use the official site, pass through some security screens to the Ufficio Scavi. The tour guide was very interesting and knowledgeable - tours available in multiple languages and take around one hour or so. During COVID it's necessary to have a vaccination Green Pass. We also had to wear FFP2/N95 masks and they provided plastic gloves to wear. It's hot and humid even in winter. There are various stairs and uneven surfaces so not suitable for wheelchair users or people with mobility issues. Photos not allowed anywhere inside. Worth a visit whether you are religious or not. Tour ends in the Basilica so you can see that at the end if you want.
Vatican City, a city-state surrounded by Rome, Italy, is the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church. It's home to the Pope and a trove of iconic art and architecture. Its Vatican Museums house ancient Roman sculptures such as the famed “Laocoön and His Sons” as well as Renaissance frescoes in the Raphael Rooms and the Sistine Chapel, famous for Michelangelo’s ceiling.
A walk down the history class memories. It's a must visit place once in a lifetime. There is painting in every inch of this place. The paintings are so detailed and beautiful that one will be mesmerized. Since we visited the place during the weekend it was a bit crowded than usual. Would recommend booking a guided tour so that you don't miss out on important details.
The Christmas decorations were so beautiful. We were lucky to be there during the season and that year (2019).

Just you have to buy the ticket yourself to see those treasures.
Very nice and great place. You are given an earphone so that guide can do his job and you listen to him. Paintings and cravings are tremendous. Architecture is great along with the atmosphere outside and inside of the great hall. There is a very nice rotating thing outside and it's very pleasing for photoshoots.

My father really wanted to go to the Vatican due to it's religious history. We didn't have any kind of scheduled tour or reservation. The line was wrapped halfway around the entire Vatican which needless to say was thousands and thousands of people and was going to take four or five hours to get in! We ended up going a few blocks down the street and paid for a guided tour which got us up to the front of the line only waiting maybe 30 minutes.
The crowds are really bad. Watch your pockets as the Vatican has more crime (pick pockets) per capita than any other city on the planet. This was one of the tidbits of information I learned on the tour.
