Came here March 2024 - one of the better/more authentic Chinese restaurants I've had in the CBD!

For meats, we got a sweet and sour pork (#64) + roast duck (#44) + bean curd w sliced pork/mushroom (#73). For veg, we had chinese broccoli w garlic (#119) was good.

Overall, the food was really good. A bit too salty for my taste but can be adjusted. Good value too. The vibe is also very 'authentic' and I'd definitely return!
Food was good but everything is over priced. You can get similar quality in another restaurant in Chinatown and cheaper. Most of the dishes are very small so you need to order double serve. The customer service was fantastic, especially Louis , he’s very friendly, caring and helpful. The chefs might need to try not to yell as customers can hear from the dining area 😅
Great restaurant. The food and quality was brilliant. Very tasty yum cha. Yes definitely book to avoid the line. It's a little on the pricey side but you do get what you pay for. We went on a Sunday with the kids.

Dumplings are well priced and tasty. Service is mostly good. The decor is starting to look very dated and run down. The outdoor consists of old mismatched chairs and tables and is very limited. Comparing to Healthy Burger next door Dumplings are us are obviously running a strict budget on attracting patrons. Lucky thier dumplings taste good and are well priced because the aging infrastructure would not lure the average punter through the doors.

Food was shocking, paid $18 for honey chicken, came in a little brown bag with a few pieces of chicken with a shocking small amount of sauce as well definitely not worth the price the honey sauce was terrible, and the chicken was dry
A beautiful venue for the most delicious food! Never had dumplings that perfect & melt in your mouth! Peking duck skin so crispy and pancakes made table side. Service was impeccable. Couldn’t fault it, have told everyone it’s a Melbourne must!

We have been dining here for years as a group, since they opened. Tonight was so bad we will not return. The waitress had difficulty dealing with the menu, however we overcame that with giving her assistance. She needs glasses poor woman and chef our of control..The food was simply terrible. Dim Sum was cold and totally collapsed. We sent it back and received an identical dish 8 minutes later ; think they just recycled!
My companion complained, in a very gentile manner to the long term employee who often cooks (not tonight unfortunately) and he was just disinterested. The remainder of our dishes were very ordinary. Masamman curry overcooked and had to hunt for the noodles with Pad See Ew which are cheap. Will not return

An incredible authentic amazing Chinese restaurant!!! A must visit as a tourist in Melbourne. The service was quick and efficient and the food choice was spectacular! The food flavours itself were delicious and of high quality with brilliant value for money!!!!!

I ordered the combination short soup, and I was very disappointed. The clear soup additive was way too salty, and I can’t get the taste out of my mind. The veggies and wontons were overcooked. Get your act together Fairlight Kitchen, considering we are paying over-the-top for what is essentially a soup with a few additives thrown in. When it’s done well, a combination short soup is hard to beat.
Derek our server for the night was awesome, feels like meeting a long time lost friend as we both came from Hong Kong and talked a lot and he basically chose what we ate that night so it was his special “omakase” which was great. The price was below what u expected as well for the quality and quantity, would come back for sure if I stop by in MEL.
Treated myself to an 'Out of This World' dining experience last night at Melbourne’s ‘Flower Drum’ – This is a high end traditional Cantonese restaurant that has stood the test of time. Why? Consistently meticulously prepped Cantonese food that’s wheeled out on trolleys, and my Peking duck was prepared at the table with a few quick manoeuvres by the expert waiter. It’s practically performance art as you dine - not bad. Food was full of flavour and tasty, and a work of art. The Flower Drum’s mantra is a dedicated service that combines great food, fine wine, impeccable service for a unique dining experience each and every time – and it delivers in spades. This is not your everyday restaurant, but a special occasion spot to impress the family or out-of-town guests or simply treat yourself. Very highly recommended 👏👍😊

No love left. We've enjoyed this place over the years but this time was our last. Service was almost nonexistent, food was rushed. My pork dumplings were tepid and raw in the middle. Instead of steaming them for 2 more minutes the chef returned them to me to say they were supposed to be that way. We're not fussy and eat dumplings almost weekly and this is just not worth it, there's nicer dumplings a few doors down.
There is a very good reason why Flower Drum is a Melbourne institution.
This wonderful restaurant has been serving terrific food since the mid 1970s.
We were very well looked after by our waiter - the very hospitable and professional Barney. At the young age of 73, he's also been looking after Melbourne locals and visitors here for many decades. He made a great night even more memorable!
We have dined here a few times over the years and Flower Drum has never disappointed.
Here are a few photos from our recent visit.
Thanks once again Flower Drum.
We will be back soon! :-)
The food in this restaurant is very authentic. The menu is quite extensive and contains lots of choices for live seafood. The service at this place is impeccable. Every dish is served in individually-sized portions. Everything we ordered was very tasty. It was an excellent meal.
Great place for a late night feed or something tasty on the go. We enjoyed the fried chicken and prawn dumplings and they were excellent. The vegetarian dumplings with noodles and bok choy in broth were nice but a little bland. The lady serving us was lovely and the food was exactly what we needed at 10pm.

Had a meal from here last night at the time my friend and were impressed with the meal. However later that evening and into the morning my friend was running to the bathroom and feeling rather ordinary.

Gotta say, Im a big fan of Supper Inn. Normally I bump chairs with it after a comedy festival gig, but this time it was a Monday night rendezvous so I could catch up with me nephew.
Firstly, love being in China Town, it's always got stuff going and sneaking up a small street to SI, may even make me a local 'nihao' 😅
I went with the two dishes I loved as a kid, sweet n sour pork and beef n black bean sauce and favourite nephew (Dan) suggested the special, fried Kuey Teow (we didn't know what it was but hey, we live on the edge heh heh), oh fyi, it was a fried ricey dish with Prawns.
Anyhoo, all was scrummy ( yes that's a culinary word I'm bringing to the table).. and all up, a bloody good night was had.

Service was good. Always pleasant and efficient. The decor, let's say if they were looking for shabby chic, they nailed it. But really, I'd keep going back as you'd get a good Supper In (please unfollow as that humour will persist)

Alas, I'm yet to find a place I can bring Zip, darn it!
Everytime we go to the Australia Open, we visit Flower Drum and it has been consistently good every single time. We have been around 5 times since 2019, and have left impressed after every visit. The service is exceptionally and so is the food. Not surprised by all the awards!

Just visiting Newcastle for work and I happened to walk past this restaurant while thinking of what to get for dinner. A young family were eating outside and their food looked so good I stopped and ordered pad see ew take-away for dinner tonight. I’m eating it as I write this review, and it is so yum! It’s one of my favourite dishes that I always get and they are usually delicious no matter where I buy it from. This one however has so much flavour and it has such a great ratio of meat, noodle and veg (I got beef). Will definitely order it again when I come back to Newy. The only thing I would change would be to add a slice of lemon that I could squeeze over it but that would only add to it. Not having it doesn’t take anything away from the food. Much appreciated!!!!

Very surprised on how quickly this place fills up. Less than 20 mins of their opening, the restaurant was full! And it’s very noisy and has the HK vibe!

Prices are not cheap, but the food is nice! But I probably will not come back as I really would prefer a much quieter and nicer looking restaurant to dine for the price I’m paying.

You have to climb a flight of stairs to reach the restaurant, and it’s quite cramped inside, so it’s not wheelchair friendly.
We used to come here regularly but not since they've had new management. They've changed a few things to optimise for efficiency.

The reservation is at the ground floor entrance, which is more effective for walk-ins. BUT, we only get a one hour slot, which totally reduced how much we would normally eat here.

Once seated, we chose our orders from a paper menu. Those iconic trolley ladies are a memory of the past. Service was perfunctory and felt "clinical". I would rather order from QR code and have a robot deliver the food when it's like that.

The dim sum menu is still plentiful but due tu the time limit, we couldn't relax. What we ate had good flavours as we'd come to expect. It was a bit of a let-down experience overall, and we're not likely to hurry back.
Ordered online, transaction was processed and I was quoted a pickup time but the restaurant was completely closed on arrival at the pickup time.

My favourite restaurant, always amazing quality food, and lovely people 😊
Crystal Jade Restaurant is an elegant Asian restaurant located in the busy cultural hub of Melbourne. It serves dim sum in a simple and stylish setting. The restaurant has a rating of 4 stars on Google Maps, which is a testament to its quality.

It’s not cheap how ever. Dim sum for 6 people was $280.

I can tell you that the restaurant has deservedly a good reputation and is known for its delicious dim sum. If you are looking for a nice place to enjoy a traditional Chinese meal, Crystal Jade Restaurant is a great option.

The food is delicious and authentic.
The service is friendly and attentive.
The atmosphere is elegant and stylish.
The restaurant is located in a convenient location.

If you are looking for a negative review, I could not find any. This suggests that Crystal Jade Restaurant is a generally well-liked establishment.

Overall, Crystal Jade Restaurant is a great place to enjoy a delicious and authentic Chinese meal. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a nice restaurant in Melbourne.

Friend took us there , it was an unexpected surprise, it was very Thai. The green curry bibimbap is top-notch, the soft-shell crab is crispy and smothered in one bite and the stir-fried pork belly vegetable also great with rice , but the deep fried barramundi and egg fried rice are a bit average. The environment is good, the seats are quite spacious, and the service is always there when you ask for it. Because they are too busy , when we paid the bill, waited for a while .The most important thing in the end is that the price/performance ratio is unbeatable. Highly recommended.

Traditional Chinese cuisine includes a variety of dishes including fried, boiled, steamed and stewed. The children especially liked the vegetable soup, which was very delicious. We will come back again!
We come here every time we are in Melbourne. Great food but they should better improve the system for queue…they can at least let us write down names… We were told to wait for register our name but ended up a lot of no reservation people show up and didn’t queue just because standing near the lady at reception. Not fair.

Love coming to this no-nonsense Chinese restaurant that has been very popular with the evening crowds for decades now. This is my go-to place for late night meals. Highly recommend the XO sauce pipis with congee. Most dishes are delicious and serve family style. Always busy and noisy but fun atmosphere. It is located in a small alley in the middle of Chinatown but worth the visit.

Great yumcha experience in Chinatown. My favourite place to visit over the weekend, or sometimes during the week with my office colleagues 😃

Service ⭐️ 5/5
Relatively new and clean venue. Lots of young faces and flexible staff. A wide selection of food and drinks is offered, and they come to check on you every now and then.

Food ⭐️ 5/5
Selections of yumcha classics are available. My favourite is rice roll and the steamed cake 🥢 Beef tendons and stomachs were nicely sweetened, and the savory balance paired well with the herb and ginger aftertaste.

Yummy Chinese! We ordered stir fried veg, empire chicken, Singapore noodles, spring rolls and deep fried pork w Peking sauce. All were super tasty and good portions. Ordering and pick up were easy and our order was ready in less than 15min. We'll be back!
My wife and I had visited Flower Drum for dinner for the 1st time and I must say it was a superb experience right from the time we walked in until we left.

Vincent was our waiter and his service and knowledge was fantastic. John the sommelier was very friendly and so was Brian the supervisor.

I had the signature banquet while my wife had the spring tasting menu, both were excellent and more than enough to eat.

We will surely return when we are next in town. If I could give the rating for the service out of 10, I would give a 12.

Kudos Flower Drum 🌺 🥁 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Authentic Chinese. Noisy, busy, slightly chaotic and unorganised. Food comes out the kitchen in no logical order and it’s hard to get the attention of the staff sometimes. Given all that the food was fresh, tasty and really enjoyable. Take your time and enjoy the atmosphere and all wonderful food here. Recommend the cockles/pippies and flounder. Check it out.

🥢 late night chinese feast
🏠: @supperinn
📍: Little Bourke St, CBD

📝: Late nights at Supper Inn, where flavors come alive in a modest space that bustles with energy. With live seafood telling tales from the sea and large plates inviting all to share, it’s a culinary story waiting to unfold. And with BYO in hand, we toast to the feast that awaits. Here’s to another unforgettable moment at Supper Inn 🥢🌙

❤️: Whether it’s the succulent 🦆duck, tender 🐔 chicken, or 🐽flavorful BBQ pork, Supper Inn ensures you don’t have to pick favorites — they’ve got them all. Our adventurous side was tempted with the 🔥🍚 Fujian Fried Rice, a delightful surprise of tasty fried rice draped in a unique gravy. And no visit is complete without indulging in the classic Stir Fried Pipis with Chinese Doughnuts in XO Sauce.

This place is definitely a gem for late night walk in food. We got dumplings, thai fried rice, fried chicken with peanuts. Everything was delicious, service was quick and reasonably priced. One of those places where you walk in, when you are really hungry and walk out happy and full without creating a hole in your pocket.

Horrible and rude service. Went in to order takeout and even paid them cash. Server took forever to pack the food and when asked if she included cutlery, she rudely responded saying that everything is in the bag!!! Sour and angry! Maybe she did not really want the business and maybe, it is time to shut this place down for lousy service and a stinky attitude. She could have closed early if she did not want to take another order for the day. But she took our order anyway.
There are way better restaurants in the neighborhood. Who cares if they're cheaper?
Better off eating elsewhere as their service and attitude truly sucks.

We went here again today, and they were really snob and looking down on us. Looking at what we were wearing. I had on a nice polo and jeans because we were walking all day in the city. There is nothing wrong with what we are wearing. The waiter said it is 300 dollars minimum today in a very snobbish tone. We turned around and walked out. The food is not that good to be treated this way. Had better and paid less. Very rude people!

3 months ago, we had very good yum cha, and the service was nice. I'm not sure what happened, but we will not be back!

Review on 25/7/2023

I looked forward to try the Char Siew Bao (roast pork bun) and Dai Bao (big bun) for old time sake. However, it was a great disappointment feeling being ripped off. There was very little filling in each bun, and dough was not fluffFrom my photos attached, you can see that the amount of dough of the big bun is about 2 thirds of the bun. Furthermore, the taste of the filling was very blend, and didnot contain other essential ingredients.

Unfortunately,I can give a negative score for I had.

Unfortunate shadow of what they once were
Dumplings are my comfort food and I loved coming to this place years ago. Unfortunately, standard has slipped a bit

While the food remains delicious, you can definitely tell it's rushed now and that speed is more of a priority. This is also reflected in their service and atmosphere - quick turnover and quick wipe

The food will always be good, but there's a lot more that makes a good dining experience and this place falls short (sadly)
I'd recommend it for takeaway (even then, maybe some other options may be better)

It has been a while since we have been here and we decided to try it. The standard has still been maintained. We had the banquet:
First dish: Prawn noodles.
Mains: Salt and pepper chicken, fried vegetables with beef, seafood toufu.

The prawn noodles were similar to the normal crab noodles. Ingenious to use prawns and very tasty (and cheaper). The pawns were fresh and tasty.

Salt and pepper chicken was a bit salty but still nice. And the beef and veges were great.

I would recommend this place. And plan to come back.

My kids & hubby were a little hesitant to eat at a Chinese restaurant (not their usual cuisine). But all of them remarked how DELICIOUS the food was (and we will be back). The service was great, and the prices really reasonable. Highly recommend this restaurant.
My favourite restaurant! Simply the most delicious food I've ever tasted. Hands down THE BEST Chinese. Very friendly staff who go out of their way to accommodate you. Of the few dishes here I've tasted, the Chicken and Cashew is fantastic. Everyone I've taken to this restaurant loved it. Thoroughly recommend it.... 17 stars out of 5!

Ordered at 5pm for a 5:23 pickup. Arrived at 5:20 and food hadn’t even started cooking yet. Was told 15 mins but was ready at 5:50. No contrition from service staff which is a real shame as Dumplings Delish was a family staple. Unfortunately won’t be going back based on service.

Update:

Back again.

Ordered:
Chinese Broccoli- small serve of seasonal vegetable with oyster sauce - still good value (now $9)

Combination Meat and Veg on Crispy Noodles ($18) - tasty with enough gravy to soak and soften the noodles. Still generous with their toppings. Old school beef tenderised with bicarbonate. All beef, pork, chicken and squid pieces were tender.

Seafood Combination Rice Noodles ($22.50) with Egg Gravy ($3) - did not realise that this was an off menu item as we ordered it at the last visit but without the Egg Gravy. They were happy to accommodate and indicated that they’ll charge extra for the egg gravy. The amount of gravy was not enough for the amount of noodles and it was a a touch under-seasoned. The “wok char” notes were barely there today. Toppings were also generous here and the seafood was cooked well.

Service was again prompt and friendly. Tea is complimentary.

This is a very basic place that serves cheap but decent food. “Home cooked like” food that is pretty much slapped onto a plate. Whilst we were there, they were friendly enough to most customers and they were helpful with older customers who cannot manage to do somethings themselves but they did get irked at some customers who rubbed them the wrong way.

Last Visit:

Have not been here for decades - cheap, no frills Hong Kong restaurant that’s been an institution for many students over the years.

Nothing much has changed, maybe it has cleaned up a little. Same tables and chairs with different configuration. Possible different owners- more friendly, even cracked a smile..

Ordered as what described as Half Free Range Chicken. Looked very underwhelming when it arrived but it was juicy, succulent and the ginger shallots dipping sauce was very good. Chicken was small in size - maybe a Number 12 (1.2kg)-Number 15 (1.5kg). Generally not a fan of breast meat but this was not dry. $26 - a bit pricy for a small half chicken but it was good.

Got a small serve of seasonal veggies which was today - Chinese broccoli with a dribble of oyster sauce. Decent serve for $8.

Also ordered Seafood Combination with Fried Rice Noodles. Generous toppings. good sauce with a hint of “wok char” notes. $21

Good, friendly and prompt service.
My kids love the bbq buns and we often support this local business however after my experience tonight not sure I’ll be returning…

“Shortchanged” on the dumplings, ordered 10, was given 12 and ordered the Singapore noodles which is supposed to have prawns and chicken pieces as per the menu description. What I received was a container packed full of dry noodles with some curry powder cooked through, with a few vegetables on top, 2 prawns and not a single piece of chicken!

Just feel a bit duped and won’t return in a hurry, if at all! Many other local options to support instead!

I thought the dining and food experience was almost reaching average.

Why would any restaurant with 7 tables hold tables for reservations whilst customers waiting to dine and disadvantaged.
The only table service you review is when you’re served your food whilst you’re paying a higher price to pay prior to eating your selected menu items.

I felt that the food we received was average with flavour, common dish presentations and a clean restaurant.

I had a pleasant experience at this restaurant. The staff were friendly and accommodating, which added to the overall positive vibe. The food was decent, although it was westernised-Thai which is understandable given the difficulty in finding certain ingredients. The prices were reasonable and appropriate for the quality of food.

However, I felt that the restaurant ambiance was a bit overwhelming with a menu that was a bit too saturated and descriptions that were not very relevant to the dishes. The restaurant's name suggests a focus on Northern-style cooking, but the menu seemed quite basic and not very representative of this cuisine. Despite this, I still enjoyed my meal and the service.

One suggestion I have is for the man behind the counter to improve his personality a bit.😉

Overall, it was a decent experience, and I would recommend this restaurant to others looking for a casual dining experience.

Thank you for the best Thai food in Newcastle! You guys rock! It's the small touches that make your dishes stand out above all; such as scallops in your mixed seafood, the inclusion of pepper berries, fresh chillies and fresh Thai basil ❤️

Felt like the food was average. The duck dish was pricey considering it was salty / not saucy enough. Rice was gluggy (maybe a bad day). Service too slow (30 mins for dish to come out). No table water offered. Cigarette smoke coming from outside entire time (aren't there laws where you're meant to be 4m away from the food?). Wouldn't come back

Feeling nostalgic after not visiting for >20 years since I left work around here! Still the same decor, except the front windows are cleaner which allows viewing inside! Quality of food is so much like the ways it should be!! - honest pricing and value for money compared with fluffy offerings from quite a few restaurants ! We love the traditional ‘pao’ skins- the way it should be! The soup is Jam Pack with ‘Liu’, tiny restaurant place, old unassuming furnishings, but jam packed with happy patrons! I feel so lucky to be here again! Please keep up your good quality food at modest prices!

Great food. Friendly staff. Highly recommended. Full of flavours. Must try their chili oil. Portions are really generous. Very generous on the seasoning too. Absolutely loved this restaurant. It was our first time and we enjoyed all the food we ordered. The cost was very reasonable and the service was wonderful. They were very accommodating when I asked if we could sit outside as the weather was perfect (I had booked a table inside as I didn't know what the weather would be like on the day). Overall, we loved it and can't wait to return (although we do live an hour away). We'll just have to make the effort.

Affordable, zero-fuss tasty food is what I liked the most about this place. I ordered curry chicken on rice without bones, regular size ($13.70). There were 4 chicken pieces of respectable size and the curry itself was very satisfying. The only reason I'm deducting a star is because 2 of my pieces had bones in them, which was chalked up to the chef's mistake when addressed to the receptionist. Nonetheless, the place is simple-looking, clean with caring employees and decent food.
wanted to give this place a try because it’s close to home and i’ve always walked past it. the dumplings and spring rolls were okay but the chicken in the singapore noodles was off and left such a pungent smell that we couldn’t eat anything and threw everything out. spent over $65 here and left extremely disappointed. won’t be coming back unfortunately

edit: we called the place and went back for a refund. they threw out all the chicken
All I can really say is I HATE leaving bad reviews.
So I went here a second time in hopes that the first time was a bad once off
Not the case.
First time was fried rice. Can't explain the flavour other than bad. It would take a lot to make bad flavoured fried rice.

The second time was what prompts me to warn others.

I settled on sweet sour pork on rice.
Thinking of deep fried pork and a sweet sauce with maybe some pineapple and capsicum. The thought of crunching down on some of that was pretty exciting.

No, this wasn't the reality. It was like they deep fried it 3 weeks ago and it was just mushed up flavoured bread on top of pork.

So no sweet and sour sauce hanging around loosely to blend in with the rice. Nope, I was just munching on dry white rice and mudhed up bread.

C'mon guys. Everyone wants to support local business after COVID. Support us back by appearing to care about what you're serving.

Food was freaking nice! Price is really reasonable, every dish has its own unique taste. The squid dish was nice but felt they should add more squid, green curry was great and really enjoyed that, the pork was good in both price and portion. Water is free and refillable.

Delicious dishes, well cooked and fresh. Had satay chicken stir fry and the chicken was so tender, you will be impressed!! Ordered their Singapore noodles also and that was delish 😁😁

Classic Chinese food done well without any fuss. Reasonably priced too! We had entrées (satay chicken, spring rolls), aswell as a bunch of main dishes, including some sizzling chicken and beef plates which are always a bit of fun. The standouts were the salt and pepper squid, Singapore noodles, and of course banana fritters! There’s a nominal BYO corkage fee for wine as usual, and heaps of parking out the front.

Ease Garden Chinese Restaurant is an absolute gem, hidden away in the corner of food court behind KFC at Dandenong Plaza. The food come quickly after we order. Everything we have taste delicious, authentic and use fresh ingredients. Loved and finished everything with high satisfaction. Definitely will come back again.

The starters were fairly standard. The coconut prawns were a little dry, but the satay chicken was fairly good.

Had a chilli basil stir fry for the main which was pretty good.

Staff were very attentive and assisted with special request of a side of fried rice noodles.

I really wish I read the reviews before ordering from Jade Chopsticks. With such consistently bad reviews it’s surprising that they are still in business.
I’ve had a lot of honey chicken in my time, and even when it’s not so great it’s still good. But this would have to be the worst I’ve ever experienced. You expect deep fried chicken in a honey sauce (some stickier than others of course), but what I got was deep fried chicken coated in honey with a toffee like consistency to the point that my teeth were almost stuck together & I feared I would lose a filling trying to pull my teeth apart.
Every bite left me with a sticky sugary meat & batter stuck to every tooth in my mouth that I had to spend precious time scrapping it away with a toothpick after every piece.
Out of hunger I persevered until it was no longer bearable. I feel sick.
With so many bad reviews spanning many many years you would think the owners would reevaluate how they operate, how the food is prepared & presented to the customer.
I won’t be making the same mistake again.

Really tasty food. Service was efficient although dine-in space is quite limited. Definitely try the curry and we loved the Thai omellete.

This is my local Chinese.
For a quality meal and clean and family friendly environment I give it full credit.
It's not overly fancy but it is somewhere where I know it that the food is fresh , generously portioned. For a meal thats enjoyable and affordable with fast service I give it my thumbs up. It's run by reserved but respectfully friendly management and staff.

The best local Chinese you’ll find! I’m a big fan of Chinese food and eat it at least weekly from various places around Sydney. For a neighbourhood Chinese restaurant these guys are absolutely the best, you won’t be disappointed. Depending on who takes your order the service can be a bit blunt on the phone but it keeps things efficient and the food at the end of the day is always delicious, great value and consistent quality!

Never keen on leaving poor reviews but the person taking the orders at the counter is so unpleasant that taking the time to write this may count for something. Every time we come here the man seems to be bothered about serving us, no greetings or goodbyes or any of the basic costumer service. We always make the note of this but today I felt that the message needed to be delivered so the business doesn’t suffer from customers like us not wanting to come back.

Awesome Fried Rice!. And after ordering thru Menulog, rang them directly, to say I forgot the boiled rice, She chucked that in for Free,!
Lovely people, in these times, when most restaurants are evidently ripping people off.

I have been to Larnna Thai for million times, it’s absolutely my favourite Thai Restaurant in Newcastle. Food provided in generous portion, dedicated plating, lots of healthy and balanced dishes available on the menu, great service all the time. They have the best authentic Tom yum soup (usually places have very light texture or made straight from paste) and pad Thai is also highly recommend. They made everything from scratch, even like prawn crackers and the entrees, definitely worth trying!

One place for this food, the bin!

Lady on phone was lovely but oh my god. Where do I start? Chicken was rotten in both sweet and sour and schezuan chicken, Entree was frozen in the middle. Disgusting. Straight to the bin!

Not sure about the previous low posts, this place is one of the best Chinese food places I’ve had. And I love Chinese food and wouldn’t normally write a review, but this seems necessary.
It’s fresh. People saying it takes ages and doesn’t taste like Chinese food are unaware of what it takes.
They do take a while to prepare, however, they make I request. This means it is frau as they come and NOT pumped full of MSG which some are used to associating with Chinese food.
Trust me - give it a go and appreciate it takes a bit of time to make and don’t expect the MSG punch in the face.
Better off riding and picking up then menulog. They steal from small businesses.

Amazing food. This is an awsome Thai restaurant. Family friendly and great atmosphere. Thank you to the staff and chef. Awesone service. Definitely will be back again when we visit Newcastle.
Went into the shop about two months ago not expecting the delicious food and welcoming and friendly atmosphere.
Instantly as we walked in we were greeted by the owner which was lovely.
We ordered the pork and chicken dumplings and the mongolian beef with rice and vegetables.

The broccoli was slightly undercooked but aside from that everything was yummy.

Would recommend to have for lunch, as the prices and servings are good.
Came here on a Sunday and sat to eat outside with our dog.

We had the chicken dumplings 12 piece. Juicy pieces of chicken. Solid flavor combination and we could tell right away they were hand made.

My partner was surprised for a dumpling place that it only had four styles of dumplings. But the quality and flavour made up for lack of variety.

Also had the sweet and sour chicken (with rice). Chicken and batter was nice a crispy. We got a large amount of rice, enough that we shared between the both of us.

Plus two cans of soda and equaling around your $28 dollars.

Good value and a decent array of menu items not just dumplings. Person at the counter / owner(?) was very friendly. We'll be coming back.

Food has no flavour. Absolutely inedible. Chinese noodles is spaghetti?? Ordered with Uber eats and they sent the same order twice. Did they not realise at the ‘restaurant’ the exact same order to the exact same address is a mistake? When I called to tell the ‘lady’, she was the rudest person ever. 🤮🤮

If you value your health don’t eat here. I suspect they are simply staying in business with new customers as no one that’s eaten here has managed to have a normal bowel movement or not vomited and the quality of food is not for for human or animal consumption.

Please please please save yourself the sickness of eating here. It’s simply the worst example of food I’ve ever seen. When contacted they just don’t care how bad it is. Stop contributing to this evil and foul restaurant
Save ur time and money. I rang for an order, delivery. An hour later I called back wondering for my food. They claimed they had a black out. Fair enough. 45 min later I called back hungry as hell. Now I'm not asking to be comped for the inconvenience. Just hungry. Now the tirade I copped down the phone was uncalled for, hanging up on me only pissed me off. I went down there, my first thought after noticing their hygiene practice, or lack of, was to seek a doctor for a tetanus shot. If u want Bali belly, eat here. If u want good food, eat somewhere else...

Tasty food, and attentive and friendly staff.
We had the #2 banquet, and it was great! The entre soup was so flavoursome, and the mixed entres were tasty. For the mains, the curries were great...particularly the massaman beef
The meat was so tender it just fell apart! Dessert for that banquet was just sliced apple and grapes, but that's honestly all we needed after all the mains. We took a doggy bag home of the extras!

First time since moving to the area and unimpressed. Sweet and sour pork was well below average. Did not eat in but I dont intend to. Dining room was very dingy. Open for four hours per day - how do they survive?? I will give them another try as some of the reviews have been good.

2024: This place has been here since the dawn of time, and will probably still be here after that.
The menu's been relatively unchanged, very affordable, though the bao's have lost a bit of zing.

2009: The Quintessential Roast Pork Bun of Melbourne.

Very deceptive, gritty, low-key ambience housing the best BBQ Roast Pork buns in Melbourne.
I've tried these buns in many places around the world and these truly are the best.
The meat mixture is flavourous, with just the right amount of sauciness and wrapped in a soft fluffy bread bun.
The other menu items aren't too bad, but you need only come here for these buns.

If I could give zero stars I would. We just had to throw away nearly $40 worth of food because it was inedible. The fried rice was dry and crunchy... Like it was both undercooked and had been sitting under heat lamps for 5 hours. The mi goreng was the same. And inexplicably the noodles were cut into tiny pieces so you couldn't pick them up with chopsticks due to the combination of dryness and small size. The only edible dish was Mongolian lamb in which the container was only half filled was mostly onion anyway. I don't know how they're still in business.
