Ube Ice Cream here was the best ice cream that I have ever tasted. When I first tried it, it was sweet but not overly so, and it have a mellow lingering aftertaste that reminds me of marshmallow which leaves me very satisfied. Furthermore the scoops are huge. My family also likes this ice cream and was said to be their favorite, thus we would always buy for more.

Quick and easy ice cream shop. The ice cream is spread out on a frozen plate and scraped into rolls. I’d definitely go again.

well priced tasty items!! the medium ice boba was around $5 and the large milk tea was $6.50. it was so much tea my friend had to save the rest in our fridge tho! the penguin milk tea kind of tastes like london fog. i would recommending asking for 0% sweetness since the drinks are pretty sweet

The ice cream tastes good, but the one I received was very small. It appeared significantly smaller than others and what was shown in the review photos.

The flavors at Soft Swerve never disappoint!! Ive been coming here for years, and the rotating menu has always had great flavors (you can sample as well!)

5/5 HK Milk Tea - such strong tea flavor, more than most cafes!
5/5 Strawberry Lychee - super refreshing flavor, and it does taste like the fresh fruits!
5/5 Matcha - perfect amount of matcha flavor with a satisfying slight bitter bite at the end!
4.5/5 Ube

While Soft Swerve may be on the pricier side for ice cream, I do think it is worth a try because of how they craft their flavors. Would easily choose this spot over Chinatown Ice Cream Factory or Taiyaki. Also would like to add that in my opinion, this original Allen St location has stronger flavors than the newer Bayard St location.

I had the oddest experience. I entered the store and greeted the girl working there and she looked at me and didn’t greet me back. At the time we were the only ones there and I was standing in front of the cash, I was looking at the menu waiting to be acknowledged and then a guy walked in, they immediately acknowledged him asked him what he wanted and took his order. Then my boyfriend told the guy working there I wanted to order and he took his order (my order) and when asked cup or cone I answered looking at him that I wanted a cone, but my boyfriend had to repeat “cup” because they just wouldn’t acknowledge me. I kept asking my boyfriend if I did something wrong because at this point we were both confused as to why they were actively ignoring me. I got the ube soft serve and it was very creamy and good. I just wouldn’t come back since I apparently cannot get them to serve ME specifically lol.
This is a branch of the redoubtable Chinatown Ice Cream Factory, with all of the superb flavors that place offers: ube, zen butter (a beguiling mixture of peanut butter and toasted sesame seeds), green tea, and so many more. A special bonus of this location: no crowds, at least when I have visited. I went with a double-cookie play on my last visit: matcha and cookies beneath almond cookie. Rich, thick stuff. I’m a fan. Note well: cash or Venmo only.

Milk Bar in New York City is a delightful and iconic destination for those with a sweet tooth and a love for innovative desserts. Founded by Christina Tosi, this bakery has garnered a cult following thanks to its creative, nostalgic treats that bring a playful twist to classic flavors.

The moment you step into Milk Bar, you’re greeted by a vibrant and whimsical atmosphere that perfectly matches the creativity of the desserts on offer. The décor is fun and modern, with bright colors and playful design elements that make the space feel lively and inviting.

The menu at Milk Bar is a sweet lover's dream. The bakery is perhaps best known for its Compost Cookie®, a delightful concoction that combines sweet and salty flavors with a mix of chocolate chips, butterscotch, pretzels, potato chips, and coffee grounds. Another signature item is the Cereal Milk™ Soft Serve, which captures the nostalgic taste of the milk left at the bottom of a cereal bowl, complete with crunchy cornflake toppings.

One of the standout items at Milk Bar is the Crack Pie® (now called Milk Bar Pie), a buttery, gooey dessert that is both rich and addictive. The pie has a dense, custardy filling with a hint of saltiness that balances its sweetness perfectly.

The bakery also offers a variety of cakes, including the famous Birthday Cake, which features layers of vanilla rainbow cake, rich frosting, and crunchy crumbs, making every bite a celebration. Their cake truffles, essentially bite-sized versions of their cakes, are another must-try, offering concentrated bursts of flavor in each morsel.

Milk Bar’s cookies are equally impressive, with flavors like Cornflake-Chocolate Chip-Marshmallow and Corn Cookie standing out for their unique combinations and perfect textures.

Pricing at Milk Bar reflects the premium quality and creativity of the desserts, but the unique flavors and exceptional execution make it worth every penny.

I got the Taro Bubble tea here! It's a nice little shop. The bubble tea is not bad compared to big name brands like Tiger Sugar, which was just across the road. It's nice and simple and the lines are much shorter!
Beware the rude and arrogant attitude of the shop. The staff who appears to be the daughter of the owner is plain rude because she doesn't care since they have so many customers.

Super friendly staff let us try a few flavors before making decisions. We got ube, jasmine milk tea and durian. The portion size was huge. I like them all, but ube > jasmine > durian, which was what I expected in reverse. I look forward to trying more flavors and their floats.
Ube boba float is delicious!! I can't wait to go back and try the other flavors.

Let’s say you want a sweet treat relatively late at night and find yourself in the East Village and find yourself reading a certain Eater article about the best dessert places near you. Please do not make the mistake I did and go to literally anywhere other than Milk(ing your hard earned money) Bar. If you want to pay 18 dollars for suspiciously salty soft serve in a cup with potentially two (2!!!!) false bottoms and a prepackaged cookie or slice of milk bar pie (pie crust), go right ahead! But if you prefer any semblance of reason or simply do not want to experience such disappointment at the end of your day, please either wait for the next day to come and satisfy your craving with any number of delicious nearby options or pop into a bodega and get yourself a well deserved ice cream sandwich, a dessert with more originality, flavor, and substance than anything sold at Milk Bar.
Chinatown Ice Cream Factory is a cute little spot with friendly staff, but let's be real, the hype around their ice cream is a bit overrated. It's good, don't get me wrong, but I've had better scoops at Cold Stone. The shop's tiny size adds to its charm, but when it comes down to it, I'd probably opt for Cold Stones next time.

I went for dinner with some folks who are evidently not dessert people so that's it for time spent with them anyway I was in need of a sweet treat and this place hit the SPOT. The space is beautiful, the people at the counter were very nice about my pacing creepily around trying to decide on what flavor to get. I settled on mint chip and buttered pecan, both were excellent, perfection, fairly priced. The pecan had a great salt to it that balanced it beautifully and it came in a sweet vanilla waffle cone with this helpful drip prevention thing. I'll be back for their coconut ice cream which looked gorgeous, as did their taro, and I've heard the green tea is amazing.

Let’s address something, if you don’t like your job you shouldn’t be working there. Yesterday me and my friend went to get frozen yogurt at this place. My friend was asking for a specific type of frozen yogurt but they kept messing up her order. She was nothing but polite when she asked the lady that worked there to change it, only to be looked at with a rude stare and given dirty looks. All that time, the worker there was rude and very unwelcoming. She was practically shoving the toppings on top of the yogurt and didn’t even answer any of the questions my friend asked. Horrible customer service, I see this isn’t the only bad comment about this issue. Again, if you don’t like what you’re doing find another job.

HORRIBLE. The yogurt wasn’t that bad, however, the costumer service is terrible. The girl how makes the yogurt clearly doesn’t like her job, she keep giving me dirty looks and didn’t even answer to questions, always looking annoyed. If I could give 0 stars, I would. She needs to figure it out and find a new job!

3 scoops for $10, which is a fair price. Though the staff didn't give good attitude. It was a clean space with some window seats. There were lots of Asian inspired flavors! Will come again to try the other ones.
This is some of the best ice cream I've had. It has a nice gooey texture.

You get a decent amount per scoop. The price is pretty high for one scoop, but I would come here again.

I got the egg tart flavor and I highly recommend it.
Haven’t been here in years but decided to stop by for some delicious ice cream. I for the flavors matcha and cookie & taro and my bf got mango and lychee. Highly recommend the matcha and cookie! This spot is cash or Venmo only so be mindful of that if you’re planning to visit for some ice cream!
TLDR: small space of a local chain with Asian flavors but some misses

We had a few flavors that was good especially the Hong Kong milk tea, but the Vietnamese coffee is a bit too strong and bitter, and the ube was flavorless. Also the prices are a bit high for some soft serve and ice cream
One of the best ice cream places in New York City (and the world), offering flavors that you will find few other spots. Pictured are two classics—almong cookie and don tot (Chinese egg custard). Other popular delights include lychee, black sesame, mango, pandan, Thai iced tea, and many more. There are more "traditional" flavors like coffee, vanilla, and mint chip, too, and sometimes some special offerings. The staff is super nice. An essential destination.
Great
The Pandan ice cream was amazing, exactly what I was looking for. They had a ton of flavors available, I didn’t have to wait at all and super friendly. Will definitely go again.
I’m absolutely obsessed with their black sesame soft serve ice cream—I find myself craving it constantly. They offer other unique flavors like matcha, green tea, ube, and more and you can get them with toppings (I prefer it without anything). Today, I discovered that they also sell pints to go for around $11. It’s definitely one of my favorite ice cream shop chains in NYC.

The ice cream was not even an ice cream. It felt like I was eating salt only. It tasted terrible. We had DIY, cookie cream sundae, and cookie cream swirl. The cookie cream swirl was plain vanilla ice cream with no cookies. They also tasted terrible. We had to throw all of them in a bin. I highly suggest not wasting your precious money on this “ice cream.”

Never been to insomnia cookies came in with my husband 1/24 at about 2 pm and was met with the worst customer service with an unnecessary attitude. She was on the phone with someone on her AirPods and when we asked a question she said “that was mad rude” implying we interrupted her personal phone call. Excuse me, you’re at WORK. We were left speechless and promptly left. I don’t know what the issue was, if it has to do with us being LGBTQ or what. Incredibly terrible experience, won’t ever go back to insomnia cookies. This employee should be fired.
I love it here. The Taro boba drink is my favorite. The croffles were delicious as usual. I literally head to Smoove like 4 nights a week. Worth the trip across the bridge for them.
If you pass by New York City Chinatown you have to visit this ice cream place! They have so many ice cream flavors the I am sure you will need to return to try some more! I really loved this place and the flavors were amazing! The staff is very friendly and you can get as well a bite to try before ordering.

bill and i lowkey dont have any other dessert option but pinkberry bc it was the only place open 🫣 it was cutesy vibes the pomegranate flavor tastes like strawberry but i like the toppings. bill and i talked about how we’re objects of envy we’re such contrapoints children me love
We tried the famous ice cream in Chinatown—a tiny store located on one of the busy streets. They offer a unique variety of flavours, and customers can taste the ice cream before making a purchase. Everything was delightful. I particularly love coconut, so both of us chose that flavour.

We ordered one scoop, and I was impressed by the size of it. Even though I initially thought it was a mistake, I asked the staff, and she confirmed that it was indeed one scoop.
Comparing it to Chinese sweet levels, I found it to be a little sweeter. Overall, both the service and the ice cream were good.
One of my favorite places I love ice cream, and sometimes it is more common in the city to find Gelatto or sorbet, but if you like classic ice cream this is the place, they also have non dairy options.
While there are a lot of exotic flavors, the quality of the base ice cream just isn't there. It's a big gummy.

In terms of the flavors, the coconut was nothing special, and the chocolate was also pretty mid. The lychee, however, was nice enough, as was the red bean. The black sesame, however, was gritty. The flavor was on the mark, but ice cream should not be gritty...

Pretty big portions for your ten and a half bucks, though.

I’d suggest their hand scooped over their soft serve simply because of the flavor uniqueness. I’ve never had Hong Kong Milk Tea ice cream, let alone milk tea ice cream. It surprisingly tasted exactly like the real thing. The scoops are also pretty big. My favorite ice cream place recently shut down, but I think this might become my new favorite. There are a few small tables inside to sit and eat.

Amazing ice cream flavor. The Taro flavor here hit just like home. I used to eat a brand of taro Mochi ice cream(Kowloon dairy) in Hong Kong and the flavor of taro flavor ice cream taste exactly like it. They also have a lot of nice flavor like Thai tea and sesame which is really good.

Ice cream is more on the sticky side. Once that you can chew without freezing your mouth. I would drive 30 min just to go into the city for this. Closes at 10pm
Extremely rude worker running the counter. They close at 6 and I was at the counter at 5:57. Can I have a flavor that was on the board. She turned and checked the time on her phone and then she said "no" rudely. Not "sorry we're out" or something similar. She said we only have what's written on the tubs of ice cream. I said ok and looked down to see what they had. As soon as I looked down she said "you have 2 minutes" in a rude tone. I said forget it since I'm obviously bothering you. There are too many ice cream shops around that want people's business then to ever give this place my money.

When you're craving a deliciously dirty snack as your tummy grumbles at midnight, Insomnia Cookies is perfect for scratching that itch.

Dropped in recently for my first time. I picked a choc chip and a white choc macadamia cookie to top and bottom my cookie dough ice cream cookiewich.

My heart might've slowed down a bit but I 100% enjoyed the entire messy eating experience.

Worth a visit.
Great tasting soft serve with some interesting flavors. I got the strawberry shortcake soft serve in a cup and it was very delicious. I wish the portions were a bit bigger for the price but it was satisfying. There’s a couple of tables for dining in and service was friendly.

Love the original flavor. It’s perfectly tart and hits the spot. I usually get a medium with a bunch of different fresh fruit toppings and then add on the chocolate crunch for about $1 or so extra. The fruit is usually pretty fresh looking, every now and then one of the options might not look great though. Service could be a bit better but generally ok.

Fantastic ice cream. I had pistachio & almond single scoop. It was huge, slightly chewy, subtly flavoured, and delicious. Lots of Asian, interesting and traditional flavours. My favourite NYC ice cream by far.
A really cute ice cream shop in Chinatown. I thought the decor was so nostalgic of the shops around Chinatown, it was delightful. I got the black sesame ice cream in a cup and it was delicious and a generous serving size!

Best service! They put together their favorite cookie sandwich for me 🥰
A cute ice cream shop with a good selection of sweet beverages and snacks. Small but cozy seating area. They drinks look aesthetic and perfect to drink for the summer, they do sell ice cream and croffles as well.

Matcha Boba Float was pretty good, more-so due to the matcha ice cream. The whipped cream made it a little heavy though, will opt to remove it next time.

Ube Boba Float, I only had a sip of my friend’s drink, but I thought it was okay. The ube flavor wasn’t that prominent.

I had begun to give up my search for the best ice cream in NYC when I happened to see Sundaes and Cones on my way back from a nearby restaurant. The interior is designed like a modern take on the traditional ice cream parlor setup. There are a few seats to sit down both inside the shop.

The top two things I look for in ice cream are 1) flavor infused (not vanilla + mix-in) and 2) creaminess. Sundaes and Cones delivered on both of these criteria! I got a single scoop of taro ($6.30), and I was also pleasantly surprised this was taro (not ube)! If you like firmer ice cream, you probably won't appreciate the consistency as much as I did.

My one reservation with this shop is the price point. I went back and forth on whether or not to dock a star because $6 for a single scoop without toppings is very pricey. That being said, when I go back, I need to see if they accept cash, because I'm pretty sure there was a credit card fee (price on menu is about $5.50 for single scoop). I will definitely be back to try the other flavors, and I will update the review accordingly. If you have the same ice cream criteria as me, then definitely add Sundaes and Cones to your list!

Take and go place! This place has been here for a long time and so happy that it still stands! The momofuku slice of pie is what really keeps bringing me back, although I didn't see it on the menu. They have truffles, cookies and the best birthday cake ever, which they can personalize on the spot. Everything is prepackaged so the line moves quickly, most people got the cereal ice cream.

Love this new place in Chinatown has some Asian flavors like Thai tea and black sesame. You can simple get scoops or the drink, but I got both. I got the Thai tea float with Thai tea icecream, I swap out the boba to the yogurt pop it was so good, a little bubbles you can pop in your mouth with yogurt inside. The tea and icecream isn’t too sweet which is great. Will come back.

My friend ordered the "gold chocolate" ice cream, and they didn't really give the same toppings as it said it would have on the menu? I don't know why they did that. The chocolate taste was also very artificial as well, which was sort of a bummer. I will probably try them again another time and see if the review changes then.
The place is nice and it is a good place to go after dinner for a dessert. It is small, it only has chairs for 6 people. The ice cream was good, as for the design, I think Nutella as a topping should be served in a better way, they only put a spoonful of Nutella on one side, aesthetically it didn’t look good. Other than that, it’s a good place

Delightfully delicious dessert!
I'm so happy I found this place! Tried their strawberry cream cheese croffle, and it's one of the best I've ever had. For the first time in a while, the food tastes as good as it looks.
Just happened to be walking down Grand street craving dessert when I noticed this little gem. There's a stand where you can make your order, or go straight to the counter. Although they only have a few seats, it's well maintained and clean. By the amount of people that come in and out, this place definitely attracts a big crowd during certain times. Service was rather quick the time I went, and I was pleasantly surprised when they brought my order to me instead of having go to the counter myself.
Only tried one item on the menu, but you can bet I'm coming back to try the rest!
The Essex Market is fun! Lots of little kiosks with items and flavors from all over the world!
Days are starting to get chillier so I needed to try these two flavors before the weather really starts getting cold.
Taro and matcha flavor- I truly just wanted to eat really colorful ice cream…
The person working was very nice and patient with my questions because they have flavors I’ve never heard of before like pandan and durian.
It was a nice experience and the price is exactly the same as other specialty ice cream shops in NYC.
I liked walking and eating a fun product as a farewell to an awesome summer. It was a nice moment ❤️

Over 30 flavors of ice cream including 3 vegan ones as well as, beverages (both hot and cold) and cakes. They also allow sampling and don't take tip in the receipt. Decent portions and decent prices and reasonably good ice cream. They also have hot and cold beverages.

I had the rocky road cherry vanilla and maple walnut. The cherry vanilla and maple walnut were good and had a nice flavor. They also had a good texture and the right amount of sweetness.

The peanuts in the rocky road were a bit soft, which made it a bit less enjoyable.
Super good. Has fun flavors like pandan (which is the green one I got as shown in my pic), matcha & cookies, red bean, egg tart aka dan tat, etc. The logo of the dragon and the fun Asian flavors reminds me a lot of Chinatown Ice Crean Factory, so I wonder if they’re by the same management. But would definitely recommend!!!

Went here around 7pm on a Monday and there was no line. This place is super small - think they allow one person in at a time. I ordered a compost cookie and a slice of the milk bar pie. The pie was awesome. It was really sweet but I have a sweet tooth so no complaints from me. Nice and gooey piece of pie just like I like it. The compost cookie was pretty good as well. Not gonna be the best cookie you have but it was pretty good and worth the try. All in all good experience.

I if your craving something sweet this will surely give that sweet tooth what it needs. It’s so good. The store is small and they are practicing guidelines for Covid like one person upon entry at a time. You can scan the QR code for the menu. The cakes are moist and sweet and the shakes are scrumptious. The cookie I chose was perfection. I’ll surely go back!!
I went here today and the ice cream was delicious. I ordered Ube, which is a favorite of mine. Lots of unique flavors. As delicious as it was I am torn as to whether or not it’s worth $6.50 for one scoop. It’s quite pricey if you bring your children. Service was nothing special at all. I’ll go there again because the environment at the Essex market is exceptional and I enjoy being there.

I got the monkey jungle (or something along the lines of that) and I want to say it was pretty bad. The banana they put in the ice cream was not ripe creating a bitter taste, and the person making the ice cream did not seem to know how to make the rolls as they came out very large and irregular. They charge the same price as 10below (without unlimited toppings but their toppings portions seem more considerable than 10below) but they don’t have as good rolls. I would have given this place 2 stars, however, the cashier was very friendly and smiled, which is really nice to see once in a while. I hope to see this place improve.
